I may get a ton of negatives for this but I have to ask: Where do all the excellent reviewers go to? Most recent to disappear is Karl, before him we also had Giovanni, and before them, we gad the wonderful Ashraf (I know there were others over the last few years.) I'm not an IT expert, so it is important to have the impartial opinion of someone we could trust. And while a given software is free for the 1 day, sometimes people miss it and like to see the list of free alternatives. I love Giveaway of the day, but I need the independent reviewers! Do I decide to download based on their opinion alone - No, many times I have gone against their recommendation, but I still valued their opinion. Are they being banned or scared off? Do they just walk away because of all the negative comments? Does anyone know?

I suspect that in time, they become frustrated at receiving so little reward (positive feedback) after putting forth so much effort. Few show them any gratitude, and some even disagree with their opinions. It's easy to understand why this would wear on them after a while. (And I also suspect they are still around, but "incognito.")

I agree, also I think the redesign of the site may have drove some away. At least it has made me less of a user, I liked the old style. It seemed easier to read the reviews.

How do you register for free? What am I missing?

Reply   |   Comment by Dennis  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

Dennis The Activate.exe within the zipfile does that part. (On Vista and later, that program requires being run as administrator because to register today's giveaway, it needs to create registry entries for a different program name, something normally forbidden by these "newer" versions of Windows.)

In the case of today's giveaway, Setup.exe represents the shareware version, Activate.exe registers it.

Do you need a driver update?

If you have a hardware device that isn’t working properly with your computer, it can be very helpful to update the driver. When suddenly you cannot hear any sound from the computer, or your ethernet connection drops occasionally, or your printer’s not printing properly, you may consider a drive update. In most hardware not working cases, say if you cannot connect your Android phone/tablet to the computer or your laptop cannot get access to WIFI, one of the first troubleshooting steps you should take is to update the driver, since these issues may be fixed in a new update.

You may hear of the golden role for updating drives: “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It”. But things are not always 100% believed to absolute in all situations. Video drivers are updated more often with big performance increases, especially in new games while other drives are updated for bugs. To eke out every tiny bit of performance out of your system, you should make sure that your video card drivers are updated and up to date.

These kind of software should check outdated drivers and should offer to update them, but they shouldn't create incompatibilities.
They are only useful to check if there are updates, but I think it's better to use device manager and Intel Driver Update Utility to update drivers (in fact, they found nothing).

right click the activator app, and run as administrator. that usually takes care of problems with 32 bit apps running in a 64 bit environment...

Thanks a lot for your time, i installed it and before the first run i right-clicked the activator and "run as admin" to make sure it will run.
But i see for a few secs the load circle and then nothing..
Not responding at all.I also reinstalled the programm after restarting my pc, and repeat the process but nothing again..I suspected the antivirus or something similar that stops the proccess.I disabled the av during the installation, but the problem still remains.
I posted here if anyone else has the same problem as i ran the programm in trial version and took all the backup..If you have any further idea i would appreciate..

To save others the couple of minutes research, this is the same release as the November 26, 2015 GOTD offering.

On their website, the same package (v4.8) is downloadable with a release date of November 14th, 2015.

So if you got it last November, you are current and there are no new updates.
