  1. Getting the same error as people who posted on the main GOTD page.

“Application failed to start because MSVCRTD.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.”

Ran install as administrator, didn't help. Changed compatibility of the program, didn't help.

    My system ...

    Vista Home Premium
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 / GPU C51 Revision A2 Technology 90nm / Memory Size 128 MB (my comp as a whole has 2 gig RAM)
    DirectX Support: 9.0c / SM3.0
Driver Version: nvlddmkm 7.15.11.6222 (ForceWare 162.22)/Vista

How about the game Arabica?? That thread went cold. Any updates??

    Thank you.

  3. So what, I've installed other progs that didn't list Vista in their requirements and they ran fine. No need to bite my head off. I was just following the posting rules ... sheesh.

sd94 i got the same popup. Not sure what i did wrong. Even after redownloading it, and reinstalling it. Same thing. And you should be ashamed VISTA SUCKS! Hahaha just kidding.

    XP RULES!

And Lee, it seems to be a widespread problem. (i use xp sp2) Just cuz someone runs Vista doesn't pin point the problem to that.

  5. sd94, no-one including me has bitten off your head, so keep your comments as such to yourself.

It quite clearly sates system requirements, so it would be savvy of you to read system requirements before installing software and games that are given away for gratis.

Some games and applications may work on Vista that were not written for Vista, that is good news for you Vista users.

.o0O(I wonder if you have read the articles where thousands of Vista users are asking, 'how does one upgrade to XP from Vista'!)

I run xp pro and have the same thing wrong with this software I feel that no one as of yet has had a chance to open this one unless they were guru's and found the dll and installed as per . the dll should be included with he soft ware, again I wait. I would suggest that the file be tested to eliminate any problem in the future , of course that is asking to much right? ,,MMMM? XP to Vista , I would think you go buy an upgrade to vista dvd and just install it as you would normaly

Thankfully Danny comment #13 in the comments section http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/agogo-dvd-copy/ gave a very simple fix. Rather than having to download the required dll from the WWW you can find an alternative dll called msvcrt.dll by creating a search using the search engine provided (via Start/search). You'll be surprised at how many of these there are on your computer. I copied one from the game Deep Quest (that was given away a short while ago) and then changed the mavcrt.dll to msvcrtd.dll then copied that into the Agogo DVD copy folder. The application then worked.

I initially tried the links that others had provided in the comments section (link provided above) but couldn't get the file to download. You do have to turn your pop up blocker off to download the file from the provided links, as well as ensure you have javascript, which because all my computers (well most) have recently been built, I haven't got around to installing javascript.

I'm sure the omission of the dll file was an oversight by the developer. I for one have no problems with glitches such as today’s problem, especially when a fix is provided by someone in the community. (see my comment above for a link to these) I see it as a learning experience.

I’m always very grateful for the software provided by the developers. When the odd one goes awry, I’m always aghast at the negative comments that ensue. Not only has this project given a lot of people software’s they would never have thought they needed (said with tongue in cheek), it's spawned a fantastic forum where community members have posted links to excellent freeware alternatives as well as many other programs. Not only that, the Freeware library, which is steadily growing, is much safer to peruse than most freeware sites I’ve ever visited, simply because there aren’t the same pressures involved. What I mean by that, is that all freeware sites I've ever visited have a multitude of links to other less savory (sometimes) sites which give the site owners income. Even with the best security, I've occasionally picked up rubbish from these sites. Thankfully the inception of the giveaway project has almost curtailed my visits to all but those recommended by people such as FreewareFan, whom I have come to trust implicitly as so far the sites he's pointed me to have been excellent and apparently safe.

    Sorry for the rant.

I had already solved the MSVCRTD.dll problem just as Whiterabbit-uk described.
My problem is that there was no activation code.
    The ZIP file contains
    readme.txt
    setup.exe

And that is all. Am I the only one with this problem?

    Posted 10 months ago #
  11. Newdog, the username/registration code is never visible as a file in the unzipped folder. It appears as a pop up box after the GAOTD activation process and after you finish running set.up

Sometimes the pop up boxes are actually pop unders, so it may be sitting behind one or more of your browser windows.

Hey WhiteWabbit, how are you doing? Just a thought - not sure it's advisable to be telling newbies that it's okay to be renaming dlls (i.e., appending the D-debug in the filename) cause as someone else pointed out, if they tinker with the wrong dll, they could have a real mess on their keyboard. (much worse than mango juice!)

I downloaded the program on 2 computers, both running Windows XP. On one computer there was no problem installing it. On the other computer I had the same problem as others had reported on here, missing the MSVCRTD.dll file. I did what Whiterabbit-uk did, I found a msvcrt.dll file on the computer and renamed it msvcrtd.dll. Then I put it in the Agogo DVD Copy folder and the application worked. Thank you Whiterabbit-uk.

The solution for finding the DLL and copying it to the folder for the Agogo program works fine. I would just recommend the initial search should be for the actual DLL needed and not one you need to change. I searched for the actual DLL and found it in the folder for ASUS PC Probe II, copied it to the Agogo folder and the problem went away. If you search for the actual DLL and find it great! If not then you can do the alternate method of searching for a similar DLL. Finding the actual DLL reduces the risk of causing problems by inadvertently renaming the wrong DLL. I hope this helps!

I downloaded and tried to install a few times with no sucess within the giveaway time, failed to start MSVCRTD.dll was not found, very disappointing for a giveaway.

  18. It was indeed one of the less noteworthy giveaways, but that's a good object lesson for Life - you usually get what you pay for.

That said, there's gold in them thar hills and something addictively fun about the hunt. Sometimes you find a gem on the giveaway page, sometimes you're standing directly under one of Freewarefan's dripping nets as he yanks the cord and dumps a ton of fresh caught scrod on your head, forcing you to pick through the tires and broken coral for a beautiful pearl. :-)

Darn, again I forget to yell PUT DOWN THE MANGO JUICE!

  21. Thanks for the Mango Juice warning RM, and nobody gets my ruby slippers.

@morrow333 - if you remembered to write down the activation code from the giveaway, you can still get a copy of the program that actually works from the Agogo website.

Or if you failed to do what BuBBy suggested, and didn't use the uninstaller to remove the program. That is manually deleted the folder, the activation code should still be in your registry. Let's hope :)

    Correct BuBBy.
The version provided on the GAOTD website today is 4.78. The one on the Agogo website is 4.79.
The only difference seems to be that version 4.79 has the "dll" issue removed (this explaining the +0.01 ? :-).
The provided data [license name & registration code] does work with it. I actually installed this version directly this way.

However no possibility for me to run the version 4.78 once installed, even when adding the dll file downloaded from the "several times mentioned" website (not a good file regarding my own OS - or similar message, don't remember exactly).
With 4.79 installed, no "MSVCRTD.dll" file sited in the 'Agogo DVD Copy' folder, or in the OS's 'system/system32' sub-folders either.

Uninstalling it for some reason I had an error with "pcouffin.inf" file sited in the 'Documents and Setting\Owner\Application Data\' folder - I had to end the "PcSetup.exe" process from the Task Manager so that the uninstalling procedure can go on and finish itself.
To my knowledge the registry entries with license name and registration code were removed then.

Following Whiterabbit's suggestion above I don't see why it wouldn't be alright to go from version 4.78 to 4.79 if one has not kept the data upon installing the software.

And I just want to add that the french translation is terrible for the eyes :|
