breifly... not impressed with today's offer.. but thanks just the same! After a very confusing installation/activation process, the program installed and activated correctly. Using win7, 64bit. However, as mentioned previously, one can not upload photo by photo.. only by complete folder.. same goes for audio... so one may need to first create a folder only for the specific photos to be used.. and another for the audio choices. But what really lost my vote was the poor photo quality output. There appears to be a serious loss of resolution.. many of the pics became badly out of focus..

It annoys me that I cannot find a way to turn off the update check on this! It's there, in the "About" tab but it's greyed out (at least on my installation). The only way I managed to disable it was through the registry, HOWEVER, I found that the program RE-ENABLED it when it was started again! Very irritating! Grrrrr...

@gPhotoShow
Can the author of the program give an explanation and a "how-to" disable the update check? Please?

Thanks for this gift, which seems very nice.

BUT why is "check for updates" ticked with no way of turning it off? This is very annoying.

I presume there's a way of disabling this setting in the Registry settings, but probably beyond me and most average users.

I use an early version of this very kind program for years. The reason simple that I wanted a screensaver runing my own pics as a photographer. I like this tiny utility since very simple and give all functions what I need. It's not an IrfanView. But it is perfect to run my screensaver as I want it.. and thats perfect and enough for me for this purpose. I do not like the programs having too much opps and functions pushing for my pc. I prefer the one which does the sole function I need. Please look this program this way. I do offer to users who like simple but reliable working solutions..

@ drvajra: click on "save", then on "save to file & preview", give your slideshow a name and you will see it. Click on "load" and on its name next time you open the program and want to see the slideshow again. You can also create a .scr or .exe

Just a note-I have used the free gPhotoShow Slideshow Screen Saver for years and have installed it on other computers for family and friends. It's one of those programs that reliably does what it says it does. Great program!

Basically, this product don't do much than Irfanview. Ok, it may have more options, but are they really needed?

With all the bells and whistles, can it produce HTML5 code (hey, I should be paid for having such original-not-seen-anywhere-not-even-on-tv idea, lol)? Because HMTL5 is the future (cloud, network, ...). See it in action here.

Each time a screensaver runs (i.e. wasting resources) energy providers get money for nothing. (If it were not the case, then you'd be working on the computer with the screensaver halted, Q.E.D.) They thank you very much in advance. If enough people run screensavers, they might need to built a new nuclear plant near your house (not mine, lol).

Vendor - Can you pls respond? I installed the program; it says registered to GOTD3, but there is no "Produce" button. In the tutorial, the Screenshot shows an OK button. This button is missing in the installed program.

I hope the Vendor shows some responsibility by reading the comments and responding. GOATD: Can you pls have vendor respond?

Thanks

@drvajra You have to run activate.exe under the same windows user account you run gPhotoShow otherwise it will not see the activation. About the OK button, it is not there because you are running it as "Slideshow Creator". Please take a look at the tutorials to see how to use the program.

Please help: I installed as Administrator, and Activated as administrator. Though it says "Actived successfully", the program does not seem to be activated. When I try to create slideshow or scrap book etc., there is no OK button on the bottom.
When I click on the "About" button, it says enter Registration key.

Vendor, please help!!

I am with Ashraf on this one's Free Alternative. The Trouble with Irfanview (IV) is that it does everything you can think of and it needs a 150 page illustrated IDG book published to read about its virtues.

It certainly does what this one trick pony attempts. I'm not saying gPhotoshow is bad at all. I AM saying that slide shows are just one thing IV can do easily and it can make it loop and even run automatically by just inserting it into your PC or your Friend's PC who doesn't OWN or heard of IV. I know, I used to do this frequently where I worked and for Displaying items at Computer shows. Easy Peezy.

Not sure why PhotoStory 3 is being mentioned here as it's a far more comprehensive program originally conceived to produce slideshows of true movie-production quality. It's now 13 years old and due to Microsoft's witless early abandonment of further development is firmly rooted in the days of 4:3 CRT TV screens and has never heard of home DVD players. Folks like me who are used to PS3 know all the work-arounds (which is why we think PS3 is the finest example anywhere of this kind of software) including output scripts, wide screen re-setting from the native 4:3 and even the torturous process of actually getting a PS3 slideshow to burn to a blank DVD -- but PS3 is something of an overkill if you want a quick 'n easy slideshow which isn't seeking to provide the finest in Ken Burns motion control (and in PS3, the Ken Burns Effect has never been bettered) or intricate user'chooser management of everything from slide time duration to transition duration.

Today's giveaway -- software I've used before -- is a handy little run-about which works extremely well and is certainly superior to many a higher priced commercial offering of this kind. It's light and quick and easy -- the exact opposite of Microsoft PhotoStory 3.

As for the freeware DVD Slideshow GUI mentioned above, it's a laudable attempt to place a variety of Open Source video / image / audio processing apps under the hood of a straightforward GUI. But the results are still a zillion miles from PhotoStory 3 and really, in the context of today's giveaway, are fairly irrelevant given that gPhotoShow Pro is small program (excluding the GAOTD wrapper) that's easily downloaded, easily installed, and easily put to work within a few moniutes to do the kind of things it was designed for.

Thanks, GAOTD, and thanks to the developer, too: I'd happily recommend this to anyone even if only for a trial run. Like others here though, I am irritated by the 147 down votes it has received (at the time of writing this) from moronic button pushers who continue to wreak havoc with the credibility of GAOTD's voting system. Sadly, asking people *not* to vote if they haven't downloaded, installed, and used the GAOTD software offering has long since proved pointless -- these anonymous non-users of the giveaways just carry on regardless in their own ignorant fashion.

@RichU Most slideshows that have the pan and zoom effect, also known as the Ken Burns effect (because he used the effect so successfully in his historical documentaries made for TV) actually have the panorama effect built in. The way you do it is to frame one side of the photo, then pan over and frame the other side. this will have the effect of panning across a wide panorama. Try this easy but spartan freebie to see the effect in action ... http://www.photofilmstrip.org/
then pay for LQ graphics photo to movie slideshow software. It is very nice for panoramas and generally is considered one of the best commercial slideshow makers... http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php

Thanks for all the comments. As BHT underlined while gPhotoShow Pro can create screen savers and slideshow for distribution its strongest features are targeted to the local screen saver usage and other are very specific for users that have huge photo collections.
For example these are some of the key features you will probably not find in similar products:
- Can display an almost unlimited number of photos and other supported files
- User defined filters based on image size, file name, rating and keywords
- Can display custom captions with Exif,IPTC,XMP metadata support
- With the MonitorOnOff PlugIn it is possible to automatically power-off attached monitors or switch-off and resume the system at a specified time of the day.
- With RssFeeds plugin it is possible to display news from RSS feeds and download images from RSS feeds used by most online photo galleries (Flickr, Panoramio, Picasa and much more)
- Full Flickr integration ! The Flickr plugins allows to download public and private photos from Flickr Photostreams, Groups and Sets
- Digital camera RAW files support
- Color Management. gPhotoShow can read and use embedded ICC color profiles and AdobeRGB exif tag

I am specifically interested in the Panorama features. Since this program seems to have some problems, what freeware programs have comparable panorama features?

Thanks

No a bad software. Interface is a little "dated" but a decent app overall. If you have time and want to create a screen saver with your photos it's a good choice, even if you need to pay 16 euros ($20 ?). For a quick slideshow I still prefer picShow With Tunes http://www.customdworks.com/picShow.aspx

I have been using this product and the associated Wallpaper product for many, many years. I do not use it to create stand-alone slideshows but rather to "create" screensaver slide shows simply by pointing the software at my master directory of photographs! I just did that for a reduced size collection on a NAS drive, over 75,000 photos! The screen went blank for a couple of minutes then up came a photo at random, with additional photos "dropped" onto the original and then another etc.. I have configured the software to display the description, author, date and time so that I am both entertained and my memory refreshed at the same time. I am not sure that any other software can achieve this so simply!? There are many options and they can be confusing but I feel that it is well worth the effort. I configured my Father-In-Laws machine the same way, with the screensaver cutting in very quickly, and it made all his photos accessible with no effort on his behalf!

No bad at all, although the ridiculous current low USERS RATING would suggest the opposite.

Can also be used to create personalized screensavers with tons of advanced options offered to users, such as the cool feature to scale images, in order to fit them to screensize, the ability to display videos, animations and webpages in the slideshow final output, as well as the option to set transition speed and the time delay between slides.

Overall, this is an excellent software which is worth dowloading and buying (20 BUCKS is very cheap for what it does), but it's definitely NOT for noobs.

I'm surprised so many people have voted on this one, as if they've had the same problems as I have then they've not been able to test it yet, as the downloaded zip file failed each time. It shows a size of less than 200kb compared to the 13Mb it is supposed to be.
