After I installed and activated it, my speakers went silent. Still silent after a reboot.

If all you do is open the program and then open music with WMP or Groove or another player, I don't notice much difference. They have an option to boost volume. It doesn't seem to work while playing music but if it works for YouTube it will have been worth the download. It warns that it will make audio much louder in all programs.

I don't see how to use it. There's no "load music file" menu or button.

Hi all! Does this work to enhance the sound through speakers or only through headphones?

Reply   |   Comment by NYCesq  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

NYCesq, yes it works through speakers as well

Reply   |   Comment by bti  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

NYCesq,
I installed the Ashampoo Sounndstage 2020 program on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, which I connected to my Sony Bravia TV. I watch movies online from the Internet.
My stereo has improved significantly when my sound is adjusted by this program.

In all fairness, I will not vote this program up or down because I have no intentions of downloading, or testing this software? Why? Because I believe it is impossible to replicate surround sound through headphones. I assume all this software can do is move sound around in a pattern between two speakers. If you were able to experience true surround sound through two speakers, why do all of the surround sound systems utilize between 6-8 speakers? So, perhaps it can decently emulate the surround sound experience, but it can never duplicate it.

John Davidson, I agree, I tried this software before. What they did is some kind of time delay or time shift the same stereo sound in sequence of repeating the sound multiple times that creates again some kind of echo chamber and after few minute of listening you get dizi. It is more like a feeling that the speakers are moving around you head.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+26)

No matter how many speakers, you still only have two receivers -- your ears. So if they can emulate the sound delays from the spacial distance geometry of emulated speakers to your ears, it should produce the same sound as you would really hear.

mike, I could be wrong, but I don' t agree with your statement. Using time shift, time delay and mainly phase shift, you can create "surround" sound from a stereo source. The problem is that in theory you don't have enough information to perfectly localize the sound at the right place. As a simple exemple, many computer audio test programs create a surround travelling sound from only two speakers, like with headphones.

Reply   |   Comment by Sean  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Sean, that is called pseudo surround sound and can never match the quality of a real surround sound when the whole room resonate with the base sound of the music. You can fill the pounding in your chest from the speakers behind you. No software can make your room to act as one giant speaker.

John Davidson, several years ago a company (I think associated with Triton headsets ??) demoed surround sound from stereo headsets at an expo and amazed everyone. There was a demo file that could be downloaded and I can tell you it did what it claimed. I just did a brief search and cannot find it the video-clip, but I did find this on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkVyFZi8ClE
A different company, but check it out.

Sean, there is plenty of information as they are not using a stereo source - they are converting surround sound to be heard using a stereo headset.

Reply   |   Comment by Phil Alderslade  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

That's pretty much any digital audio modification does: adding and subtracting various delays at various levels. You can do that for equalizers, filters, phasers, flangers, pitch shifters, all kinds of effects.

The biggest problem is that this assumes that your ears are stationary. If you move around the room, since it doesn't have an input to tell where you are, no matter where you go it'll assume you're in the same place where it started, and give you the sound you would have gotten there.

I have not seen on a google search a reason for not using this app...

Why so many down votes?

Reply   |   Comment by casperimproved  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

casperimproved, well, I gave it a downvote because after I installed and activated it, my speakers went silent. Rebooting didn't help. I am now without audio.

I'd uninstall but I have no guarantee that that would bring back my audio.

I too had problems with this product, extracted the files, ran setup, activated the product (I already had an Ashampoo account) but when I tried to run the program, I got the following error:-

"Installation problem
We could not connect to the Soundstage driver
Please restart your machine or reinstall Ashampoo Soundstage"

I did both and got the same error, uninstalled the product.

Very disappointing.

I downloaded and installed this software. After I registered the program I got the following notice:

Installation problem: We could not connect to the Soundstage driver. Please restart your machine or re-install Ashampoo Soundstage.

Got the same message after a restart.

Doesn't have errors for me, but I'm not impressed. I have a pretty good quality headphone, but this makes music sound "canned". For videos, it's a bit better, but there's not much improvement over the standard "sense of space".

A simple question - if this software is just for converting audio output then why does it require access to the microphone on my PC? (I keep access turned off by default)

Terry I, Feedbacks are bad especially if you have your mike close to the speakers, then you get screaming feedback which is ten time worst like 10-20 khz pitch and with the volume at max level. I got your pun.

Terry I, but if you leave feedback, then you're going away from the feedback so it should be less of a problem. (You want puns?)

I downloaded this from another site several weeks ago, but unfortunately the two Creative Audio cards (Audigy) have the older motherboard connection and do not fit on my new motherboard. When I tried to run the program a window popped up with the following message:

''There are no Creative products installed and running on the system that supports ASIO - (ASIO = Audio Stream Input/Output, and is a cross-platform, multi-channel audio transfer protocol that is popular with many manufacturers of audio/MIDI sequencing applications. It allows software to have access to the multi-channel capabilities of a wide range of powerful sound cards).
