Bummer. Hoped it would carry me through the continued problems I have been having with my Canon Pixma MP-150 and the MP Navigator program having a lot of "scan failed" lately. But, to no avail.

This program looks promising but kept making the top left 3" x 4.5" the whole page no matter how i changed the page settings. No 'Help' section to aid in the settings either...

Maybe we'll see this one again in a year with these bumps ironed out...

Ok I installed and activated this all ok, I scanned a dvd cover and want to save it as a jpeg, which I selected, but the only save button or command I can find is the save all files as pdf button.
so can someone tell me how to save just as a jpeg.
the scan came out better than what I get with the epson software, I just need to know how to save it as different files.
I tried their site which confirms tif jpg etc. but no info on how to do it!

and their scan software is ok but limited.

Works fine with my HP, but it still brings up the HP software, so I don't really see the point. Even the HP splash screen opens up, and then you click the HP scan button to start it. This program is basically just integrating itself with HP's software. It doesn't do anything that the HP software couldn't do itself, and it uses the HP software to scan! The only difference is that the result preview image comes up in this program instead of the HP program.
VueScan is another scanner program I have, and it does not use the HP software at all. For that reason, I have to say it beats Scanitto hands down. I'll give it a plus because it works, but a minus because it doesn't work by itself, as far as I can tell. I mean, without the HP software installed, how would this program even work? Probably not at all.

Good Evening. I have an older Acer USB Scanner which works quite well on my Win XP Pro box. I do not however have any driver that will allow me to use the scanner on my Win7 box. I decided to give this package a try. While the package seems to have installed and registered properly, it does not see my scanner and will not allow me to scan anything.

Thanks for the offer GATD team, but this one has to go. I will however be checking a couple of the other packages mentioned above. Thanks to all for their feedback and suggestions.

Scanitto Pro does what it says... it's simple, "lite", easy to use, and priced well. For its purpose, it's an excellent program... one you'll want to shortcut on your desktop for quick'n'easy scan jobs.

It's -meant- to be simple, quick, and easy to use (it's not hard to figure out)... one of its best features is the ability to scan several pages and save them as one PDF file. This is -not- found under the File, Save... menu. As you scan pages, Scanitto Pro places them in a box on the right side of the program's window... once you have the pages that you want all scanned, you just click the 'Save to PDF' button at the top right corner. You do need to scan them in the correct order of pages in the PDF.

Scanitto Pro is quick, simple to use... you don't have to wait long for it to start up, you don't have tens of megabytes or more of software to bloat your system or hard drive... such as the trialware that often comes with scanners.

As long as it 'finds' your scanner... this is an excellent scanning software for quick, simple jobs. I think all the putdown reviews here are jaded and unrealistic. This program is 'simpleware'... simplicity is its purpose. I'd rate it five stars in all categories for its simpleware purpose. Sure you can ask for more features and to have it all for free... however, this is a great, simple, useful program at a reasonable price. A good desktop tool when you don't want/need to start up a larger, complex scanning program.

PROs:
+ Installed and activated no problem on Win XP SP3, with CanoScan-640P-ex.
CONs:
- Preview feature does standard slow scan, instead of low resolution fast preview scan
- Bad interaction with Canon scanner software
I agree with Ashraf - 'Does not have any features/value that would make this a program worthwhile over program that comes with scanners.'
I certainly would NOT buy this software.

Seems a decent enough front end for low-level TWAIN drivers -- but where it says, "Scanitto Pro... [adds] lots of handy capabilities that will make your daily work even more hassle-free and efficient" I really don't see it. It captures scans, and saves them, and that seems to be about it. There's definitely no contrast adjustment, something I think is a fairly basic need for scanner software, but if you save as an image format then you can use image software to adjust the results.

There's also no means to refresh the program if you load it before your scanner's powered up. You have to quit and restart the program. This seems like a beginner's mistake in programming, but it's probably not all that uncommon.

Finally, be aware also that the uninstaller won't ask you before loading a web page -- that's just plain rude and can be a security issue. Thanks for making it available, Masters ITC, but no thanks.

Even if I copy the DLL from a PC with Vista, it does not work.
Are you sure WIndows XP is supported?

Having troubles. Downloaded the program and saved to desktop. Then ran setup. Then ran activate. Seemed to do everything well. When i go to scan a picture i get the message that "a necessary file is missing or corrupt." I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times. I'm using Vista x64 Home Premium and have an HP OfficeJet 8500 printer, if that makes a difference.

Quick to install, clear preview image, the program says it is scanning...but nothing shows up in the folder(s) to which I've asked the scan be saved. Am I missing something obvious? I'd really like this to work.

This company gave us "Blindscanner Pro" some time back. This streamlined scanning program installed and activated quickly on Win XP SP3. I love that I am able to choose to use the ADF on my scanner or not! Did a preview quickly. Did a scan and that is when the PDF button darkened on the top right corner allowing me to save the scanned image to PDF. I love this software! It is so easy to learn, and does exactly what I need. My Brother scanner/copier/fax has confusing software that includes all options for all functions when I just want to scan. This software is a keeper and I will definitely use it regularly to scan things to PDF! Thanks!

Could someone please explain how to get this software to find and operate a scanner on a remote computer? I don't see any way to point to the remote scanner.

I'm using Win7 64 and the scanner is connected to a WinXP SP3 computer.

Also, my scanner is somewhat old and the software that came with it will not run under Win7. Am I already defeated?

Thanks, and thanks to GAOTD.

I've been using Irfanview's scanning capabilities to scan for quite a while now. (File/Select Twain Source/-/then use Acquire-batch scanning) I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned it as an alternative free program. Makes me wonder how many don't know about it. so...

Never a problem with output. I can preview, set the portion of window I want to scan, set DPI, and work with the results (resize/recolor etc.) all in the one free program. Irfanview is so great I was compelled to send them a donation even though it is not required to get the full package.

Only problem I've got with Irfanview is I have to use it sitting at my wife's computer because the printer is hooked directly to it and my computer is networked to hers. My computer won't recognize her 'twain source'.

On second thought, I tried the software on my HP scanjet3570c. It tried to call up the software that won't work with Vista and failed. It's useless if the original software won't work. It looks more like a front end to whatever software/drivers are already installed and working. Skip this one.

Does not look as good as CanoScan Toolbox (which can create searchable PDF's as well as "copy").

To Rich above: you might want to try a Canon driver for another similar model, or look on one of Canon's worldwide sites for a x64 driver for your model Canon scanner.

The ability to scan on a network printer/scanner is the main attraction here. We have a nice Canon multi-function printer/scanner/copier. It's connected to the nearest computer. We have a home network for our 3 computers to share files and a printer, and that works fine. But, the scan function is only available on the computer that's directly connected to the printer. YOU CAN'T SCAN FROM THE OTHER COMPUTERS ON YOUR HOME NETWORK. This Scannito software overcomes that problem!
Other advantages: being able to save a scanned item as a .PDF file, and being able to save a scanned photo as a .PNG file (high quality without the losses of .JPG files!).

Fast Installation, small footprint, loads fast. Instantly found my scanner. ( HP psc 2110 ) Running WinXP pro SP3.

The rename file is strange. I am using tiff images.
When you use Windows Explorer to rename it changes to "tiff image" and is no longer usable in the Scanitto preview window.
When you use Scanitto to rename a file it is listed as "file" and not recognizable in Windows Explorer.

I agree with all of those who said this is much faster, and far less invasive than HP commercial, bloat ware. I'll never buy an HP again because of all the commercial product ware it installed, and won't allow me to uninstall unless I uninstall the whole HP suite. Today's software is a fraction of the size, runs quickly, and doesn't bog the user down with software aimed at selling other products to you. Great offering.

Downloaded and activated with no problems on Win7. Very easy to use interface. Separates multiple pages into individual files. Doesn't appear to be able to auto-crop multiple pictures.

Although my scanner came with an application which did everything that Scanitto Pro does, it was not compatible with Win7 and no update was available on the manufacturers web site - that makes this a very useful application to have. Thanks to GOTD and Masters ITC.

Is there any chance of getting VueScan as a GOTD? I'd like to be able to use my old Canon FB630U with Vista x64, but there are no drivers available. I have tried their trial version and it works fine, albeit with "watermarks" over the scan. I don't use the scanner enough to justify the cost of either the software or a new scanner.

This software is only the front-end (user interface), it still requires scanner manufacturer's driver installed.
The HP disc comes with drivers and software for many scanners, but will install (extract) only the driver for attached model.
Today's giveaway his similar functions to Windows (XP) scanner and camera wizard and a utility called iCopy. However with both these my particular HP multifunction has a bug prohibiting Preview mode. With Scanitto the Preview works, so for me it is a useful addition.
I also like the way Scanitto displays the scanning options.

Agree that this software is rather useless. I have an old but reliable Mustek 1200UB scanner that came with Win 98/2000 drivers which Mustek later updated for Win XP but alas not for Vista. My new laptop runs on Vista so I searched around and found a Vista driver for it via Google, which is what one really needs! The built-in scanner toolbox in Windows Vista is similar to the original Mustek twain toolbox. Scanitto Pro does nothing more here. Perhaps if Scanitto Pro had a built-in driver library for Vista or Win7 or bundled OCR software it might serve a purpose but it doesnt. Thumbs down from me. Absolutely no reason to install it and perhaps comprimise your existing system.

Further to my comment (#12), when you save as .PDF, it saves all of the scanned images as one .pdf. to save individual scans, you have to DELETE (wording should probably be REMOVE, since it doesn't delete the scan which is automatically saved) the ones you don't want to include. Also by default, it saves the .PDFs in the User\(My)documents folder, not the same one as you specify for scans!

Although the software, (which loads extremely quickly), automatically recognzed my Network (not shared) Brother MFC 420CN, it times out with various amounts of data captured. (I will send screenshots to the developer)

It would be nice if it had some sort of annotation capability.

Hi,

From developer:
>As its somewhat Italian name suggests, this scanning software is lightweightMost bundled applications that come along with new scanners are supplied as trial versions, while their full versions are quite on the expensive side and are full of advanced features you will most probably never need.you can easily turn your hefty hand-written manuscript into a digital form<
… OCR capability? As if you could scan a document directly into Word?

The developer provides no extensive list of functions, no “how to” pages about any of the programs features, the FAQ section is empty (for the Pro version and contains only two very short entries in the “normal” edition which may or may not be of any use to Pro-users)… and two screenshots should do the job. The program must indeed be very, very light, perhaps even so light that it would not cover all my “everyday” needs.

I’ve been searching for reviews other than Ashraf’s (not that I don’t trust you, Ashraf, pure curiosity on my part to see if other reviewers would have something original to say) and only found word for word copies of the developers description. As usual, you've been doing a nice job, Ashraf.

Conclusion:
All this makes it a “I’ll pass on this one” for me.

Have a nice day!
Patrick.

One merit of this Giveaway is its support of jpeg2000, pdf and png out of the box, which not every scanner software supports.

The obvious choices for (professional)scanner software are Vuescan at www.hamrick.com and Silverfast at www.Silverfast.com.

Vuescan works for every scanner (Windows, Mac and Linux OS), adds tons of features, and costs only $15.- more than this program.

Silverfast is available for most high-end scanners and is a graphic professional's dreams come true.
