FREE version of both programs is more than enough to get back lost files…

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Bplan-Data-Recovery-Software.shtml

And if you are not happy with them switch to PURAN FILE RECOVERY, my first personal choice!

Otherwise try to help me find better FREE alternatives rather than moaning!

Came to GOTD and saw this program and I had a bad flash. Its been bad for about a year now. Downloaded Flash Drive Recovery. After install publisher tries to sell you other programs at a big discount. By passing all that, put the flash drive in and let Flash Drive Recovery run. 10 hours later it found nothing. Came back to GOTD to write this review. To me this program is worthless. Asking myself are they giving away bad program to sell me on the publishers other programs?

@12 mike

Thanks! Tried all my cams, they were too old besides one which couldn't do it. I'll try all my hardware (low level format was relatively fast with USB2/3 but 16 GB cost many hours with USB 1) and perhaps even a Linux Puppy Live CD I am using instead of Windows XP for internet. You inspired my thinking process! Somewhere somebody recommended Canon cams for formatting, but those aren't available around me. That has been the only successful strategy mentioned in internet so far.

Installed and registered this program. I inserted two USB flash drives and expected something to happen. Result: after about 15 minutes of waiting, neither drive was discovered or scanned, and no files were detected. What is the use of this program? I uninstalled it.

It's a really very bad program.
-very unstable
-does not recover properly, does not recover anything
-window-size is fixed and small
-writes data back to the media, absolutely no-go

call it Alpha 0.3 not a functional program

To Giovanni: Icare-Recovery and Bplandatarecovery are not free they are limited programs, or trial base etc... to get the full results you have to purchase them for a whopping $69.00 I normally get all your free alternatives because you are so reliable. I won't give you a bad judgment on this situation, because most of the time you have excellent alternatives and most times I use those instead of the Gaotd that has been offered. so maybe next time. since you have not tested this program for USB drive I won't download this program with most people saying it crashed and they uninstalled via reboot.

#6: "Does anybody know a software for making a SD card writeable again falsely telling it’s hardware write protected (result of trying to get rid again of a chinese TV’s special fast format, allowing Windows checkdisk). Even tried low level format with HDD Low Level Format Tool 4.30 Portable “HDDLLF.4.30″ which only seemed to help. But after inserting again all newly written files were lost again. Some people tell that hardware is lost forever. "

Manufacturers of USB sticks often have special software for that sort of thing -- you may only get it when you talk to them for an RMA. I'm not at all sure if SD card makers have something similar or not. I do know that the USB circuitry varies by brand/model of PC/laptop motherboard, & the same for card readers [e.g. some will not read every card]. When a USB stick gives you a problem the 1st thing you're told [or will read] is to try it on every PC/laptop you can get your hands on -- I can't see it doing any harm to try using different card readers on different PCs/laptops, & maybe trying a format in any cameras you have access to, as their firmware & absence of Windows may force something you can't with a PC [the same would probably hold true for anything you have that accepts an SD card].

Puran File Recovery (not batch fix) is the only FREEWARE I tried that was able to recover all my files on a raw USB drive...

Loaded and registered easily. System: Win7 32bit pro I7processor. Hangs when trying to scan, then crashes. Not up to the usual GAOTD standard and almost as if it hasn't even been tested before release.

This GAOTD looks like a pretty decent USB data recovery tool, even though I still didn’t verify if it’s really able to recover files even from a re-formatted or raw USB Drive.

Did anyone here check it out?

If the answer is NOPE, then you'd better switch to FREEWARE tools like these:

Enjoy!

http://www.softorbits.com/flash-drive-recovery/ says:
"What customers are saying about SoftOrbits Flash Recovery
Jane Skinner
I found your programme -searching the web.....most others were almost twice the price of yours...so I chose yours as it was the cheapest & works fine, So I can still use my Nikon digital camera with compact flash card....which is over 12 years old & funtioning fine!!!
Thank you"

In specifications SoftOrbits should mention that this software helps using very old digicams again or otherwise they shouldn't dare publishing alike. Very informative comments!

Free "PC Inspector Smart Recovery 4.5" from British Convar recovery specialists has recovered photos and videos on a transportation USB stick when Windows somehow managed to copy them secretly with errors to my HD. Some videos were lost and couldn't be recovered with any other program at this time available for me. But that depends on degree of fragmentation.

http://www.pcinspector.de/Default.htm?language=1
for freewares PC INSPECTOR™ File Recovery 4.x, PC INSPECTOR™ Smart Recovery 4.5, etc. They never crashed when I used them (very rarely indeed as with any of this kind). As far as I remember they are portable but you have to run them as administrator!

My advice:
1 For "valuable" files copy the folder with a program like free fastcopy which allows "verify" (please activate this option!). And erase files on flash medium afterwards. Also useful: Dual-panel "FreeCommander XE 2014 Portable" can compare (and synchronize) different folders!
2 If possible always erase all files on the flash medium, not only single files. New files then will be stored in linear order (medium undefragmented) and easyly recoverable. Don't defragment flash media as this will wear them out!

Unfortunately (or fortunately), I have no flash drive damaged enough to be recovered (yes I have one, but it is surely dead and unrecoverable). So I can not test this program. But I admit that this program can recognize a lot of formats, restoring RAW images may be very useful for photo enthusiasts! I think that this is a good program, I will install it, but I hope that I shell never use it!

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system.

A Russian company with address, phone&fax.

By focusing on a several products, directing our efforts towards its development and support, and minimizing corporate overhead, we deliver maximum value to our customers A little bit of everything: from "Advanced Woman Calendar" over "Icon Maker" to "SoftSkin Photo Makeup".

This is version 3.0, version 2.1 was given on November 29, 2013 and version 2.0 on Ver2.0 on November 16, 2012.

Here is the old review
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/flash-recovery-2-0/

A small not resizable window opens. This is "really" a flash drive recovery program. It will not detect any other drive, than a flash drive...

I put a small 4Gb USB 2.0 FAT32 key in the USB port and let scan the drive. I have formatted the drive before.

The program scanned about 5 minutes and returned with a blank list of files. It simply did not find anything. Okay - next test...

A 8 GB USB 2.9 FAT32 key with existing directory structure and existing files, where I have deleted some files...

The program scanned for 8 minutes and then ... crashed. Okay this can happen - started again (sometimes I am patient - or better, I want to be fair).

After about the same time, the program crashed again without additioan information.

Useless! Uninstalled via reboot. Wasted half an hour...

Installed and registered without any problems, and that was as good as it got!
On opening was presented with a friendly interface simply few mouse moves can finish all the process. Scanned my flash drive and found a lot of old photos.
