I don't really like these sort of Desktop apps so much... prefer the online to do lists.... I do like the idea of a daily to do list though, but there are many good online to dos that offer day-based to-do lists. There are tons of good online ones, but I guess it can't hurt to give my personal suggestion (and u might find something that u like better but I like this one)...It is really simple though, so I'd really call it more of to do checklist (ZoToDo.com) than a full fledged manager... but try it out

But, yeah, cool app, I just wish there were some online aspect, so I could say check it somewhere other than home.

#64 If you will go back and look, They are doing technical maintenance today and there is no free software offered until tomorrow. There is a free game being offered tho. I couldn't get the ToDo List registered anyway, kept saying the code entered wasnt the right length to copy and paste exactly as it was but I already had so I dont know what was up with that. However after reading through these comments and checking out other free programs suggested by others I found a good one that I like. So all is good. Thanks for the effort anyway GOTD, can't wait to see what you have to offer tomorrow.

Since I didn't try the program it is neither + or -.

Read the website!!!
http://www.dextronet.com/gotd/dtdl.php if you actually read the thing, the email address is for the newsletter and will also send you an email with the reg key. But, if you read a bit below that, it will tell you the reg name and key. Thats all you need. No waiting for email, no email blocking, no email at all in fact.

Yes, it looks like Hotmail postmaster blocks our emails for some reason. Please use another email address. I am sorry for the trouble.

I've put the serial code directly to the page and it will be there for another 24 hours so everyone can activate their copy.

This is a good, simple program, but there are others out there that are hidden gems.

To Kyle (#43) and anyone else who wants a full desk suite of organizational material: calendar, to do list, contacts,m etc etc:

Go to the Palm site, and download Palm Desktop 4.1.4. It's free - always - and you DON'T need to own a palm to use it - all info is stored locally, and it's more robust than a LOT of offered software. GAOTD has some wonderful items, but the Palm Desktop is one of the hidden freeware gems available. It does everything you need, and is graphically simple yet incredibly effective.

Good software.
My software serial number hasn't been e-mailed yet and I have been
waiting well over 1 hour. Maybe this will be like the Smart TO-Do giveaway a few days ago when the serial number came really early the next morning at 4:00 A.M, has anyone else not yet received their serial number?

STILL NO REGISTRATION CODE! and it is over 14 hours after my first attempts.

#16 Follow usual registration methods - read the text file embedded in the zip file.

Steve, To bad you are totally clueless and provided NO helpful information. I have been visiting this site almost from its inception. If YOU "read the text file embedded in the zip file" you will see that it says "Unzip the package you`ve downloaded and install the software,
then register your free copy here http://www.dextronet.com/gotd/dtdl.php)".

I entered my email address at this site using both my Firefox and IE browsers and have NOT received a reply. It is NOW 12 hours later and I still have received NOTHING to register this new software.

Number 35 - Devin, says the Hotmail account may be the problem. I use HOTMAIL! I have NO ISP email account.

GIVEAWAYOFTHEDAY - Is the problem that you are not allowed to use the hotmail account? Should you not state that in the instructions so that people like me will not have to waste our time trying to get something to work when it will NOT work for us because we are locked out of it?

DEXTRONET - If we are not allowed to use the hotmail should you not say something on your website?. I would like to try your software.

And yes I have checked my junk box.

I just want to know why the first few comments are always complimentry? Seems a little contrived to me.
I think this software is the same as a million other free 'to-do-list' applications. At $24.95, it is just as well that it is free today as I don't think it is worth the asking price.

I'm pretty much in agreement with #17. I WAS happy to grab yesterday's, though, so i'm thankful. (dozed off - woke up about five minutes before cutoff instead of five minutes after - woo-hoo! I couldn't miss it after the RAVE review by BT.)

the whining wasn't bad today - NICE. I'd found other software giveaway sites, but GotD has the best selection and most useful software, overall - and some of the least grateful users.

To #43/Kyle: Rainlendar will do everything that you stated. Resource hog is a relative thing. I installed it and it uses 19MB of RAM while it is running. I've tried DeskTask and it takes up only 9MB (but no month view)

I've decided on a combination of Yahoo! Widgets and DeskTask. (Mostly because I use Outlook for calendaring and only the for-pay Rainlendar Pro will display Outlook information.

I've quickly found that even if the application being offered isn't the "best of breed" or even a high-quality effort, the discussions about it always reveal excellent alternatives.

Can someone help me. I am looking for a similar program but have very specific needs.

1. not an online calendar like google calendar - i want my stuff stored locally, i don't trust my data on someone else's server.
2. I NEED a MONTHLY calendar to show on the desktop, constantly.
3. i also need to do lists
4. Hopefully won't be too much of a resource hog

Here are some that I have heard of:

Google Calender (online = no way)
Task Coach
Chaos Manager
rainlendar
DeskTask
ToDoList
Swift To-Do List
CuteReminder
Easy To-Do from Xanadu Tools

From what I can tell none of these meets my criteria above. If I am wrong someone please correct me. I would rather not install all of these to see if they work. Also I have found that info/descriptions and screenshots of these programs to be seriously lacking so that I cannot tell if it meets my needs.

It's simple, but very useful for personal use. I have used for some minutes now, and it's fine for my needs. And because it is simple it is good for me (I'm not a business person, or somebody that have several clients). Don't know if I'd pay $24, though.

Rather late in reporting my thoughts on the s/w but have used it for a few hours now. Going on Bladedtoth's review/s which are very informative and welcome for novice users like me - I think this is a basic enough application for a light user's needs, So thanks to Dextrone & GAOTD. It's ideal for me but $ 25/- I don't know!!!!

the best app on the scene is "TodoList" from abstractspoon
it is designed just for project managements, and also can be used for private todo lists
what i didnt like in today's app:
- can't be used standalone - only needs to be installed, what i dont like! you cant use it on your memory stick
- very-very few options on the task
- can't do hierarchical lists, only one-by-one
this is in few words. i've tried so many todo applications on my compuer, so i can tell you even by the first look which one will work best for this task.
anyway, thanx for the nice try, Dextronet
and thanx gaotd, as always

To #33 (Dextronet): I will mention that I did assume it'd work in the first place. However, when I was messing with it, I noticed when you used the menu option to do the same from previous days (I put one back 3 days,) it only brought up the tasks from the previous day and nothing before that. So what I did was set some for that day, closed the application fully (Including task tray,) set my clock ahead three days (Simulating a weekend.) Reopening the application, it only displayed today's files. I then tried a reboot situation where the app shut down with the program, I changed the BIOS clock ahead three days and opened the application, to no avail. I do not know if it is a bug or what happened, but for me it exists.

As mentioned on my forums, 15-Minute Reviews are a focus on the application for 15-Minutes. Usually takes me an hour to fully complete a review, including additional testing time such as this here to try to ensure the accuracy of my negative claims. I feel that all applications have the chance to shine given the right amount of effort. Some just need a little more direction, and I feel that your efforts may be more into your higher quality product, which is fine.

If you'd like to talk more about the review, drop by my forums, sign up and start a thread. I'll contact you via email if you'd like. I have no issues giving you a re-review at a future point in time as well (This goes with my feelings that applications can be good if given time to mature.) I also wouldn't mind providing you a private review of Swift To-Do List either, if you'd like.

Somewhat interesting but if you already have MS Outlook (which you would have if you're using a PC), why would you need a separate TO DO list? If it's a matter of having your TO Do list constantly on your dekstop, that's not possible since when you open a window, it's going to cover the desktop anyway. Unless, there's a setting that allows the To Do list to be always on top. Otherwise, just alt-tab to go to your constantly open MS outlook calendar to see ur TO DO list for the day.

Miko,

You can move tasks to any day, just select them, right click them, and select "Move Task(s) To Day...".

----

Also, if you do not run the program for a few days (or a month, or a year..)), it will automatically get the tasks from all the previous days, including the recurrent ones. The review is wrong in this.

I need something like this to jot down brainstorms & tasks. With luck most tasks get done in one day but the brainstorms (which are VERY important!) can drag on for years. This program can only get unfinished tasks from the day before and they can't be dragged to a specific date down the road so I'll keep looking. Thanks BladedToth for the review, and GAOTD for this service.

Good morning everyone! ;)

Thanks to #29 BladedThoth's in depth review of the software, I know that this is definitely not what I need in a to-do list. It doesn't cover the functionality that I need in such a program, plus its interface would annoy me no end.

I know that there are even better freeware programs, but quite honestly I've been waiting for such a program to show up here, hoping that a commercial product might even be better - I guess I have my answer thanks to Andrew.

Thanks go to Dextronet for today's offer, even if it is a sub-standard piece of software. We do appreciate you being here with us and I hope that we'll have the opportunity to test drive your other more superior product that does the same thing - Swift To-Do List.

It's beyond me though how you expect people to pay for Daily To-Do List, when you have a much better product to sell also. Or perhaps it was the 'hook' you needed to get everyone to your website - I really don't know.

I would like to see your other product Fast Pasteoffered here for review. It seems a great tool for many people, including me. :)

Thank you GOTD for all that you do to make this initiative work, I'm sure that there are many of us who are always grateful.

Kind of a repeat, but Sunday's offering is better. I have Dextronets Swift To Do on my computer, but only the Light Version. Due to it being Lite and having restrictions, I stopped using it regularily. The Swift To Do is basically a more powerful version to today's, hence even a full version of today's offering is more a downgrade.
In any case the forum brought out better and free choices. My pick: To Do List from Abstract Spoon. Has a tree structure, let's you move the tasks around with Drag and Drop. Priorities are color coded as well as numbered, configuration galore, but still easy to use. Maximize the window and an bunch of additional fields a lot of people might not want to use, disappear from sight.

Pura Vida!
