According to the website, Partition Aligning feature is available across all Paragon’s Flagship products which means, if you are a GAOTD regular and has downloaded Paragon’s previous give aways, there is a high chance that you might already be having the ability to re-align the partitions! May be you can check the installed Paragon software for the feature before downloading. Just my 2 cents!
Call me stupid, but what means to align partitions? (A short explanation should have been provided in the program’s description.)
Hmm, the description states:
“•All our flagship products include this utility by default”
and yet the previous paragon product, Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 Personal SE did not properly align the partitions when I recovered the backed up partitions from an old 250G low capacity 2.5″ WD drive to a new high capacity “Advanced Format” 640G 2.5″ WD Drive, requiring that both partitions had to be re-aligned as a seperate and lengthy resize and move operation. Now I know what an aligned partition is for these WD drives I should be able to create the partions manually in the future and have the recovery tool recover into the existing partition, but it was a large waste of time and data risk to have to re-align newly created partitions, when it should have been done by default by the Paragon recovery product when the partitions were first created and the data was restored. Note initially I tried to perform the re-alignment using the WD specific Paragon Alignment Tool and it apeared to hang with nom progress indication during the partition integrity check phase during the boot-up re-align tool operation and because it looked like it was in a read only phase and I had selected the option to protect against power outages, I thought it would be OK to force an exit but it trashed the entire partition, needing me to re-recover the partition and fix it all again… I ended up using the Acronis based WD align tool in boot mode which was successful.
If I remember correctly, for these WD drives partitions needed to start on a 2048x512byte sector boundry to properly align the data and that boundry is based on data returned from some extended fields in the ATA identify command, so may vary from drive type and manufacturer. Also means that certain older partion managment tools will complain as thse “aligned” partions do not normally start on CHS cylinder boundries that they are programmed to default to.
