No prob w/dwnld or install. Seems fine. Replaced a 122mb hog I barely used with this sleek, 6mb application . . . hopefully it'll work as easy as others have described, should I find labeling a CD necessary.
Thanks GAOTD!

I downloaded the files, it went fine. Copy and pasted the user name and reg codes into the spaces and they took. I've opened the program at least 20 times so I don't think that will be a problem. A friend of mine bought a similar product for $20 and it wasn't this easy to use. I labeled 200 CD's last night, and I need to go buy more CD label paper today. The program was very easy to use; I uploaded full color pictures, cropped, added text, and it worked great. Thanks for the free software!

This is a basic label designer, and I didn't spend much time with it, but it seems quite buggy. Additionally, the price is a significant problem (except during the giveaway). Much more complete packages which directly support LightScribe, more standard labels, label printers, etc., and have large collections of images, templates, clip-art, user-submitted templates, etc., are available for the same price or less, such as SureThing.

#58, penny, it's true that the label side is actually more delicate since the reflective layer is closest to the surface on that side. There are numerous issues with stick-on labels, however. The adhesives can damage the reflective layer. They add mass and potential imbalance to the CD/DVD, they increase the thickness, and may be hazardous (catching/peeling) to a slot-loading drive. Printable CD's/DVD's are better (and much cheaper), but of course, you need a printer that supports them. I find LightScribe and similar technologies to be very expensive per disc, very slow, monochrome, and low-quality.

#61, BillDee, did you even use this or any other label designer? CD Label Designer and its competitors do support spines, etc.

For the registration: you need to copy and paste the whole registration code, and the last nukmber is a 9, which goes to the second line. Without this 9 you cannot register the programme.

Very good application. Works like a charm. Download and reg without a glitch. I tried it with right to left text in my bizaare language and it did ok. 5 stars this time to GAOTD and DataLand Software. Good work Serbia.

Excellent and the best of all label makers.

One drawback: The labels often get stuck inside the CD slot. Be sure to have a putty knife handy to extract the small bits of adhesive.

It's been quite a while since I have seen anything here that grabs me. I pretty much have all the stuff that I need. And then some. :) I basically downloaded this one since I have yet to find a CD labeler that is quick and easy to use but also allows detailed configurations if needed. I must have at least 5 or 6 labeler programs now. Maybe more since I have so many media players and many of them include extras like labeling.

Doing a quick run through of this program shows me that it is seemingly able to do most anything when it comes to making CD labels. I can't believe how many different options are available. One complaint I have with some labelers is that they are difficult to work with your music list of the individual songs. I HATE being stuck hassling with trying to edit things only to find that a simple change isn't so simple. Or that you end up affecting every part of the list when you only want to edit one thing. Or that the program automatically decides how the page should look and fights you all the way when you try to change things.

Today's GOTD is a real winner in my book. The GUI is attractive and I like the way the program started out by easily running through some of the configurations. This is clearly user friendly software. So far everything I have played around with has been easy to accomplish and, equally important, the end results look good. Regarding the price the company normally charges for this product, I think $19.95 is a better price point but that's their decision. Today it is free so neither I nor anyone else here has a right to complain. Thanks to both Dataland and GOTD.

Hello all,

Few words about MP3 lists. CD Label Designer reads MP3 tags from files and puts them on the labels. In Label | File/Song List window (choose from main menu) you can edit this list and change various parameters, such is font, placement, etc.

If you list is still too big to be placed on one side of the label, you can use Front/Inside pair or a Booklet format.

Please contact us (via e-mail, ticket system or forum) if you need further assistance with any of this.

when you download+open a zip archive and find 0 files inside, first "save" the zip archive and only later doubleclick on your default zip program icon,
this worked for me several times apart one case when the file was corrupt, anyway never happened with the GAOTD files !

I used this this morning (having first posted my glee at finding it); after minor experimentation I found it really easy to use and did exactly what I wanted it to. It shouts at me when I try to print, though - but it still prints, despite mooing error-messages. I don't actually mind about the error messages as long as it prints! Incidentally Rymans' labels are the same as the Neato ones, not the Avery ones, if that means anything to anybody - I had to experiment to find which one was wanted.

Thank you GAOTD. This looks like a nice program. Thank you to the publisher, Dataland Software, for your contribution. This program has a regristation number that you must copy and paste to properly activate the program. It amazes me the number of people that don't scroll down to get the full regristation number. When the progran doesn't register they blame GAOTD. Read the comments people. It is explained very clearly within the first 10 comments. As for the dll issue... I did not have any problem with this. If you did have a problem read comment 35. This person explained everything very well. Bottom line... please read the instructions and follow them before you trash the site because you could not follow instructions. that's my thoughts.

This is a nice piece of software. As far as I can see, Nero is not better. The trouble with all these label makers, though, is that they don't make real templates for the cover, which should not be just a single square size of paper, but (as it was -- and maybe still is -- in Roxio)a foldable two part template. The inside is for writing contents.
There is another problem with all label makers these days. Increasingly, we're making MP3 CDs for our cars and stereo systems, but there could never be enough room to write all the titles of an mp 3 disk. I've made some with Word, and they're okay, but the font has to be about 6 point and you've got to print on at least two sides. Can someone come up with a solution to this?
Thanks GAOTD for all your fine software.

#49 Many of us appreciate the information about free alternative programs! Someone told me that labels protect the aluminum coating from scratches. He said the aluminum layer is where the actual data is burned and that a scratch through that unprotected layer can ruin a disc. I had been turning my discs upside down on my desk, I thought to protect them from getting scratched on the bottom protective plastic layer. It seems you can still use a CD with a scratched bottom plastic layer. This was news to me. So the label can actually add a protective layer to your CDs ... not to mention the added asthetic value.

Honestly, people who get pissed off piss me off. Show some respect for others who spend some of their valuable time to inform us of freeware alternatives. If the GOTD program meets my needs for a particular functionality I buy it when reformat makes it necessary. I recommend it to family and friends. If it doesn't meet my needs, I am extremely grateful that someone has taken the time to direct me to tried and true alternatives.

Just to post an additional note about printing directly to CD: yes, this is possible. You will need to create a print layout that matches your printer (might require some experimenting with some models). If you need help with this, feel tree to contact us.

Seeing that this is a printing program and that the laser of Lightscribe, well, scribes, it is no shock to me to find out that this program does not support it.

The frequent references to labels in the program's blurb leads me to believe it is meant to be used on the stick-on CD labels available commercially; would it not also work, then, on ''inkjet printable'' CD's ? I see no reason why it would not: after all, the inkjet would simply print directly on the CD instead of on a piece of paper.

Any thoughts?

To those I read having download, installation problems, Get firefox server and use it to download these programs. Firefox is able to do 80% what AOL, IE, and the rest can not do when it comes to gaining access, downloading, ect., Almost everytime I went to download a program, it said access denied or the download glitched off of my own servers. I then put the address in Firefox and the problem solved itself.

As far as yesterday's program, my BF called frantic-he was working and his boss and he had to remove the norton virus program on the company computers. The programs they removed left registrations key they could not pin point and it froze 8 computers. I told him of the two programs I ran yesterday and they came online to get them. Problem solved. I think many of the posters here do not realize how much these programs can mean in not just recreational use but in some serious business practices. He works at a Movie Theator, and you can imagine on a weekend what it meant to have 8 public computers go down. To those giving real and honest inputs, what you say will help the developer to make it better. Firefox is an open source program, meaning it was created and improved by everyone's inputs. It has reached a point that it is now one of the very best servers hands down due to critical and valid inputs to those working on it over the years.
If you find faults with a program, do it in a way that the deveoplers can understand and improve on it. Otherwise you waste typing space.

A well intended loser I'm afraid.

Installed well enough but got a missing .DLL upon startup.

Found a copy of said .DLL file and stashed in my system folder as usual, however, during startup I am not given the chance to search for said file with a manual browse, it just aborts.

BTW We are supposed to read those readme.txt files? LOL

Thanks. Needed this software for a Christmas Project.

On Nero Suite, Nero is not freeware, so not everyone has it. But thanks for pointing that out.

This is great alternative.

Program registered easily. In the readme, it says: " ...register the software using the registration name and registration key provided.

NB: Scroll down the activation window to get FULL registration key"
The key word, which might be easily missed, is SCROLL. In the activation window, you need to scroll down one row to get all of the characters in the code. Once this is entered, you can check help:about to see if it registered correctly.

Hello all,

Thank you for trying CD Label Designer and for your comments! I will attempt to answer as much of your questions as possible. Please don't hesitate to ask more.

1. It seems that main problem is with activation. In order to activate software, you need to enter registration key provided in the process. Please make sure that, instead of your own name, you enter "Giveawayoftheday" (without quotes).

2. Lightscribe is, unfortunately, currently not supported.

3. Missing GDIPlus.dll: It can happen on some older systems. In this case, this DLL is freely available and you can download it from several places on the web (including Microsoft site). Here is one of links: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?gdiplus.

4. Access Violation while closing application: thank you for reporting this. Please contact us via e-mail or our ticket system and we will investigate this issue further.

Once again, thank you all for your comments!

The download process went well, and the program offers lots of options. I was able to design a simple label very quickly using the backgrounds included, the easy to use text designer and a picture from my own files. I have been using a program which came free with some labels which I purchsed, but have had problems getting the disc labels to center on the template. This program produced perfectly centered labels on the first try using the templates in the print function. There may be better programs out there, but as an occasional user, this one suits my needs very well.
