Installed and followed the directions to activate. All seemed okay, was even downloading some nice playlists off YouTube, but........I paused the downloads, did a restart and everything hit the fan....

The program starts normally, and shows the vids that are still queued to download, but they are all showing in waiting status, even after I tell it to resume. But that is not the worst thing -- the program is now asking for my YouTube credentials. I put in my credentials, double checked them before pressing the okay button and what happens? It just comes back asking for my information, again and again and again and again. I checked the credentials with YouTube and they worked just fine, but for some reason this program won't move until it gets the right stuff and alternatively it won't just let you cancel out of the dialog and continue without credentials.
Basically, we are dead in the water now. Extremely disappointed. This program had such promise and was working great until suddenly it wasn't. If I can't get a solution in the next day or two I will uninstall in favor of other programs that ARE working.

Hey David
The description says it downloads 4K videos, but as I mentioned in a previous comment it wouldn't download a 4K .mkv video from YouTube but would only download it in 1080p even though the quality was set to Highest. Was hoping you or someone would respond. Thanks.

Downloaded and installed but couldn't get it to download anything. As someone else mentioned the UGI is ugly and looks very dated. I use a freeware program called Free Download Manager to down load You Tube videos and it works a treat, no file conversions needed, just down load and play the video. Don't use Spotify so don't know if it will work or not, but it can be integrated in to Edge and Chrome. I'll stick with what I have, it serves my purpose and just works. This software, has plenty of room for improvement. Uninstalled.

Since this comes so highly recommended by some of you I took the plunge. Other than you tube, are there any good sites you like to use (other than porn... stop it)? Will it work with paid services like YouTubeTV or anything like that?

Reply   |   Comment by Rocky Conner  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Rocky Conner, Yes it supports many websites like youtube, vimeo, twitter, facebook, spotify, soundcloud, tidal, daylimotion, porn video websites etc websites

David, I attempted to convert a youtube TV video (not a video on youtube) but it seemed to be asking for a youtube login and password. Not sure if it's not supported or just confused.

Reply   |   Comment by Rocky Conner  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Rocky Conner,

Since YoutubeTV is a paid service, the software needs to be able to authenticate itself to YoutubeTV in order to gain access to the content. That's not to say that it will work, as I don't have YoutubeTV so am unable to try.

The same will be required of any pay service, or service that requires an account, that you try to download from. It doesn't necessarily have to be a pay service.

I had a prior version installed from a previous Giveaway of the Day. I used the "upgrade" button in the app to install the newer version and registered it with the code in the "readme" file. This worked flawlessly and I was able to immediately download a youtube video as an mp4 file. I ran across one glitch, however: When I opened the "about" window from the "help" menu to confirm the registration, the app froze completely. I had to use "task manager" to close the program. I did this twice to confirm that it wasn't a one-off.

No problem installing or registering, but no luck since. I've tried downloading several YouTube videos without success. Currently, the progress bar shows over 38m elapsed, with 0% progress. The video is 3 minutes long. I set the program to download the video, convert it to OGG, and delete the original. I tried turning off my AV (Avast) but that didn't help. The program has only used 17 msec of CPU time in 40 minutes, and the CPU time isn't increasing. I'm using a Win10 computer with all updates applied and plenty of RAM.

David, I did contact support, but the installer they provided generated all kinds of errors. The fix was to turn off my antivirus (Avast) during the installation and override Windows' complaints about an unknown publisher. It's distressing that both Windows security and Avast reported suspicious activity by this tool. I'm going to check it with Malwarebytes. If it also complains, I will uninstall.

I'm confident that this app will perform exactly as well as the free youtube-dl program.
Since this program is essentially a graphical front end for the command line youtube-dl program - you can even find the executable youtube-dl.exe in the installation directory.

I'm not saying that the program is useless, it will be handy for those who aren't comfortable with the command line, but you can be certain that this program will do no better than youtube-dl (which is great).

If you are interested in getting the command line version, just google it.

I wonder how the authors of youtube-dl feel about someone else selling their hard work.

Thanks Allavsoft for this software today.

Basically, it has much, much less complex settings than tartube but there are a few things that require remediation ASAP.

1. Without any doubt, this is the ugliest UI I've ever seen, and no way to change it.

2. It creates a bunch of sub-directories within a sub-directory of the chosen download folder. These directories belong to, and should be located in, a temporary folder. Because of that, I have to (a) move the file up to the folder I chosed in the first place, and (b) delete the "Download" sub-directory.

3. It does not remember the last saved folder so you have to go to options to set it each time you want to download more than one file to that folder.

4. It should ask whether I already got ffmpeg installed somewhere. I'm fed up with all those ffmpeg scattered in several places.

Reply   |   Comment by papin  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

papin,
1. If you computer screen display is 4k, please try the following setting:
Find the videodownloader.exe file in: C:/program files (x86)/allavsoft/video downloder converter

Right click that file and select properties from the drop down menu.

Select the compatabilty tab

Select Change high DPI Settings button

put a tick the Use this setting to fix..... box AND also a tick the Overide high DPI scaling box

Select I open this program from the first drop down menu

AND also select System from the second drop down menu.

Close the compatabity window by selecting OK and close the properties tab by selecting Apply

2. The Download folder will store the original source file, if it meet your need, there is no need to check before Automatically Convert to. You may delete other folders beside Download folder after the download process is finished.
3. You may click Option-Preference to set the output location and then it will not change every time you use it.
4. ffmpeg is used to convert the video or audio format.

Software is decent and lifetime license is nice. Problem is, I've used their prior GOTD offerings almost exclusively to download YouTube vids but since YouTube changes its codings and layouts fairly often to block downloading, the software quickly becomes useless for its intended purpose.

I have it but it works when it can work, seems to take a long time before it senses some connection of media to download...you wait and wait and wait, and I have hi-speed Spectrum internet!
Even some YouTube videos won't download, among other sites...picky, picky, picky. I still use VideoDownloadHelper and AntDM, which are far superior than this product.

bob, That's a fundamental misunderstanding of not only what they're offering, but the definition of lifetime license, as well.

Their offer is a lifetime license WITHOUT updates. Lifetime license means the software functions for as long as you choose to use it and you never have to uninstall it. Their offer, without updates, just means you won't be able to update it, unless you purchase that right, sometime later.

Keep in mind that although the product will function for life, it may not function properly, as some websites change the way they present their content, which means the download app has to change to meet those new requirements. That's where the update part comes in.

I hope that helpful.

I've been installing newer versions right over the older ones all the time with no problems at all.
Hope this helps.

Not a keeper ...
Can't download Facebook videos...not even 15 sec videos.... I stopped when it was 6min and no progressive shown...
Same thing with Youtube 1.15 min video... no success o that either
Only thing what it worked on good was the recorded...
It can't recognize the second screen...
I first downloaded the trial version from their page v. 3.23.3.7740 ...when it didn't work, I unistalled it and downloaded it from here, what is ...v. 3.23.3.7735
When you register it... and after a few you check if it's registered... it isn't... and you register it again and next time you peek in there to check if it's registered... nope...

agnodike, We just test the youtube and vimeo, v. 3.23.3.7740 still works.
If it does not work on your side, please contact support@allavsoft.com and provide your video link.
Have you installed any anti virus software which may prevent downloading.

agnodike,

I try to stay away from posting here, but for this, it sounds familiar to something I encountered. I am not saying this might be the cause it is not working, but a likely suspect is in Windows antivirus settings .

I had a program that would load up and not work and I even had a program all of a sudden not load up. I contacted support at this well known photo editor company, who's program I had purchased, and after a few back and forth, I checked their final suggestion to look at my Ransomeware settings. Sure enough, in the settings the program was blocked and needed to be added to the 'trusted app' section.

Once I did that, everything worked fine on my photo editor, and the other program and allowed them to work no problem. I do believe Microsoft updated the strength of that setting a few updates past (last year 2020).

Where you find it; Settings >> Windows Update & Security >> Virus & Threat Protection (scroll to the bottom) >> Ransomeware Protection . Under Ransomware, click on the blue 'manage settings' and it should be straightforward from there.

So to end this, if you ever have a program that all of a sudden does not work, or will not load up properly and it is a well known developer, check the "blocked apps" in Ransomeware settings first. BTW, I will NOT change those main settings other then, if YOU need to add an known app, or an app you are installing to the trusted list. As, Ransomware protection is there for a reason, to stop unknown or hidden apps from running/loading.

Hope that helps and might be the culprit.

Cheers.

This program is my main YouTube downloader, and it's great for the purpose. However, this giveaway isn't the latest version......so be aware, you don't update it by accident.! That will result in an invalid licence : /

Allan F, Today, the giveaway license key can work on the latest version on our official website. After today, it will limit updates.

How to install the browser extensions? The install button is disabled in Preference --> Extensions tab for both Firefox and Chrome.

My coal fired Vista laptop with its legacy Firefox (stop that laughing...)rejected all my old downloaders and the the ones approved from Mozilla wouldn't actually download much of anything. I picked this up last time it was offered here and it worked a treat. Only problem, and it's a minor one is that it didn't play well when integrated into the ancient browser. Had to run it standalone. Not that Vista means a blessed thing to anyone here, just wanted to send a BIG thank you to Allavsoft and GOTD

Alan, It is our pleasure. If the original source file video format did not play well, you may also check before Automatically Convert to and select other video format to test it. You may get the original source file in the Download folder and the converted file in Convert folder.
If the source file meet your need, there is no need to check before Automatically Convert to

Alan,
No laughing here: the "Legacy" Firefox 5290 is one of the 4 browsers I *still* typically run, because I very much dislike many of the design changes they have since implemented, including discontinuing so many great extensions that were based on the previous architecture. One of those was an excellent general downloader (in the IDM sense), DownThemAll, which also worked very well for videos. After a prolonged period of stasis where the developers of DTA threatened to throw in the towel entirely (as many other FF extension developers did) they had a change of heart and came out with a new version that was designed to work with the new (inferior) FF architecture for extensions. Also with a version for Opera. But neither of these new versions worked anywhere near as well as my old DTA for FF 5290. I thought so highly of several of my old extensions that I carefully backed up the whole FireFox profile so that it could be preserved and restored if necessary. That proved to be a good measure against program or profile corruption, which can happen, and allowed transporting the whole kit & caboodle to other computers later on. Most of it all still works fine. Some may tell you that using older programs exposes you to all sorts of latter day dangers, but that isn't the case if you employ reasonable cautions with them. I've had current-issue Opera -- which updates itself frequently -- get compromised by a nasty website malware . . . and Opera installations are much harder to backup properly than that old FireFox has been. But I do like Opera for its superior printing capability, and certain other features.

Anyway, getting back to Allavsoft downloader, I'd heard of it for a long time, and am looking forward to trying it out. There is no single downloader that can cover all the download situations you run into. So, just as with the browsers -- and video editors or converters -- it is better to have a few of them you can call upon.

Gene,

Much better than Opera : Vivaldi
Much better than standard Firefox : Firefox ESR
My preferred browser : palemoon

palemoon is the browser you want. It is not based on chrome/chromium/IE.

palemoon only accepts .xpi (i.e. XUL) add-ons, not WebExtensions.

These extensions are available on "github DOT com SLASH JustOff/ca-archive to/" (at the bottom of the page you'll find the link to download and install). There, you'll get DownloadThemAll, CoolPreviews, etc. among more than 19,450 (not less!) add-ons.

Alan, Did you right click on the icon, select Properties, and then select Comparability mode? Did that help any, or no?

Reply   |   Comment by mraroid  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

papin,
Thanks for your comments. In regard to the various forks of FireFox, I've heard that they are not maintained nearly as well as Opera, which seems to have regular -- and stable -- releases. The market shares of these FF forks seem to be negligible. Palemoon apparently suffered a serious data breach in 2019, and it's unclear to what extent it ever recovered from that. And WaterFox got acquired by an advertising / data harvesting company, which can't be good. I sampled that privacy-oriented browser that is developed in India (can't recall the name at the moment), have heard of the Brave browser, and definitely intend to check out Vivaldi.

Gene,

Firefox ESR is a special version made by Mozilla.

Regarding other firefox-alike, I believe Brave is the only one worth trying.

Regarding Palemoon, I've been using the day Mozilla started screwing Firefox, starting with the disappearance of the status bar. I've never had any issue with security, never heard of a breach either. Anyway, if it really had a breach, it is a thing of the past.

I don't ask you to trust me, but security is a real concern to me because I don't use anti-malwares (my only protections are PrivateFirewall and browser extensions).

You really should try Palemoon, at least for the reasons I gave before, and also because your old firefox is definitely out-of-date.
