@ #63. PR course not needed. People do however need to read what is presented to them before they click this , click that and going ahead. FYI Ive currently got this running on Vista and XP and both run fine. Im not a geek in the slightest. Too many people run before they can walk, assuming they do this, do that.. Im sure if I looked it even says this on the website here.Nothing I made note to before is anything other than common sense, something which daily shows itself as lacking from many users of the website here.

Most of the problems in this thread have been operator error and not reading what is presented onscreen, right from entry onto the website thru downloading and onto running the programme itself.

That includes you by your own admission.

To be fair, I have had enough errors during the compilation of 3 FLV DVDs consisting only of standard FLV files from you tube, that are playable in media player without errors. Other flv files in the same series were fine.

Also moving between screens/stages either at the end of creating a DVD - or during I also got several errors. This also included a repeating error that required the process to be terminated via the task manager.

I suspect a little more testing is still required. a small selection from about 2 hours of use (duplicates not shown).

#69 maybe the file you are trying to add is corrupted or damaged. try with another flv file or restart your computer and do it again if the problem persist..uninstal the program and install it again with no programs or aplications running while you make the new installation..hope it helps...

I often seem to have issues that noone writes about. I am still having to use a W2000 desktop with all pertininet service packs. This application cannot start because I keep getting an error that states "the ordinal 11 cannot be found in the dynamic link library DSOUND.dll" Is there a fix or way around this ? If not I must deete the application.

Great program. Downloaded to Vista VIA the right click Admin and burned four YouTube video's to DVD and have them now playing on my 50" Sony Plasma with no loss in quality verses what I see on my small PC screen.

following the instructions in 58 was the only way I could actually get the program to activate. First time I've had that happen with a program as well.

To register you must not install before running activate.exe. Just unzip the programme into a folder. You will then have activate.exe and setup.exe in that folder. Click activate.exe. That registers it.

Hi #35 I have Vista and it seemed to install just fine I did not have any problems at all . Hope it helped #35. than I read #45s comments and it does in fact say successfully registed even though the fields are blank thank you very much for looking it over better than I did. lol I love to read all the comments. many of you are very helpful. And I thank this web site for all the various software for FREE. I do not usually download them all but have found many we like usually run on Vista very smoothly. If I can not run it on Vista and we like it I run it on our laptop that is XP. Best of all it is for FREE. Have a warm and blessed day everyone.

Thank You #45 - You solved my problem. I didn't think to check this out because I didn't have any registration info to enter into this section.

#54 - I would suggest you take a good PR program so you can learn to communicate without offending everyone you talk to or maybe a few more years to grow up. Many of us use our computers quite effectively on the whole but we aren't all computer geeks! Most of the comments previously seemed to be directed to Vista users. I'm not using Vista and I am the administrator for my computer. As there have been legitimate problems with some of the programs activation, etc., in the past, don't assume that no one other than yourself is educated or that everyone else is computer illiterate and shouldn't be using one. When you started you weren't such a know-it-all so don't sound like one now.

A bit late tuning in..

Cons:
Makes my 2,4Ghz computer *unresponsive* during conversion due to high CPU load 100%
I am still looking for a converting program that will automatically restrict CPU drainage to 80-90%(or at least is configurable in this way).

No editing possibilities before burning.

Pros:
It is a nice concept and I am impressed by the final results.

The preview function of the flv file(s) turns out to be an excellent FlvPlayer! :)

Forget my last comment-have rerun the activation and program by right clicking and selecting run as administrator although this is the first time I have ever had to do this for any of the giveaways.

So anyone who cannot activate it try this-I am using vista premium btw

This is good for archiving my downloaded videos off the internet but also for putting together my cable show on DVD for broadcast (much easier than VHS!) with the music videos I get permission to use.

Remember to drag the set up and register icons onto your desktop AND right mouse click to open the "run as admin" option when registering in Vista. Don't have to do this with XP.

#36: It is not saying you need to be just the Administrator. On Vista, some programs require you to specifically right click on the file and tell it to "Run as Administrator" even if you are the admin on the computer. It can be annoying but I think it ties into UAC.

On a different note, I installed the program and tried to do some of the flv files on my computer, but the program just locked up for no apparent reason and does this everytime it gets to the conversion stage. Anyone else having this problem?

Well I dont see what all the problems with loading are??!

1. Read the Read me file (Thats what it's there for)
2. Run Activate
3. Run Programme

That's it. Simple really.

Clearly you have to be logged on as administrator, but that's the same for all programmes.... You DO actually know HOW to use your computer, dont you? Hmm? Registration? Click register by all means, but the activate programme you ran has already handled this... It's what it does... Activate the programme... in the correct time constraint...

The programme is great. I download a lot of Music video from YouTube and then save ot to disc, this I then pass onto friends when we are away with work for something to watch of a night-time. Where we work we 'dont use computers' due to the sand and the local radio is rubbish..
This programme therefore allows us the luxury of music and video on our DVD/TV combi when we do have downtime. It also means less Discs to look after as we can fit more on a DVD than a CD.

Nice one Giveaway of the Day and Wondershare! Thanks very much. A big thumbs up from this callsign.

I think of fast video converters like gas-saving top fuel cars. Mostly nonsense. There are SO MANY of these on the web, some with passable results, most are rotten. Keepvid.com quickest way to get the file, vixy.net is the ONLY way for state of the art conversion. Lossless. But you have to restart it about 4 times to get it to move. Insane, their portable is in beta and not too promising thus far. DVD-FLICK rocks, no one should be without it. Try this: FLV extract (freeware, will split into mp3 and AVI), convert AVI to 4x screen size and run through DVD FLICK. Keep intermediate files and resample to reduce block noise. Take the MP3 and convert (Awave) to MP2 and back to MP3 again and it will stay in sync. Often an audio editor will fix bad audio, which lots of FLVs have.

This program activated and installed with no problems. When you start the program and click the about button it will not show it as being registered to giveawayoftheday. But if you click the register button it will tell you that the program ia already registered. Just follow the instructions in the readme file when you install the program. First run activate.exe then run setup.exe. All in all this is another nice program. Thank you GAOTD team and thank you Wondershare Software.

Answer to registration problem . . . maybe.
After following instructions precisely (using "run as administrator" for both activation & set up), I clicked the Register button. Although the email & registration-code fields are empty & the options are still available, above them it clearly says FlashOnTV has been successfully registered.

Easy to overlook--I hope that wasn't the intent!

#34. The finished file is placed in a folder in the program's folder. So look in the folder where you installed the program. As far as I can tell, you are not given a choice of where to place the finished file. This is a distinct drawback, IMHO.

Like others, I've got some questions regarding the registration process. Althought it says it's been successfully registered, there is no reference to GOTD (like most other programs) and it still gives you the choice to purchase-register-evaluate. Usually, once a product is registered, the register option disappears - seems to be a quirk with this one.

There is a great open source alternative called DVD Flick(http://www.dvdflick.net/). It includes integrated DVD burner software and works flawlessly. Very simple GUI--just make sure the project setting is for NTSC video(North America) rather than the default setting of PAL(rest of the world). Otherwise your stand alone DVD player will likely tell you the disk is incompatible.

Unless the video is very rare and worth saving, why would anybody want to convert a Flash file to DVD? The video resolution of most Flash videos I've seen online is 320x240, with YouTube a little larger. The end result will be compressed and pixelated, hardly something I'd want to watch on a television.

I have downloaded some of Wondershare's programs from GotD in the past. The overall concept of this program is a miss from a company which has made quality titles.

Too many bugs, and the video and audio quality is terrible!

Furthermore, it's v3.0.16, but v3.0.17 is available on their homepage, but not compatible with the GAOTD license.

Some of the bugs and lacks:
- The window from where the video is grabbed is way to small (480x320), therefore the quality of the final video cannot be good. Furthermore, the video is converted to WMV before being converted again to DVD. The default encoding quality is Low. It should be High, or Medium by default.
- The microphone is recorded, unless you change the input device manually. Anyway, ths sound quality remains very poor.
- The end of the video is truncated, without notice, if you use the automatic mode in phase 2. You have to switch to manual more and relaunch the preprocessing.
- The menu templates are not available when you convert a single file, and you have to use the horrible default menu.
- Automatic Pan&Scan is set in the IFOs when you convert in 16:9 format! It should be Automatic Letterbox instead.
- The program does not remembers the user settings from session to session. Since the defaults are not well chosen, it's a pity to have to change them each time.
- Some very large temp files are left in your system when the program has finished the conversion successfully. They should be deleted automatically, or at least placed in the Windows TEMP folder, instead of in the Program Files.

I can't give more than 4/10. Sorry.

It looks like Vista users need to follow instructions very explicitly to make it work. (Sometimes there are many ways to do something, and all work; in this case, it sounds like there is just one, and that not what people are used to.)

First, extract the files out of the downloaded ZIP archive. Windows may just show you what is inside the archive; in that case, drag and drop those files to another place (your desktop) to get them out of the archive.

Next, right-click on the activate program and choose "Run as Administrator". Yes, you may be an administrator already; you may even be logged in as Administrator. Humor us. Right click on it and choose "Run as administrator".

If you right click on it and don't see a "run as administrator" choice, it's probably still in the archive and needs to be extracted.

You might need to do the same with the Setup program; that is, right click on it and choose "run as administrator".

The new activation process of Giveaway of the day is failing…
Well not every day, depending on the compilation version quality.
GotD have a new anti-piracy process, they have a specific version (different compilation or something like this) to activate,
not the same one the home site offer.
Sometime it work, but many time it revert after a few day, or like today it is not stable and abruptly shot down, without any notice.
Before anything: I'm the administrator of this PC, I did the routine “uninstall-re-install,download again, re-activate and all that,
it does not properly activate the software.
And today there is no way to know if it is really registered, the only thing; the nagging screen is not there on the opening.
It seems to be a full version but the trial stuff is not disabled, weird thing happen when you play with-it!
The About window is asking for registration information…
So it is not registered?
Don’t start the bragging joke or smart head phrase - it does not work!
I’ve been downloading, registering and testing software since the net exist, and I come here since the opening of the site!
This is over 3 000 proggys, I’m neither an expert nor a novice, only a download addict, or a collector, to be more accurate.
If the Giveaway of the day become a “better then trial place” I’ll simply go back to download.com, less hassle.

@Matt- screensavers are executables, not images or video. you could try a fs capture program like freez avi, I guess.

ok this converts masses of flv files to MPEG, tied together. I suppose one could mpeg-2 then divx to send a *lot* of flash onna dvd, but donno why.

Does any GAOTD'er know of any freeware title which will convert SCR to the Flash format, so that today's title could then burn them to DVD?

Thanks!
