Why is this version, 6.0, an older version than the previous version of 7.7.1 that was offered here. When I click on the help home page is goes to same site and has the same program name but the versions are different. Anyone know why? What is the difference?

If anyone has any problems installing this program or any other program for GOTD all you have to do is download the program then go into Safe Mode, install the program. It works just fine no problems whatsoever. I posted a comment earlier and i now see it was not posted. Thanks.. So i see you don`t like my comments to even post them. Thanks GOTD!!!

re #32 - As a 'budget' audio editor, it doesn't have an equalizer, you can always try something more expensive! That said it gives me excellent results unless the original recording is atrocious quality!!!!

Quite incidentally I find Audacity practically useless for improving pre-recorded tracks. Wavepad is good just for noise reduction, but for most tracks I can get studio quality results with today's GOTD, mostly very or quite easily even from poorer 128Kbps tracks.

NCMedia Sound Editor Pro 7.0 - GOTD
http://soundeditorpro.com

NITBits Sound WaveMax Sound Editor 5.0.1 - GOTD
http://www.wave-max.com/features_soundeditor.html

SED Systems Sound Editor Deluxe 6.0.1 - GOTD
http://www.soundeditordeluxe.com

SmartAudio Systems Smart Audio Editor Personal 6.0 - GOTD
http://www.smartaudioeditor.com

What is the similarity in all of them? Right, they are all giveaways from here and they all have the same screenshots for preview purposes and they all have the same company description, only NCMedia is a little bit different and they also have the same serial algorithm (only the first 3 digits are different, depending on the main program). ;)

Who was first? Or which one is the "original"? Well, NCMedia claims to come from Europe/Denmark, where all others are registered in the US but the telephone number of NCMedia is from the US too. So i would assume that NITBits is something like the main site, founded only in 2005 but offers more separate products but i surely could be wrong.

I already got the first three one's, i don't need a 4th product with the same features because i'm too confused right now. Anyway, thanks for the giveaway.

I had problems with the download from GAOTD - I had to download from creators website.... installed and registered OK....

text to speech function does not work in my installed version. I've tried several times.... I get the message "File Access Error".
I tried mono, I tried stereo setups. Microsoft Anna is not speaking!

Note to developers,

1) I think I like the Cool Edit Pro version better. I like to interface better.

2) Stop changing your name - you have no brand identity

3) software needs a real time multiband parametric EQ

4) related - you could really be taken seriously if you worked on REAL-TIME editing functions (instead of "to see the change hit the preview button")

5) Come out of the shadows and keep an identity. You have a base for a great software package, develop it and create a real brand. Otherwise your creeping us out ! ( .... why do they keep changing their name?)

This is going to be very boring...

Pros
- I give 10 stars out of 10 stars for their website, its very professionel made !
- I give 5 stars for the GUI. The GUI is a mix of old and new look, it works, but thats all !
- I give 1 star for the programs features. The features is very basic and don´t make the program professionel !

Cons
- Leak of features !
- Not complete - "Smart Audio Editor is a professional audio editor that makes your PC or laptop a complete home recording studio."
"Complete" mean that you´re not missing anything, but that kill all future updates/upgardes of the program !
"Home" mean that you´re closer to the tools, but in this Personal Edition you can´t use your work in public !
"Recording studio" mean that you´re able to produce, but it don´t give you the rights to use other peoples songs/music !

Conclusion
I have Cakewalk Music Creator 6 and this program have all kind of feature that you could dream of, including import of videos ! The price ? Well, you can buy the Cakewalk Music Creator 6 now and it only cost you $39.99 !

The program is NOT free on their website as stated by "Ken". It's a "Free Download" which is deceptive developer code for "Evaluation Copy", in this case, 30 days. You can play with the trial version but cannot save anything!

I agree with # 4, their Math skills are very poor, furthermore they state: "Reasons to Go Deluxe", then you only find:
Personal and
Business
and where is Deluxe ???
Anyway installed on my laptop and compared with version previous version distributed by Giveaway, 2009 version is much better.
Checked, thested and uninstalled!

Very excellent Audio Editor for quick results. Yo can move the sliders 'on the fly' during preview in Noise Reduction. Don't know if they've fixed having to restart every so often, after a number of audio edit options.

I use this for getting tracks right for broadcast for my radio show, except when it's a very poor recording - when I have to resort to the much more expensive 'big brigade' audio editors!

Checked on the website, I found nowhere description of previous or different versions.
Does anyone know which is the difference between the version offered today and the one offered on June 17, 2009 (by the way the one offered on 2009 was version 7, this one is version 6).

I asked to their support 4 hours ago and got no reply

Yet another "sound editor" is Sound Editor Deluxe. Personally my favorite but basically the same as this Smart Audio Editor/Sound Editor Pro (which are the exact same product), but Sound Editor Deluxe, from SED Systems, has in my opinion a more attractive interface. That is it. In essence, all sound editors of this type are exactly the same underneath and completely free if you are smarter than a 5th grader.

Thanks to SmartAudio Systems and GOTD.
Easily downloaded and registered with the given keycode.
Yes, we can type in our own chosen name when registering.

Tested it with a specimen piece of music.
This software has EXCELLENT graphical icon interface with clear descriptive text ballons of what the commands do.
This makes it easy for a novice to use.

I have used various other Paid as well as Free music editors and they are not as easy to use as this software.

You can CUT out part of the music, which is then copied automatically to the Clipboard, later to be saved as a new file.
Of course you could also TRIM (which means the rest of the file is chosen). The part you trimmed is removed.

You can download the SmartAudioEditor setup file from their website, and use the registration information in GAOTD readme to enter key to unlock it to full version. It will not be the upgraded Deluxe version, but at least, you can re-install it after GAOTD deadline.

The setup for this program keeps triggering protective action by Nortons. It identifies a temporary file generated during setup as "high risk" showing "suspicious activity" and immediately deletes it, preventing program installation.

Febr.23 2007 Giveway AVS Audioeditor was given away.
The devolopers decided to protect their software not only with GOTD's wrapper but used Themida. Bubby commented then on this (look for it) and I suppose this is true for the warpper used by GOTD aswell:

Quote #96: Well I was interested in having a look at this program, until I saw the Themida error message. It’s clear AVS are more interested in stopping people who don’t want to purchase the software from using it (ie. Pirates) than making the software usable for people who would want to purchase the software (customers).

I guess the best option is to purchase someone elses product, or wait for someone to crack this and steal this one. Sounds like AVS have really thought this Themida thing through. :\

In addition to Comment #4 above, the $29.95 (50% off, ahem, upgrade) only comes with one year of upgrades and lifetime support and usage. If you want new versions after your one year is up, you pay 50% of the current price (only if the math is correct) and get another year's worth of upgrades.

Nice prog, easy to use interface. Has a great feature, if you want to learn a guitar solo or song words, in that you can slow the music down and still remain in pitch. You can also change the pitch if you want, to make karaoke soundtrack to suit yoiur voice range! Having trouble with text to speech though, I installed the MS speech engine (downloaded ver 11 directly from MS site) and also some language files but I get 'File Access error' when I try to convert. The help file says refer to website but can't find any info there. Using Vista x32.

@ #4, Ken, and also @ #2, Greg Baker

It's as well not to get too hung up on the provenance of today's GAOTD developer. Because it's not American, but Chinese.

Anyone who actually knows McHenry, lllinois, knows it ain't rendered as Mchenry and never has been nor will be. Just as anyone who knows Mobridge, South Dakota, will also know that there ain't no 6466NE Chestnut Road, by coincidence the home of sound editor software specialist Smart Media Systems -- which by yet further coincidence was established there in the same year as Smart AE Media Software began life in an Illinois city it can't even spell: 2000.

Of course, of course: the American software company SmartMediaSystems, creators of Power Audio Editor, and operating from an address which doesn't exist, are in no way connected with American software company Smart AE Media Software, responsible for publishing today's GAOTD from an address it can't even spell.

The fact that SmartMedia Systems has, since the year 2000, been committed to the creation of high quality, intuitive and powerful software: we value diligence, creativity and innovation and today's Mchenry (sic) Smart AE Media Software has, also since the year 2000, been committed to the creation of high quality, intuitive and powerful software: we value diligence, creativity and innovation is just, er, yet another coincidence.

So no, Greg Baker. This isn't an American company. And no, Ken, it hasn't taken 12 years to produce just one program. More than likely, the Chinese producer has spent many years setting up innumerable websites with different brands and different addresses so as to push out in to the marketplace a single core product with so many different names that perhaps even the developer itself has completely lost track of all its silly little fictions.

And yes: silly they are. Good software is good software, period. Whether it comes from China or the USA or anywhere else is irrelevant, so the sooner, the better that Chinese developers stop all this amateurishly-executed fantasizing.

What counts is whether the software works. Today's most likely does.

But I'm not trying it because I'm pretty sure I already have it on my computer, perhaps as Power Audio Editor from Smart Media Systems, or Free Audio Editor from another American company that is -- perhaps?? -- located in Fullerton, California, or even Audio Edit Magic, from that well-known American developer, Audio Edit Magic Soft Development Inc, which, you'll be amazed to learn, was coincidentally also founded in the year 2000 and, also by coincidence, operates from a building absolutely identical to that occupied by Smart Media Systems, except that Smart Media is on a non-existent street in Mowbridge, South Dakota, whereas Audio Edit Magic Soft Development is headquartered on a non-existent street in Scarborough, Maine, USA.

Reassuringly though, this American audio editing software developer is also committed to high quality, intuitive and powerful software: we value diligence, creativity and innovation and really, you can't say fairer than that. . . unless you're a Chinese developer, in which case, you'll say it dozens of times about dozens of different, though entirely fictitious, companies operating from dozens of similarly fictitious American addresses, all with the intention of saturating a particular market sector with your own, single, product.

On which note, there's actually one very good reason why so many computer users stick with Audacity: weirdly enough, it really does exist. . .

I'd appreciate some clarification as to what constitutes "commercial usage" of this software. Does it mean that ANY file created or modified by this software is prohibited from being used in a commercial environment? If so, how could such a prohibition possibly be enforced? How would you or anyone else be able to tell whether a recording was created or modified by this software, or any one of the many other similar freeware and commercially-available audio editors?

(I don't believe you could, unless there's information being encoded in those recordings that I'm not aware of.)

I'll give you a hypothetical scenario: A small business owner records a radio advertisement for their business using this software, as well as using the software to perform "post-production" work such as mixing in music and sound effects to produce a professional-sounding ad to be broadcast on local radio stations.

Question: Would this business person be violating the Terms and Conditions of this giveaway by using this software for that purpose?

If they aren't, would it be any more or less permissible for the software to be used by a third-party to accomplish the same (or similar) results, charging the business owner for their labor to produce the recording?

Developing proficiency with audio editing software such as this (as well as with video editing software - also frequently offered here) can equip you with a VERY marketable skill set, which could even enable you to "create your own job" doing such work for businesses that simply don't have the time, ability or resources to produce their own advertising audios and videos.

Of course this software will work just fine for creating "party mix" CDs with customized, narrated compilations for personal enjoyment as well. It's fun playing around with the various special effects to see how they change the output sound, and the text-to-voice feature is an additional bonus as far as I'm concerned - that's something that's not usually found included with an audio editor, usually only available as a stand-alone application.

As always, my thanks to the developer and to the GAOTD Team for once again providing us with another quality "freebie."

As ASBY (#1) says, this program is the same as Sound Editor Pro (offered here on June 24). It also is very similar to Sound Editor Deluxe (offered here last Jan 2, 2012).

Both SEP and SAE have a relatively small footprint (a dozen files installed into a single directory of your choice totaling approx 14 MB ea). They are also kind to your registry.

I didn't test Smart Audio Editor but the identical(?) Sound Editor Pro is a very feature rich, easy to use application and worth far more than the $30 asking price.

If you missed the Jun 24th offering jump on this.

As someone who records a lot of music using my computer I find many parts of this program useful. The text to speech tool is something I'm looking forward to using in the near future. I don't plan on replacing audacity anytime soon, but I will definitely be using this program along with audacity. If you record a lot and want to get a few new tools and capabilities try it, I think you'll find it useful. If you're new to recording, try Audacity it's free and very straight forward.

I hope this time my comment will arrive!

For cutting I'm only using sound editors which show above the actual working area graphics the whole file too (for better orientation and quick jumping to another part) and this software doesn't. And the working window is comparatively small because they are "burning" a lot of place for misplaced menu parts!

My favorite with a lot of effects is wavepad (wavpad) free variant from nch.com.
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/wpsetup.exe
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/wavepadmaci.zip
It's a demo of the full version and afterwards the free version.

And there is free audacity, preferably portable variant because it doesn't bloat your registry.

They make it sound like this is the only recorder/editor you will ever need. Good Ad copy on website.

I hope the program is Smarter than their Math skills.

Their website says we can upgrade to the DELUXE version with lifetime support and upgrades at 50% off the $49 price.... but at $29.95, that isn't 50% off. Are they smarter than a 5th grader?

SO, Is this offer the deluxe version with lifetime support and upgrades - NOT! - and - the program is FREE on their website ANYWAY.

Other than using GOTD as an outlet for advertising, I think they might want to rethink the offer presented here.

I'll try the software and see how it stacks up to the usual assortment of freeware in this category.

Head office is in Illinois ... founded in 2000 and 12 years later they have only ONE program to offer? Was this the effort of one person doing it on their spare time?

1. First mp3 I opened:
Access violation at address xxxxxxxx in module winmm.dll. Read of address xxxxxx.

Why? Chinese characters in the file/path name.

Recommendation:
- make it unicode compatible so it doesn't crash with non-Latin characters in file/path name.

2. Cassette noise reduction
No parameters apparent. Maybe there are some somewhere.
Created huge gaps (silence) in good Albinoni mp3.

Sorry, not this time.

This editor is exactly like "Sound Editor Pro" Version 7.5.1 which was offered here few weeks ago. The screenshots are identical and I assume the function is identical too so I am not going to try it. I like Sound Editor Pro's timer where you can choose the recording time. I think Audacity is easier to use but I like the timer on the Sound Editor Pro and this offer Smart Audio Editor.
