Instructions on how to run and help information very poor. I have used Photoshop satisfactorily for many years but found this program impossible to use. Even the 30 day trial was a farce. I thought I used activate program OK but nothing was clear and it did not work for me. I have now removed the program in disgust.

Program installed effortlessly on Windows XP PRO SP/3. Registration was as simple as instructed in the README following advice above to activate after installation but before running the program the first time.

Tried 5 photos. The first was a learning experience and I left remnants of a copyright I was removing for the test. Once I became familiar with the software, it was as easy as circling the date or title or logo on the photo and clicking preview to see that it was perfect and then start. I did not encounter any overwrite problems because I designated a different output folder. When I tried to overwrite a file in the output folder, the program asked me whether I wanted to use a different file name, etc. I don't know what the references to overwriting were as stated above because I could not get the program to overwrite without giving it permission.

Overall, I give the program a 10. I got 4 out of 4 perfect results on different tasks, effortlessly without a problem or disappointment. I'm sure there will be photos that will not work, but for those that do it is fast, easy and visually perfect. Less than a 5 minute learning curve.

Thanks Softorbits and GOTD for a program I will use often and that will save me a lot of time and work over Photoshop!

I must say, I had trouble using this at first. But then, after reading some of the comments here, I went back and gave it another try. Well, with safeguards in place of not overwriting the original, and some trial and error, this program could be awesome. Too bad its has so many things that need improvement. Maybe this was not really ready to come out of the box. I appreciate it GOTD and SoftOrbits.

Maybe this one will have a better second appearance...
One thumb up from me (which means a thumb up on the rating above)...

Useless software and misleading information. How can this be free software when it is both crippled ( no image save ) and only a trial. Quote the blurb " The program is available for $39.95, but it will be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer. " Talk about false advertising !!

To #9, Mike who said "As far as I’m aware, this offers nothing that photoshop can’t do.
If you clone brush around the defect, it will solve the problem, not this bloatware".

Apart from the fact he obviously hasn't tested the software and knows even less about using his "clone brush", I'm wondering if he realises the price is a bit lower than Photoshop. and it's size is also hardly bloatware.
My Photoshop is 215Mb - and cost me over a K!
Having said all that, this software is, at best, inept - most of the reasons already stated are valid. And please remember to work on copies of your photos, 'cos once saved, the original's gone.

Hey All. Usually I wait until a good number of comments have posted before attempting any downloads, as instructions are not always clear, & may not apply to certain OS. Another reason: when a number of people report minor to major problems, I cannot ignore this helpful info. So when people like fubar & others mentioned Inpaint as an alternative, along with freebies like gimp, I went to the Inpaint website that Dave ,#42, gave the link to. Here are a few of their comments about their product that were copy/pasted into a Word docx.

Inpaint reconstructs the selected image area from the pixel near the area boundary. Inpaint may be used to remove undesirable objects from still images.

It is alarmingly simple to use. Draw a selection around the object you wish to remove from the picture, and run smart remove selection. Inpaint will fill the selection area with intelligently generated texture drawn from the surrounding image data.

Coming soon... Inpaint for Photoshop

And I found out that they have a great & generous deal:
Inpaint is a "try-before-you-buy" product. You can download a fully-functional copy of the software and use it as long as you want. You will need to register Inpaint if you decide to save images.
Hope this helps someone.

My question is: Does today’s program have the ability to “fix” the dreaded Pink Eyes; or does anyone know of freebie progs that can do so?
Thanks to all the regulars & others that I have learned so much from, & to GAOTD for their generosity in providing new opportunities day after day. madalpal

I don't know whether the moderators will let this pass or whether anyone will read it, and I would have posted this in a security-related giveaway if there had been any recently. For those running Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro or Security Suite Pro, there was a major bug-fix release last week, with Windows 7 support, and another release a couple of days ago. New releases are always available on the website long before they're available via update checking. Also, today is the last day for some discounts.

Very disappointing. I've downloaded both InPaint and Image Mender from GotD in the past, and neither is perfect, but between those two and the clone tools found on free paint programs, I can usually obtain results I can live with. I was hoping to find another tool to add to my collection, but found very little to recommend in Photo Stamp Remover.

Pretty much the only thing in their favor is the Color Picker. I like that idea very much, and will probably keep this product for just that function. You have to be careful to restrict the areas you're working on if the stamp you're trying to get rid of crosses more than one color/texture, but that's workable - it's no different than what is required with the other two products I mentioned above. The color fuzziness and border fuzziness options make the Color Picker even more effective.

Oh, and as for the comments above about the Color Picker not working correctly? You just have to be persistent - try more than once until you get just the color you're looking for. Pixels are very close together, and even though a color looks solid it often consists of many different shades.

However, the Color Picker aside, the problems with this product are many, and when added together they make this product a bad choice for most jobs.

Not having an undo option is the first and probably biggest problem with a program like this - any artist will tell you that the ability to go back and forth and examine the differences between the before and after shots is crucial in obtaining a satisfactory results. Having to reload the original in order to try for better results is time consuming and in the long run almost enough to make this product useless by itself. Then add in having no warning before overwriting your original and a useless zoom function and if it weren't for the Color Picker, I can't imagine why anyone would want this even when it's free.

I give Photo Stamp Remover two out of five stars, just for the Color Picker. Soft Orbits needs to put some serious thought into revamping this product.

Creating good graphic work requires to get in there and polish up manually. PS magic wand and stamp functions are still the best way to get the best results. No pain no gain.

#27: "The only one that can satisfy is Alien Skins Image Doctor 2.0"

Try G'MIC in the GIMP, or if you insist on paying, the ASF plug-ins from Kodak.

* * *

#28: "Using Photoshop to fix an imperfection is like ridding yourself of that pesky fly in your house with a match and a gallon of gasoline…way, way, too much."

Depends on the results you're after -- you can paint your car with a 2" brush too. ;-)

Seriously though, if whatever problem [scratch, dust, wart, or zit] is on someone's face, rather than in the middle of the bay or a field of grass, you don't have to use P/Shop but some serious tools are necessary. :-)

TO remove something prominent from an image -- not a scratch or dust -- there are basically 2 ways to go --> cloning based on surrounding data/pixels, & something called Seam Carving [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seam_carving]. Seam Craving is also used for a unique sort of resizing... the easiest way to explain this scaling/resizing is to see it, so if you're interested check out the links from the Wikipedia page. For dust, scratches, & grain/noise, you're limited to using data from somewhere else, whether you do it manually using a clone brush/tool, or using special tools &/or plugins. Judging from the images on Photo Stamp Remover's site, I'd guess that they use some sort of cloning -- you can see distortion along the beach line where the flag was removed, hinting at averaging &/or blending. At any rate, advertising/publishing results with distortion, 3 one star ratings at cnet, & the following line from the Readme file lead me to skip this GOTD entirely... "This software was tested under Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6, Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and Windows XP..."

Tips:
Most image editing software includes simple scratch & dust tools/plug-ins, & for larger problems these are normally fine -- for larger defects, selecting the area & feathering that selection before applying a dust/scratch filter will limit blurring your entire image. If it's big enough you decide to use a clone (sometimes called stamp) brush/tool, dab rather than paint -- select different areas to sample from surrounding the repair, & click (don't drag) on different parts of the scratch using some transparency... our eyes detect patterns, & that's how we spot most poorly done repairs, because we see the digital equivalent of brush marks.

With digital images some amount of noise is just about unavoidable. While there are several, usually fairly expensive plug-ins to tackle this, there's an excellent plug-in called G'MIC for the free-ware GIMP that gives you several options. I run the portable version of the GIMP from portableapps.com -- I've had problems / glitches running the normal Windows versions, they have plug-ins at the download page at portableapps to make GIMP look & perform closer to P/Shop, & the portable version runs of a hard drive just fine. Otherwise, a tip from Robert Mizerek works well in any image editor that can handle layers: with 2 identical copies of your image on 2 layers, blur the top 1 & merge them based only on color, setting the upper layer's transparency to whatever looks best.

Having downloaded and used this program,I find firstly it has an ugly GUI and secondly is difficult to use. I am also having difficulty registering it despite following the instructions given above.(This is the first time I have had any problem registering a GOTD program, and I have have downloaded and tried dozens).
I use a program called Inpaint, http://www.teorex.com/inpaint.html, with very good results. It does take some practice working out which area to cut around the unwanted item, but after a few tries it is very easy to use. AND it has undo, redo and save as.., as well as a zoom feature.

This program doesn't work nearly as well as InPaint, which I downed from here. InPaint sometimes requires magnification zooming and a couple of passes to get what you want, but it seems to remove/change the photo with much better results. I'm uninstalling (using freeware Revo Uninstaller to rid myself of any leftover program fragments) and will continue to use InPaint.

OK, I downloaded and installed on Win 7 x64 and it seemed to work fine including registration. I then went to newegg.com and downloaded a jpg with their watermark on it and tried to remove the watermark. The results weren't satisfactory at least for a trial of about 2 or 3 minutes. Perhaps it would work better if I were extremely careful and worked with very small parts.

While I had hoped that some of the functional criticisms posted earlier were overstated, this one's kindova dud. Fair play to SoftOrbits for this. For some photos this will work excellently and for others .. not so good. In Photoshop and Paint Shop this kind of work is both tedious AND interesting and it's good to see one company trying to automate the process to some degree. This is worth a try and remember to use it only on a copy of your pic! Thanks GAOTD for this.

The more I use this program, the less I like it.
First, when I installed it, it was nowhere to be found in my Start menu. It may have been a result of my unchecking a "do you want to add to Start menu" question right after asking where I want something in the Start menu. Those always get me.
Anyway...the program window barely fits the height of my monitor and will not get shorter, just wider or narrower. It wouldn't let me preview my results until I selected a destination for the output. I had to hide the taskbar to see the box for that.
My first try at removing a date stamp was a spectacular success. The background was a mottled brown and the bright yellow date disappeared instantly. I next tried a photo with a date stamp spanning several colors and textures. The only major kink was where the stamp crossed a ladies arm, causing some warping. I also tried the color picker method. It turned out better, although there was still a problem on the edge of the ladies arm. This is when I found out about a not so cool "feature" of the program. I clicked on "Save Results", expecting it to save to the destination directory. Instead, it overwrote the original file. Not cool! Later, when I clicked on "Start" for photo2, it warned me that a file named photo1 already existed. Not wanting to overwrite the first fixed photo, I clicked "cancel". When I looked in the destination folder I saw that the program had created the correct file anyway. I get the feeling that file management is an afterthought in this application.
I,ve already received InPaint and Image Mender from GAOTD. As I recall, I like features of both of them. Two is enough. An irksome third is one too many.

I've seen a lot of programs that promise this functionality.

The only one that can satisfy is Alien Skins Image Doctor 2.0 as a photoshop compatible plugin.

The results are not always perfect but better than those of comparable
software. Unfortunately Image Doctor is a really expensive program and costs $ 199.

You can see a lot of examples at:

#16, MichaelMooreFan, #19, Curt, its comments like yours and moderators who won't post my comments that make me feel like posting anything here is a waste of my time. Use your brain, use your brain, use your brain. This just isn't that complicated, although the UI sucks. Here's the deal. Load the photos you want to work with. If you load a folder, it loads the subfolders. Preview Results will process the image, there is no undo. Save Results will overwrite the original without prompting, using your selection, even if not Previewed. Start needs an output folder, which can be different from the source folder, and will batch process ALL loaded images. Unlike Save Results, it will prompt for Overwrite, Rename, etc. The Color Picker is obvious, click on the color in the photo which you want to remove, and click on the checkbox, the features are documented (it doesn't appear to do anything if you don't select the checkbox).

$39.95 is too much to ask for, given the fact that this performs only one function. Someone above made a good suggestion about making it a plugin for photoshop, but then people who do not have Photoshop will whine.

Overall, i really like what this program does but in my opinion it should be at a lower price.
