Changes your browser toolbar, and when you uninstall the program, the toolbar remains changed. There's a word for a program that changes things without your consent and makes it difficult to reset: "MALWARE."

@49 There is nothing anyone can do except purchase it or download the freeware version here: http://download.cnet.com/YouTube-Clip-Extractor/3000-2071_4-10804914.html?tag=mncol

Does the developer still plan to award one of the top 5 suggestions? Did I miss something?

I installed the Clip Extractor Pro software about 11:30 PM and it seems to be only the trial version and I see no indication of it being registered. Why is this? I thought I had until midnight to install and activate. Can someone help me with this problem? Please?

I have mixed emotions about downloading and installing Clip Extractor Pro.

I appreciate "Clip"'s comment in Post 25, and there are some good comments about the functionality of the software.

But, on the other hand, "Clip", how could you not be aware of the negative reaction that the intrusive, unasked-for, and #%#$#$ toolbar would cause? And, I don't want any software phoning home with ANY information it finds on my computer.

So I will not download and install Clip Extractor Pro.

Many, many, many thanks to today's posters, and to GAOTD.

1. Choose custom installation settings
2. De-select - Clip Extractor search my defatlt search provider & home page
3. De-select - Make Clip Extractor search my tab page
4. Complete installation process
5. Uninstall Clip Extractor Toolbar thru some good un-installation program like Revo-uninstaller to compeletly remove installed toolbar.

Have fun.....

My suggestion is to create a freeware version called Clip Extractor Lite with less features but would include the toolbar.

Clip Extractor Pro would not have the toolbar. If a product is good some people don't mind third party bundles if they can get the product for free. Those who don't want the toolbar can buy the product.

- That's my suggestion to the developers. I hope to see the pro version again here one day without the third party software.

Its a worst peace of software for this kind of jobs. I use orbitdownloader which is 100 times better than this but only thing is that you have to use a seperate convertor to convert files but thats fine with me.

Sites:
Orbit: Can download from many sites.
Clip Extractor Pro: Can Download from limited sites

Download Manager:
Orbit: Orbit is basically a download Manager
Clip Extractor Pro: Is for downloading and converting clips

Detection of Video:
Orbit: Orbit detects videos automatically and show a "GetIt" Button automatically. you can select quality from drop down menu
Clip Extractor Pro: It worked with some limited sites and did not work with some sites like yahoo video even though it claim support for it.

Convertor:
Orbit: Dont have any convertor feature. But there are lot of free convertors available in market. For example "Super"
Clip Extractor Pro: Offers conversion to many types.

There are many more things that we can compare. I will suggest that try orbit and see the differnece yourself

First & foremost I must agree that the Tool bar is a nonsense. Best way to lose custom, BUT, it is a separate file and anyone wanting this software SHOULD go ahead and download it and then using 'Remove programs' get rid of the toolbar. I have and then ran Malwarebytes and there is no malware left behind.

On to the program. the GUI is poor. Looks like 1990 shareware. this is for MUSIC and that should be reflected in it's appearance.

To download a file the program switches to a SEPARATE panel? Not good or necessary.

Whilst downloading, just one progress bar shows and it is still only 80% complete when file has downloaded. Then the remaining 20% is for the conversion process. Far better to have a separate progress bar (Or restart the same one) for conversions.

Quality of downloads is excellent. Saved and converted fine. Tried making a ringtone and that part was easy and fun. Result was good, too.

BUT, it has now switched to yet ANOTHER panel? This one now looks more like a portable Video recorder.

Make the clip and remake several different clips. Stop the clip, repeat the clip (several times in one file if required) play the full clip.

My BIGGEST gripe by far is that, while the clip maker is useful, you can only make a clip out of what you download and only immediately AFTER downloading it. Can't download and make a clip later. Needs to be done THEN - AND worse still, you can't locate a file on your computer to make a clip. VERY bad ommision and a feature that should be obvious.

This needs to be a separately startable function.

Sort these out Clip. It could be a nice offering but thanks for my lifetime licence anyhow and good luck with the progress of this and thanks to GAOTD for the opportunity to try it.

regards to all.

Terry

Toolbar is a thing of the past. It is resource intensive on the browser.
The only toolbar worth installing is the Google toolbar, or for some, the Yahoo toolbar. Other than that, try not to be too excited over toolbar. You always usually do not use it after installing but the toolbar will try to connect to the internet and maybe do all sorts of things without your permission, since you allowed it on your browser.

For video, use www.clipnabber.com
For audio, use www.tunenabber.com

Hope this helps.

I've used DVDVideoSoft's program for downloading YouTube videos and it works like a charm. http://dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm For further file conversion, I use the free program Format Factory, but DVDVideoSoft has a link on their YTD page for a free video converter, http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

BTW, DVDVideoSoft has a lot of good, free, reliable and trustworthy programs. And from personal experience, I can say that their customer service is exceptional.

Any retail program that installs a toolbar, especially one that's difficult to delete, gets no business from me no matter how "wonderful" or inexpensive. I will not pay anything for added trouble; I don't even download freebies with added trouble. This is a poor way to gain loyal customers for sure! Ditch the toolbar!

Hi,

The non-optional toolbar and changeing homepage are issues that DEFINITELY keep me off installing this program. These are, at a first glance, remediable nuisances, but they also usually leave behind some unwanted stuff or other on your machine. Stuff that is sometimes difficult to locate and get totally rid of - in which case some program functionality may also get lost in the cleaning process. Reconsidering implementing the toolbar would be best thing to do!

JJ #11's comment re. developer's privacy policy COULD make today's offer a NO GO for some as well. “The toolbar sends unidentifiable and non-personal data which may include the IP address, the URL of the web site you are visiting, general information about your browser and operating system, product information as taken from a product HTML page, the unique identifier of your toolbar, unidentifiable usage of toolbar components and search queries.” This is way too much for me…

Unless Clip Extractor LLC
1. makes the toolbar(s) fully optional (and makes sure that the possibility to opt out actually functions) or
2. gets rid of the toolbar all togeteher,
3. keeps from changing one's homepage (stop highjack!)
4. AND makes automatic gathering of "unidentifiable and non-personal data which may include (etc...)" via their toolbar OPTIONAL as well,
I will consider giving the program a try.
As things usually go, however, I don’t see any of these happening before today’s offer expires…

One final remark about the authomatic gathering of “nonindentifiable/unidentifiable” data by websites (and other media!). Perhaps we’re exagerating this issue here. But people do like the feeling of having their privacy protected and really are very critical towards “privacy policy statements” as cited above.

It should be common and good practice that you are given maximum control over what information you wish to make available for third party use, category per category, item per item even (if you so wish), and that your preferences be universally registered by default (and exclusively changeable per individual ‘trusted correspondent’), in stead of seeing some legally non-binding “clause” tucked away in some “end user agreement” or “statement of privacy protection”.

THE ABOVE WAS WRITTEN BEFORE COMMENT #25 by Clip:
25. This Clip Extractor PRO is a new build where we are testing the idea of tool bar. While toolbars can be intrusive this one is by no means is malware. You can chose not to make Clip Extractor your default, tab or home page during the installation process. The button “Get PRO Version” should not be there and will be removed! Due to so many people not liking the idea of toolbar we consider getting rid of it as well! I (and many others, I should expect) am very pleased with Clip Extractor LLC’s reaction so far!
Today’s giveaway expires in some 15,5 hours.
Seeing that a number of people have already gone through the process of installing, (quick) testing, commenting, eventually uninstalling etc. over the past 8 to 9 hours, and that most probably Clip’s positive reaction may result in a kind of “rush for the gem” (perhaps overloading Clip Extractor LLC’s server at some moment), ànd considering that the changes Clip is willing to apply to this build may take some time as well, it may be a nice idea to extend today’s offer by 12 hours.
THAT would show respect and concern for all parties involved…
But please, do get rid of the toolbar!

I’m looking forward to enjoying this product in time!
Many thanks in advance
Greetz and success to all.

Patrick

Shame on software developers that put adware, unwanted toolbars, etc. in their paid programs, whether there's an option to install or not. If I pay for a software, my PAID status should mean NOTHING but what the program is supposed to do. I'm going on other people's posts here, and when I see one after another that says it either tries to or actually installs crapware (even when opted out of) means I will not even attempt to install this otherwise enticing application. I count the applications offered on GOTD as paid versions, and if we get a version with crapware, while others who actually pay for the app don't, how are we supposed to test and recommend the product to others when there are going to be differences (whether in features or any bindles crapware) in the version we get vs. the version someone who actually paid would get. The reason software vendors contract with GORD, as I see it, is to give a free version of their paid software so we can use it, test it, and recommend it to others who will hopefully buy it.

I gave this a quick download seeing that I've got tons of .FLV movies I'd like converted over to another format.

However, once installed I got quite a few features I didn't like which caused me to uninstall the program.

I'm sorry, once a program installs a ton of bloatware and nags you to buy more software, it's no good in my opinion. No matter how well the software functions.

Thanks GOTD for the app though, as usual it's appreciated.

My idear on this is dont be stupid. Most all people dont like toolbars and if you eva use another persons computer besides your own you will notice the po fella has like 4 or so toolbars that he got intstalled (by accidently on purpose). They normally dont know how to remove or uninstall. People are not stupid they just dont have the time to learn to uninstall the crapware. I hope I win your lifetime thing for this idea. My special idea is to install a toolbar that is unobtrusive. I actually dont like the little search thing on Internet explorer either cuz I know I can just search from my address field. It is just annoying.
So if there is any such thing as an unobtrusive toolbar I vote Yay for that.
I did leave your software installed on my computer except for the toolbar.

For all the people who use the Firefox browser, you can get a add on called net video hunter. This add on downloads anything you try to get, including mp3's from any website you try to get it from. I have been using this add on for about 3 years, to date, no other video grabber has even come close to working better. In a three year period, I have had difficulty getting a video only once, but I did get it. It's a foolproof program, it's free, safe and fast. Unfortunately you still need to have a converter, Format Factory is free and works quite well. Or get the next converter from GOTD, they post them frequently enough.

You had me at installs toolbars and hijacks homepage. Wow, how long I've searched for a software program that would over ride the owners choice and do whatever it pleased. Sure malware rogueware trojans aside, this is just perfect for those people out there wanting to do a system restore or perhaps a (hold your breath) full reformat. Oh, how I long for the full reformat. Does a computer repair techs heart good to know there are people out there who will install this then bring their computer to me to fix it. $150 later and viola they are ready to try it again. Thank you.

Seriously, start off down a road that most would consider shady or possibly illegal behavior and wonder why some software gets a bad reputation. Stop the toolbar homepage hijacking that crap will scare off people. Solicit your software through legitimate means. Give the user the free choice to opt out and don't record websites information etc.. that just reeks of credit card identity theft scamware behavior.

Download and install? NO. Trust this company ever again? NO.

Yes, its intrusive. The program attempted to hijack my browser default search setting without asking. The program puts a toolbar on internet explorer and firefox without asking (but not firefox portable).

On the toolbar itself there is a button that hustles you to upgrade to the pro version (which supposedly clips more than just youtube. I'm not sure if my program didn't register properly or what. There didn't seem to be any way of telling. In fact I couldn't find an options area to adjust settings other than the converter format output settings.

The playback interface is beautiful and it might be useful to try out if you do alot of converting to different formats or playing back at different times. But it won't be a keeper for me. I would like to see a program that is less intrusive and with more user options. One that interfaces with all versions of firefox would be nice and with an option that interfaces without a toolbar (though you can paste urls directly into the program window).

The video was good quality and the ability to convert to a few different file types was a nice feature. The actual function of the software was good.
I always prefer using sites like KeepVid or Zamzar because they don't require any software to download, and for a good reason: they don't come with packaged toolbars. Sure enough, this program came with BigSeekPro toolbar, which collects 'anonymous usage statistics'. I quote from the privacy policy:
"The toolbar sends unidentifiable and non-personal data which may include the IP address, the URL of the web site you are visiting, general information about your browser and operating system, product information as taken from a product HTML page, the unique identifier of your toolbar, unidentifiable usage of toolbar components and search queries."
So, while it's all unidentifiable, I don't quite understand why they need to record my search queries, pages I visit, OS and browser details which can all be matched to my unique browser toolbar id, all in the name of better support.
Packaged toolbars are always a big warning sign for software to miss.

WARNING!!! In order to use this program, you are required to download the BigSeekPro Pack Toolbar. Check out their EULA (End User License Agreement)here: http://www.bigseekpro.com/eula/clipextractor

Now put 'BigSeekPro Pack' into your favorite search engine. You will see nothing but sites offering tools to remove BigSeekPro and descriptions like adware, malware, virus, pop-ups, rootkits, task manager disabled and more.

Free alternatives - There are a lot but one is Youtube Grabber 4.1 and as for converting a youtube vide to an MP3, you can do that with out downloading any program by using this site:

http://www.video2mp3.net/

If you have already downloaded Clip Extractor Pro, it looks like Malwarebytes will get rid of the nasties from that toolbar.

Well, I usually use 'VideoGet' but I thought I would give this one a try.

During installation, by default, it wants to change your search and homepage to 'Clip Extractor Search', so make sure you untick this (and the other 2 options I would suggest) during installation.

Annoyingly, it still installs a full toolbar into internet explorer, rather than the neat little button shown on the tutorial video on the website. Clip Extractor doesn't seem to intergrate with Firefox or Chrome browsers at all (on my system anyway) so you will need to cut & paste the web address of the video you want to extract into the program.

Didn't extract either of the two YouTube videos that I tried it on, so I have uninstalled. So overall, not very impressed......

Thumbs down. Choosing easy install instead of custom install chanegs IE search engine to their search engine. Installs a IE Toolbar whether you like it or not. Disabling toolbar warns that "related class" will be disabled. Installing RealPlayer Basic (Free) provides option for downloading YouTube videos.

Be warned that the installer will attempt to hijack your browser settings, at least by default.

It also apparently installs the BigSeekPro toolbar, which I can't find much information about, although Google comes up with numerous forum posts from people trying to get rid of it.

I'd be pretty wary of installing this.

Bad: You cannot change Mp3 bitrate. Be careful with installation. This program want to install it's own search bar and homepage to startpage etc.

Not sure why anyone would give this program thumbs down. It does everything it promises to do. Very easy install. Once it's up and running, all you need to do is find the Youtube URL of the video you want, plug it in and you are ready to convert. Very easy interface to use. Very fast conversion as well. I downloaded and converted a 5 minute music video in about 2 minutes. The video is now iPod ready.

The only thing this software is missing is the ability to choose widescreen such as 16x9 or 4x3 formats for my phone but I can't complain it's free.
