Interesting. People buy what is already on the computer for the most part. As a computer geek, I have been dealing with the internet when it was called something else entirely, and that was LONG before Windows! At any rate does anyone ever look in their cache or temporary internet files folder? If you did, you might be amazed to find the video, WAV or MP3 is already there and was downloaded by Windows without any software additions at all. All you have to do is copy the files you want to a different area of your hard drive, rename the files, and you have the video/audio from the web site you visited. And yes, I STILL have Windows 95/98/ME/2000, and I use them for different abilities that Windows XP/Vista/7 does not have (and I have those operating systems too, except I trashed Vista - didn't like it one bit!

Good Lord.
I wish people would develop software that doesn't have 5,000 duplicate types running around.
The next time I see GOATD have a CD burning program or a Youtube downloader, I'm going to... I'm going to kick a defenseless little mouse. Do you really want me to do that?

Anyone to recommend a downloader that can deal with RTMP and RSTP?

I'm gonna give this a miss and stick with FREE version of Real Player which puts a download link on the screen as video is playing, cool.

Here's a freeware that i use.

www.atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com

Download videos from web sites like MySpace, Dailymotion, Megavideo, Google, Yahoo!, Metacafe, Spike, Megarotic (unlimited), Yahoo!, CBS, Comedycentral, MyPlay, Globo, RTVE, YouTube, etc

You can download and export the multimedia content to your computer or your mobile device, IPOD, PSP, Cell Phone, DVD, VCD, MP3 (Yes, you can extract only audio tracks from your favorite videos), includes templates so you don't have to worry about the encoding options, but if you want, you can customize the options and get higher quality video/audio. The default format is MPEG4 AVI, the file types supported are 3GP, 3G2, AVI, XVID, MP4, MP3, MP2, WMA, WMV, GIF, FLAC, WAV, PSP, MPG, VOB, OGG, MOV, AVI

aTube Catcher also is available in many languages, English, Spanish, French, German, Catalá, Slovensky, Portuguese and Italian (you can help to translate it to your language), all in a easy to use GUI, just Copy & Paste the url of your video.

I found some youtubes that it wouldn't download, here is one example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqhxK_g9mrA
and it wouldn't let me cancel or remove it. I had to shut down the program to get rid of it's attempts. It just kept saying "downloading 0%". There are much more robust and stable programs that are free like DVDVideosoft Youtubetomp3 converter or the also much more robust Anyvideoconverter. DVDvideosoft and Anyvideo converter have tools for all the same formats and are more stable and are free. Now for the next test, let's see how it handles an uninstall!~

Well, These comments really have nothing to do with the GOTD giveaway, which is basic and as said before, there are better alternatives for free.
As for Win95 I have three old laptops (originally XP) one runs XP, one Win98 and one win95, I find new programs for 98 and 95 all the time, there are still people out there who use them and write programs for them, plus the fact that there are numerous archives for programs, updates, patches. But, to run 95 and 98 on an XP laptop makes them screaming fast! My 98 blows away the speed of my xp laptop.

If you want an on-line converter, check out http://www.mediaconverter.org/.

They support YouTube as well as several other sites, and are able to convert the video to several formats (for both audio and video).

Check out the site for the full list of sites and formats.

I use a free firefox add-on called 1-click youtube viedeo downloader. It is good.
And to comment Nr. #2 Instead of just saying that "there are many programs that will do this and so much more", please put a name on your favorites to help others.
Thanks

This program starts in a drag and drop format, but has an address bar that is easy to reach as well. It is not limited to YouTube. It will work for any streaming video site. Drag the video onto the drop zone or copy and paste the URL into an address field. I think that it could be very useful for someone who is not PC savvy. I would set it up for some of my PC challenged or older friends, for example. For them it would be perfect.

Just a quick question about this one; when they say you can grab audio from HD/HQ videos, does that mean it will actually save them as something more than a 128kbps 3MB file?

I've seen allot of these downloaders on Giveaway Of The Day lately. If you want a good downloader that gets just about everything, just start using Firefox web browser. There is an add on called Net Video Hunter, get that and you'll be able to download anything you want. I've been using this downloader for over a year and it grabs anything I have ever tried to get, from any web page. Plus Firefox loads faster and runs smoother that Internet Explorer, and you can customize it any way you like.

That's nice, sometimes I wonder if software developers do enough marketing before they start developping new software, or do they gamble that people won't find out that the same they offer for $29.95 is available 100%FREE, like the flawless working YouTube Downloader from Altervista (link) http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/ that does exactly the same, supports HQ, HD, MP3, a very intuitive easy to use as-simple-as-can-be program, for all kinds of mediastreams so not only YouTube. I am certainly not affiliated with them, just a frequent user who does not understand why people are asked $29.95 for something 'same-same-but-different'. For this money I would even choose for the well advanced http://jaksta.com/ that download/convert even streams that are 'locked' or 'protected'.
