Yes, RA is a weekly Beta program. It's usually in the right side bar to join.

Oberon: http:www.oberongames.com/default_wflash.asp Left side Beta Program.

Playfirst: I get their newsletter and belonged to the community. This one I had to submit a request for to be considered for the "First Peek Program".

The above come to my inbox when they have games available. If you sign up don't catagorize your interests, say you interested in all games.

Alawar: You have to have bought something from them.
Big Fish: You have to be a paid member of the online community.
Reflexive: You have to live near Irvin, CA, they do only onsite testing

Mumbo Jumbo: Forget! They send a 15 minute demo, lmao.

Sorry to say RA is the only reliable one, comes out every Thursday.
Will post more when I remember them, just got up, takes my brain awhile to function.

Whabbit: I went there to look for strkeball as your above post mentioned it would be there if I wanted it. I am assuming filefront is a storage place. I looked for your name and that popped up, lol, only found your "sim" self, did you get out of the hut, lmao!?

Yes, an hour in not enough time!

I noticed with Oberon, if you don't shut the game down, just go to windowed mode an drop it down, you can play for as long as you like.

When I first started doing RA's you could play the same way. Then they put on the 60 minute limit, claiming that's what the developer wanted, Bull, since I belive they are testing for the sole purpose of buying the game for release on their site.

The most recent one I received was "Dairy Dash", Flo makes an appearence in this spinoff of Diner Dash. I played about 27 min, but could no longer handle the music and bad spelling errors, words running together. These dialog rich type games take along time to look for things.

60 minutes is not enough, but it's all your going to get. So I take it, and put my eyes on full look at everything mode.

Try Ultra Flexball 2000, a freeware arkanoid by Joakim Asplund that has over 300 levels of reasonable game play if you download the extra level sets as well. The graphics are ‘cheap’ by today’s standards, that is 16 bit, but really for a brick busting machine, that’s not a problem. This is well worth a look see if you like arkanoids

Dang, Big Fish just released Hyperballoid 2!

I want this game, but I also want Robbox.

Have a game credit coming up this week, yes I know at 6.99 I could get both, but am trying to stop myself from doing that all the time!

It starts with, oh just one extra, then gets out of control, lol!

Also iWin has games at 50% off until the 19th (I don't belong to that one).
They have a game I want called "Arabella the Fairy". I know it sounds corny, but the game is pretty good! Reminded me of the Zelda games, I have in the game console closet!
I could join, then opt out to get the game for Free, but I don't like doing that.

The thing that makes matters worse, is I am going thru game withdrawel, due to lack of decent games on this site since Magic Farms!

Must be "I can't take winter anymore blues"!

Whabbit: Fish also has Hyperballoid Gold Pack, which I haven't played yet, since you are the expert on Arkanoids, do you think they are both equal, or is Timerider better?

Hello WhiteRabbit! I am soooo glad to be able to talk with you. My name is Sharon and I am new to this gaming world and unzipping games and such. I do not have WinZip as it is not free anymore. The one I have is called Zip Wiz, which has worked for games from GGofTD, but not for the araknoid games you posted a link to for Araknoid.com? When I double click on the exe file I get errors can not find, etc. I want to thank you for your postings and links and to get to know you better. This is my first post on any forum. As I really like games, I hope to learn how to better communicate with all of you and learn, learn, learn. I suffer from painful diseases and am applying for SSD and have a 12 yr old son. Since there is no money to buy games, I am here to meet new people with shared interests and have fun too. It is a goood distraction from pain. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and hope to hear from you soon.

    Welcome candleflame7!!!!!!

Some of them may be RAR. files. Not familiar with Zip Wiz.

The first RAR, file I downloaded, windows popped up saying they did not recognize it and asked if I wanted windows to find something that would open it.

I ended up with WinRAR, which is not a Free program, they have a trial, which people have said will still work after the trial is over, just to open these files.
    Someone also recommended 7-Zip.

Whabbit is the best person to answer this question!!!!!!!

Hi Candleflame, I agree with you about the distraction therapy. I've spend a fortune on games since my accident as i found playing games really helped keep my mind off the pain. Sukibabe is absolutely right about winrar, once the trial is over it's still functional, you just get nag screens asking you to purchase the program. Also 7-Zip does unzip rar files (but wont zip to rar, so downloading 7-Zip is probably going to help with the files you've been unable to unzip:

    http://www.7-zip.org/

Have fun and also welcome to the giveaway forums. You'll meet loads of really nice people here. There's no flaming and if you need help on most issues just post in the appropriate threads. :)

    p.s.
Suki I bought Hyperballoid 2 the day it was released (over on Alawar). I got 30% off for beta testing it lol, though because it was Christmas they had reduced it for a limited period anyway. It's fantastic and also comes with a level editor. There's already a couple of fan made levels available but I can't find the link in my favorites folder. When I have the time I'll find it. It retains some semblence of the original in that the bricks are well made, but other than that the game is totally different and far better than the original. This one at least has some challenging levels.

Here's another Arkanoid game for you. This particular one was the best 2D Arkanoid you could buy until Ricochet Infinity was released. Following the link below will enable you to play Ricochet Lost Worlds as a flash game. Okay it's not exactly like having the full version, but the game is true to the full version with beautiful graphics and the same gameplay, only it's in a window:

    Thanks Whabbit!

I belong to Shockwave, so I have access to "Lost Worlds" Full version.

The only one of the Ricochet series they have that isn't the full version is "Extreme", that seems odd, it's only a 60 minute demo!

Thank you for the warm welcome, WR, Sukibabe and funkymom. I will try the 7-Zip. I was just at the game site"Caiman", recommended by someone here, that is where problem lies. I like some pinball games too, although the Real Thing is MUCH better, so I will now download the 7-Zip and give it another try. P.S. Whiterabbit, What does "Flamers" Mean? Have a Blessed day everyone. Sharon. Oh yeah, Suki, I am happy for you, as I have wanted to belong to Shockwave for years. Lucky you.

I was lucky in the fact that it came in an add on bundle from my ISP for $7.99@ month.

The only other one I use in that bundle (6 total) is American Greetings.

Love to send E-cards. If I need a greeting card, I can have it in a falsh.
I buy card stock and envelopes in bulk at a local office supply store.

Which reminds me, I better get going on making a card for my grandaughter's baby shower on the 24th. They wanted to know the sex! I'm to young to be a Grandma (she scream's), lol!

    > "To my knowledge there are no 3D arkanoids available as freeware"

There are many, WR. Today I discovered an excellent freeware fully 3D breakout / arkanoid clone called Mystery Land. The playfield is a cobblestone platform set in a pool surrounded by plant life, the atmosphere is all sunshine chirping birds and happy music. The ball control is excellent. The bricks, powerups and layouts (60 levels) are interesting and the gameplay has a unique but difficult to grasp RPG style twist (be sure to right click when prompted to 'level up', and left click after getting new powerups). The lack of instructions or info is a letdown but the game is well worth trying.

You can get it here: http://download.gamez.cz/game.php?id=4503
That's a trustworthy freeware/shareware portal in the Czech Republic (.cz) I've been visting for years, the freeware files are clean and available, and mostly in English.

    "There are many"
    http://bulanci.gamez.cz/rub.php?idr=5&ids=11&st=0
(13 pages of arkanoids, mostly freeware I think.)

I should talk to you about arkanoids sometime, Stephen. I've been hunting, trying and collecting them for years, though mostly from the freeware realm, and mostly in years past. So, I've been pleased to see your enthusiasm for them. 2Ds rock. ;-)

Hi and just wanted to say welcome to the forum, also noticed you asked,"What does "Flamers" Mean? This is from Wiktionary.

"Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and such a response is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. Occasionally, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they can be called "trolls". Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject."

Also here are some links to WinRar Downloads.

Hello ZF and thank you for the link to the 3D breakout game but, when I put in the letters and numbers to download I get can not find page over and over. Happen to you? Since it is not in English I am guessing at the right place to click. It said something about 5.8MB? Think it is right place but can not take me to download file after putting in the numbers and letters. O.K., now I am repeating myself. Sorry. Also, than you scubaguy for answering my question about Flamers.

    Whabbit:

Robbox won, have to wait for Hyperballoid 2!

I found out that if I turn on tip's in the options menu, when I get stuck and hit Esc, it brings up options to return, restart.....ie, you get the drill.

But, it now adds Solution, and it plays a short video of what you must do!
The point being You have to do it!!!!!! Took me 3 tries after watching the video to get past level 6, lol.

I also am having a problem with that link ZF!

After I hit the download button, it takes you to the next page to enter the security code. I enter, hit download, and takes me back saying something in red.

Do you have to be a member of this site to download?

I found a link to a site with what I believe to be the same game.

    http://downloads.zdnet.com/

    search downloads for mystery Land.

Warning: you have to register with this site, which includes more than your Email!

I used Firefox to download it, it created no shortcut, so you will have to run a search to create one.

I will go back and try it some more, but the sreen resolution size is bad, and it only plays in windowed mode.

Sorry about that folks! You all seem to be doing things correctly. It worked without a problem for me, no registration involved. So, what follows is the english site of that same site, where the downloads seem to be direct. In any event the server seems to be busy and slow a lot and the downloads can take a while to start.

    The game specifically:
    http://www.freegamearchive.com/game.php?id=4503
    http://www.freegamearchive.com/in.php?action=download&id=4503

    The arkanoids in general:
    http://www.freegamearchive.com/rub.php?idr=5&ids=11&st=0

As for the game, I'm afraid it's getting memory access violations on my dual core vista machine just like the recent giveway Arkon Toys (but worked fine on my old Win98 machine). And I should probably note for future reference that the site and it's downloads may be best suited to Freeware game junkies with some technical experience, to handle all of the website hoops to jump through and the probable lack of installers on many programs (you might have to unzip things yourself, create your own shortcuts, etc).

To make up for that trouble, here's some brick busting action that should guarantee some smiles:

    Jardinains 2: http://www.jardinains2.com/home/?page_id=2
    Jardinains: http://www.jardinains.com/faq.html

I linked deeper into those sites on purpose, so you can see who made that fun stuff (you can click into the menus for downloads). Both versions are totally free and unrestricted (100 levels and 150 levels I think), yet both versions have deluxe versions with extras available for a price if you should choose to take that route. The games are safe and loads of fun, the content of the original is actually packed into the sequel (which uses an upgraded game engine), so Jardinains 2 is all you really need, but if you have a lower end PC the original is a good choice. Although it's fairly basic old-school brick busting the gameplay is solid and the nains are hilarious.

    Best wishes!

Hi ZF, Thank you for the wonderful arkanoid site. I have been having a marvellous time downloading although because I am on dialup, I am only up to page 5. If it helps anyone, I don't know the language, but I click on the disk down the page and after I fill in their box of letters, it downloads straight away.

I have also gone through the sections at the side, looking for platform and match 3 games. Have found nary a one of match 3 games, but now have a couple of platform games.

I'm very grateful to you for the link.

Glad you like it Nola. It's a large, fine site and if you can navigate through it all you can end up with some gems not found elsewhere, in English or otherwise (and please note the mostly text-less English version of their site I linked just above).

Another killer site for such things is http://caiman.us (100% freeware) But take your time, those sites aren't going anywhere, hehe. And speaking of gems, freeware match three games (in the bejeweled sense) are slightly rare, but check out the Line Up category at Caiman! There's stuff there I haven't tried - Christmas Gems looks amazing (and while it's not match-three I must say Jooleem is an excellent game). I know BeGhouled is a match three worthy of note, yet it's nowhere near the class of the giveaways here.

That's the thing about freeware (as opposed to 'free'), the production values generally can't match that of commercial games, but often make up for it in pure gameplay and creativity, not to mention the warm and fuzzy free-ness of it all. It's humble stuff, and not much good to those who are spoiled by the glamour of the commercial offerings. And I've gotta admit that sites like GOTD are spoiling me. ;-)

As for being on-topic with Arkanoids and Breakouts:
Vyrox and LBreakout2 are freeware worthy of mention

ZF also posted a link over on the comments page that led to a great arkanoid called Pure Breaker 2 Evolution:

    http://www.bgames.org/enindex.html

    Thanks for those links.

There's also anther specialised arkanoid site called The arkanoid site (lol), though most of the games are not free:

    http://www.arkanoid.com

p.s. I'd not come across Vyrox before, so thanks for what looks like a decent game with add ons and skins as well. Also the one you posted about in the comments section plays well. Good ones thank you lots as I'm always on the look out for decent arkanoids. :)

p.p.s. just seen the links further up the page re 3D arkanoids. again thanks. I'll have to check those out tomorrow. It's approaching 4am so I'm going to bed.
