Used both Aomei Partition Assistant Pro and Aomei Backupper today to backup a failing XP MBR hard drive and restore it to a leftover hybrid hard drive-SSD.
Happy, but (1) I needed EaseUS Partition Manager to explore a hidden partition (confirming it was Dell utility files) and force that old partition to become logical and hidden because Aomei wouldn't do it, and (2) I needed Macrium Reflect Free to repair the Master Boot Record when the Restore didn't boot. (I did the restore in Aomei in two separate partitions.)
Aomei should also have these features.

It says it can't find my drives and that another program has them locked. I rebooted and no program is running but it still says the same.

If this is free why is it asking me for the license code??

Reply   |   Comment by Bonnie  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-25)

You have to enter the code to "unlock" the software. Most software require this. But as today it is free, you don't have to buy the code, just enter it.

In installation package of PRO version of AOMEI Partition Assistant should be included two kinds of installation software. One of them is AOMEI Partition Assistant(PA), the other one is AOMEI Dynamic Disk Manager(DDM). PA is used to manage basic disk, and DDM is used to manage dynamic disk. If your disk is not dynamic disk, it is not necessary to install DDM. They can be activated with the same license code.
It seems that GOTD version of AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional does not have DDM included, so it has not full Dynamic disks and dynamic volumes management?

Reply   |   Comment by deni  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hi deni,

Yes, it should be. But GOTD setup.exe can only wrap one installation. Besides, the disk type of most users is basic disk. If GOTD users also need DDM for dynamic disk management, please contact support@aomeitech.com. We are glad to provide DDM for free. Thanks for your support!

Best regards,
AOMEI Technology

Had ver 5.5 from when I originally setup the computer and added a SSD.
I wish 5.8 would not force the removal of the prior version, in case something goes wrong with the new one.
Make removal optional, it asks currently, but aborts install if you click no to removing the old one.

Changing the name of the folder for the older version (and recreating any shortcuts) should work.

Try renaming your old version first it may help

Installed and registered without any problems, on opening the clean and easily readable interface is presented.

Aomei in my experience create quality software ; this fact was tested today when I used their backup program.

On attempting to remove Hotspot Shield on my other drive I lost my Internet connection, all the data in local area connection disappeared. And today I decided to try it on this drive, but first I backed up my system partition.
I did attempt to do with today's download but it required unallocated space on the USB drive I was going to copy it to.

So used the backup program; thankfully I did as Hotspot Shield again destroyed by network system and I had to restore system using Aomei.

Both the backup and restore operated faultlessly and I see no reason that today's download shouldn't be of equal quality.
I have in the past used their partition program and never had any difficulty or malfunction after such an operation.

Good quality software well worth downloading

IMO the best partition manager out there. Tried a lot of them, but no one did the job as good as this one.
It helps out the sh.. a lot of times in the past (was using version 5.1).
Thank You Aomei and GOTD.

I will stick with what works for me. MiniTools Partition Free Edition. No need for the fancy features.
...
Don't mess around with converting MBR to GPT.
Creating a Windows PE boot disk without AIK? Well if you say so. May not be a good idea. But YMMV.
What is the point of a Windows PE boot disc in a partitioning software?
Was that thrown in just to give the impression to the consumer that he gets more for his money?
This is not a bare metal backup & restore software.

"Don't mess around with converting MBR to GPT. "

Agree, but sometimes you don't have much choice.

"Creating a Windows PE boot disk without AIK?"

Several apps that let you create bootable discs/USB sticks will download just a portion of the installation kit [AIK], & might even delete the leftovers once they've gotten the part(s) they need.

"What is the point of a Windows PE boot disc in a partitioning software?"

You can't move files that Windows is using while Windows is using them -- that means a lot of partition operations can only be performed when Windows is not running. Many apps will reboot the device into a mini-OS, *nix or WinPE, stored on the hard drive or on a disc/USB stick, then run a version of the software to carry out whatever partitioning tasks. As far as WinPE goes, it's just an underlying mini-OS for the software to run on, and *may* be easier for the developers than using *nix in the same way.

Hi ric,

With Windows PE bootable media, you can boot a crashed computer or a computer without any operating system for recovery or maintenance purposes. Besides, performing some operations under Windows PE environment is safer than Windows.

Why does the limited time offer for us of $19.60 suddenly turn into £17.60? thats not a conversion in current currency rates

Well, as a "Just in Case" measure - I shut down my computer & re-started it, and re-downloaded the files yet-yet-yet again.

However, I did not have any expectation of a success - and I was absolutely correct in that assumption.

The program STILL baulked at running the setup.exe.

I'd like to hear if anyone HAS managed to run this set up!?!?!?!

If not, commiserations from "Far Cathay" where it is now 20:41 Hong Kong Time.

Install to Windows 10 x64 went without issue including registration with the key located in the readme file.

Tested a few basic operations (delete/create/resize partition), and no problems there either.

I have been using AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard for more than 2 years. Yet it has not failed me or created any nuisance on my Windows 7. I am happy and satisfied with its service. Actually, all AOMEI programmes are very much reliable and efficient too. Though I hadn't used any paid version as all my requirements are filled by the free version but obviously paid version has more advantages.

For those who are looking at the differences between last giveaway version 5.6 on December 16, 2014 and today’s giveaway version 5.8, here's the change log: http://www.disk-partition.com/changelog.html

Some tips before performing any operation on hard disk partition:

* Check partition to repair bad sectors and fix file system error.
* Backup your important data.
* Clear any junk.
* Disk defragmenter.

Other AOMEI Freeware I am using and also recommend:

AOMEI Backupper Standard: http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html

AOMEI Onekey Recovery: http://www.backup-utility.com/onekey-recovery.html

This may be the best Partition manager out there, so thumb up for me. That said, I have just lost the entire data of a HDD (2TB), trying to convert a disk to GPT. Fortunately I have made a backup just this morning.
best practice is to make a backup before every operation, but that means you will need at least one spare HDD

Reply   |   Comment by Gordon  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+34)

Gordon,

Thanks for your support. Backup is always important before making any change on hard disk. You can try our free backup software - AOMEI Backupper Standard, which allows you to backup entire disk to a local/external HDD, NAS device, network shared folder, CD/DVD disc and USB drive.

All the best,
AOMEI Technology

"I have just lost the entire data of a HDD (2TB), trying to convert a disk to GPT. Fortunately I have made a backup just this morning."

At the beginning of the drive, the way data's stored about the drive's contents is different for MBR & GPT drives. A full disk image backup will normally include that, so if you restore a disk image backup of a MBR drive to a GPT drive, you'll wind up with a MBR drive when you're done. Depending on the software you're using, you can usually select just a partition to backup &/or restore -- you can often select just a partition to restore, even if your backup contains the entire disk -- & while your mileage can vary, that or just copying a partition might help when you're trying to convert a drive.
