To [23] JeanInMontana - I know how UAC works, but this problem is with GAOTD activation soft only. It probably writes licence to HKCU, but the current user is (because of UAC) ALWAYS root (admin). The only way to install soft by GAOTD Activation is ad-hoc elevate user rights (but this is security problem) for each user and install/activate for each user.
There is lot of software, which can be installed under restricted user with UAC without problems.

Well it's a good image editor for windows users and works pretty well on my PC, now i have two computers, windows and mac, but i prefer mac as a image editor and i also tried a good image maker for mac, which can help you make various photo collages on your mac os x from www.mac-videoconverter.com which is an excellent program as well as Total Image Slicer. Thx GOTD for sharing!

Slices fine. Very poor merge ie, full color night shot ends up looking like a greyscale with a purple wash. Might be useful as a curiosity but not for anything serious. Needn't waste my hd space/resources on it.

@19
Rich you obviously did something wrong as Snap 4 worked just fine for apparently everyone else myself included. You must not have input the correct activation code while the giveaway was in effect, since if you had it would have told you at the time that the program was activated as a registered version.

Had a problem with registration. The fix was to rerun activate.exe after *closing* Total Image Slicer. The next time I started the program, it was registered already.

First off, I downloaded and tested this software watching out for all the problems noted in the above comments. It was installed under Windows 7 x64. I went one step further and installed it while also creating it as a VMWare ThinApp (sort of portable).

- I had NO problem with the installation
- Registration/Activation went perfectly smoothly
- Registration/Activation was even preserved in the portable app
- After creating a work folder and working image copy I ran ImageSlicer
in the following modes and with the results noted:

- Format conversion: I was very impressed at the sheer number
and usefulness of the formats supported... not only for images
but also for text and so on. Conversions were done very quickly
with no detectable loss of quality even at very high
magnification. It would be best to convert to a lossless format.

- Split image: You are given the choice of splitting vertically
or horizontally in any number of pieces. Now that I think about
it I should have tested doing both together, however I believe
that would work fine. As long as you carefully read the options
carefully, you will find that the split image is done very fast
and once again no loss of quality or content could be detected.

- Merge image: Taking the split image, I changed the format of
the image at the same time as merging them. Once again the
operation was fast and flawless. Next I opened both the original
file and the remerged file in Photoshop and compared the two at
insanely high magnification. Without checking the filenames, I
was unable to see any difference (original was JPEG and
conversions were lossless formats). Especially I would like to
point out that the "stitching" (where the images were joined)
was absolutely imperceptible.

In short, Total Image Slicer worked extremely well indeed. I personally found the problems and errors reported by others to be red herrings (unfounded). Naturally though, others posting above are certainly not lying. Thus I am wondering what is so different with my machine ... and all I can think of right now is the amount of RAM available (I have 6-GB) and if the processing is done in memory then you would have real problems on an old machine with limited RAM.

CONCLUSION: I have no difficulty in recommending Total Image Slicer unreservedly. Even if the end user has little use for splitting and merging, the speed, quality and number of formats supported in conversions make this a worthy tool in anyone's toolbox.

Definitely a keeper !

Many thanks to GAOTD and Coolutils.com for the opportunity to test this out.

I was pleased to find that Total Image Slicer installed and ran well through wine on my Linux machines.
I made the mistake of choosing Pixels rather than Number of Parts. This resulted in more than 500 images being generated before I could kill it. A warning before doing that, or perhaps a "Cancel" button, would improve the program.
$34.95 seems a little steep to me. If I were doing a new image map every day, I might be willing to pay it.

Just a quick note to those of you who have difficulty registering software using the activate.exe file:

It's been my experience that you must COMPLETELY close the software that you wish to register before running activate.exe. (Some software may minimize to the System Tray when you "close" them, and are still running in the background. If so, right-click on the System Tray icon for the software, and choose "exit" if it's available. Otherwise, you may have to use the Task Manager to terminate the process.)

Running the activate.exe program should then be able to correctly register the program (assuming you're running it using an account that has Administrator privileges), and when you launch the software in question it should reflect the change in status to "registered."

Perhaps GAOTD could modify the readme.txt file to reflect this information, which might reduce the number of negative comments about inability to properly "activate" offerings without a lot of hoop-jumping and head-scratching.

As far as today's software is concerned, I'm hoping that it will give me the ability to easily slice up an image so that I can use it as a "skin" for custom video players for my web pages. In order to do that, some of the "slices" must have a different size than others sliced from the same "master" image. If this software is able to do this quickly and easily, it should FLY off the virtual shelves as marketers scramble to create custom video player skins for their sales sites - even with the $34.50 price tag attached to it.

Hi, About "Setup.exe" and Activating.. - Although I'm not on Vista - I always run Setup.exe FIRST, and Activate NEXT, never yet had problem of Software not recognizing that it is Giveaway.

Also - good practice (as mentioned by Others too) - Best not to "Run", or "Open Application" BEFORE Activating! - unless it's necessary to obtain the Reg Key, so then strict procedure must be observed.

Sometimes thou the Software "wants" (empty field..) to still insert Reg Key AFTER Activation and initial Registering, in which case (other than strange reasons of showing "reminders" and counting time?, OR needing Different Reg Key when "Upgrade" is bought) - LEAVE it alone!:) and continue using it "as is".

Installed fine on Windows 7. I thought it didn't register at first because it has the registration code selection in the help drop down menu, so I re-installed as administrator. Found that was unnecessary. It is registered because it says "personal license" in the about part of that drop down. No watermarks. No asking me to register this copy.

In my ignorance I tried to slice a photo and ended up with literally over 120,000 images! Oops. After deleting all those, tried it again and it sliced my photo into 2 pieces; then I merged them back together. That did not come out the same as the original photo.

I wouldn't consider this very user friendly unless, perhaps, you're already well versed in dealing with this type of photo editing.

The only time it crashed was when I was deleting those 120,000 photos.

None of us are required to accept this or any other program offered on GOTD. I would expect to have questions answered about any software I download. There are users much more experienced than others. I was under the impression that this website is for the use of all computer users, not only "experts". The sarcasm of #'s 4 & 2 isn't necessary or helpful.

Why we have to get a dose of passive aggression everyday on this site is beyond me. If the manufacturers of these programs want to sell them, consideration for the user is paramount.I have gone on to buy other products from companies whose software I downloaded from here. I imagine that is the purpose, is it not?

Activate.exe presets the registration data
Setup.exe is the slicer setup program

W7 x64
v1.5.0.35

install looks clean, 5 MB into the directory of your choice

licensed to "giveawayoftheday"

no Help, except for command line options
& while the program is basically simply, it /could/ use Help

virtually every operation i tried resulted in either a hang or crash or BOTH
some operations completed regardless, but mostly not

slicer, slices (at least i got it to do it once)
wonder why it can't do it losslessly though? you would think it should be able to?

i got merge to work, once, so far

:frown:

Details:
sorting is SLOW
scrolling, dragging the scroll-block is non-standard, quirky

Thumbnails:
scrolling, dragging the scroll-block is standard, works normally
BUT, otherwise there is no ability to sort AT ALL

virtually every operation i tried resulted in either a hang or crash or BOTH
virtually every operation i tried resulted in either a hang or crash or BOTH
virtually every operation i tried resulted in either a hang or crash or BOTH

enough said

---

i really would have liked to see what the merge would do, in particular via command-line, as that is something i could actually use, but given the heartaches so far, & having gotten nowhere with this program. shame.

Agree with Giovanni!

Besides GIMP, Irfanview, Paint.net and tons of other freeware available for a basic function like this. Besides, all those freewares we have our dear old Paint in Windows... Whats the point of having a software like this, that too paid?

The price is a crucial factor for a user to buy a software. As the human trend goes, with freewares available, no one buys. So, to make the softeare "buyable" add features which the free alternatives do not currently have.

No more links today... Our king has already supplied enough for one day...LOL :D

Cheers and have a great day!

I have used the activate function and I have run it as an administrator. It simply doesn't seem to work for some people.

To Paul_CZ – Same problem with many programs from GAOTD (Vista x64 and 7 x64). When I ran Setup and Activate under restricted user, UAC dialog appeared and the instalation is finished under admin account. And ONLY admin user has registered version. Same if installed when I am logged as admin. Restricted user has unregistered version and ALWAYS must run as admin. Activation prog. activates software ONLY for user, who ran Activation.

Hey Paul GAOTD has nothing to do with the UAC in your computer, that is a Windows security feature to prevent unauthorized accounts from installing software. Any software not just GOATD. It was meant to prevent the installation of malicious software, i.e. virus, trojans etc because it is recommended people do not surf the net with an Admin. account or kids.

Unless you deactivate the UAC ( not recommended ) this is always going to happen if you attempt to install software while you are not using an admin account. GOATD has nothing to do with this.

It never ceases to amaze me how many folks will not read the short-&-sweet README file included before posting their questions. Gotta wonder if these same folks should be allowed to use a computer...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having many tools in your toolbox if they are excellent tools. I have lots of specialized little tools that do one or two things but do them exceptionally well. Not sure if this one qualifies as that for me.

- Activation.exe freezed my Desktop (Activation.exe didn't closed, but didn't appear in taskmanager as well). But registration successed.
- No unique features compared to Freeware. I. e.:
1. let user decide startpositon for cropping (top right instead top left for asian comics)
2. let user define overlapping areas (800x480 including 30px left, button overlapping area or 800x480 including 20px left AND/OR right AND/OR button AND/OR top overlapping area)

This will not open Kindle or whatever Zinio uses for magazines. Still have to buy different readers to use different services and there are NO readers for Zinio magazines. What a let down. Have no use for this now, maybe it can be used in the future for something I can't think of now.

Downloaded and installed quickly enough but something fouled up in the activation. Oh, by the way, I read the "handy file in the download package called read me" (as I ALWAYS do)and whaddaya know! Still failed to activate. After double-clicking on the desktop icon I opened the program and its interface included a pop-up advising me that I only had an evaluation copy and that in order to complete the purchase I must enter the Reistration Key. There was and is no Registration Key available to enter. Also,(perhaps because of the afore-mentioned) I was unable to get either of my files (eg. JPG) on to the interface, or even to appear, in order to try the split or merge options. So, I've uninstalled it. Perhaps I'll get the time and patience to attempt the download/install again before the giveaway period expires.

I scan a lot of books 2 pages in one shot. This is fantastic tool to split that pages as automated routine. I do not know other soft so fast and easy.
Back procedure - merge could be interesting to make contact sheets or mosaic pictures for web pages for faster appearance. I did not tested merge because only split is interesting to me.
Thanks Cooltools and GAOTD.
