Total Doc Converter solves the problem of converting Doc or RTF files to PDF, HTML, XLS, JPG, TIFF, or Text. Now Total Doc Convetrer also supports RVF format (Rvf to PDF, Excel, HTML, JPEG, TIFF, RTF, Text). The program has been developed to be handy and time saving. Transparent interface makes it easy even for a beginner to figure out how it works.

In fact you don't even have to launch the program. Total Doc Converter can seamelessly integrate into Windows, which means that you can just select the file, make a right button click and press Convert to. Besides, there is command line support. It is quite helpful for those who wants to launch Total Doc Converter from within other programs. Note that Shape&ImageBox option is not supported.

Total Doc Converter is invaluable when you have to convert thousands of files. Use Batch converting option and the process won't take you more than conversion of single file.

# 38, I got same experience and more. Always threw up "Cannot create file '"'. The specified path is invalid". Had I known that it will not work in Win98, I would have installed it in Win2000!!!.

#28 (Baal) - Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's completely irrelevant. OpenOffice is also free.

#41 (Cincy) - If by "re-load your computer" you mean "reinstall Windows", then no, you're S.O.L.. The software here is only free for 24H after being posted. (If you just mean reboot, though, don't worry -- as long as you don't uninstall or wipe off the software, you get to keep it.)

This product is ideal for people who don't want to wait for uploading to zamzar or who exceed their 100MB limit. Unfortunately, I see no support for WordPerfect, so I'll skip downloading. Plus OpenOffice can save and import enough document types. But thanks for offering it. I'm sure it will be right for others.

I have been needing something that would change TIF files (individual scanned graphics pages of a book on a purchased CD) into a pdf or other format so I can send to the office store to print. I see this doesn't seem to be compatible with them, or is there something I'm not doing right? Can someone suggest a program that would do that? thank you anyway, great giveaways~!

This is one of those handy apps that will be invaluable on occasion - especially the bulk conversion aspect. Looking at CoolUtils other apps shows the company certainly has the right name. Thanks!

Nice service, but program flawed: very quick conversion of MS Word 2000 file, but botched some routine fonts (bold) and page breaks: conversion not faithful to original document. Sorry, wish it worked better- maybe does so for documents with no formatting.

Zamzar works, great online service which keeps the format and includes the headers. Check it out, I will use this site. N

Well this works fine except that it does not include any Header or Footer information from a word file so it is not of much use for me without this information. Anyone know why or what I need to do to get it to include my header when it converts from word to pdf? Thanks, N

#30, Leslie: When I click on register, it says invalid code. I don’t even have a code. I don’t know where to find the activate button

Leslie, you're looking in the wrong place. You don't click on "register" from within the program itself and there is no "activate button" in the program. Close the program, then go back to the original .zip file you first downloaded from GOTD, the same place where you found the setup.exe to install the program. There is a small file in there named "activate.exe", just double click on that file while connected to the internet and the program will automatically be registered for you.

Next time you reopen the program and click on "help" and "about" you will then see that the it will be registered. These same instructions were in the "readme.txt" file that was also included in the .zip you downloaded.

This may be an off the wall question, but I am new to this great site.

Let's say you download and activate some software that you really like..... If you re-load your computer can you re-activate if necessary (or is it a one-time thing)?

Thanks

Cincy

GoTD - I really enjoy this site. Have a few comments on today's software.
On .doc to .pdf: Phil 33, I agree. If this software could convert .doc to PDF and have the same formatting it would be worthwhile.
On .doc to .html: Some of my attempts to convert .doc to html have produced empty pages with only a tag (a horizontal line) visible - the html shell was created but none of the text or formatting was included. Other conversions 'worked' but the formatting was a bit off.
On conversion to images (tiff, jpeg) it's A-OK, ditto .rtf and .txt.
Overall: the concept of this software is wonderful because it takes a few extra steps out of converting, makes it so dead easy to do. However my assessment is that DocConverter in its infancy and will hopefully improve with the help of comments like todays GoTD test panel (that's us!).

Only cuz it's free can u say it's good. I can do the same thing with docs.google.com and not have to worry about having to buy it later if something happens to my computer. It seems a lot of the s/w here is available elsewhere as freeware, check out project sourceforge, freewarefiles, etc...

Some of the freebies have been good and the games have been better than some of the regular s/w freebies.

A PDF file should look like the printed document. Total Doc Converter has some problems with that, especially if the document contains tables, pictrues, titles etc. There are many free PDF converters on the net that make the job better. Conversion to JPG and TIFF is nice but its use is very limited. Thanks for the program for free, but I wouldn't pay $39.90.

Terrible.

1. Does not retain the formating of the Word document. That's so basic.

2. Retains the directory of the first file you convert, instead of using the directory of the current file.

Not worth downloading.

As per #18, I take back my earlier comment, I see a comment on an earlier date not deleted... I just got angry after all my "This is free on Firefox/Anywhere else/for anyone with half a brain comments' disappeared constantly...

Anywho, I think the site idea is great, but the site is too restrictive here and there. Plus the authentication process is icky for most people.

Thanks for todays download again, look for more stuff like this. The site is getting better.

#2 - The practice use of this software is mostly for when you interact with people who can't open that particular format. I know some companies who go all Nortel (stupid), while some others go all Microsoft (equally stupid -- "loyalty" in software is meaningless), and so forth.

#10 (Yert) - You sure it's not the anti-spam filter?

For my own part, the lack of ODT (OpenDocument) support makes this fairly useless to me. (And OpenOffice can already do all this...) Thanks anyway, GOTD.

Thanks Kip (comment#14) for your tip; but do you always have to sound so down in the dumps about it, lol. And I see Yert is back with his loose comments; I've made plenty of negative comments and they haven't been deleted. I'm curious to see exactly what you write. Do you use any expletives???? If so that's probably why. (Sorry GoTD team, I just get really Grrr when I see the same comments from the same people, day in day out.

Personally this is a fantastic giveaway for me as I do a lot of conversions, usually in bulk when I've found a trial software; This should solve the problem. Thank you so much. Also, for the Freeware library. I spent hour's perusing it yesterday and found some great screensavers as well as alternatives to some of the Giveaways I missed. Guys, you're doing a fantastic job. I've started to save finding out what's available, till I'm in a contemplative, quite part of the day as I enjoy coming to this site, more and more.

Not only is there a "Order now" button in the "about"-window, there is also a "How to buy"-alternative in the help-meny. I bet it would take only a couple of lines of code for the creator to get rid of these, so it's kind of annoying with that in mind. But it's a minor annoyance of course, I got the "Personal License" thing, so I guess it's activated (and it works fine).
