The one feature I always insist on as far as registry repair tools are concerned is the possibility to back up your registry setting before you run the utility. In that case at least, you can always revert to previous settings if anything goes wrong. Great blog.

PROBLEMS: AWCPV2 seems to be the cause of my Internet problems. I cannot view any Flash or Quicktime videos. (yahoo videos, cnn news, any flash websites). I finally was able to uninstall flash, reinstall, and get it working. Quicktime wont work inside webpages at all any more. When I ran the first AWC in February, it's registry 'fix' demolished the windows "what do you want to do?" list - for USB flash and DVD discs when inserted. (you know, it scans the disc and offers "play with nero, play with media player" ? Wiped that thing out - now gobbledy gook. So I should have known not to do it again! ?maybe they fixed it...? Stupid of me. I like the many utilities, but the reg fix, and internet security aspects might seriously hobble your pc.

Just got a message that this was a "trial" and that I could purchase the Pro version. I thought this was supposed to be free software. Oh well, I didn't see a big difference between the Pro version and the Personal version, but I really don't appreciate being misled.

Does not play well with others. I eagerly installed this and ran it on 3 different computers. It did make a restore point before it finished installing itself, which I thought was good. Then I ran it on all 3 machines and it found a shitload a heck of a lot of items. Some didn't seem bad, but I figured this was finding so many other items that WERE bad that maybe the items were actually trojans. So I let it do it's thing. One week later I could not sign in to MSN, or Yahoo, or MySpace. But only on 2 of the 3 machines! What was different about machine #3? It did not have Norton/Symantic installed! So I went back to the first restore point and now machine 1 & 2 can do all they used to do. So if you don't have any other antivirus programs, or, if you can confidently pick out the good from the bad in the list, then this program could be very useful. But as for me, it was more bothersome than anything.

I had to go back to the personal version and WATCH OUT. This program will destroy your internet connectivity. System restore is the only way to get it back (per their support).

I only did scans as I do not quite trust this and have now uninstalled it. Just a general question, did anybody else see items in the scans that appeared to be false positives? I had it report my 2 anti-spyware programs as trojans and all my .ods and .odt files. For those that don't know, those are the extensions used by open office for their spreadsheet and text documents. Most of them I created myself, they don't even contain macros that could perhaps warrant a warning.

Just for information:

I did the system backup before running the program. The system restore won't restore what the program destroyed.

My computer is a TC4200 (an HP tablet computer). In addition to de-registering a number of pieces of software, this dog also deleted many drivers and somehow managed to make it so that the computer doesn't recognize the pen anymore. This is really amazing, since my computer is running Vista, which comes with built-in pen software, which used to work. This is more than annoying, it is time-wasting, and looks like it is going to be expensive.

I'm afraid this is one free software which is just way too expensive.

Well, after speaking with iObit support, it seems that when I uninstalled the personal version, which I had been using, this caused the pro version to become unregistered. Normally, the remedy is to simply reenter your registration information. Since this was a one day deal only, there isn't anything they will do for me, so I am back to using the personal version.

Folks, if you have the personal version DO NOT uninstall it. This issue should have been mentioned somewhere on the information page.

I installed this program with some hesitation. Working in the Registry is just down right scary. It is so easy to "FUBAR" the whole machine.

I ran the program after installation and was pleasantly suprised. It performed just as Advertised. It found 200+ incidences of Spyware that MS Defender, McAfee, and Norton never even knew existed. It cleaned up my machine and enhanced the performance.

Thanks GAOTD. This is the Best Program I have received from You!

To the other Users with Problems, They should have set a "Restore Point" before adding ANY Software no matter Whose Name is on it!

[sadness]
The software seemed to be a great thing, but the registry cleaner managed to wipe out many of the GAOTD registrations on previous GAOTD's. For instance, the clock screensaver is now unregistered. AccelMan won't start at all, it just hangs and I have to hand-kill the process. I suspect I'll be finding a lot more GAOTD software that used the registry to hold a registry value have been scranged.

bad form, really.

Does anyone know of a good free Windows repair utility? I right click on my desktop and cannot access the right click options. I get a windows error, windows must close error. It started about the last time I used this utility when it was first offered. An upgrade to windows xp pro and sfc /scannow did not fix the problem. I added a new hard drive and a new installation of windows xp, but I still want to keep my downloads on the old hard drive. System restore didn't work either. You have to be very careful using a product like this. I wish it had a registry backup feature.

Sadly, it messed up my Vista pretty bad. I don't think it was configured to handle Vista.
I have spent the last several hours trying to recover what were operating programs. It also took a notion to repeatedly fill my desktop with shortcut icons...
Sorry, had to remove, Thanks for the thought, It would have been great to find "ONE" Vista ready program.

I see some others are asking or commenting on this "trial" thing.

I downloaded and installed this within the 24 hours...no probs.

Then I found that some sort of auto thingy was going. It did a few things that I did not like...no worries, me thinks. I just do a restore. So, software is still installed. Activation says OK. Then the software says, sorry trial edition.

Pitty, it looks like a good program.

If you are going to offer "free". Then I expect to get "free". I do not expect to get something like 'we don't care if you already installed and activated a few hours ago, you now have to pay'.

It does not look good for the publisher of this software and does not look good for you.

You should make it more clear...Oh yes free for 24 hours...OK. So I now need to do a HD format. I back-up everything, including your "free" stuff. Then I get..'sorry the time is up'...Let me put it this way. If my local shop gives me a "free" apple, it does not matter whether I eat it today or next week...it is still a "free" apple....

And that is not to mention the fact that this so called "free" software, expires in a few months!!

@ 238

No need to remove the old one first.

Activate first, and Install the new one; it will automagically uninstall the old one and reinstall the new one no prob. Then it will prompt you to create back-up/restore point; DO IT. And you're off!

To those who are having the trial problem:

You need to open the activator before you do the setup, otherwise it just installs the trial version, if you have its not too late, just uninstall it and do as above.

A friend recommended this site to me, and I'm intrigued to see what comes up over the next few months. As I already have anti-virus and spyware that works pretty well I probably won't be downloading this one, because the only thing I would want it for is registry clean-up; and reading all the above comments, it sounds like that's the dodgiest aspect.
Why does Windows persist with its outdated and arcane registry? Seems to me it causes more problems than it solves, largely because people don't have the first clue what it's doing. I'm a programmer myself, but I've never fathomed its stygian depths.

Useless. Security software with 3 month updates. And as I'm sure other developers have said, don't touch the registry if you don't know what you're doing. And more importantly don't let some dodgy IOBit software touch your registry either.

Look, stop downloading adult content, warez and small apps like this and chances are you'll have a tiny fraction of the spyware you have now. The rest comes down to the magic of firewalls.

Windows Firewall + router firewall + spybot search and destroy + avg free anti-virus = one happy network of computers. Simple.

I have to agree wih Dan #216. One of my computers was running so slow it was becoming more than annoying. I've avoided going down the path of a format to get rid of all the rubbish and doing a fresh install of windows because I didn't want to lose all of the marvellous software and games I've downloaded from this site since November. (I missed the previous version of this fantastic program) Now I have a computer that runs efficiently. I took the advice mentioned many times above not to mess with my registry, so unchecked that scan parameter. With the rest I carefully checked what was going to be deleted, or removed from the start up before proceeding

If used carefully, this program is a must have. I am already convinced of it's use and will be buying a licence in September.

No installation problems at all. For those wo are having problems remember to click on the activate icon first (the one with the key) then follow the prompts.

Thanks IOBit and the Giveaway team for a fantastic giveaway

In ref to my post (#178), I am aware that the license exp date does not prevent the download of updates, and some of us are quite versed with how some of these work. However, it does pay off to read user comments here, and also to examine the details on the app's homepage for possible compatibility issues and such before you decide to install anything. I did, and it still did not work out for me. It is the gamble you take on. As for IOBIT, good luck, they will need it. And, they incorporate ads that I am sure to some (and I agree), seems more like bait to purchase the product rather than fully functional software. (Appearance does count!).

I downloaded it, activated it, and installed it just fine.

I tried out each of the tools, each of which works fine for me. Everything is function, it hasn't once bugged up on me.

I think the only problem with the program is that it doesn't have too pretty of a user interface. But, I supposed interface isnt enough to judge a program on.

I'll give this a 9/10, as it has an ugly interface.

Darn, the numbers at the end change. When I started my last post, the last one was #200. After I posted, it had become #202. sigh...

I ran the must current update of the Personal version, then download the new Pro version (installed to a separate directory) and ran it.

On the surface they look identical... After the scan,

TIP: for both versions, after the scan, do NOT use the "Repair" button on the main screen. That is "Auto Mode". Instead, use the "Show details" for each category. That way you can deselect things you don't want changed.

Security Defense has me puzzled. It showed an additional "1006 items unprotected". I let it apply all of these "imunizations".

OK, puzzle me this. I ran the Pro version, applied the fixes, then reran it again. Immediately. Didn't run anything else. So why did the same number of "unprotected items", 1006, showed up both times?!? Being generous, it might be a program bug. Being paranoid, it sounds like malware giving false positives trying to sell "upgrades". But since this is the full version already (no additional functions available if we buy it), that doesn't sound reasonable. I dunno.

System Analysis found the items I had chosen not to update on the last run (Good, that is what I expected). But it also found a couple of new items. One thing I dislike is that it shows the registry key values, not their meaning. ie "Optimize crash control" has a "Current Value = 3", "Recommended value = 1". Weeellllll, what the *&$(^ does 1 or 3 mean?! Now I either disable the change (yes) or go hunting the internet for the meaning ... Please display the meanings, not just the actual value!

I'll keep using it until the expiry date, then probably go back to the free version.

Can someone from GOD or the company confirm whether spyware & security defense signatures will continue after the expiry date. I hope so. I do understand that program version updates won't happen, I'm OK with that (those are the terms of this site afterall), BUT malware signatures have to be updated!

I downloaded the Pro version last time it was offered, but ended up removing it because it "expired". But I have used the Personal version since then, and I have like what it does. I'll give this one another try (at least until the expiry date).

#67 - can it increase speed? yes. The registry is a big complex, obtuse database. Programs make entries that often are not removed when no longer needed (ie after the initial install, installation instructions could be removed if there is no repair option). By deleting entries that no longer point valid programs (ie those that have been uninstalled) you can reduce the size, and complexity, of the registry. That allows it to be read faster (after you have defragmented the registry).

What is "Immunization"? One form of immunization is adding entries to your Internet Explorer "History" key. These entries point to "bad" websites. But the entry has an associated value the blocks access to the site. But, at first glance it appears that you have been a very bad person who spends most of their live at unsavory websites. The Microsoft Knowledge Base entry #182569 describes this.

#166 - ROFL!

#107 - still running NAV 2005 is OK as long as they continue to provide signature updates. Eventually they will stop, it happened to me with an older version. The point that other people have made, an anti-malware (virus, spyware, rootkit, etc) program that is not get new signatures is worse than useless. It gives you a false sense of security. That said, the other functions, ie registry scan will still work.

#200 - I basically agree with those comments.

As others have said, in general, when using a tool like this don't let them go automatic. You'll probably be sorry. For example, in this program do the "Scan", then click on "Show Details" for each category. Then scroll through the list of entries. If you don't understand what it is going to do, think twice about letting it happen. Try googling for the registry key or file name and see what others have to say. It can be slow, but it is safer.

Thank you IObit and GAOTD for providing the Professional version of Advanced WindowsCare v2 for FREE! I had been using the Personal version for a few months and it was an excellent addition to my arsenal. Now, with the capability to update definitions and possibly future program revisions, I am even more satisified than I had been with the Personal version.

The download was clean and the program activated and installed perfectly. I ran a complete scan of my system and reviewed all results before repairing. I trusted all results and repaired same. My system is again immunized, but with updated definitions, and is running in excellent fashion. As anticipated, there has not been a single glitch.

I can only surmise that those who are having trouble with this program are either not following the proper installation proceedures, or possess computer systems which have been so terribly neglected to report as many problems. OR, they are hired by competing software companies to denigrate IObit and this otherwise quality software program :)

In any event, Advanced WindowsCare v2 Professional works like a charm for me. Again, thanks for all the good!

You didn't have to do that, but you did. It's much appriciated. But i can't believe how many people keep complaining that this expires in 3 months. IDIOTS. Do you know how to read, people? I noticed that, and at first that was what i thought too, but i decided to READ A FEW COMMENTS FIRST. I quickly realized that it doesn't expire in 3 months, just the definitions updates. Jeez. People just need to take a little time before spazzing out. Thanks again for this great software!! I will recommend this to my friends.

For me it isn't a giveaway of a previously offered version, I'm fairly new here and glad it's offered today (espcially for a Free PRO version).

Downloaded, installed and activated in 20 min at 50k (Dial-up)
About the 90 day notice (see # 35 SLAVA from GAOTD Team)

It worked for me with no problems, scanned and fixed everything I wanted it to (395 errors in registry repaired).

Basic PC users should use CAUTION though when using ANY of these type of programs. I'm a PC Tech so I know what needs to stay on my pc and what can be removed without casuing problems.

Restarted and ran Registry Scan again, 0 errors.

Lots of functions and replaces several of my other programs, another keeper for me. I give it 8/10
Thanks IOBit.com and to the GAOTD team for another good deal and the great job you guys do bringing us FREE Software.

#1, 5, 7, et al., what's wrong with a repeat? I must have done something wrong or my software de-activated on Crystal Player and Daily-To-Do-List so I have just a trial. If it were a repeat, someone new or who had problems with activation might like to have it again.

By the way, I think screensavers are great for the weekend. Once when I was out of town, I missed a good title. Thanks, G-men. Also, thanks to those who post cautions, alternatives, etc.
