Thanks to Boxoft Co + GOTD.
The Boxoft screen recorder is very basic. It lacks features.
For example, it cannot do variable selectable region scroll capture to PDF.

I got lots of screen recorders.

The undefeated champion of screen recorders for general use is SnagIt.
Which I paid to buy from a software retail shop.

The king of serious screen recorders for high quality video output is Camtasia (I got that too). They are both from the same company Techsmith.

Sorry. But ya'll know what - i realize i may have to clarify since some of you read with ***************

"mike" is a solid contributor and should not be classified as an "addition to the the [sic] King". Just as i am not a subtraction per se to Goiv - he/she stands quite firmly without my help.

Why is everyone so egomaniacal that they MUST see their names in print???? By the 4th comment someone figured out that "grad" meant "grab, yet 17 of the 41 (so far) comments hammer on that silly typo. Are you all too lazy to read and see that this has been beaten to death? Move on! Get over it. You look pretty stupid being the 14th person, all in print, who suddenly realized what was meant, and you acted like a bolt of lightning came down and gave you this mystical answer that no one else could figure out. Any of YOU ever make a typo???? Comment about the program, good, bad or indifferent, but stop harping on the typo that everybody and his brother have recognized & mentally corrected since early today!

Giovanni was a little too quick on the draw.

...then look no further and install a magic FREE tool called “VSO Downloader”. As you can see from the link below...

Yeah it is free to a "degree".

http://www.vso-software.fr/products/downloader/vso-downloader.php?ap=avangate&aid=700

While we are happy to offer the software for free, some options are only available if you buy a license for the Ultimate version.

Ultimate version Features:

- No limitation for advanced protocols, inlcuding RTMP
- Record online radios
- No file size limit for stream recorder
- Convert to various video formats (trial includes watermark)
- Convert to high quality MP3 format
- Get priority support

So you need the "Ultimate" varsion just to download a streaming video. I don't call that FREE!

I frequently find better programs than the ones offered on GOTD by reading people's comments. Today is one of those days.

I want to thank Arnie for mentioning the APowersoft program. I've tried at least ten different screen recording programs and haven't been able to get them to work correctly on my Dell Inspiron 17 laptop. I've never known why - must be some sort of driver or hardware conflict. The APower program is the first that worked right from the first attempt. And it's intuitive: I didn't have to even look at the manual to get going with the program. So a big thanks to you Arnie, and all others who submit comments from their own personal experience.

The most exciting aspect of this program and the most written about is the meaning of the word “grad” and that's because it appears to be as featureless as the Sahara desert, $27 !!!!.
I'm wondering if there was anything to compare it with so I decide to see what freeware was available via Ashraf #1, what a good move.
He recommends:-
http://atomisystems.com/activepresenter/

It can only be described as spectacular, I love writing software and I would have been very proud to have written this program.
It is full of really clever features that make your video presentations so much more useful, I can't go into them here they are too numerous to mention.

To give you an idea of just how versatile and good it is, I installed it, ran it and without any need of configuration recorded an on-screen TV video program with audio at 24 frames per second, few dedicated video capture programs can even compare with it.

ActivePresenter
My advice is don't waste your time with any other program it is just mind blowing.

Installed fine on a Windows 8 machine. It apparently has some issues with dual monitor displays. I also get the "Invalid Device ID" error. I had only recently recorded audio on this machine with another app successfully. Choosing to record as MPEG, I stopped playback, and chose the option to play the file. I received a "file in use" error.

I closed the app, and still received the "in use" error. I was unable to relaunch the app, but I suspect I'd be able to do so after a reboot. Seems the app didn't close correctly.

A) y'all are way too obsessed with a simple typo. Nuff said
B) I tried it, it's ok for a simple user, but I too could not get the audio record to work off the sound card, just with a mic, which is not acceptable quality.

Free or shareware alternatives are better..I use an unregistered shareware of Bandicam and it records very well, and the watermark is at the top of the frame so it doesn't really interfere with what you record.

Giovanni recommends dscaler4 to calibrate your video capture card to create a high quality video output. How can he recommend this to us? Before installing it, it issues a list of severe warnings printed in red lettering, that your hardware can be permanently damaged if the wrong choices are made; that it is prone to crashing under certain circumstances; and that the program has major issues that have yet to be fixed.

C’mon Giovanni, what are you trying to do to us?

Use your brain instead of your mouth - think about what type of software it is, and realise it is a simple 'typo' - the word should probably be 'grab' and yes, I'd rather have an accidental typo than deliberate 'slaughtered English' such as "gotta" - thank you very much.

I don't have a use for this type of programme but thanks to Boxoft and GAOTD for making it available.

Installed program on XPsp3 on a fairly old computer and had a number of problems. Firstly during the installation there were error messages relating to Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable which I was unable to resolve properly, despite finding the required file.
Capture of the film was relatively easy, but the quality of the output was poor with lots of false colour and no sound. Changing program and Windows sound settings did not cure these problems. I also started to get Invalid DeviceID error messages upon later attempts.

On the positive side, unlike some others, the program did not completely stop videos from running and the size of the files generated was moderate.

Having tried many programs of this type, the lighter ones which worked best on an older computer were Total Screen Recorder (which has been offered on this site) and Krut, a small freeware Java application for both Windows and Linux.

The slowest install in history

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime 2005 Redistributable install failed, which is could because I already have it.

Developer should choose an installer that checked for the presence of the run time

Again, thank you Anvir.

Almost 15 codecs tried to be added to start up.

These codecs can be started manually after programs execution.

The program itself worked fine, but there is no editing options

You need to use a video editor such as these previous giveaways..........idoo Video Editor Pro 1.4.0 or Movavi Video Editor 7 SE

What I don't like is that the setup is not checking the config and library status regarding "C++ redistributable". Whatever your config is, it will always be installed from the setup. This could easily result in downgrading at a certain moment (okay, the giveaway is only for today, unless you remove the wrapper {you still can you know} or use the trialversion which has no wrapper and can also be used {so why using a wrapper anyway}).

There is offline help in the form of a .pdf-file and a .mht-file. Clearly the .mht-file was meant to be the help-file from within the program, but the .pdf-file is linked, while the pdf-file is meant to read without having the program started. Not a big deal but clumsy.

The trial-version is named a-pdf-S(creen)V(ideo)C(apture) suggesting "a-pdf" and "boxsoft" are the same, which can also be concluded in the about-window. Why using all those different names for one company, must be something Chinese, were this nonsense is common.

However all of this did not say anything about the functioning of the capture tool. It works fine for me; there are better and faster (handling/resources) alternatives though (also see Ashraf's list), but this one could do for many.

Thus see no need for this standalone.

I previously got Screen Recording Suite from Apowersoft via this website. I've only used it a few times but it did the job quite well I thought. Can anyone provide a comparison between this and today's offering?

@1 Ashraf You may need to select a virtual sound driver in the Windows Sound options. This is the way the Apowersoft program works. You then have to reselect your sound card driver when finished. Unless I'm doing something wrong this is quite annoying.

@2 Mee Too
It's meant to be "...grab what you see..." !

Sorry to say, but this fail on all aspects.

Only installation was ok, rest is just piece of not working or wrong working tools. A lot of alerts about invalidID, no sound/no video, no video/sound, no codecs included, FLV saves only sound, sound when is recorded dont display sound volume on meter, video slanted with some codecs, etc.

This software should by taken down from GOTD, as is not working. Vendor should immediately deliver working/tested version.

As is now its waste of time.

This software will not be able to record games if anyone is looking into it for that. You can make it record windowed games but it will record at about 1FPS. I got PlayClaw4 from here but for some reason it randomly expired a short time ago, but it was able to record more powerful applications. This software is good if you want to record yourself doing something on the computer. I wouldn't recommend this for videos, games, 3D applications, etc. It can't handle them.

Dear Mee Too (# 2) [May 4th, 2013 at 3:27 am],

the word you are looking for is "grap".

Be kind to persons making mistakes in a foreign language. The person who had written "grad" is probably used to symbols rather than letters, so this mistake is understandable. I'm learning Chinese for about a year now and I'm sure I'm making that many mistakes that even a toddler could outperform me with ease.

Best regards,
Georg Huber

Today's giveaway is just an ordinary screen recording tool with very basic features and nothing more.... no editing features and no MP4 as a video output....this says it all!!

27 bucks?? Come on man.... maybe on Mars...LOL!!

So it could be a good solution for NOOBS only, namely for people who never captured a video in their entire life.

Overall, for what it does, charging 27 bucks for a basic app like this is sheer madness, but many (GAOTD) developers out there behave as if they were living in another world!!

Installed fine on Windows 7 64bit though it took a while for it to configure the C++ redistributable. I tried this out on my web browser (Chrome) and the quality was surprisingly good - very clear imagery and the tracking is very good as it can track my mouse movements on high DPI settings far better than other capturing software I have tried. The recording framerate is also adjustable from 23.979 (standard film) to 60p or 60 fps).

There was one major issue though. When I attempted to record the desktop, the end video appeared slanted at a 45 degree angle and I have no way to rectify this issue. I tried it a number of times and when I tried to record a smaller window not only was it slanted, but in black and white as well.
