I also enjoy Ashampoo products. I downloaded and installed Ashampoo Burning Studio 2020, Burning Studio 2019, and Burning Studio FREE ( a good basic burner ), all from their web page, on April 26,2020. NONE of them required an e-mail address, or opening an account. I got the same version of 2020 that was here without any hassle. Go to their web page, click downloads, change operating system to ALL, change product type to Full Versions (FREE). 24 full programs available. I use WIN 8.1

I have more Ashampoo software than any other vendor, most purchased but some free. I've never had any problems with any of their software bar PDF Pro which was a real disappointment and to be quite honest they weren't in the slightest bit interested when I contacted them. One has to get use to their Apps persistently pestering you to upgrade or buy other software whenever you start an App but its not a big problem, you just ignore and click close. Their free software is very good but usually an old version which this free offer may be but rebranded. I have no problem recommending as I say, their software is very good.

Never received the conformation email with the activation code, tried twice with one email address, and then a different email address, never got either return emails with the code needed to activate, uninstalled the app.

I started using Ashampoo Burning Studio years ago when I worked at a university in the I.T. Dept. I was looking for something simple and easy to use. That early program fit the bill and I have used it or some version for about 20 years or so. I also have used and purchased a few other programs from them. Easy to use and they work!! And I have introduced their programs to others (free and paid). I love this program and have used almost every part of it. No issues with the company and privacy.. the free versions almost always give you popups about upgrades or other programs... but that caused me to look and purchase them. Not a problem, but something to know. I would give this program a Thumbs up for sure and thanks to GOTD for offering it! ✌

I thought I'd upgrade Ashampoo Burning Studio 2017 to 2020. Installed, entered my existing email, checked my email and got nothing (100% positive no spam/junk filters). The key for 2020 shows up on Ashampoo's site, but this strict new activation method won't let you enter it and shuts the program down. I tried 3 more times with no success.

Uninstalled, I'll stick with my Burning Studio 2017.

This program has the most bizarre way to register the program. After installing, you have to reboot. Next, I run the program and the gui turns dark and a very slim pale white vertical ribbon appears asking for your email and then way down at the bottom a serial number, which I didn't see until I changed my screen font settings from 125% back to 100%. I don't have a serial. Why does Ashampoo make registering this program so difficult? Can't they just make a square popup box appear instead of a thin ribbon? I have an account with Ashampoo too. I entered that info in the thin ribbon and it failed. C'mon guys. This is ridiculous.

This program works well and I appreciate having been able to download and install it. I do not make or copy DVDs. I have used their Music Studio 7 also and found it helpful. I have used others of their programs and always found them safe and useful. Thank you, Giveaway of the Day.

This software is FUNDAMENTALLY different from previous Ashampoo Burning Studio software. This requires you to install the entire software first; and only then will you be able to ask for the serial key.
Previous versions allow you to get the serial key first.
Another fundamental change is constant checking back with website to regularly re-validate the key. This is nonsense. You do not know what else is sent from your PC to the website. After you have installed this version 2020 software do a check on the registry how many items it wrote to Registry. The number may shock you.

Inused to use the Ashampoo Burning Studio exclusively. Then, last Fall I attempted to use it and it wouldn’t work. I had a license, so I downloaded an update an tried to install. It wouldn’t allow me to install saying the license was already in use. Right ... it's my license. I contacted Support. They were pretty much useless. I tried again a couple months later with the same results and the same lack of support. I downloaded a different program that I now use exclusively. Goodbye Ashampoo.

Have always liked Ashampoo software so when I logged into their site to get my license key, I decided to poke around a little in their downloads section. To my amazement, they have a section of FREE DOWNLOAD software which includes several others. Some current, some not so current. Worth a look...here is the link I used for Windows programs:

I'm still not sure how a program like this can be called a burning "Studio" and not even have the ability to create basic DVD menus, only PC graphical menus and slideshows.

As much as they may try to say it is, this is NOT an all-in-one solution for burning. It's good at what it does, as long as you are copying or archiving data or media. Authoring media is out.

Shampoo Burning Studio apparently burns movies only from a "prepared folder" (that is, one in which you must have first created VOB, IFO and BUP files). Apparently it cannot directly burn a viewable DVD directly from a standard video file (i.e.: AVI, FLV, WMV, MOV, or MP4). Is this correct? If so, I'll pass.

I've used Ashampoo products for at least a decade, and they are a quality company, with good products. If a product of theirs crashes in use, they use the data log /abend dump to see what went wrong. I want to help them fix their software problems. Their software comes from a country that takes digital privacy very seriously.

It is a lifetime license in the sense that Ashampoo giveaways are normally a version or two old. Latest is 20, not 2020. They normally take an older version and rebrand it with this years date. You will never see an update as it is an old version. But I've used their products for many years and they are fine.

Tester,
You can install, keep, and use multiple versions of Ashampoo software. Each installs in its own folder.
If you like specific features of different versions, you can have them all! That is why I love Ashampoo software.
Thank you Ashampoo & GAOTD!!!

Tester, I think Internet connection is required only if you want rip a CD for naming the songs tracks..

The only negative thing I found about Ashampoo products is the large space that the installed programs occupy in the hard disk, in this case about 450 MB

Reply   |   Comment by Roberto P.  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

An Internet connection is required to activate the program. The program license is verified repeatedly at regular intervals.

For some services an Internet connection is required Internet connection may be required to verify the serial number during usage of certain features.

Hmm, it is a "lifetime license," right? Then, once it has been verified, why would it need to be "verified repeatedly at regular intervals."? I mean, I could see verifying it if an update is installed, but it sounds like that is not likely, unless there are minor updates within the same version #, such as v20 to v20.1.

Tester,
>"If it's free, especially if you buy the program it's yours to use however you like and whenever you like. An analogy being, if you bought an article of clothing or somebody gave you an article of clothing, you shouldn't have to contact the company every time for permission the wear it"

Unfortunately, your analogy is wrong because your premise is wrong to begin with. Most of us do not purchase software.

I am a retired software developer, and over the past 40-50 years, I have written many software programs for enterprise companies, and I have installed thousands of computer programs on my personal computers as a user, but I have never purchased a single program in my entire life. The only software programs that I own are the ones that I developed myself.

It is extremely rare to even be offered the opportunity to purchase a software program; it usually happens only when another software developing firm would like to sell a program that they no longer want to maintain or market, and that can be for various reasons (changing market audiences, going out of business, etc.). The reason is simple. Software developers don't market and sell the program; instead, they sell a license to use the program. The license explains the rights of both parties. Users get to use the program, but they do not own it.

When you purchase a shirt, you are not purchasing a license to wear the shirt.

Intellectual property is a huge investment for the developer, possibly worth millions, so naturally, there has to be a way to allow users to take advantage of the software, without giving up the rights to the software. Of course, the developer could sell the program outright but it would be at a far greater price to compensate the developer of what they would lose compared to selling licenses to the software, and there would be only one user.

The current business model of selling licenses is a greater way for many users to have access to the program at a much more reasonable price. Having multiple users mean a lot more feedback that causes a program to evolve and grow.

You will hear many others use the term "purchase" in relation to software the same way you did. Almost everyone does it, including software developers. Regardless, it does not change the true intent.

My main point in this is that I am not criticizing you for using the term "purchase" in relation to software as if it is the same as "purchase" for a shirt, but instead, I hope you will think about how the analogy does not apply to software licensing.

I have paid lots of money for licenses of software over the years. I am like you in wanting to use a software program that I have paid a license fee to use as often as I want. Therefore, I spend some time to review the actual license before spending any money. As a result, I have turned down a lot of software, based solely on their licensing. Also, it can be important to go beyond the licensing agreement. For example, if updates are free until a major version number change, but the company has a history of jumping to the next major version number too rapidly, they are ensuring they always get to charge for any updates even though they are advertised as free. Yeah, briefly, but not for as long as they pretend to offer. I track those and warn other potential users.

When I started software development, we didn't have an Internet to connect to, and still we had license keys that ensured valid customers were the ones using the software. The Internet is simply a way to repeatedly check the license more than when it was originally licensed. Is that good or is that bad? A license is like a lock. A lock is to keep an honest person honest. All can be broken eventually. The Internet has caused a much more rapid exchange of data, including how to break locks, and yes, licenses. Licensing has changed to adapt. It is a sign of the times. It can be frustrating when a connection to the Internet is not always available, but Ashampoo is not doing anything much different than other companies in this regard. Their licensing is pretty fair compared to many others.

Ashampoo Burning Studio is not a terrible product, but it is not what it could be.

Thanks for the Lifetime License!

That is rare these days and very generous of you.

I had Ashampoo burning software on my last computer from an old giveaway here. I seem to recall solid performance and my only complaint was nag screens, which I chose to view as the price of free software.
