When tried to instal, my antivirus "AVG" stopped it and sent instalation *.exe file to the quarantine due to a malvare "FileRepMalware" findings. So question is whether instal such software with some possible troubles in the future, but for free. I don´t want to risk it anyhow.

My AntiVirus says it's contaminated with FileRepMalware. Not sure since GAOTD prevents such but won't allow it to be installed. Anyone else seeing anything like this?

phatfunk, yes, had the same problem during instalation. .*exe file sent to my quarantine space, so I decided to avoid this software and prevent any unexpected problems in the future from this reason.

Reply   |   Comment by DucK  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

phatfunk, I suspect your problem is your antivirus program is abusing the reputation system by flagging any new hashed executable as FileRepMalware solely because it does not have a pre-existing reputation on crowd sourced reputation services good or bad so to be on the safe side it assumes it might be bad and if it tells you it's doing something you'll be more inclined to think it is worth the resource hogging and panic false positives it throws up. The "Rep" part in the generic non-specific name stands for Reputation and in fact there is NO SUCH THING as "FileRepMalware" patterns as it's not a real detection at all!
Same for the other false positives reported on VirusTotal with this installer. Your Antivirus software is currently configured as panicware. It's not even using Heuristics to confirm these scareware false detections!

Reply   |   Comment by John Adams  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

John Adams,
You can definitely find video that you can download with this software on YouTube. If you are looking for other sites, do a search online. As for the URLs you should be able to find then in the address bar at the top of your screen, of in some cases like YouTube, click on the Share button and you can copy the URL.

Whenever I get a virus popup when using the GATD wrapper I try to download the regular trial file from the home website. Most times they allow the use of the serial that was provided in the giveaway.
Unfortunately the original TRIAL version also indicates as FileMalwareRep too!
I can ignore the wrapper error but I won't ignore the original file being a virus.
No thank you.

Not sure why, but the setup file for this software is NOT digitally signed by the publisher (or anyone for that matter)! I even downloaded the setup file off their website and had the same results, not signed. In this day, that is inexcusable sloppiness. It would be beyond easy for a malicious party to modify the installer, and there would be no way at all for the end user to know it was done. Inexcusably sloppy security, and very dangerous for their customers.

Besides all that, I tested the downloading ability from the same YouTube video I check all of these with, and... It Failed! No surprise. It downloads, but after 10 seconds, it's just a scrambled mess. I have not found a single video downloader that will just download the video, without having to do a multi-hour screen capture. Is there anything out there that will properly download this video? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu3GxJS9phc]

Reply   |   Comment by FeMaster  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

FeMaster, tried to view that video but the uploader does not allow the video to be viewed in the UK. Got another problem video without geo-restrictions?

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

FeMaster, on looking at the videos uploader duh of course it won't download it... It's a commercial members only purchasable video. No downloader should be able to pirate it from youtube for you... If you want the video just pirate a BluRay Rip using a file sharing program like everyone else that want's a pirate digital copy.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

TK,

You are incorrect. It is a FREE TO WATCH WITH COMMERCIALS video that can be watched without any type of purchase. Yes, you need a YouTube account in order to watch it, but other than that there are no restrictions (except regional I guess, based on what you found).

And like I said, it does in fact download the entire video. There is audio throughout, however after the first 10 seconds, the video is a scrambled mess.

Reply   |   Comment by FeMaster  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

FeMaster, the first 10 seconds plays here but then it either says the uploader has not allowed access in my country OR it complains about licenseing difficulties if I use TOR browser and logged in. I strongly suspect that the first 10 seconds is provided as an unencrypted video streaming file and thereafter it is encrypted and ALLAVSOFT is unable to decrypt the downloaded file. If I go to the uploaders profile page I cannot attain the videos youtube.com URL without either renting it or buying it which of course I was not going to do just to try and figure out the issue for you! I did not just search for "Into the blue 2005" because if the movie was blocked by geographic region it should not be included in searches from blocked regions.

Ooooo, previous giveaways of this I had to replace the ffmpeg.exe and associated DLL's with a build compatible with versions of windows earlier than windows 7 but this time the developer has either hacked the FFMPEG version 4.2.1 source to remove the windows 7 requirements or found a copy from a different developer who has done the work. I hope whoever has done the work has released the fork of the FFMPEG win32 x86 build source back to the open source comunity so others can make use of the work in the true spirit of open source software development that they initially benefited from in the first place in being given access to the entire FFMPEG source repository freely and openly too.

Also I note that this program installs a more recent (but NOT the latest) build of the public domain youtube-dl.exe program in its installation folder.

This public domain software is regularly updated by the project maintaners and WILL self update if started with the appropriate rights so it can over write itself with the latest build... This can be a bit of a pain but is quite doable without too much faffing around.

First the file needs to launch with elevated rights and to easily do that temporarily just right click on the youtube-dl.exe and select properties and then select Compatability tab and check the Run as Administrator on the compatability panel. then OK the properties dialog. Open a command prompt in that same folder using SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK in a blank area of the explorer window on the right pane.

And enter the following command in the prompt:

youtube-dl.exe -U

if it is permitted internet access it will go online and check for the latest release of the public domain program and report the new versions date based version number and then update itself if that is newer than its current version.
That MAY permit you to continue downloading from youtube after they've altered their servers and disabled 3rd party downloaders without having to wait for a new giveaway version that includes a more recent version of youtube-dl.exe

It's a lifetime licence, so there is plenty of opportunity in the future to assess it.

I always smile when I see that such a product supports so many sites and yet the vendor always fails to have a list of the ones that they must have tested.

There are options to choose file format and settings for the quality of output, which may be useful for more precise control of quality.

Like other such products, this is a fairly competent downloader but is so often interminable and like watching paint dry for it to finish.

Whilst there is mention of Chrome and Firefox support the extensions are not installed by default and the only option within the preferences is to uninstall, which is rather odd.

When downloading videos (and other things) I use the superior Ant download manager the vast majority of the time, followed by Fast video download for the rare times when Ant will not work.

$60 is also a very high price for hat is essentially a one trick pony.

I've had this installed from previous giveaways but to date, apart from testing new versions,I have not had a reason to use it again, so for me, it needs to improve for me to consider it as a genuinely useful tool in the box.

Gotta say, I'm quite impressed, it seems to do what it says on the tin and worked on a site I wasn't expecting. I also like that if the link download fails it suggests switching to screen recording, which is handily built-in, too. If you have need for this kind of software it's definitely worth grabbing to try out.

Downloaded same full version from GOTD in June 2019 and use it a lot for various kinds of downloads, and it works like a charm. Better than many others like 4k downloader, Any Video Recorder or YTD. If you want to download videos or music from YouTube or Facebook, this program is a must have. And by the way, I had it already updated a few times without returning to demo version or experiencing some limited functionalities. Many thanks to GOTD and Allasoft for this application !

Corylea, I use Chromium (on which Chrome is based). Every now and then, Chromium will block a download. If I KNOW it's safe (and I do have doubts about thus one), I press "Control J" while in Chromium to get to the browser's download screen. A blocked download will be highlighted, and you can override the block from that screen. See if it also works under Chrome (it should).

Corylea, just copy the URL, open the program and press the "Paste URL" button and the big blue button.

Snoopy2010, Great tip. I tried 3 times to download it and got the dreaded "Discard" icon. Your suggestion worked in Chrome just as you posted.

Corylea,
I use Chrome, and I'm having no problems at all. What antimalware is Chrome using to check downloads for you? There are several offering so call protection from malicious downloads. Sometimes I get a warning about something I know I can trust, so I download it anyway and then isolate and scan it with the antimalware I trust most, MalwareBytes. If nothing is found with that one, I can be pretty sure it is not harmful.

Can this version 3.22 be installed over the previous giveaway ver. 3.15, which specifies "no updates", or should ver 3.15 be uninstaled first?
Thanks for the program and for your help.

Eldad, thanks for your question. I uninstalled and then installed this latest version to be safe.

Stephen Bennett, since you uninstalled the old version before installing the new one, I took the other route. I installed the new version over the existing version, without uninstalling it first.

Went off without a hitch. Installed quickly and cleanly and registered easily using the new code. No problems whatsoever.

Stephen Bennett and Eldad, I launched the previous version, updated as proposed and entered the key received with this noew offer (in the zip file) and it worked also. I used it again to download something I was unable to download with two other appications (in fact it was downloading but only the pictures, not the sound) and it worked perfectly.

Eldad,
For me it ia always a good Idea to uninstall previous versions of any software of this type before installing the new one. I also look for all residual files related to the old version, and remove those too. It seems to ensure a good clean install of the new version.

I use Frostwire to download movies, I can assure you that there are movies over 15,000,000 KB in size, and Frostwire is FREE for a lifetime.

Reply   |   Comment by Patrick  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Patrick, Frostwire makes one's device into a Torrent Client and shares one's files throughout the World. Now I don't know about everyone else, but that sounds pretty creepy to me.

Reply   |   Comment by Buddy Salazar  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+17)

Patrick,
FrostWire is a BitTorrent client like µTorrent and Adware.
Allavsoft is a video downloader for streaming video sites, something completely different.

Patrick, I see no indication on Frostwire site that the program is a youtube or other streaming video site downloader but is just a 3rd party bittorrent File Sharing client with some additional bells and whistles to enhance media file sharing like a built in media player.
You are comparing Apples with Pears so to speak.

Even IF it provides an undocumented youtube etc downloader many will NOT want a bittorrent client running on their system since it can imply willingness to infringe others copyright even if you only use it for legally distributed content like authorised linux ISO's etc and never use it to illegally download pirate copies of Bluray movies.

Buddy Salazar, "Now I don't know about everyone else, but that sounds pretty creepy to me."
And highly illegal. If you don't use a VPN, then your ISP can send you 'cease and desist' notices regarding copyright theft.

I've used this downloader for a while now. It will download from Bitchute, though not from minds.com. however it will offer you the means of copying online video using the screenshot method and automatically arranges the size of screenshot to match the size of the window displayed in the downloader.

Thank you GOTD. Was just looking for latest version of Allavsoft, after uninstalling the old Giveaway version 3.22.1.7334. I use Allavsoft and VideoProc.
What is good about Allavsoft?
Allavsoft is intelligent to ask user whether he wants to download only the 1 specific video chosen if it is within a very long playlist of many videos. Thus if the playlist is very long, you do not need to wait for the list to be populated - before telling the PC that you only need 1 video.
VideoProc does not yet have such a feature.
But VideoProc has an easy to use built-in Video cutter.

Reply   |   Comment by ricohflex  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+18)

ricohflex,
4k Video Downloader will also ask you for clip or play list.
And 4k Video Downloader ist much faster to download the audio track from a video because it just grabs the audio, while Allavsoft downloads the full video before extracting the audio track from it.
But 4k Video Downloader doesn't work with HLS streaming sites. Allavsoft does.

Yet again, another company ignoring Mac users. By my calculations 70% of $99.99 is $69.99 totalling $30 so why is it £59.99 that's only 40% off.

Carol, After the 70% off discount, the lifetime update license price is $18.00

Carol, Maybe change your name to Karen and complain a bit more. Did you enter the coupon code as instructed? $18 here also.

Carol,

Not trying to offend anybody here, but, if I was a software developer I'd ignore Mac users as well. Macs only make up a small percentage of the total number of PCs in the world. It's not economically feasible to develop for a Mac without charging double or more for the same software. And once you get into price differences like that, people aren't going to buy it anyway for that reason.

There are several video downloaders, including free add-ons to browsers, and they all support the better known sites. What would make a good downloader stand out and worth installing would be its ability to support more obscure video sites or ones using hard to download video formats.

In this respect, this offer claims support of 100+ sites. But there are others claiming 1000+ sites, which is far more and would make them seem preferable.

Can the developer or someone who has tried several such downloaders comment on the above?

Reply   |   Comment by tomcat  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-8)

In fact, Allavsoft supports more than 1000 websites.

Reply   |   Comment by David  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

tomcat, are you talking about keepvid.ch ? You mentioned that one can download from 1000+ sites by using other video downloaders? Just curious to see the software you are using for 1000+ sites to compare with this software.

Reply   |   Comment by Jojoe  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

tomcat,
I have used this program for a long time. I liked it so much I purchased the lifetime license. I must admit, some of the videos cannot be downloaded from some some sites through the normal way, but this program allows you to record it and save the recording to your computer. There is a button in the menu bar area of the program that you click on, and a red square box appears where you can make it bigger or larger over the recording area. Once clicking on the separate record button, it gives you a count down from 5 and it begins to record what is in that red box area. This feature simply means, you can record anything from the web. Try it, you will like it.

Reply   |   Comment by Mardel  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

Mardel, because it uses FFMPEG to do the audio and video capturing it can only capture from sources that FFMPEG itself supports that means if windows does not provide a discrete input device it cannot capture the playing audio since FFMPEG does not support WASAPI sound capture as yet. So if the host system does not have a stereo mixer "input" device or equivilent it cannot record the playing videos sound track. And yes I know all about show disabled devices etc.

Patrick, I think you are getting confused... you are talking of file sharing probably using a bittorrent client/server in which case if you are not seeding but just obtaining a copy of a torrent you are leeching not downloading it. Technically you do not need Seeds to download a complete torrent just enough leechers which together provide all the parts of the torrent. Just one seed is all that is needed but that risks downloading the pirate copy from one source which then counts as unauthorised redistribution of an entire copy rather than just parts from here and there that are not the full content.
