You must have a scanner or camera physically connected for this software to work. It does not allow you to choose saved images from a folder on your pc or on a camera card. What a nuisance!!!! This must rank as one of the most user-unfriendly pieces of software seen in a while. Uninstalled immediately.

Not sure about the software yet, but one of the most impressive Eula screens ever. An option to print, and the ability to enter the product key before you install.

Guess I will stay with my trusty Epson scanner software which came bundled with the hardware purchase. I can scan to Jpeg or PDF or Multi-TIFF or TIFF or BMP.
No OCR though. But OCR is easily (+ better) handled by ABBYY Fine Reader which I have.
Encryption? Filewarden or Kryptel. Encryption of scanned PDF is rarely needed by me.
Send to Dropbox? Easily done drag + drop
Send by email? Gmail or Outlook.

One question for those who tried out this software:
Does it require you to first specify a paper size for PDF say for example A4.
Then it scans the document (e.g. a small 2 inch x 2 inch card) and places it inside an A4 size PDF scanned file; regardless of the size of the source document.
Does this happen?

Is the software intelligent enough to auto-size the resulting PDF scan to adjust according to the dimensions of your scanned document?

Scan2Encrypt will automatically resize PDF paper size to the document/image you scanned or crop from scan. If you use feeder, you can setup paper size and Scan2Enrypt will use it.

Scan2Encrypt will still call your trusted driver to connect to your scanner. So process of scanning will be identical since you will be still using your original software, but instead of using other xxx utilities you can do all in Scan2Ecnrypt. Main benefit is in saving your time.

Downloaded and registered fine. I had to locate the software from the folder in which it was saved (Watch that) before running. Pleased to see that inserting the licence key during install, worked. (Much better way of doing things). Running W7 Ultimate with my trusty Canon MP760, failed with this offering so obviously mine is one of the Twain devices that are not compatible.

It would be a lot more sensible IMO, that if the software cannot be written to be more printmake/model friendly, that a list of offending hardware could be placed on the site to check before installing (or purchasing).

Could've been useful for me but not so.
Thanks GAOTD and BinaryNow

Scanner driver with TWAIN 1.8 or higher is required for Scan2Encrypt to connect to scanner. You can try top contact Cannon support and ask for driver, depending on your operating system they may have updated version.

To the BinaryNow devs FWIW...
All-in-one printers are extremely popular in the US [only the very cheapest printers on sale just print], but if you're not using an AIO flatbed scanner, cell phone cameras make sense.

Stats say cell phone cameras are used much more often than regular cameras, especially with documents. Users are already snapping pics of stuff like scan codes, receipts for customer loyalty programs, checks for deposit etc. Automatically uploading those pics to the cloud is a common feature. So called scanning apps are also popular -- they adjust for perspective error, since it's hard [if possible] to hold your cell perfectly parallel & aligned with any doc.

When using a cell, what I think would make good, practical sense then would be to drag & drop [or otherwise open] those PDF or image files directly from the cloud, where those cell phone apps uploaded them, saving the OCRed results to the same place, perhaps in a different folder.

When using a flat bed scanner I'd think the most needed feature would be to work with the ADF [Automatic Document Feeder] present on many [most?] AIO printers, &/or to batch process a folder full of image files from scanned docs.

Thank you for a suggestion about cloud storage access, we will investigate it for a future version. Feeders are already supported in a current version, so you can batch process multiple pages into one PDF.

I tried it on my XP system. It installed OK but when I tried to scan a shop receipt, the software hung with a "scanning..." dialog sitting there forever.
Most software works on my system, although it has a lot of baggage from over the years. I have installed so many GOTD's that I have 5 columns of entries on my start menu and new entries are off my screen!
I will remove it. I'm a little disappointed because it would have been handy to be able to quickly scan the odd receipt to searchable PDF.

Scan2Encrypt will work with any scanner (TWAIN 1.8 or higher ) or Webcam. It it hung on scanning the issue is with your scanner software. It may not be TWAIN compatible. You can contact us at support@binarynow.com with more questions.

These modern ways make me feel like a dinosaur. Back in my day as a computer programmer (as it was then called) such behaviour from my program (as it was then called) would have been called a bug. In the old days the computer would print (popup) an error message saying the driver was incompatible and then exit. These days I merely close the "app" with taskmanager, logon to an Internet forum, post the problem, and minutes later read the explanation posted live by a company employee. I guess that's progress for you!

I don't know anyone that uses Dropbox, and I certainly won't. No thanks.

Dropbox is just one of the options. You can of course save PDF file to your computer or also send them by email. Dropbox is not required for Scan2Encrypt.

Installed and registered on a WIn 8.1.3 Proi 64 bit system. Heavy impact on the registry.

An US "online software store" with address&phone:
"Founded in 2009, BinaryNow is a multi-vendor online software store that contains essential software tools for everyday use. "

Upon start a simple blue resizable interface opens. In the settings you define the scanner, scanner quality and PDF opftion : OCR.
The scanner type and the cammera does not give confidence.

This software uses as OCR the free open source tesseract.

I selected a picture made with a camera:

The resulted PDF with OCR was unusable, but better than expected:

You see the difference? Tesseract is surely the best freeware - but it cannot compete in no way with a commercial product. On very simple and perfect scans it can produce sometimes good results.

Uninstalled via reboot.

Addition:

I did not test the encryption. If the OCR fails, the encryption of the NOT searchable PDF file is useless:
" Final PDF document will be searchable and encrypted using the latest 256 AES encryption."

OCR worked acceptable for me. It might be that you use german text and they don't offer other language packs but english.
Webcam - good idea indeed but I had problem adjust paper in front of webcam. would need rotate feature though or use external webcam.

Dropbox integration is a feature I appreciate the most.

Current OCR engine works properly only in English. German and other languages will be supported in later releases.

I am going to suggest a different approach here. Microsoft OneNote has one of the best OCR engine. You can scan your documents using scanner application and send it to Onenote using their printer driver. It not only scans the documents for text but also have a great search capabilities.

And best of all is that its totally free and available on every device you can think of!
