Hmm, a lot of thumbs down but few, if any, negative comments. Any idea how this compares to Recuva by Piriform?

@Marin Tel - Never, NEVER have more than one firewall installed on the same computer ;-)

You can have firewalls installed how much you like - but only one should be enable...

Useful recovery application, but I found it bit pricy…Why people will purchase such costly app if they already have bundles of free recovery utility in front of them….Well, thanks to GAOTD guys for giving one free recovery app in between. I needed it, because yesterday only I deleted few of my important doc’s…

Yesterday’s discussion on today’s post….LOL….Advice to @ Karl please don’t extend old discussions on new post GAOTD users might get confuse. Before downloading the product everyone prefers to read the reviews related the product, if discussion will go like this users will find no reviews on present day product.

Novice here. Can someone please advise whether Private Firewall is equal or better than a paid for Norton 360 and if installed would clash with

or complement protection?. In my limited experience McAfee conflicted with Norton if both were installed. Thanks

A real evergreen from this Russian company!

We had the version Easy File Undelete 3.0 on September 30, 2014:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/easy-file-undelete-30/

and on March 6, 2014:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/easy-file-undelete-3-0/

No new test from my side.

To answer a question from yesterday:
Yes, I use Private Firewall. A lightweight, solid working interface to the build in Windows firewall. Freeware.

I use Private Firewall too, but I wish its development hadn't discontinued. Is it still secure?

@ GP

Don't worry. I prefer a since years stable software over version 17.64.03a beta II. IMHO it is the best firewall (paid and free), and I think I have had nearly all existing firewalls. The longest time (yes I've paid all the fees for many years) the Agnitum Outpost firewall. Among the other firewalls Comodo belonged to the worst. Don't know how it is today.

To the firewall itself. Private firewall is nothing else than an interface to the (at least in Win 7&8 excellent) Windows build in firewall. There is nearly no overhead. It works since I installed it in 2012? without any problems, without letting a single program unregognized, no single attempt to do something not allowed slips through.

Greetings from a sunny Germany
Karl

Just so GOTDers on here don't get confused over Karl's reference to 17.64.93a beta II . . . as far as I'm aware, Private Firewall continues on and remains at the top of techsupportalert's definitive list. I wasn't aware the product had been discontinued / was no longer being developed. The developer's website has version 9.0.333.0 here:

So I take it Private Firewall is somewhat like Sphinx-soft's Windows Firewall Control, which I use the free version of? (I'm also on an old one BTW, although as the Windows Firewall does the heavy lifting I'm not fussed - plus Firewalls tend not to need updating like AV software and if they are good they are good - I used Sygate Pro for years after it was discontinued.)

I've used Comodo for around 4 years and haven't had a single issue with their firewall, or the entire protection suite. It's let me set up advanced outbound rules for some programs that I don't care for a constant update reminder.

Maybe I'm stupid but I could not find a later version than 7.0.30.3

I've been using Windows Firewall Control (from SphinxSoftware) for years now - it was free and really works reliably!
In addition, it didn't leave a big footprint on harddisk or RAM. I can recommend it.

@ bin

Not stupid. That is the last version, released at the end of 2013. The properties of the installer shows File version of 9.0.333.0 and Product version 7.0.30.3.

I didn't know it was an interface for Windows Firewall. Thanks, Karl, for that information.
