Installed but would not run. Task manager shows it is running with 10k plus in memory usage but it doesn't open into the foreground. Have no idea why - many much more memory intensive programs do open. Consequently, there was no way to register it before expiry date, and no way to test it.

Given the glowing reviews some other posters gage it, I am quite disappointed.

@75: I totally agree with you, after install this software, it destroy all my sound driver and network driver. Fortunately I had a system restore point, or else I'll be pissed to hell!

Warning: while running the find duplicates function this program overwrote critical windows files and now, even with recovery and repair discs Windows won't open. I guess this program destroyed years of work on my hard drive. Fortunately I had a hard drive laying around with Windows on it.
By the time I got up and running again it was probably too late to warn most of you.

Did you tried to use Portabilizer to make it portable?

Well I installed it (32bit) about an 0.5 hours before the promotion expired but I keep getting this CODE:

"Unable to complete the product registration procedure.
The specified unlock key is invalid (ERR:102)"

Cannot connect to the license server. Then checked update. It can connect to a whatever update server, anyway.

I still can't register. Unable to validate the specified unlock key

Have emailed the site suport but no reply yet.

Love it. Among other things, it has features Windows 7 Explorer lacks. Thank you Flexense and GAOTD.

I use a program called "Everything" by voidtools. If you have a file name ( or even a partial name ) it will be quickly located. Also, several drives may be indexed.
Rename your problem causing file and make a note of where it is located. You might need to replace it.

This programe beats alot of similar programes available that does the same job as it is quicker and simpler to use.
Being interested in analysis and detection work I find this invaluable and at the same time fascinating. At the moment I am having a clear out to save disc space and this programe has saved me both time and money, as buying space on external devices can be expensive.

Set It to 32 Threads and scanned all local drives 4.7TB in 12 m 32 s, A much nicer way to handle the drives than explorer.exe, I just wonder if You could replace & set to auto load DiskBossProx64 instead? Nice utility - can't seem to get it registered though. Ran it in administrator mode (just in case) - cannot contact the license server. Even changed the proxy settings from auto-detect to direct-connect.

The program does seem nice but is clearly missing in the pro version the rule based file management utilities. Comment 12 by John was right on target. And 125$ is just too much to pay to get that useful feature. Despite its dated interface, I feel that Directory Report at File-utilities.com is a better and more practical value for a multipurpose file utility. Add Robobasket for the rule based file management. Actually, robobasket ( at http://robobasket.com $20) might be all many users need in addition to the utilities they already have. And remember Glary utilities for free has many functions including a powerful duplicate file finder - just change the defaults before doing duplicate searches to achieve very good results. I didn't pay $125 for windows 7 and it can create drive images and full backups in addition to all of its other functions. Granted at $125 the rule based program is targeted toward network administrators, but rule based management was mentioned as a GAOTD feature and it is not in the pro version.

I wanted to download and run this program to see for myself what it can do. After doing just that, I ran the duplicate file finder and noticed I seem to get alot of errors.

Plus many many more errors, Maybe this is something that the programmers may want to address. So this got a thumbs down from me and was taken off my system, cant see having a program that cant fix these errors running and taking up space on my computer when I can get ones that do work, and perform better.

Hi, had a look at the website and cannot tell if the DiskSort program functions are part of DiskBoss.

Program is a keeper. Excellent architecture and very rich as compared to Win Explorer. Developer should be rewarded with some sales for extended products per high quality of this product. GAOTD is to be commended for this snag. You will like it so go ahead and install it.

Not bad program, but i was expecting more.
Functions:
Search, Sync, Analyze, Classify, Duplicates, Cleanup.
Seach- nice search engine with optional multiple criteria. Good if You are not searching for media files, because u cannot switch to thumbs 6/10 from me.
sync- exellent tool for syncing backup. It has perfectly explained functions so 10/10 from me.
Analyze- not bad, but lack of "windirstat" look makes it useless for me. 4/10 here.
Classify- sorry but i don't have practical use for it so no points here
Duplicates- Again, no thumbs, but without it its still useful. 6/10
Cleanup- Interesting, that u may securely wipe your junk files. The bad thing is that its lacking excellence of ccleaner for example. It mi

plain & (again for me) not easily readable or interpretable.
IOW, i cannot glance at it & have a clear feel, for anything.


analyse directories:
runs speedily, but only lists 1 directory level
now you can jump to a lower level directory, but then you cannot see the parent without jumping back up
IOW, it does not give you an expandable tree layout like you can get with TreeSize

broken down by various "file categories", but not of particular interest or usage (for me)
allows you to visualize it in a Chart, & i actually like that better

& then you can "classify" stuff, & again i'm not sure what it is doing for me?


search for dups:
preselects & sets 1 of the files as "locked", IOW that you cannot delete all the files from a set.
but what if you DID want to do do that? & it gives you no options as to which one it chooses to lock.
sort is in size order, descending, otherwise cannot sort by any method.

I can't get the installer to work, it gives me an error "NSIS Error: Error launching installer" --- anyone else? Ideas? I tried turning my firewall off, no luck.

Installed fine on Win 7/64. Registered fine using the register button in the About section of the program. I didn't have to use the manual register like others who have posted. Possible that the site was overwhelmed with people registering at the same time perhaps?

I played around with some of the functions, and they worked very well. One thing I would have liked though, would be to see the actual duplicates and not just the location of them, but all in all, it worked perfectly!

@ CJCotter: I also save readme.txt files, but I change the name of the file and add the name of the program it belongs to, to the file name. This makes it easier for me to distinguish which readme goes with which program, and then won't be considered a repeat anyways. Just a suggestion for you.

I sometimes hesitate to give a testimony for a product if it is not the exact thing that is being sold on the publishers website. To me, giving such a testimony would be misleading if the publisher ever used it on their website. So, for this 'GOTD version of DiscBoss Pro' I give it a thumbs up! I just wish I knew if it was the exact program as they are selling or not. Just food for thought for software publishers.

Installed and registered just fine on XP3.
Ran a scan and it showed the number and size for each file extension.
It gave me a pie chart of the data.
Now what?

Registered after a clean install on Win 7 64 bit easily. Clear dialog with all of Win 7's explorer options plus many new options normally found in other Win 7 programs if you know where to look. Speed and file utilization stats quickly. The pause option allows other programs to run if necessary. Opens files in registered programs associated with the extensions.

Downloaded and installed on a Boot Camp partition being run by Parallels 6 on Mac OS 10.6.8.

No problems installing or registering.

I downloaded registered, installed and ran it.

Ran the file duplication routine, which reported, among other things:

391 copies of a flle at:

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB959772_WM11$\spuninst\updspapi.dll

and 392 copies of a file at:

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB959772_WM11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

Tween the two of them they used up over 200 MB of space.

"spuninst\updspapi.dll" looked suspicious to me so did the fact that there were over 300 copies of it.

So I Googled the string and found references to that path/file here:

Windows Vista 64-bit SP2

Downloaded and installed with zero problems.
Easy update once I woke up enough to see the red letters in the upper right corner. (can register in your own name or handle)
I did several operations and the program is fantastic!!
Looked for duplicate files and selected full name filter, absolutely no duplicates under that rule! ( this is the only program I have used that has given me this results)

Diffidently a keeper and highly recommend.

I attempted to install this but it would not complete because it "detected" an installation of DiskBossPro 1.2.16 (which I could not find anywhere on my computer).

I'm wondering if there's a .dll file "left over" from an installation of the earlier DiskBossPro that I need to delete.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I could find/delete whatever files are keeping me from installing this newer version? Thanks in advance.

After some inner conflict, I acquiesced to this download, due mainly to the excellent documentation provided by the developer. Much intelligent thought - and a lot of obvious work - went into creating this total package. Very fast download without any problems... tried it out and the functions tested/worked fine. Of course, I will be going through the DiskBoss Manual for assistance with some of its features, but, basically, I'm real impressed. I'll be looking into this company for further applications. This may be one of the best GAOTD offerings. Thank you, GAOTD and DiskBoss!

This program is absolutely awesome, it has a nice minimal interface. DiskBoss Pro has decent set of useful features without making the program bloated. It is only 5.9 MB's is size, and best of all it does not hog resources by running at all times in the system tray.

I recommend you pick this awesome program up, it is very polished and comprehensive. No bloatware here, thanks GAOTD.

It apparently uses an http proxy for registration, so I had to make some temporary firewall changes before it would work. Those who have commented that it wouldn't register may need to look into doing something similar.

Amazing proportion of positive comments on this one. Either it's very good or else commenters are going overboard the opposite of usual. If it is not as good as indicated, I'll comment again after a full test, but so far it does not seem to be making liars out of anybody (yet?).
P.S.--I had a little trouble finding registration procedure, so for anyone who needs it, too, look under the Help menu on top line, not the Help icon which merely takes you to their online help pages; then click on the About selection and look down.

This utility is very powerful and also quite useful. It is well engineered and surprisingly (for a GOTD giveaway) it is NOT a rehash of common functionality found 1000 other places. Thank you.

ric... the +, - at the end of the messages has nothing to do with the software. It only evaluates whether or not one found the "comment" useful. Most of the minuses I give are because the commenter can't spell correctly or even use correct syntax in a sentence. That's enough right there to earn a minus from me.

Just because the files have the same name does not mean they are considered duplicates, the content is also tested to see if that is the same.
This is normally done with something similar to a hash, a slow process, hence the length of time it takes to find duplicates.

Installed the 64bit version on Win 7 Ult 64bit. Went into help/about and hit the register key to add the code from the readme file.
Installed and registered fine. Turned off the option to automatically update. Did not see a check box to turn off the installation of a toolbar???

Can someone please explain what the over 45 000 duplicate files are.

I already have this program and just updated to version 2 a couple of days ago. It's worked well for me. I use the file synchronization feature often. This an excellent giveaway choice.

Find the feature set in "Pro" impressive. $25 for this is well worth it! However the price for "Ultimate" seems excessive at $125, one hundred dollars more, for just a few more features???

Pro has a 5000 file search limit. Why not unlimited? Duplicate file finder seems unlimited.

I am amazed to see that nobody has complained that there is an alternative free utility yet.

Diskboss installed & registered on this 64 bit PC without any problems. A portable version would be perfect.

Please be aware that Diskboss provides some very powerful options, the duplicate file finder will display duplicates that in many cases is required. The duplicate may be a different version that should not be changed for it's parent app. An example might be Nero needs version 4.4.18.125 of ncc.dll but another application would need to use version 4.3.21.128. Deleting either one would break your application which would then require that you reinstall it.

You should backup your computer before making seemingly small changes.

I run dual-monitors, and when I first ran the software, it opened up right in between them, not a good first start, but I moved the window, closed & re-opened the software and it opened where I left it, which is nice.

Otherwise this software looks quite useful. I don't have much time to play with it today, but from all the comments I was able to read, I can't wait!!!
