It probably could use a few tweaks but worked fine for me in Windows 8 / 64 bit.

Dear GOTD users,

We contacted the vendor regarding the activation problem some of you had and here is the answer:

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. This casually happens among our orders on our website too, but the license code is definitely valid on our computers. Since you can see that with the same license code, only part of users said it was invalid. Many other users could register the program without problem.

Contact us if you have this problem: support@pearlmountainsoft.com. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this."

Best regards,

No problems downloading, installing or even registering that number (only 1 cut & paste! yay!) on WinVista 64bit, and I appreciated the on-line tutorials.

They need to recheck their site map because the [TUTORIALS] tab -
http://www.pearlmountainsoft.com/picture-collage-maker/
only leads to 1 tut, while another page (I didn't save and can't retrace and relocate, sorry) had a list of about 5 tutorials but the starting tutorial link there was inactive)
In case someone wants to see some of the other tuts:
http://www.pearlmountainsoft.com/picture-collage-maker/tutorial.html

http://www.picturecollagesoftware.com/how-to-make-photo-book.html

FYI for those who wonder about scrapbooking and those who spew aspersions and insult the many people who love the hobby, there is a huge world of ADULTS participating in this craft and MANY are moms and grandmoms who will likely find this a excellent tool to introduce their kids and grandkids to the hobby. A much safer, healthier and creative past-time than facebook or twitter texting. You might want to visit this site, just one of many popular digital scrapbook sites:
http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/ where generous people exchange ideas and even free templates:
http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/place/freebies.shtml

I mostly do Photoshop, but this software offers another focused tool with a surprising level of editing power and quite a lot of very nice and useful templates (tsk tsk Ashraf!) though I don't understand how they can call it "Pro" if we aren't given a way to import our own templates without it violating their TOS. Still looking into that claim.

Maybe #19's hubby sent her here because he knew her narcissistic ego would have fun berating what turns out to be a pretty nifty little program. Pity her husband if she critiques his wardrobe, hobbies or bedroom prowess in such a polite way.

Wow. Downloaded quickly, installed flawlessly. I do collage in the "real" paper'n'glue world but have never opened Photoshop in my life (and never wanted to), so I'm probably a good test of whether or not this program is user friendly. It is. I spent a couple of hours I didn't have this afternoon playing with it, and fell in love with it.

Note to #19: well, you certainly are special, now, aren't you. You're obviously annoyed that your husband has insulted your artistic abilities by pointing this "amateur" program out to you, but please don't come here & take it out on the rest of us. I'd have been interested in your knowledgeable opinion of the program's usefulness to someone who is NOT an expert in photo-manipulation (& has no interest in becoming one); too bad you felt it necessary to trash it for no reason I can see other than petulance & bad manners.

I downloaded and installed this because Ashraf (#1) said it makes calendars. There are not any templates for calendars but I can get templates for 2012 calendars on their website. Big whoop!

#21 click create blank collage, then click cancel, a page will popup that lets you enter the registration code. I have not yet tried the program but the download/install and registration (although the registration was tricky at first) worked for me, looks like a keeper even if some of the templates are not that visually stunning, a way to create your own templates to add to it would be a great option.

Update on the install: Todays GAOTD seems to be working fine, but since I already had a previous version(v3.3.7), I installed new version under slightly different folder names than the default to see if the previous version would still work. It loads but it is now a "15 day trial" version. So my guess is that when you install the new version offered today, it changes registry entry to the new license code and the previous older version doesn't recognize it. Not really a problem for me since the new version is working.
AND I save the templates and other files of previous version so I could use with the new version as suggested by several other commenters.

I also have an older version of the 'Standard version'(not PRO) of PCMaker installed and it still loads as a registered full version (3.3.9). SO obviously the new install did not change this versions registry. I will see if templates and graphics from this older version work with the new Pro version and report back later.

Great program! Installed and registered without problems, Windows 7 Home Premium, i7, 64 bit. The program is solid and worked without glitches. The GUI is well laid out making the program fairly intuitive and easy to use. I downloaded some of the extras and there's more than enough to use for a while ...but the absolutely coolest thing about this program is that the content can be accessed via Windows Explorer in Program Files(x86)and more content can be made with any decent photo editor, labeled and added to the program's folders. I made a couple of Christmas backgrounds (1200x900 px, 300 dpi, jpg), labeled them in series with the other Christmas backgrounds, added them to the program's Background>Stretch folder and they worked just fine. I love programs I can add my own personal touches to and this is a real winner that way. Thank you! Thank you!

@21 AnAceBuyer
When you first launch the program you should have gotten a popup window showing you had a '15 day trial version'. At the bottom of that window there is a 'register' button to click and enter the license code. Just copy and paste the license code form README file into the space. You may have to use "Control+C" to do the copy and "Control+V" to paste. I had trouble with the mouse 'copy' function. Hope this helps

Installed easily on my
Windows 7 laptop and my Windows 8 desktop. It is a great program and the fact you can save your layout as a template negates all the talk about ugly templates. It has endless possibilities and is definitely a keeper.

1-Installed without a problem on Win7 Home Prem. - Have used previous version of this program and found it useful, but agree with the comments about some templates being less than atttractive.

2-There is something usual going on today with the 'comment section' -- most of the above "comments" have been given a negative score? Seems odd and unusual ?

Who even knew they gave awards for "digital scrapbooking"?!! Gosh, and expert in PS Ms #19 is! I'm starting to faint :-) Wonder why she didn't include a website so we might all see her "award-winning" work????

My comment is: who really does such graphic collage stuff, that they would need a program for it, above the many for free? I mention that for the software's creators, and not for the many "5-year olds" here who'll be playing with it. After playtime, though...what's a collage gonna do for ya? A slide show is much more entertaining, and as easy to credit. Wonder why she didn't include a website so we might all see her "award-winning" work????

If anyone sends me a collage, its a sure sign they are too-old to know better. Or, as #19 suggested, to young to be wasting time on a computer, when they should be out learning to do something...REAL.

It seems the folks that have modded the software by pulling templates out of the old and pushed them into this GOTD from Pearl Mountain have run afoul of the agreement in this very standard EULA.
i.e.
Whether you are licensing the Software as an individual or on behalf of an entity, you may not: (i) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software or attempt to discover the source code; (ii) modify, or create derivative works based upon, the Software in whole or in part without the express written consent of PEARL MOUNTAIN SOFTWARE; (iii) remove any proprietary notices or labels on the Software; (iv) resell, lease, rent, or sublicense your rights to the Software.
~
The software's source must be getting hammered because this 111 MB download took 6 and a half minutes on high speed Fios. Pearl Mountain homepage took noticeable time to display the sample pics. Wonder why.

~Good, Pearl has a video tutorial to get one started that pops up at installation. CUDOS! Nothing worse than taking half a day to figure out if the software is worth the bother.

~Registration happens at the 2nd click on the software. The numbers pasted in worked quickly to authorize a fully working copy. That's a blessing, I've seen registration take hours using email. (The initial action will still have the Evaluation Copy warning on it. Just close and re-open the software to have it fully register.)

~Standard Windows keyboard control functions such as CTRL-X (instead of the software's Shift-Delete)seem to be working at the same time. That's nice.

~I was able to use the DOWNLOAD MORE TEMPLATES button right off the bat and pulled in more then 2 dozen extra choice of type of templates at no cost.

~AHA, the UPGRADE feature that has to be turned off by GAODers is not on this product. The software drop choice says GET UPGRADE. So, no automatic loss of the program when it looks and finds the next version fix.

~Overall, this is much quicker than my CS2 Photoshop. There are still a few basic bells and whistles I have to learn, but hey, if there were none, then this would be too simple to keep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks - it's a nice program. It would sell to the average graphics user. Forty bucks will make the buyer >seriously< consider OTHER software at the store, because they all look like great software until you install them. As this is PRO version, it would be cheesy to say ask $24 and then add online costs when the user wishes to install new backgrounds, for instance.

On the subject of Ashraf's reviews:

Pros
- repeats the exact same claims the software vendor does, for those people that are slow and believe this is some kind of illuminating revelation
- tries to hijack site traffic to his own site for personal gain
- adds comments to the GOTD comment section pretending to be from other people saying how good he is
- quite often doesn't bother to even evaluate the day's offerings, instead saying he didn't have time or based it on a different offering (how useless can you get)

Cons
- yes, this type of review is very much a con

Final Verdict -

No need to click anywhere: useless self-patronising waste of space.

I have no idea why my husband sent me here for this. I am a PhotoShop expert user. I looked this over and could only recommend it for a 5 year old beginning computer user. I have won awards for digital scrapbooking and I do some very artistic things with high resolution snapshots to turn them into beautiful portraits. This collage maker should be limited to children's use. Grownups can do better.

Installed without a hitch, it did however take a lot of time to download.

This program is a keeper for my Photo Editing Arsenal.

I would however liked to have seen an updated Calendar download for 2014.

The support on their website is very helpful but will definitely take much time to view it all.

Thanks for a keeper.

This is a keeper. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose because I found all the templates pleasing though I can understand why some would not appeal to everyone. Aesthetics aside, this program makes collages easy to fashion, and ever since Microsoft canned Picture It Plus years ago, I've never found another that was as easy or that I liked all that well. Not the case here. Very intuitive, and the freebie is just in time for Christmas newsletters.

You can minimize download time by finding and using a download accelerator. I use Download Accelerator Plus and the program downloaded via cable in a few seconds.

The only other comment I'd make is that unless you plan to use it every day, during installation consider unchecking the box that adds the program to the start menu and instead start it manually from a desktop icon or All Programs menu when you do use it.

On occasion I've gotten weird alerts from security software when I've tried some GOTD offerings, even after having purchased an upgraded version of one; probably false positives, but nevertheless annoying. So long as that doesn't happen here, it's all good.

I was going to give this a miss until I read Ashraf’s comment, but after reading it thought I'd give it a try.
Even though it's extremely easy-to-use it is also extremely powerful.
Gave it a try creating a Christmas card and when I thought I'd finished and would be unable to make any alterations found it was possible not just to edit my additions but also the original template.
The card consisted of two frames each containing a photograph; on my supposedly finished article I found I could remove one of the frames and move and resize the remaining one.
An exceptionally well developed program and well worth the download for anyone interested in this type of work.

This has got to be one of my favorite programs.

With the mask library I have this tool a real joy to have.

Yes some of the templates are not what we usualy look for but this ain't the most complicated software to use and for ideas just look up any scrapbooking site and as for extra clipart there are tons of open sources available for your projects.

There are 19 Template packs available on PearlMountain just mix and match.

Thanks to GOTD and PearlMountain for today's promo.

Hmmmm. Let's see. Over 160 votes, only 7 comments before I got here. Perhaps giveawayoftheday.com should only allow one to vote if they have filled out the comment web form first? Just sayin'!

I have no need for this software but to me, I shouldn't vote it down just for that reason.

Maybe have two DIFFERENT things to vote on.

1.) Is this something I want or need?
2.) (after filling out a comment form) Does this software meet my expectations?

I had the 3.3.7 version of this software and after installing it; I did what #4 above "Adif" did. I discovered in the program file area that this version did not have a lot of the backgrounds, clipart, frames, etc as the old version did; I was able to drag and drop files from old version folder into the pro version folders and everything seems ok; I also copied files to save elsewhere and then I uninstalled the older version. I enjoyed using the old version and I look forward to using this newer version. Thank you GAOD and Pearl Mountain.

I agree with Ashraf a lot of the templates here really ugly.
Last year we had as GOTD the non PRO version 3.3 , I don't know what's the differences are so I run directories compare and found some files with different sizes and some are missing. I copied few directories from the old 3.3 to this pro 4.0 and it looks as it work O.K. and adds more options.
