Have to say...It worked gr8 for me when it was up here as a freebie.
Since then my pc crashed (nothing to do with this prog) and so I bought and built a new one. Sadly I can only get this prog again as a trial. It crashes all the time too. But I find if I limit the amount of channels it finds (single channel) it records perfectly with my Nova_T PCI Tv card. Ok the picture is upside down once recorded, but that's my codecs...is it?
I got round this by using AUTOGK to convert the mpeg to avi and it flipped the vid the right way up.

I have to say though that while I originally thought that this prog was a god-send, I now have doubts over its stability...however, this cld be down to my pc's configuration and not this fine ware. I only wish the free offer came up again so I could try the reg'd version to see if errors go away.
GaOTD...I have only good words for this place. Any problems with the software is between me and its makers. You have merely pointed me towards software that has made life easier when recording from my TV Card.

Guys, it's ironic, you are talking about freeware alternatives. Well, you can download the exact same program from AVS for free now.

This program sucks, it does not close the file and causes explorer to crash.

Other than that, it seems to do what the built in windows movie maker can do.

Many bugs. I get the empty error dialog, but I can close it. Some screens hang, but I can go back. Doesn't display files if you change the name. Partly supports my TV tuners, but significant manual settings required, and doesn't set both horizontal and vertical resolution, so I can't use resolutions below 720x480, which means that I don't have sufficient compute for the realtime software encoding (it doesn't support hardware encoders). Someone mentioned wanting to label channels; there's an XML file that you can edit after you set it up. Like virtually all multimedia apps, it damages the Windows Registry and DLLs (replaces newer versions with older versions, etc.) Too many bugs to be useful to me.

Agree with #105, 106...no install problems, or application problems. I've used AVS4 stuff before and they are good basic programs. They don't have all the bells and whistles (like the expensive programs do) but are easy to use. Good value if you ever need to buy the yearly subsciption($29)for all their programs. I paid so I could use one of their programs that hasn't been offered. It works perfectly well. This one works with my webcam, as well. Thanks GOTD.

TO START WITH, THIS IS NOT A COMMENT ON TODAY'S SOFTWARE, BUT I FACED THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS SITE A FEW TIMES BEFORE. AS A RESULT, I MISSED OUT ON SOME OF THE SOFTWARE. SOMEONE AT GAOTD COULD PERHAPS HELP ME OUT.

WHEN I TRY TO OPEN YOUR WEBPAGE I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE :

" WordPress

Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums. "

ONLY WHEN I USE OPERA AND RELOAD THE PAGE A FEW TIMES (6 /7 TIMES) DOES THE PAGE OPEN PROPERLY.

OTHER BROWSERS ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE PAGE AT ALL.

COULD ANYONE HELP ME OUT.

Tried to install this overly sized program twice.... still wouldn't work. Off it went to the Add/Remove factory!

BTW - Does anyone at GAOTD check the software before we have access to installing it?

For the programmers/creators who are supplying the freebies...why are we not being given the FULL software versions? Isn't that the point to attract us to d/l the software.... that we're getting a really sweet deal? I've had a few apps tell me that I cannot get updates because I am not registered for the FULL version... doesn't make sense.

Although these comments tonight are not very positive, I will also say that I have had many successful d/ls and am happy with GAOTD overall.

#91 Michele, he was not "just suggesting", the comment was rude, profane and ended by personally insulting other commenters. If that was from whom you think it was then that kind of invitation isn't likely to attract anyone to his little corner of the web. Do you really believe that was in fact the moderator? I prefer to think it wasn't.

It works like a charm for me - does everything I wanted, ie., making movie files direct from my Logitech QuickCam. The software installed without a hitch and immediately found the webcam. My equipment is stock standard Intel 2.4GHz Dual Core running XP SP2 with all updates. Great free software - thanks GOTD and AVS.

Exactly what my hubby and I were looking for. We need to transfer our wedding video to our PC so we can burn it to a DVD & this is the best program we've found to do it thus far. We just watched some TV from our cable hookup with this program as well, and everything looked great.

Thanks AVS,

Finally a program that wil do the job for me with my Pinnacle Dazzle TV card. The Pinnacle software is an enormous resouce hog and is really tough to get it working.

The picture and sound quality are good. I would, however, like the opportunity to rename the channels and the order instead of having to click on every channel to find out which is which. The program finds a lot of doubles so finding the channel I want to capture is quite tedious. Also a button to surf the channels which it has found in addition to the drop down menu would be handy.

Nice job!

Nobody seems to get this program to run unless they have some analog input, like a VHS, a camcorder, or a supported tuner. It won't work with web cams even though it says it does. I will suggest GAOTD to look at this baby and see what's wrong with it.

The problem with WebCamMax is that, after you install it, it puts an executable on the startup programs under msconfig that get ran every time you start the computer. Get that baby out of your start program and kill its process and the "Wizard" won't mention it, but it still crashes if you don't have the requirements above.

All the other AVS programs worked, but they were audio, this is the first video and it seems like a failure. Maybe it needs other AVS programs to run or some drivers we are not aware of.

I left it installed so that I can use it when I get my VHS connected to my computer somehow (I haven't figured that one yet).

All the thumbs up troubles me. There is obviously a majority who can't get it working, so the percentages should reflect that. Maybe people should wait to click on the thumbs only after the program has been ran and tested somewhat.

I think many of you need to get a grip - 1- this is free - 2 you do not have to downlaod it if you dont want it and 3 - ever heard beggers can't be choosers. If you want the top of the line - maybe you should quie being a cheapskate and BUY it. Otherwise enough negative - I think my mom taught me - if you have nothing nice to say then say NOTHING. If there is a problem that is one thing but this bashing because it is not what YOU want - give it up.
Thanks GOTD!

This is the first time I have commented, so as I was downloading, I got errors like "List index out of bounds."

Next I froze on step 1 of 5 as the screen said "Reading Devise Parameters. Please wait..." I have been waiting for 15 minutes! I try to hit next and I get another error, "Internal Error. [Code: 0x1001].

It is time for me to go to bed. I guess I will not be able to use the program, because I cannot finish the setup!

To put all comments and crap behind me I installed todays software because I enjoy the interaction and I am helping out others not just myself by installing yet the 127th application installation in my pc system... We have a thing called the internet and if I want freewares there is an endless supply I will list some for you that need them at the end of this post, I spent endless hours searching for them and cherish them I get addicted to trying new programs to see what this pc can do I probsbly install 100-200 apps per month, but slowing down doing that after many pc system losses (just one bad spyware or terminal virus and it's toast very often can occur with installing "other than here" freewares... So gotta really watch those that are riddled with adwares/spywares/keyloggers/.dll injectors and so on... I did for the first time have a few troubles with this give-away, but then I realized "HEY!" my video capture box was not plugged and readied in the USB 2 port... DUH! ok that settled that, nice software and even nicer that AVS offers all their softwares "bundled" for one low price, nice. Ok here's some freeware/shareware links, but don't blame me for spyware or the like in any of them, make sure your system has the utmost security "SECURITY IS KEY, I rely on the following PURCHASED programs for my security...

1) www.mcafee.com (Solid, Lasting Secure Total PC Protection)
2) www.acronis.com (Acronis True Image v10+ Total backup/restore aid works with or without windows needing to be loaded...)

90.) I have no idea why you are on Lee's back he is just suggesting you battle it out on the forum instead of the comment space. Maybe someone can help you if you have a problem, maybe Lee can.

I have no web camera or anything like this so this program I didn't download so I have no idea how it runs.

#82 Brooklyn-downs, why should they erase freeware mentions and links? Anything keeping visitors coming back is good, they still get site hits on the program page from visitors looking for freeware links.

#86 Lee, I didn't see outright profanity until your comment. You can't be the same Lee who posted the message you linked to. That Lee identifies as a moderator, moderators don't leave snarky comments with profanity do they?

Looks like many error messages from this program. The aforementioned Themida should be enough to turn visitors off but now errors too.

Hello Sulmonster, #3, 16 and 24. Your main complaint about #2 is the fact that he/she did not leave a "COMMENT on the app".

Well, where is yours???? Does that mean that your "what are you doing here anyway?" applies to you as well?

The fact is that everyone has the right to complaint about GOTD giving crappy software in any way they choose, or praise when they decide to give something good. That’s why they provided this comment section fyi.

I am a newbie to all of this and a s-l-o-w typist so I will not write often. I would just like to say thanks to all those who work to keep this site on the Internet and to those who take the time to give helpful posts. Helpful could be construed as pos/neg comments which are not rude. Why be rude when the same point can be made in a nice way and bring about the same ends? I especially appreciate those that give out links or mention other freeware sites that carry similar software to that being offered that day. Though links are obviously easier to spot in longer posts. What I have found at some of these sites has indeed been a great blessing! I just wish there was some way that I could make this point more public since I doubt this post will get much attention it being practically at the end of this string. I am sure I am not alone in this. Perhaps others who read this and write in more regularly can make this point in a stronger way since we all profit greatly when others do this. It has also become a reason why this site has become a "favorite" with me. Well, with that let me thank you sponsors again for your hard work at making this site free and still possible.

I used it this morning; I took an old VHS and tricked it over to my one of my drives. Anyway The transfer went smooth but the quality of the pictures after the transfer suffered a little

I found that it was some what limited in controls but as a free try from here it’s not bad. I think though if
I had purchased the Program in full I would be a tad ticked off. It does the job but the job it does is somewhat lack-luster,

I wonder why so many people who frequent this forum don't understand the reason for its existence. "Just shut up about any problems you have with this software. After all, it's free." tells the developer nothing of any value. The creators will never know about important changes that needed to be made to the installation routine for this software if the only comments they get are "Hey, don't gripe. It's free so thumbs up."

Frankly, I like all the different opinions and discussion of what is good and not so good about each offering. I also like information about freeware and comparisons with the program offered. Sometimes I get the program offered and sometimes I will get the freeware and sometimes none.

I also like that it is one program a day cause I don't have tons of extra time, but can learn a little every day about different types of software. Sometimes I discover there are programs that can do things I was not even aware of but now that I know I am interested in them.

It is getting harder and harder to sift through all the fussin' & fightin' to get to the stuff all of us are interested in though.

I read the posts...and I find it rather amazing sometimes that people will spend a bunch of money on some fast machine, and whine when the free software doesnt work. I have downloaded...one program, it did what it said, and worked fine for me. So, take this one for example. Video capture. If you do it much at all, and you already spent your money on a decent machine that can even capture and edit, whats another $40 or so to BUY good decent software. If your just messing around, thats something different. I run both Pinnacle and Roxio on my machine, and spent under $100 for both (bought the analog capture box a year or so back, and just purchased Roxio off ebay for $29). Sure, they have some issues, but they also offer support. In fact the Pinnacle has live chat and resolved a rather technical issue for me.

So, I do like to see where someone had a problem installing and can share that, because the hardware in PC can vary all over the place so maybe there are issues with certain cards and drivers. Thats good info. To say there is better freeware? sure...remember simtel? Yeah, that dates me. Back when simtel was just a text based search engine. And spyglass. And UUNET....I digress...im whining.

Bottom line....freeware is just that. Free. If you like it, and it solves a problem for you, then why not pay the authors so they can make a living and feel like there is some reason to write a new version or fix problems. Freeware is a teaser, to get you to try it out and see if you like it. Some companies do a fantastic job of that, look at Eagle for instance...perfect model...not brain dead, just restricted but otherwise fully functional. Need it to do more? Then pay the fee to upgrade..but you havent wasted any money up to that point in EVALUATING it...

im done.

Thanks for listening.
