Absolutely useless software. Uncomfortable, user-hostile interface, everything I can do here I can do myself in WinAmp. Another piece of junk.

The idea that someone would create a program that only deals with mp3 tags is simply hilarious. iTunes has a basic feature that lets you fix your ID3 tags (if they aren't already correct to begin with) and it takes about 6 seconds. Why waste time downloading and installing an entirely different program when iTunes can do it, and especially since iTunes is completely FREE to begin with? Sometimes the redundancy of these software "giveaways" just blows my mind.

I don't need tags for my music. If I can't remember the title and the album and the singer, I don't need the song.

I found this one which automatically populates the lyrics and other tags while ripping mp3s from CD. It also populated some lyrics from songs I already ripped if I had enough data in the other tags.

I prefer MP3/Tag Studio for tagging my MP3s (http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/). One thing about this program, it doesn't appear to be able to handle large collections. I fed it 3000 files and it threw up with a runtime error after about 10 minutes trying to do it. Plus, how in the world is the Save to Excel thing work. I selected ten songs from one album and selected the menu option and nothing happened (same with Text, PDF and HTML). The HELP menu actually contains no help file, that should be changed to ABOUT instead of HELP. It will actually tag individual file and small groups of files, but not that powerful in comparison to what I already have.

I much prefer the free award-winning Media Monkey to do everything this does and a lot more. It will even sync with your mp3 player so you don't have to use ugly Windows Media Player like some devices claim. I have a Gigabeat and Media Monkey works great for creating playlists, editing tags and names, autosearching for album art, and adjusting volume levels so some tracks suddenly don't blow out your eardrums.

Sorry, but I don't need a whole program like Total Tag Editor just to edit tags.

Grab Media Monkey here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/

Great software. I have tried many tag editors before and this is by far the easiest to use. Great for batch editing. #25 says right click to access tags via properties, but adding the same info for every track this way takes ages. Total Audio Tags can add artist and album tags to whole folder in seconds. Give it a try!

For a good, free, open-source tagger, try MP3 Book Helper. None of the other taggers support Unicode, which makes them useless to me. I suppose if you don't listen to anything other than English music this program might be OK for you.

I'll stick with Windows Media Player, thanks. WMP is free for any Windows user, will search for song information (from very large comprehensive database), will update all metatags automatically, will organise everything for you based on that tag info, and can rename files, can create folders, and can even move files for you. WMP can do more than this program can ever dream and doesn't require payment or downloading since it's standard feature of all Windows operating systems. This program offers nothing new to any Windows user. To charge $19.90 for a program like this is utterly ridiculous and demonstrates the gullibility and stupidity of the common customer. I think modern commercialism must be producing braindead impulse buying morons if there's anybody who'd ever buy a program like this. People above going "Oh I so needed this" and "I've been looking for something like this" just shows how blatantly ignorant and pathetic some people can be.

Hello again, small people, open your ears once more for Wise Ow's earth shaking comments today! :)

This software is truly EXCELLENT and oustanding, so I will have to give it a try. But until then, eat my delicious comments, which are as follows:

This is VERY handy for making song tags. Everyone needs song tags, especially people with songs. It could only be improved if it would also make luggage tags, but there are other programs that make luggage tags (and some people make luggage tags also).

There is also a game called "tag" which would be nice to integrate with the software one day. You could hide the software and then someone would find it. We enjoy this game all the time where I come from, and we also enjoy beer. Lots of beer. And great software, like this!

But seriously, this is a very nice program that will reduce the ugly empty space inside your computer. If you reduce the ugly empy space, there will be less room for dust to collect, another huge benefit.

The biggest benefit of all however is that you will get to tag all your songs. Even the songs that you did not pay for but that we all know you downloaded anyway. We will forgive you and allow you to tag these songs and hope that you mend your ways.

So Wise Owl says to you small people: get this software, enjoy this software, and eat good healthy food. And be good to your screen savers, because they are good to you.

Your friend,

Wise Owl

I would like to thank GOTD for free software, now I don't always use or need all of it. Come on if you don't like it then don't. It just amazes me how people whine over small things. One this gives companies feed back which is helpful to them. Whine is not a feed back, well I don't think it is.

Foobar2000 can do all this and more - and it's not just free, but open source.
Tag files? Yup. Tag files depending on filename, other tags, etc.? Yup. Rename files according to their tags? Yup. Mass-tagger? Yup. Live show tagger? Yup. Re-do tag operations ("scripts") you've done before? Definitely! Import/export to TXT? Sure. And the way Foobar displays your songs in the playlist is extremely customizeable - stop by the forum to see the various designs people come up with. ID3v1/2? Pah - Foobar2000 even handles APE tags. As for exporting to other formats like HTML - not sure, but there's probably a plug-in for it ;>

Foobar2000: Encouraged Tag Standards

If you need any help with getting any of that done in FB2K, ask in the forums, or ask me at my site - I'd be glad to help. :>

I download a lot of podcasts and get titles like 07624hr1_JoesTalk
which needs to be changed. I often have to manually type this in to make it readable like to Joes Talk Hour 06-24-2007-1.

In the ID3 tag, I have to retype this into the General to change it and also I also have to type the same into the summary section in the artist and title section...so I don't get the unknown artist unknown song errors.

My question is...does this program take what you type into the General and also add it to the artist and title section automatically?

Maybe I need a file renamer instead....

I agree with #11, the software was exiting because i thought it would change them automatically, but nope, it's basically iTunes' tag system completely ripped off.

The only thing good about it is that it's not a bandwith stealing whore like iTunes, but who cares about that? Waste of harddrive space IMO.

#26 There are quite a few plugins that will add karaoke lyrics to a media player. As ever I dislike paying for software and personally use minilyrics which is shareware but only demands payment with one nag screen when it first loads. Best of all it will actually search for the lyrics of any song you're playing once you've configured it correctly.

Their site's at http://www.crintsoft.com/minilyrics.htm

For those who don't trust the many freeware applications or have missed the several earlier GOTDs that perform these functions, this is easy-to-use software that does what it claims to do capably. It does nothing, however, to earn a $20 price tag. I'd rather stick with something that I can replace easily if need be. Thanks just the same GOTD, the effort and the offer are appreciated.

Congratulations to Vilulf for revealing himself as a pathetic, asinine child for the sake of being the first among all the pathetic, asinine children to throw up a post. Well done, little fella.

I didn't know programs like this were available and that I was just stuck with 'Unknown Artist' etc, so when I first saw this I thought it would be very useful and downloaded and installed no problem. The program has a very easy to use interface and I was able to change the tags of my songs without any problems, so overall I was very pleased with this giveaway untill, that is, I saw #11's comment, and discovered I can do the same from his/her instructions so I really don't see a use for this program. I did notice that going by #11's instructions you can also add the lyrics to the songs, but I could not figure why you would want to do this, unless there is a program that shows the lyrics whilst the song is playing i.e a Karaoke program, perhaps somebody would be kind enough to tell me.
#16 You CAN batch convert your songs, just click the boxes on the left of the ones you want to batch convert then click on ‘View/Edit’ and input the relevant information leaving where necessary.
Total Audio Tags is good at what it does, but not really needed, as you can already edit the tags without this program.

Gonna download this and give it a try.
