The software cannot display the cursor position in case of fused letters for Asian languages. Cannot detect spelling or grammatical errors either. Although it displays Asian languages, because of this issue, it is useless to me.

For years - I have used Atlantis 'Lite' & that is a really lovely package.
Now I will have a chance to use it's fully grown up - Big Brother.
A big thank-you to the Atlantis team & to GOTD for this.

A quick download, a quick set-up process and a tidily-saved GAOTD page for information later. It looks like a useful addition - thanks very much!

I bought a license about two years back, I liked it so much. Be forewarned that the license is for only one computer, or at least those were the terms back then.
I just couldn't see buying three licenses for my 3 PCs, given my sporadic use of the program.

Reply   |   Comment by Joe T  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Joe T,
From my own experience, Atlantis will install fine on a number of personal PCs using the same license key.
However, if you're planning to have several people using the program (perhaps in an SME environment) surely it's only fair to buy at least a couple of licences. After all, it' hardly going to break the bank - especially when compared to the cost of Word!

JayUU,
Thanks, I only did a cursory look this time for the license agreement, will check it out. I had Giveaways on my 3 computers, buying the license was more for dev support, but it would be nice to have bought copies. It's only for me, and I only have occasions to use the program about two or three times a year.

i like it, is not perfect but who/what is?
if you are moving from ms word directly here you may be better off with open office or something else, there are many office variants both small and big and free out there...this seems to be super small and super functional, a swiss knife of doc world, but not a word replacement 100%
sure it can do a lot of things similar and even better,
i am impressed it saves docx even better than ms word (quite smaller in size)
but it has many bad things in it too

setup...if you quit during setup it does not roll back like ms office setup does...but you can restart setup and will install again on top of the old incomplete setup...so is not really a big deal

the big deal is it can slow down your system on working with several tabbed docs, from what i can tell it does this to save a back up of the work in progress...but i found this unreasonable since the docs were all already saved by me and i was only looking on internet browser for stuff to add to them while keeping them open in background

so this is prolly good for those who only work with one doc at a time, if you work with more, the tabbed docs are helpful but only for systems that are not slowed down by this feature...luckily it does not do this often and you can resume work once it gets past the bottleneck...however i wish there was an option to stop this behaviour but i am yet to find it...i9 have stopped all the user choices in regards to possible backups but it still occurs :(

i can work in similar ways with many files in ms word 2007 but can't work with 2 in atlantis if unlucky...i do blame firefox and win 10 x64 for this too, but that failsafe save feature has to go or at least become optional

i have rated it positive, because from what i can see is a solid developer that updates often and improves as fast as it can...anyway if you need word to save to ebook you just need and addon for it and works too, and many other office alternatives save to ebook too, not to mention online and offline convertors...

also this is only msword alternative, the rest such excel and powerpoint still need other options

there are a lot of addons for ms office, while here i am not sure, and you will never be 100% sure your file looks as it should on all computers running all types of office when you submit files made with this...but atlantis is reasonably small, works on most systems, old and new, can be portable, has dedicated user base, will be improved...so you'll likely not have many issues using it...

the plus side is it gives a lot of extra features (you may or may not need) upfront, without the need to look around or install addons or addins or unreasonably big bloated setups and servicepacks :))))

so yeah , a keeper, but just in case test your important office outputs to a office running machine whenever possible

also be careful, when you copy and edit and paste and search in docs you may ruin fonts and past entries...if you are not careful enough you may save a baddie...the most annoying and surprising part is when atlantis breaks your word doc the undo function will not always work...but this can happen in office at times too :)

anyway, today this is free and can't hurt you (much) to try it :)))

huh, i had big problem in copy pasting from web to doc, this version did not always paste all elements i copied... sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not, good thing i checked the outcome...i do realize this is probably why is offered to hunt down the bugs but...copy paste should not be so difficult when even wordpad can do it...
extra note...from wordpad or from same document open in atlantis it could do it but not from browser, while other editors could do it...
i can't find a good reason why so can be due to it or due to 3rd party unknown reasons...
i will try to uninstall and reinstall it and see if it gets fixed by that

there is an offer to buy. Is this for the lifetime version? And can it be installed on a laptop and a PC? Thanks

Reply   |   Comment by Rich  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Rich,
I believe the offer to buy will get you a lifetime's use of this v4 release (including the .updates).
However, updating to v5 (whenever that may arrive!) is likely to need a discounted additional payment (as it did from v3 to v4). [I'm not part of the company, so that's just from my personal experience!]
Yes, you can install on both PC and laptop using the same license code.

See, I never understood why a word processor needed to be several hundreds of MBs.
I've used the WP from MS works for years after MS had abandoned it as it was reasonably compact. Meanwhile every new edition of Word just acquired more bloat. Now there are several free, open source office suites out there, better then MS I would say, but still with many functions 99,9% of users won't ever need.

Didn't have one installed atm so am very pleased with this nice little program. Customized it at first startup, added my own native language next to English and all set. Perfect.

Many thanks and props to the developers of Atlantis for following the KISS rule.

I just paid the reduced price of $9.00 for the full version, not that the GIVEAWAY version is any different, but for me, a word processor with updates is indispensable, and worth every penny. An excellent product with .docx compatibility

Confirmed working on virgin XP SP3 :-) I'm very glad that it is possible to write software that way than allows run it on beloved OS.

Today I found (1.5.1 last Atlantis giveaway) that new version has Quick Personalization option, and it is possible to tweak a toolbar and few interesting things. Happyli welcomed document theme settings - it will be convinient for night working persons.

Great job Atlantis team. THANK YOU ! ! !

Based on my personal use for the past many years, Atlantis does everything that I need in style, formating, borders, inserting pictures, columns, hi lite, and mine, I don't remember what version it is, incorporates Wordweb dictionary on the toolbar. With such capability and small size, capibility to open and save doc and docx files, no one needs huge word processors including the MS Word. Have not touched Word for over a decade. Thank you and other developers must learn from Atlantis that making their program huge does not make it attractive and making consumer think they're getting their money's worth.

Thank you very much for this app GOTD. Powerful performer in a little package. My only problem is that I don't seem able to pair this word processor with my wireless printer. It just cannot detect my wireless printer. Any help would be much appreciated.

Reply   |   Comment by SebKC  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

SebKC,
Atlantis will use the normal selection of printers that Windows offers (it doesn't have its own printing routines!).
If you click on the printer icon (top left box) it'll open up the printer selection box and you choose your printer there.
I wonder, are you having trouble printing from a laptop? Or some other device? Is your wireless printer recognised by the laptop (or other)?

Reply   |   Comment by JayUU  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

JayUU,
Thanks for your prompt attention.
It turns out to be the fault of my printer spooler. Problem has been resolved.
No fault of Atlantis WP.
All good now. Thanks.

Hello,

Atlantis is a really nice word processor. Light and powerful.

I found how to change language but not for the UI.

Please is there a simple trick ?

Thanks a lot.

Reply   |   Comment by Spontz  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Spontz,
I'm not sure that you can (change the language used by the UI). It's not an option I recall from the installation procedure, but then I've never sought to change from the English.
My only suggestion would be to contact their Customer Support and see what they have to say. They've always been very helpful when something's been pointed out to them.

I have used Atlantis for professional-level word processing since 2002. For years it lacked the tables function, and a few others, but is now replete. It produces ebooks and saves to several formats. I had two main points of affection for it: 1) the sty;les assignment is easy and infinitely tweakable; and 2) the program is very very fast. Your current word processor may be draggy by comparison and you may not notice the fatigue generated by that condition. For not-taking it starts in a click.

Once I installed the soft and typed in first word in Polish, it asked me to download Polish spellcheck. Now it runs smoothly. Great soft indeed!

I've been using Atlantis ever since version 1 became available several years ago.
It's the first application I install on any rebuild of Windows
It's just got better and better over the past couple of years - and doesn't have some of the little quirks of Word.
Version 4 arrived mid-2020, and each release has brought new features to the program.
Once you get used to using Atlantis as your WP program you'll be hooked: if you want to, you can run it entirely from a USB stick which you can take with you and use on any Windows PC without any effect on the host. It's truly portable.
If you're used to a 'trypewiper' then you'll probably like the 'sounds' from the keys - but you can always turn them off!

Reply   |   Comment by JayUU  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+27)

JayUU, I love how you even put quotes around this... 'trypewiper'.
My spell checker doesn't even want it here. ;)

Reply   |   Comment by Tran  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Tran, that will depend not of the software but of the fonts ypu have installed in your PC. Google for "Polish fonts".

Apparently Atlantis Word Processor is a Canadian product, menu English, could also be French. With different "SpellChekers" including Polish!

Tran, There is in Tools>Language a 'Default Language setting' "Associate all new Text with the following", which includes Polish.
