Bonjour Maizey & Goody (You got ur name shortened :D Can I use it too?)
Yes, I read the WHOLE thread.
I understood SC questions, but I didn't understand the answers, thats why I asked...

No, on my keyboard on top of the "tab" I have "backslash". It's positioned differently for different languages! Yes it's a QWERTY, but w more keys for special letters.
My Til is above my É.
You were *NOT* talking about the backslash I hope!?! Don't confuse my poor head even more!!
If I don't understand the words it's hard to grasp the concept.

I too use the copy/paste trick from a sticky - I've written all the codes in there and just copy them when needed :-D

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Now Goody, that mouse of yours is mighty impressive!!! Wow!!!
I've always used a special mouse (bc of the problems on my arm/shoulder/wrist) w a ball so I can control everything without moving the arm a lot.
Can u post links to specs & articles so I can learn more about your thingamaging?

Thank you all for ur help =(°v°)=

    REPEATED in ENGLISH

    Morning, Mangoette,
I thought those 2 were doing an decent job, but never considered the possibility that you were using a Chinese keyboard.
Look for the mirror image of the apostrophe on one of your keys. On my QWETYboard, it's the lower case character under the TILDE, but not yours? If you can't find it, and if you can't post clear photo(s) of your keyboard, then please provide the make/model number of your keyboard and someone will go to the manufacturer's site for a look see.

buckleysmom.. have you ever had the dr. prescribe methotrexate for your arthritis? I go to a rheumatologist. Of course it depends on what kind of arthritis it is. Mine is rheumatoid, and before I started taking that I couldn't even sleep at night for the pain in my left hip. The "golden years"!

    Bon Matin, cher Monsieur LeMagicien

So, if it's not a US keyboard, it's a chinese one?? Hummmm...
Well no, it's a French one.
Vis à vis the return key, I have ({`) On the left of that one it's (;:~) Under it, it's (éÉ´)
I have to use Lower/Upper/AltCar. Most keys are at the same place, not all. Several have more characters in them.
This sign ~ is not the Tilde per se. This one is: ã õ
But that is neither here nor there, if u see my post on page 3, I wrote both "ticks" ` & ´ alone and on top of letters é è. We've always called them accents in Eng/Fr/Pt/Esp, never crossed my mind it was called "ticks"!
Anyhooo, now I know. So this () is abackticks`. And this (´) is called what?

    Résumé:
By putting a (`) b4 and after, the page doesn't recognize the command and u can show the code.
At the bottom of the page: Put code in between backticks, means if we put the code btwn a pair of backticks it shows bc not recognized.
IS THAT IT?? Hope soooo! So much headache for such a small detail.

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
La traduction était vraiment TRÈS bien! 91% pour l'écriture et j'ai compris à 100%!!
You do have a super dooper translator or someone helped you... Bravo :-D

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Yesterday I was able to make text appear in Blue!! Unfortunately, have been unable to reproduce it since :-(

Merci Beaucoup for all the help, Everybody!! And for being patient too... ;-)

  5. LeK...the backtic ` slants more and is smaller than the apostrophy '. Also, I believe that the apostrophy is always on the key with the quote " mark no matter what language keyboard you have. But I could be wrong about that. I wrote pages and pages of HTML codes for my website several years back but never bothered using codes in forums and chats....too lazy. So now I'm getting interested in using them again. It's all "thier" fault.....you know the ones.....Maizey, Good, Scuba, "The bunny", Rune and a few others too.

Copmom.....no I've never tried that one but I have osteoarthritis. I have a lot of issues with meds, they tend to irritate my stomach, or make me jittery, or cause a rash and itch so I hate trying new ones, plus some of them are ridiculously expensive and seldom work anyway. But there are those really painful days when I have considered calling the doc to see if there's anything new out there. Sometimes you just want relief at whatever the cost.

  6. LeK.....oops, looks like we were posting at the same time. Also looks like you've got it worked out too.

no problem with goody, or just g. (one of the Men In Plaid)

don't know anywhere to get real specs, got the first one on a 'gee, that might work' whim when I spotted them on ebay.

so, go to ebay, type 'finger mouse optical' in the search box, and hit the search button, then sort to taste.

the titles say there are 1200 dpi & 800 dpi, but all the black ones seem to be 1200.

prices vary a lot, and shipping I haven't a clue outside the usa.

they all seem to count the scroll wheel as a button, but there's just 2 real buttons. pushing on the scroll wheel just breaks it.

this one is a MS05 1200 dpi as those were cheapest under 'buy it now' when ordered. here's a usage graphic, which finger & how you end up using it depends on the size of your hands, I think.

if the 'left' button sticks 'on' once in a while at first, just loosen the case screws a tiny bit, it goes away after a while anyway.

the MO31 is in a different package, the blue M02, pink MO3, and purple MO4 seem to be 800 dpi, the green, yellow and red ones are likely to be the same. :)

buckleysmom, here's a reference for methotrexate.

    Posted 8 months ago #
  8. Good....wow.....now that looks like a type of med I've never tried. I might check that out with doc and see what he says.

    Copmom....is the methotrexate expensive?

Anglais: Dearest Mango Princess, I'm heartened to learn trusty old Freetranslator works magic with foreign language the way I can on hapless toads and bats. I might already have told the story of using Freetranslator a few years ago to communicate with a foreign laborer who would simply nod and keep doing things incorrectly. His supervisor finally read one note and laughed, saying, "He doesn't understand... he's basically illiterate and only speaks Portuguese." I may loathe the 3rd world bazaar our country's becoming, but I do wish to communicate with as few misunderstandings as possible with the occasional Mangoette or Graylox whose paths I've the pleasure of crossing.

    = = = = =

As I wrote to Bubby back in January, the "backtick" isn't my preferred term. It's better(?) known as the gravé accent. It is canted to the left (backwards), whereas the apostrophe is canted to the right (forwards) or is vertical depending on whether you're using formatted or unformatted text. (just as slashes are canted either backwards or forwards)

Leave it to foreign keyboards to offer more flexibility than US-made boards. Interesting to hear you can place 2 characters atop one another. I have to use C:\WINDOWS\system32\charmap.exe to bring up a little utility for copying/pasting alt and special characters. Easier than trying to remember their ASCII codes.

I was taking Vioxx among others, at the time all the heart attack deaths were starting to be uncovered. It frightened me quite a lot.
One of the pills (forgot the name) made me hallucinate a little bit, like spaced out. Wasn't prepared for it, nothing was explained prior to, so I thought I was loosing my mind. My husband was quite panicked. I never took recreational drugs, so didn't really knew what was going on.
Totally irresponsible of the medical profession!!!

Now, I'm taking NO meds!! Never liked it, other than the occasional aspirine, and that bad experience left me even more suspicious!!
I do prefer my mind clear of *all* external influences!
I have an overflowing imagination as it is... No need to had to it :-D

Rune - I was wondering which translator you use,and could you provide a link?
I would like to compare and see if they are the same or if they differ?

Geeee, takes me sooo long to write, you all posted b4 I even saw any of it!
(Edit: was referring to posts over 1 hr ago, not those since!)
And after I post, I spend the next half hour making corrections...
Yeah... Compulsive perfectionist here!! All in all, it's 1hr to 1½h for each! \:-< *sigh*

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
Hey Runes, we posted at the same time !!
Yes, I concur, Accent Grave is much more clear & to the point. But what do I know...!!!

Tell u one of my secrets.
For the other languages I use, my keyboards don't have ALL the characters I need either.
So, I integrated 5 dicos into FF, so I can change to the language I'm writing on, via Context menu>Languages. Then while I'm writing, I can choose amongst the different suggested corrections it proposes, and I can add those special characters I don't have.
Nice, huh!! See, FF *IS* your friend!!
Much easier than to use your recipe!! Never even heard of it before...

Also, when using a translator, try to use primary words, sans fantasies, otherwise the meaning gets mangled or worse totally incomprehensible. For instance when u say "trusty old Freetranslator works magic", *work* is translated as travail (pluriel: Travaux) = Job, Employment, Task.
Not what u really meant = functions as, does, performs.
    Just my 2cents.

This part though "I may loathe the 3rd world bazaar our country's becoming", is a strange assessment and a bit disconcerting!!
Hope I'm not finding a closed minded intolerant magician under a nice exterior...

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=

    Hi Goody
Thank you for the info & pic :-)
I'll try to find it by searching w GG.
I never used eBay, don't know much about it, so not going that route.
There is an eBay Canada, no need to access the US branch.
My motto: Buy localy, encourage the small entrepreneur.
Never even went into an Wallmart, don't plan to either.

You said: Pushing on the scroll wheel just breaks it.
What do you mean by that? What breaks?

Just 2 buttons is rather little, no? I have 9 on mine and I use them all...
Maybe other models have more? I'll sniff around!

  15. Graylox, I'll 'splain my rationally nativistic/xeno-loathic position in an upcoming admiral seed. Wouldn't want the censors to kow tow to whining thinskins who'd undoubtedly find any response politically incorrect. What people choose to read into my comments depends entirely on whether they're flaming polarized kneejerk hyperbole-chasers, or rational and logical seekers of civil discourse and analysis willing to look past my blunt/candid exterior. I've been called everything in the book, mostly incorrect nonsense. My position doesn't waver; but as I said above, any enmity I may have towards others excludes friends and even passing acquaintances of any persuasion sited at any point on the globe.

    Hi RM, No explanation needed.
I've lived in 3 continents, many countries/societies, visited others.
    I've heard it all before.

I'm glad u are so certain of all you know and of being always right, all disagreement stemming from other's lack of logic or understanding or ...
Me on the other hand, I'm always analyzing, reassessing, finding new facets, looking deeper, learning.

    So all is good.

  21. Ugh! I don't see how you guys can keep on top of all this in several languages. I have a tuff enough time with just English.

LeK.....oh, so then the punctuation is different....cool!
My brother still has a bottle of Vioxx that he takes when things get really bad and I keep trying to get him to toss them but he won't. I know what you mean about having a clear mind, I can't stand it even when I take cold medicine that make me foggy, it's a horrible feeling to not have control of your mind. I'd never make a good psycho patient.

  22. So, is it the lofty Mangoettian sentiment that a philosophy massaged by years of observation and experience necessarily reflects a closed mind? So much for differences of opinion. I always felt one could be self-assured whilst still constantly analyzing and reassessing one's theories and biases... else modern science would have come to a standstill years ago. Never claimed to be "always right." I was wrong once back in '74. Seriously, that I rely on observed history, experience and continued education to heighten awareness of and resistance to persuasive but inherently irrational concepts (to avoid falling under the sway of emotionalism) still seems like a sound approach. Candid/blunt statements in expository writing don't equal absolute claims to "correctness" or "omniscience." Surprises abound. One's personal sensibilities and sensitivities combine with upbringing and experience to form opinions that may or may not be borne out in practice, but I will never be swayed simply by peer pressure, fads or popular opinion. (egad, that doesn't mean I concur with Dick Cheney!!) Yes, I call's 'em as I see's em, and others are always free to do the same. Misunderstandings can either come out in the wash or leave ugly stains.

    Hi there Buckley
I find it beautiful when we try other languages, don't you? But then, I do love words, different sounds. And they taste different! Different muscles at work too, physically & figuratively. Opens the mind to the possibilities.

Well, the Vioxx thing is *NO JOKE*, he really should throw them out.
What frightens me most is the Miracle Pill of today could become the nightmare of 2morrow, we don't know who's research to trust, which agency is really keeping watch, which doctor is being paid to prescribe what.
In the meantime, some Corp. CEO is buying is 3rd mansion or his second yacht.
I think if we all had a bit more time & money, we would really be less sick. Would have time for a bit of sun in winter, frequent massages, relaxing saunas, healthy food, etc
Most of our problems result in deficiencies in those areas!
The rat race has caught up w us! Don't think we are winning ...

  27. Yep, I did mistake a rotten mango as being lobbed from the wrong global outpost. (mistake corrected) One person's offended socio-political sensibilities can sometimes just be another person's blunt assessment of failed policy, neither a case of hoof in mouth nor an intended slight. I've often found that when I'm more peckish or ornery than usual, allergy medicine and/or lack of coffee and/or the arrival of bad news are usually contributing factors. We are currently in the perfect storm. Wonder if this could be a more universal problem?

Sooo, sorry. I misspelled it!! Dummy :-[
    I didn't re-re-read my post 10 times as I usually do - It's PicQuic
Maybe u don't have them there?! I just checked, it's from Manitoba. Maybe they don't sell everywhere?!
It's an amazing screwdriver! Not electric, not fancy! Just plain good, solid, compact, balanced.
Everybody should at least have one of those. They are expensive!
Hubby offered me a couple. I'm crazy that way. No jewellery, a screwdriver and I'm happy!
Well, "Offered" is a big word... Ulterior motives me thinks! I didn't let him use mine so he offered me others so we could share... ;-D HeeHeee

    Hellooo Runes
Just as a clarification, I was not nor am I now offended. Maybe u wished I was?!
And an observation, I always thought u were the cool logical guy, since u keep repeating that mantra every chance u get. And thank you for the concern but I feel perfectly fine, no allergies, no lack of coffee and no bad news. I even slept several hours straight, unusual I know!!
What can I tell you... All is good!! You?? Feeling alright?? I do sense a slight frustration. The tiny mosquito keeps flying over, bothering your concentration, impossible to swat. Grrrr

    I concur w Buckley, u are such a blast. Yes indeed! :-D
So many big words. Sentences perfectly formed. Very interesting read. Good dissertation.
Please forgive me for not being a match in the meandering prose department, as u know I'm not.
The essence of the thought being more important.

Hope u don't mind the "foot in mouth" quote I borrowed from you.
Just btwn you & me, I know how to play the game, just not playing.
Almost forgot, are u *sure* it was 1974? Should check that again...
If u don't feel good, we shouldn't spar then. You should be willing to lose to be a good partner.
Otherwise, u just need a wall, yes? They don't talk back...

like I said, for laptop. dunno, really portable and can't fall off lap while riding (not driving on my meds) is what appealed to me...
