I missed out on this opportunity for download, just introduced to the site today on the 10th, for others that missed it there's a permanently free program out there called paint.net that you can get at getpaint.net and it's also great for beginners. I've been using this program for years, but I do hope I get a chance to try a full version of NeoPaint sometime soon.

you have to run set up, open program, run activate, close program, reopen and the trial window will not be there on second opening. I have it on my PC now with xp and on my 64-bit win 7 laptop. no layers, so my creations will continue with PaintDotNet software; but will enjoy exploring the effects of this program, may add new touches for me.

Hey ---> Great Product! Intuitive, easy to use, just what I have always wanted. After a little more use I will be buying this one. AND, the install was a breeze. All GAOTD installs should work like this one!

@Cristiano

NeoSoft's NeoBook (and NeoPaint) has continually been under development -- each version with marked improvements -- ever since it's first version. Why try so hard to be wrong? Don't make slanderous comments while you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Horrible program, thats why they did not post any screenshots

Interface seems the program as developed for windows 98...

Effects and brushes are of the same quality and look by almost all free painting programs and even paint it self

There are a lot of programs out there that do the same same thing and even more, freeware and opensource stuff...

If I would be willing to pay for a program, it should be good and not just a crappy-free stuff that no body would ever pay that suggested price.

The other program they sell "neobook", looking it layout, it also seems that they stopped developing it more than 10y ago, looking for the look of the program

Horrible...

I saw this one nearly 24 hours ago, but decided to wait for some reviews before deciding to download. I then forgot all about it til a friend of mine at DPR's site asked me about this one (a few hours ago). I looked at the reviews and for the most part they were all positive, so decided that's good enough for me. The main feature that I like is the wrap around stamp feature (which will make creating seamless textures child's play). Just want to thank NeoSoft and GAOTD for sharing this gem with us all. :)

@mike#43 - Thanks from me too for more in-depth thoughts and history of NeoPaint, always appreciated! I didn't know this Program (somehow:), personally grew up (in computer terms) with Corel4, Photoshop5 and through all their evolutions. It doesn't matter that we now have and use highly sophisticated graphic Programs (I too always had GIMP, but never could master it's rather complicated "floating" windows etc, so thanks for "portability" option:) - NeoPaint is a nice REMINDER where we all came from..!!
Thanks GAOTD for todays Offer, since lady Nostalgia is my middle name - I took it today quite swiftly to my large (only kidding:) appreciative bosom.

@Ned, #60: Try unzipping to a new folder (subdirectory) for each program. That way you can find all the files that were extracted.

You can also read the readme file if you open the zip file and browse the contents.

There is ALWAYS a Readme file in the GOTD download.

I had a bunch of popups from Online Armor with this install. it blocked the install to begin with. I "allowed it" thinking it would stop these popup warnings. Nope Lots more. I've downloaded several programs from this site and never had this happen before. Unfortunately, I don't know if "Activate.exe is trying to execute a program that could compromise your system" is ACTUALLY a threat or not, or the message that it wanted to access the HD and so forth. I don't know if this is to be expected or not, even if it is peculiar, I went ahead with it since I trust GOTD. Anyone else have this problem? Gonna run my AV and malware progs to check anyway.

(NOT a tekkie here.)
What Little I've seen was kinda cool.

Installed OK and registered OK in XP for me. Not clear why so many people are having trouble activating past the 30 day trial. Overall the software isn't that impressive though, don't expect to use it beyond 30 days and will certainly not be installing on my laptop. Don't know how they could actually be selling copies. I just hope that whatever confusion is going on doesn't cause it to be offered again in the next few days at the cost of a more useful alternative. Didn't see any signs of "software informer" but if it is there my firewall will catch it.

Pretty good for free but if you're going to pay $45 you should spend a few bucks more and spring for Photoshop Elements 9. It is much more powerful and has many features (such as layers)found in only much more expensive applications.

However, there are some readme.txt files in my computer but they belong to other programs, downloaded from other sources.

@Ariana #48: “Software Informer” is offered by Giveaway of the Day every time you successfully activate one of their programs. It has nothing to do with today's offer. I've never installed it, but I doubt that it's "a nasty little program".

@TERI butler #49 (and others having registration troubles): Follow the instructions in the Readme. Run the activate program, then start NeoPaint. To check registration, click Help -> About NeoPaint. You should see that it's licensed to Giveawayoftheday.

Neopaint was very disappointing. First: it is not free at all. Use for 30 days only. Second: After I created a picture the program would not close. I had to use the windows task manager and end task.

In the process of uninstalling there was a list of shared files that it was using from my other programs. When I deleted these files now two other programs won't work properly. I recommend Inpaint3. It is really free with not deceptions or ploys.

#43, mike, Paint.NET has plugins, nothing like Photoshop or GIMP, but it has a plugin which accepts Photoshop plugins; it can even use both 32- and 64-bit Photoshop plugins on a 64-bit OS. Of course, since you have Photoshop and hate .NET, you'll never know.

This is a great program, like a much more advanced version of Microsoft's Paint program. I'm particularly impressed with the screen capture options. I haven't come across any graphics program that offers the option to make a screen capture, and I can see plenty of good uses for this.

I made three screen captures and then had a program error when I tried to exit NeoPaint. The error message was: "Exception EOutOfResources in module NeoPaint.exe at 00016058. Error creating window.". I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3 on a Pentium D with 1GB RAM. Not sure if this is a problem the developer is aware of.

Earlier, checking the NeoPaint forum the latest entry was about their no longer developed, but still apparently available DOS version -- for the most part it doesn't seem to me to have changed all that much as DOS gave way to win 3.1, leading to 95, then 98 & so on. Paint was more usable [before it became part of Windows], then in the 3.1 days came Aldus PhotoStyler competing with Photoshop. Windows 95 changed everything -- Micrografx had the 1st major graphics/image editing package designed for win95, & to be honest I never heard of NeoPaint again as graphics apps seemed to be sprouting right & left. This morning in fact I was surprised to see NeoPaint still alive & kicking, still doing things its own way after all these years -- IMHO the more you're used to other image editors the more you'll dislike [hate?] the GUI, though it is none-the-less usable, & some may even like it better than more current designs. For the good, NeoPaint does have a working History window, where you can jump back 1 or more undo steps with a single click. For the bad today's GOTD doesn't have any support for Floating Objects &/or Layers [severely limiting more serious work], & it lacks any of the auto adjustments that make many image editors fast & easy for more casual users. Nor does it have any of the cataloging features built-in or included with so many image apps nowadays.

In the past Windows didn't have built-in support for a lot of image file formats -- an image editor or graphics app would include filters to handle these formats, sometimes like NeoPaint installing them to Windows' system folder... NeoPaint's Setup.exe includes/installs 25 of these files, all dated 12/1/98, that contribute to the 670 new registry entries recorded. The program's folder itself holds 134 files, 12 folders, & takes up ~6 MB.

NeoPaint was originally designed to work on much lower powered hardware running older versions of Windows [& DOS], & that's an advantage for anyone running those older systems today. I've really tried, & personally I can't see any other advantages to using NeoPaint unless you happen to really like the GUI design. I grew frustrated when I first opened an image since it wasn't automatically sized to fit the program's window, I couldn't find a button on the toolbar for auto-fit, & I couldn't find a magnifier tool I could right/left click to reduce/enlarge the image's display -- for me it was pretty much downhill from there, but as I'm used to working in several other image editors already, your mileage may vary.

If you were going to buy image editing software I got an email this AM from Corel -- the *Much* more capable PaintShop Photo Pro X3 is on sale for $30 [I picked it up for $13 a while back from Dell]... I also got an offer from Ashampoo advertising their Photo Commander 9 for $20 -- a week or so ago every app was just $10 -- & it too does an awful lot. For free apps the GIMP is always mentioned, but as-is it's a bit difficult & I've had problems in the past running this originally *nix software in Windows -- I use the portableapps.com version on my hard drive, including plugins [on the same download page] that make it look/act more like PhotoShop. They have a few other graphics apps that look interesting on the portableapps.com site, but I've not used them to the point where I could rate any good or bad.

What a nice reunion :)
This good old programme got lost somewhere on the long way to Win7 and with several computers in that time.
Who cares about an old-fashioned look - as long as the heart, the functionality is still strong.
Good to have it back in the toolbox.

Thanks to GOTD and NeoSoftware for this fine tool!

Easy to install, but I have to say that to pay $45 for this very basic level of programme is laughable when there is such amazing software on the net as Paint.Net and Gimp for free. I'm sorry, but this is really junior and clunky...

Thank you anyway for the opportunity to use and evaluate it. I appreciate it.

Although this is not one of the more sophisticated programs that I have, it seems to be EXTREMELY easy to master and use, and it does exactly what it claims with no real fuss or bother, which is not something I can say about some of the photoediting programs. I have to say that for quick touchups, I think this may become one of my favorites. I think sometimes we feel that we must fiddle with our pics more than necessary simply because the options to do so exist in the very expensive software that we use so much.I mean, why pay for all the bells and whistles if we're not going to use them, right? Sadly, you can easily end up with a mess while trying to use features that you really don't need, or at least I do.With this I can pull up a pic and do a quick touch up and not feel that I am underutilizing my program, and I like that a great deal.

Sometimes....oftentimes....the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) system is the best approach to a task LOL.
