Hello u two kids, stop fight 'bout who did/wrote what when. You do know BuBBy is Omnipresent and was here tomorrow or will be here yesterday... Forgot which!

Well, I don't care as much for underline (yes, was discussed last time, I know it doesn't work, was just venting).
But would rewlly rewlly very much like to have Colour.
Just to give a little *something* brighter to this sea of B&W

It's just I don't have the right codes. I've been hunting around, have tried several, they never work. These are the last ones I found, but still no good:
BLUE
RED

'Cmon BuBBy, I know it can be done. Pliiizzze?

Yo, Mangoette, I forgot that Bubby has that unfair advantage. He wiggles the Intl Dateline so hard it looks like he's tickling a brown tree snake with a featherduster.

As for your desire to brighten the GAOTD forums, your jocularity will have to do for now since I don't see any way for you, as an individual on the wrong side of the server, to wrest control from the GAOTD stylesheets using simple commands.

This is not my baliwick, but I don't see where they're using plug-ins, so I presume they let BBCodeLite for BBPress (assoc. w/ WordPress) use the default Kakumei template. I came across a hint that BBPress (BB must stand for Bare Bones) either supports or is working on adding a color plugin, but I misplaced the page (I think you need to click the Documentation tab) at - http://bbpress.org/

3. Well it's really not up to me (and I don't have the rights to add such a feature) but some may feel what looks "nice" to some - looks "atrocious" and "unreadable" to someone else.

I'm guessing the restriction on color while "boring" is at least consistently "boring and readable". I can ask the GOTD Team to consider it, but personally can't make any changes myself.

using firefox, tools>options>content tab. just below 'font' is color, open that, uncheck 'let sites pick color, then choose your regular and link colors.

I use black back, gray text, links are teal until followed, then magenta.

BubbyCo makes a good point. If colors were opened up, GAOTD forums would likely resemble the sides of subway cars and buildings after neo-urban haute artistes (formerly known as huffing graffito gangbangers) finish unboring them... illegible and garish.

I noticed a mention in the BBPress documentation just to the font color red, though IMHO, red as a spot color makes for a jarring contrast. Worse would be if the Comedy Comments Theatre overflow crowd stroll over here, waving messages entirely in red to accuse GAOTD of high crimes and misdemeanors or whine about skipped games. Yikes.

Maizey or Goody I've been practicing HTML code, and reading the posts here.I copied and pasted both of the templates that you posted, great idea and understand their use. What puzzles me is the mention of backticks.

1.Why and when are they used?

2.Can you italics and bold within the same tag, example ( scubaguy )bold and italics at the same time.

3.maizey how did you post a before and after using HTML and not have the before example just turn into what it would look like after you posted it? Let me say that another way,How do you show HTML code without it turning into what it looks like when it's used? I hope that makes sense?

Would you please use a before and after concerning the backticks?

Thanks in advance

I hope 3# makes sense, just reread it,Whoooh!!Just found out I have to have surgery on my knee and the Doc. upped the strength of the pain meds, not sure I like it.

if you put an html or formatting code, say for scubaguy inside a pair of backticks it isn't 'seen' as a code by the page and translated, so you can post the structure of a command, like this: <em><strong>scubaguy</strong></em>.

[note the nesting of the start and stop format commands]

How do you show HTML code without it turning into what it looks like when it's used?

put it inside backticks.

I'd love stronger painkillers- alas, morphiates I get negative reactions to, and the docs won't give me methadone or percoset.

wimps.

Made sense to me.

scubaguy, you're welcome. I think Goody answered your questions. Let us know if you need more clarification.

And I understood your #3.

When do you have to get your surgery? Hope all goes well.

Thanks goody it all makes sense now,so basically you would use the backticks to prevent it from turning into code.
What about Oxicotten,(not sure on spelling)or is that an morphiate? Strongest I have ever had was 4 days of morpine drip in the hosp.for bad back and then 3 weeks of Dilaudid.I know I joke around a lot about the meds.but if I don't take them I'm stuck in bed because of the pain, but with them am able to get things done and run around, well not really run around.

Yep. And the backticks don't show in the text.

Oxycodone is percoset or percodan, don't recall which- Oxycontin is the other- (good stuff, both, yeah synthetic morphiates, but worth it...) and my last fusion surgery they put me on a push-it timed morph drip- had to let it stop every so often as it irritated the drip site bad. don't recall ever experiencing dilaudid. I have massive tolerance from my everyday meds.

had to insist on a foley catheter, too, as that's one of the side effects, knocks out the muscle relaxant effects of the valium.

after I got off the drip it took 2 gallons of coffee and 4 hours before I could 'go' unassisted and they'd let me out. grr.

Enjoyed it to the max while I had it though.

the annoying part is I gave them a printed 5-page report on admission listing my meds and known idiosyncratic reactions to stuff like morphine and they acted like I made it all up. Or they didn't bother to read it.

12 years of detailed, documented observations boiled down & printed out with bullet points, gone to waste. Idiots.

15. <b>Scuba</b>......what are they going to do to your knee? Is it a replacement?

and <b<Good</b> too.....I've been on every pain med for severe arthritis for years and I got so fed up after the Vioxx thing. It was the only med that even began to touch the pain. I tried a bunch of others afterwards but none did a thing. Now I just OD daily on Ibuprophen. Some days it helps and some days I colapse on the couch and do nothing all day cause the pain is so unbearable. They won't do a knee replacement because I'm "too young".

-----edit------
Hey! Why didn't those tags work?

-----edit #2-----
What am I doing wrong? I tried HTML and BB Codes, but neither seemed to work.

The quick wheather changes really get me,have to sleep with a pillow between my knees.Sounds crazy but one knee ontop of the other hurts.
I was just thinking if any of the younger members read these posts will all be known as the "over the hill gang".

If you wanted bold use <strong>bold</strong>

19. Gray......well um.....considering another problem I have from time to time......and no, I don't care to elaborate......Dripplets would really fit!

24. Just saw your post up there about the knees, cartiledge etc. I completely understand the pillow thng, I do that too, and if I lay on my back I MUST have a pillow under my knees so they're bent a bit. Also the weather....changes and extremes...hot or cold.

The HTML thing.......think I might have it now, lets see...Robert

I thought I had all this Lasagna stuff figured out and have been using it successfully!!
Still, don't know *what* a "backtick" is. Searched, Wikipedia says it's a Accent Grave.
Ok, is this it then: (`) the one I use in "dernière"?
What do u call this one: (´) "bénévole"?
And what does this really mean: Put code in btwn backticks?

Sorry, I know these are basic questions, but there are so many new Words/Concepts/Tech I'm trying to learn in 3 different languages at the same time, I get confused sometimes!
I don't know how Gray does it all in 4 languages!! Oufff... I can hardly keep up!

=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Hi there my Scuba Dude sparring pal :D
The pillow thing is NOT crazy at all. I'm w you! LOTS of Pillows.
One for the knees for back support, another to support the arm, yet another on the back so I don't roll to my back, a special one for the head.
Different sizes, different shapes, different thickness for ea. function!
Pillows are my friends!! Better Pillows than Pills, right?

Maybe this is TMI[Too Much Info], several doctors, chiros, therapists, etc have told me:
Don't sleep on your back, the very worst position is to sleep on your stomach.
Best position is sideways, knees bent w a pillow btwn the knees - helps a lot w lower back pain.
Use the best pillow u can afford for neck/head support, but never too thick.

LeKanaw, the "backtick" (`) key is directly above your "tab" key. Read this post to discover how they are used. Scuba asked about it in question #3 in the post right above this.

personally I cut and paste them, usually from a text file in pairs- but...

there's always one on each end of the word backticks under the post entry box in the list of "Allowed markup:".

[shrug] who needs a key?

Thanks for telling me where the key was, maizy, I've never looked to see what was *un*shifted ~ !

so much easier to cut and paste, now my replacement finger mouse came in. greatest laptop pointing device I've used.

I purely despise touchpads you can't turn off the tapping crap on, and not fond of ones you can.

no scroll wheel.

dunno, but I think they're not separate back or forward ticks, they're differently accented e's.

putting html or formatting code between "`"'s hides it so it's shown as text and not executed.

Like LeKanaw versus <em>LeKanaw</em>, you just can't see them after they do the job.
