You can get a copy of the program directly from Paragons site, then go to the second link below to request a key for the program.

I hope this works for you.

My download went OK, but installation failed. I pressed the "Get free serial" button per instructions in the readme file, and got the follow error message.
Installshield Wizard completed
the wizard was interrupted before Paragon Drive Backup (tm) 9
personal edition could be completely installed.Your system has not been modified. To complete installat at
another time, please run setup again.Running again, rebooting, etc. didn't help.
Just went to the site recommended by Whiterabbit; we'll see if they send a serial.
This is the first time I've had this kind of disappointment from GotD.
Edit: Yes! They responded promptly, and the key/serial number worked. Thanks, Whiterabbit! I'm up and running.

Here is a question for those with more knowledge than me. Should I install this program on the back up partition, or will that not work? I am running Returnil and it was recommended that I place some of my programs on a seperate partition. That is why I ask this question. Also, can I store the disc image on the back up partition? After every crash I have had, that was the only information that was left untouched.

Hi again Frique
Seems logical to me.
Install the program on the backup partition and create the backup on this one too.
(..don't forget to check 'backup MBR')
But be sure to make a bootable recovery disk and to launch the recovery from there..

Thanks Robert. I wanted to check before I downloaded the program, just to make sure I didn't screw up again. I still need to clear the data off of my D drive, but at least I will have a functional (and highly rated) imaging program for future use. I am of to download & install. Peace.

Minor problem Robert. It would not let me change where the program was unpacked. It went straight into the program files. I thought about changing the install directory, but I got scared and left it at the default location. If it works (and it should recover the back up program too) I will not worry about it.
One interesting thing, it found 2 partitions labeled "*" one was about 37 GB and I think it may have been the factory restore partition. I just wish I knew how to access it. The hot keys tech support gave did absolutely nothing the last 2 crashes. The other was only 3.1 GB. I am still confused on the math too. 160 GB hard drive partitioned, C drive = 108 GB, D drive = 39 GB, Z drive = 4 GB, "*" drive = 37 GB & 3.1 GB. Somehow it doesn't add up.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Frique,
1. Question: When your list showed the two "*" partitions... was "D" in that same list at the same time? On my puter Paragon shows "D" as "*" with a slightly different size, so that could explain the 39/37 GB.
2. Guessing: The 3.1 GB "*" could be a hidden restore partition (restore partitions are usually less than 10 GB). Paragon would show a hidden partition, even if your Windows' settings normally keep it out of sight.
3. Fact: Your Returnil partition "Z" is a VIRTUAL partition and you shouldn't count that coz in reality (by default) it's located on / part of "C".
If 160 GB is the hard disk size that the manufacturer stated then you're lucky to have 150 GB usable space so to me your little list looks good ;-)
Hope this helps.Regards,

Help; Have downloaded this software, and tried to install three times, but have always ended up getting a pop-up message stating the emailed serial # is invalid !No answer from the company web site when asked for Help. How do I get this software to work seeing the time to register will have run out now?
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi grandmaster,
The download window is closed, but the activation might still work for a very limited amount of time... just try it!
If you copy/paste the serial number: Make sure you don't include any empty spaces at the beginning or the end of the selected code.
If you type the serial number: Watch out for:
0 - O : number zero - capital letter "o"
I - l - 1 : capital letter "i" - lower case letter "L" - number oneGood Luck!

I downloaded this software twice today w/in the time frame allotted. The first time at the of the download, the file turned out to be corrupted. On the second download I received and activated message, however it did not activate properly because I am unable to use the software.

For some reason the program wouldn't install onto one of my computers (Computer B). So I used the original file from the first computer (Computer A) to get a serial number for Computer B. I then copied the installed program from computer A to computer B and used the new serial (you could have used the link above until the end of the giveaway, but that link is no longer valid) and the program worked. (I tried using both the giveaway installation and the demo from Paragon and neither would install onto computer B)…… Strange.
If you have the serial number you may be able to use the demo that’s available from Paragon (which becomes the full version once you've inputted the serial number). I've also posted a link to the appropriate page.

Installed after a long struggle on one pc with an Intel cpu and XP Pro,failed miserably on 2 others that have Athlon cpu's.(Also strange). Not really too worried about this as I have Acronis on my main pc and have a 'Computer Shopper' mag DVD(UK), with similar offer on Paragon products. Can understand frustration of many people who failed though.Problems possibly caused by the ammount of people trying to access the offer.

Hi Rabbit
Strange ,maybe.Somehow it looks as if the activation code is hardware related and the license is only valid for one computer.
Glad to see you've managed anyway.
:)
Maybe GOTD will consider offering a second chance to people working with slow dial up connection and maybe split the download in a 32 and 64 bit version.Posted 15 years ago # -
Last night I was able to download Paragon Drive Backup 9 Personal.
I unzipped the file and installed.
It prompted for the serial number.
The install attempted to access http://www.paragon... and I continually
got the message that IE could not display the web page.
I tried this dozens of times, even on a second computer with
the same results.
I thought that the web site was too busy. I tried again today,
with the same error message. I cannot even maually access
http://www.paragon-software.com.
I have been looking for such a software package. Is there
a way that I can install today?
Thanks, BruceRPosted 15 years ago # -
I'm also having a problem with invalid serial number. I got my serial code via the Get Free Serial button, but when I attempted to copy/paste it, it keeps telling me the Unlock Product Key or Serial Number is not valid. I tried the download link Whiterabbit posted and get the same result. Any ideas?

Hi Lan,
I am not 100% sure that I am reading this thing correctly. I have opened the Paragon program and I see a pie chart up top and a section toward the bottom labeled "disk map." On the pie chart, I can make out 3 partitions (2 fairly large in blue, 1 tiny in orange), but under the disk map I see 4 partitions. the two that are similar in size have different formats. "*" is FAT 16 while drive "D" is NTFS. When I run the backup wizard it gives me the option to check all 4 partitions, plus the MBR. On the wizard it lists the larger "*" file as FAT 16 (OEM Service Volume).
All I need to be happy is the ability to backup the OS and C drive. If I check the MBR and C drive, would that be sufficient, or should I also check the larger "*" drive? Actually, I could check every drive except for the "D" drive and have enough space. That would be a third possibility. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thank you for your time & patience.

Program is not working on my laptop (Vista Home PRem, 64-Bit) it says "Operation Failed - Disc is not Present" ... installed OK ... so!
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Frique,
Well... I had to re-install Paragon to see what's what.
The partitions that are shown next to each other in the 'disk map' are what actually fills your disk. So if your 'Basic Hard Disk 0' has:
C: 108GB NTFS / D: 39GB NTFS / "*" 37GB FAT16 / "*" 3.1GB FAT16
...then that hard disk is probably 200GB.
If the * 37GB is called 'OEM Service Volume' then it probably is the recovery partition, but it sounds massively oversized for that purpose (the entire OS + software on my test computer is less than 12GB and that includes 2GB for Returnil). From what you wrote in the "Returnil" thread, it sounds like your D-partition doesn't hold any vital system or program files, so ticking C and the MBR should save you if you need to re-install Windows. To save all your data (in case the hard disk dies) you could make a full disk image and save it to another (external) disk.
!!! Whichever you choose: You also need to make a Paragon recovery CD/DVD or USB-flash via the 'Recovery Media Builder' so that you can access your backup and re-install it. If you're not 100% sure that your computer can boot from USB then it's best to make a CD or DVD.
Restoring Windows while it is running can potentially corrupt the active files, so even if Windows can still boot... it is always safer to boot from the CD/DVD/flash when you want to restore system files!Hope this makes sense.

Do you have a Dynamic disks configuration?
If yes, only the professional version of Drive Backup will support this.Posted 15 years ago # -
Hello again Lan,
I am about 98% sure that when I purchased the computer I upgraded from an 80 GB hard drive to a 160 GB hard drive. That doesn't mean that they didn't put a 200 GB hard drive in its place though. I ordered a standard CD ROM and received a CD/DVD burner in its place. If I did get a 200 GB hard drive, well that is even better!
Thank you for the guidance on what to back up on my computer. I will get to work on cleaning out the D drive and back up the computer this weekend. I have already made a boot disc. I figured that would be a good test to see if Paragon installed properly or not. I now have it stashed with my backed up photo & text files. And Robert, thank you for all your help too! Peace,
Frique

I had the Giveaway of the Day Paragon Drive Backup 9 zip file opened and ready to be installed many hours before the offer was set to expire.
After the zip file was installed, the windows installer, prompt asking for the product key user name/serial number which i then submitted precisely as was provided in the email checking/re-checking to no avail, each time invalid key kept repeating itself until requesting another product/serial number repeating everything in the same way with the same failure as being invalid.First attempt >>>-Invalid

that i also downloaded that in the aftermath of the two separate failed thought to
submit the information as it appeared below but as the offer had by this time expired
was unable to have the zip file re-installed but which I believe provided the proper
product key user name/serial key but never got the opportunity to submit them

Marc,
if you are able to get another product/serial number, watch out for certain characters. They have mixed the number 0 in with a capital "o" and the number 1 can look like a lower case "L" (shown opposite for clarity.) I had an invalid key because I was not able to copy & paste the codes. I switched one of the (zeros) for the letter "O" and it worked for me. You may need to switch several until you hit the right combination, so don't get frustrated. I wish you the best of luck!

I had no problem whatsoever in downloading and getting the license. Copy Paste from the e-mail containing the license works fine, and I wouldn't want to type them manually ! Actually when you have got the e-mail with the license, I think you may download directly the software frolm Paragon, as shown in one of the posts before.

only for one PC so get 2 Email's and get 2 Numbers and you OK.like Hotmail & Gmail & not the same name.
