I was looking for a utility to convert a handful of files. I didn't want to invest a lot of time learning the finer points of music file conversion, and I wanted a user interface that was pretty much self-explanatory. This product installed flawlessly, worked the first time, converted my files, quality is good, and I'm happy. Thanks to GOTD and Alcyone!

Hey thanks to whom ever posted this link
http://www.dirfile.com/audio_converter.htm
Have been looking for something to convert everything I have to something I can use in my truck CD player and found it on this site! On the road 12 hours a day so am as happy as a clam in sand right now.
Tried this offer today but doesn't do as well as some of the others I have tried. Think this isn't as functional as it should be if you are going to charge that price. Need to fix that sticking bug, most annoying and was the main reason I deleted it. Needs to support drag and drop too.
'See' ya tomorrow!

No use for it... I already use iTunes to play all my audio and use Sound Forge for everything else. Not bad if you don't already own sound software, though.

So many other tools available. I think I'll give this one a miss. Thanks!

@NUMBER 7:
dbPOWERAMP is NOT free! It costs $28. It's free when you download a crack... though it's illegal.

This seems like a useful audio tool.
For #45; Audcity isn't too bay for editing songs etc (www.audacity.sourceforge.net). Anyone got a good video converter from AVI to DVD. the one I'm using now (remain nameless) is soooo slooooowwwww.
p.s. Thanks again GOTD

Don't even bother to use these comments as a guide to whether a program will meet your needs or not.
Here's a classic example:
Poster #19 above (Elle, who never even downloaded or tried this program) says:
"Last time I downloaded a music converter from this site it only converted to a low bitrate mp3. Most free programs will convert to 300 if wanted. I don’t know about this one but the freeware ones have been better."
Why people would log in and post such an inane comment, unrelated to the program being offered, without even having tried it...pretty dumb.
GOTD, why don't you change this site to a PAID MEMBERSHIP site? That way you would lose the morons that feel entitled to complain about stuff for which they have paid NOTHING.
People who live by the creed, "something for nothing" and still moan are certainly not a decent customer base, anyway. Might as well take away their candy and let them be someone else's undesirables.

Hey #12.....
Good start, but you forgot to add Full HD Backup SW that will run in the BackGround. Plus ..ya know, a good cardscan type app so people like me can scan business cards directly into a Dbase or Quickbooks Pro to save me typing time while I'm backing up /upgrading my hard drive, and converting/ripping audio from DVD.....etc with a cool 3D screen saver running on my second screen. Whattya think?
But seriously, Thank You GOTD! And thank you reviewers ! The day we can all be pleased, we'll also have Peace in the MidEast.

#45 Bald One, #52 Jimbo's recommendation for MP3DirectCut seconded. It does exactly the basic editing you're wanting, remove sections or split files, fade in, fade out, also change volume. Advantage is it doesn't convert/reconvert the MP3 so there's no quality loss on basic editing. Easy to use and freeware every day.
Alcyone converter has a pretty interface but limited functionality. Looks like it's meant for CBR (constant bit rate) as it doesn't even show what the resulting bit rate range for VBR (variable bit rate) files would be after converting. If they want $30 for it on any other day it's going to need more functionality than it has, not worth thirty bucks just to have a colorful interface.

Try Audacity or MP3DirectCut

Seriously, downloading websites for viewing offline isn't that hard, if you are using Firefox, which most all of you should be it's as simple as navigating to the page while you have a connection
File > Save Page As > Name it and select you file type of choice. Done.
Ctrl + S will skip the first 2 steps.

Yeah, well I guess there comes a point when there can be no more uses for software than software you already got. Plus the really free stuff like OpenSource is getting better all the time.
Another audio converter, man, great for those that missed the last dozen.
Although a streaming media capture utility might be nice.
Oh, I don't know if I can even be bothered to be apathetic today.

Anyone know what might convert those music video "m4v" files that I paid for online??? What the heck are they and why can't I find a program to convert them easily so I can actually watch what I've PAID for? :(

#45 (bald one), check out GoldWave (www.goldwave.com, download page: http://www.goldwave.com/release.php, direct download link: http://www.goldwaving.com/downloads/gwave519.exe). It is not free, but the trial period is based on usage - not by date or time, but by number of functions used and is very generous. I use if for occassional editing and recording from line-in and I haven't used up my trial period in over two years.

#33 - Thanks for the "nifty" tip. I just downloaded Firefox 2 and am getting ready to check it out. I saw that Firefox also has a much better popup blocker add-on, among all the rest. I've hated IE for so long, but wasn't sure what to do about it. I tell ya, everyone just has to love GoTD, not just for their giveaways, but for people's comments. It's like a software learning center.

OMG! Great Job GOTD team and developers! (AKA Santa and his elves)
Any chance sometime in the near future, you might consider giving away a program to keep track of all my audio converters that I've downloaded from here. ROTFL, LOL, *Slaps knee*.
I'm a horse trader in my spare time. Sometimes that means I'm out on the prairie for extended amounts of time. Sure, I can burn a list of songs to listen to, but not ALL my songs. Mainly because they're in the wrong format. This program allows me to include them all and basically test dive them before including them. I thank you and my horses thank you. As a representative of the "equestrian world" a whole hearted THANX!
This converter isn't bad. A nice skin to the interface and very user friendly. Doesn't take forever to convert like some programs either. And you can listen to the tunes while they convert on it's own built in player. This one's a keeper.
Thx again GOTD and Alcyone!
You Guys ROCK! Woot! Yea baby YEA!

Can't imagine anyone paying 30 for this thing.
Many better freeware ones out there.

This looks good except it only has half the functionality I need. Is there any free (and easy to use) software that will allow me to do basic editing to a .mp3 file (remove sections, fade in, fade out) and then still save it as a .mp3?

I just wanted to thank everyone who posts here with their opinions and suggestions about the GotD -- and especially BladedThoth and his 15-minute review. I do read the entire list of comments (and there are often close to 40 or so when I get here) before I decide to download one of these free programs -- which usually results in my not doing so. I also really appreciate the mention of similar, alternative free programs that I might want to check out. I do love getting things for free, but my concern about freeware is that a lot of it comes with spyware, adware, etc., and I don't want to deal with that on my computer. (It runs slow enough aleady, and it's only a year old.) Do you people who have and use these freeware programs that you mention know if they are free of malware?

Oh goody. Another audio converter.
See ya tomorrow ...

Sorry GOTD. Super can convert lots more formats than this can. And it's free!
Maybe next time...

These people are having us try out trial programs which we otherwise would never want to try. thats why they would never post anything useful as we would have already heard of it, and this offer only appeals to developers who are largely unknown.
Save | Cancel
The program looked promising and useful--but it is merely a 30 day trial according to the license agreement. I would not call that a "giveaway".

Comment #31 Virus Buster. The giveaway will be totally free provided you download the program within 24 hours of the program being posted. You have to install and activate the program within his 24 hour period and then you have the full version of the program, which will remain a full program until you have to do a format of your system, then if you haven't kept an image of your registry the program will revert to the demo version. That is assuming the program was installed to a different hard drive.
As for todays giveaway. Nice interface and easy to use. I'll need to compare it to the other audio converters before I decide whether I'm keeping it or not.
Thank you Alcyonesoft amf the GAotD team
