I read a lot of the negative comments on this one before downloading it. The negative comments that have nothing to do with the product are a waste of time, when trying to find solid reviews. I, for one, am grateful for the opportunity to try quality software for free and not have to put up with either a limited-time trial or a crippled product. Some of you sound like spoiled brats! Enough editorializing. This software did EXACTLY as the advertisement said it would. I have captured many great music tracks and some beautiful pictures with this product! AllMedia Grabber makes it easy to retrieve media that is not accessible to non programmer-geeks. Great Job! I look forward to more software releases by this company!
Thank you, GAOTD!!!

Poor tool. Startup is very slow. When searching folders, it usually hangs up. I have tried the files in %WINDIR%, but got nothing!

As for #54, when running the program it says “AllMedia Grabber Needs a screen resolution 1024×768. AllMedia Grabber will exit now. Change screen resolution and run program again.”
My PC (running XP Pro SP3) is already set for 1024x768 and when changing to 1152 x 864, it still comes up with the same window as above. Can anybody help, please?

@#69 (herkato) You'd rather learn how to talk to people and learn about computers yourself.
You may consider "quit computer", as you wrote, yourself according to your own advice. The only thing to add here you may quit many computerS but not only one.
#19 did what he wanted to do and what program allows doing.
Then MP3s can be used in PowerPoint. They could be linked or even embedded (!) into presentation.
Do you know that? Sure you don’t. Read about that before commenting and insulting people.
So, with embedded MP3s there should not be a problem.
Then probably this program intelligent enough to see the link and grab a file… Have you tried that?
Sure you didn’t. Read about that before commenting and insulting people.
Learn!... Don’t just show up without knowledge. Because you look like a fool now aren’t you, #69?

Looked like an interesting program. The required 1024X768 am unable to do.

When right clicked on desktop and changed the slider to that resolution, small print wasn't the problem, had nothing but flickers and 4 screen normal screen areas side by side vertically -- making the whole display unreadable. So glad it reverted back on its own after reboot.

So, since couldn't even get the program started, quess no place to put in the registration. What a waste of dial up downloading time. Thumbs down.

#40 - I haven't downloaded anything from GAOTD for months. The only thing I downloaded was "Around the World in 80 Days" game giveaway.

Also I downloaded the Visual Basic 6.0 files directly from the Microsoft site and the signature was verified as being theirs.

Thanks anyway. I appreciate your trying to help!

When you download this, it asks for a registration key.. when waiting for GOTD to approve (when you click on the key icon) the reg # is usually there but there was none this time. I assume then that I downloaded this and it won't be registered, so how would I use it? Better yet, IF I want to use it, HOW do I get the registration key??
If someone at GOTD sees this, please respond? Thanks!
And thank you for all of the free stuff I get from GOTD :)

A Thumbs Down on this one. My Win2k screen resolution is set to 1024x768 and yet the program, after installation, when started the first time, complained that my screen rez wasn't 1024x768. It then shut down. Not worth trouble-shooting for this kind of error. De-installed and deleted.

TO #61, saying you need 30GB of disk space to use the program, dunno what was going on with you, but it extracted 288 graphic files from one .dll for me, on a partition that only had about 3GB free to start with, and that partition still had about the same amount left after the extraction (that's WITHOUT deleting the found files). The program used all of 187KB to store the found graphic files. Admitedly, they were only small .png icons-type files, but still, no outrageous use of disk space there

To #63, the DEMO VERSION of the shareware version does have that 300Kb restriction. I had downloaded the free demo version about six months ago from their web site, and was disappointed by that restriction. However, the version that we get from gaotd does not have that 300Kb restriction. Sorry the program didn't work for you.

As far as not finding files, the program is a little deceptive, in that after you tell it to search a drive, folder, or file, it will go do it's thing, then when it finishes and you click "OK", there is indeed a big blank window area taking up most of the screen space. BUT, if you look to the left of that blank space, there's a listing of various categories of files, with the number of each kind of file of that type that it found. You have to click on the category names in that left panel for the files to display in the larger right-hand pane.

To #57: All the little icons in the row below the top menu line all show tool tips when *I* do a mouseover. Dunno why that isn't working for you. Re not getting any info about the file, well if it's a static graphic file, it will show up as a thumbnail in the listing, and if you want to see it more clearly, you can either double-click the icon, or select the icon then click the "view" tool, which is the fourth icon from the left in the row of icons below the main menu. You can double-click on audio files to hear them so you know what they are.

I am also having the resolution issue. It says it requires 1024x768 resolution. The irony is that I am already using the 1024x768 resolution but for some reason this software thinks I am not. So I am unable to use this piece of ... ummm software.

The program installed and worked without a hitch for me. WinXP, SP3. Some people have compared it to Resource Hacker, but this program has some advantages, such as automatically sorting and grouping the files into their file types for you, and displaying thumbnails of the graphic files. It was quite fast, in the files I tested it on. Neat little program, if you ask me.

The program did not work as promised for me. I have a PowerPoint file with about 85 screen shots. After about 55 of the pages, which got saved correctly as .png files, this program produces only "black fill" "graphics" for the screen shots #56-85. I've run it three times now on the same file and it stops encoding the extracted pictures correctly after a certain number each time. Hey, if it's a small PPT file I can extract graphics myself. I thought this was supposed to be geared to handle large graphics collections...

This program has been on GOTD before, and i have been using it for about a year. It is overall good, and does a good job of extracting virtually any type of visual and audio data from any file. However, it is not the best program. It takes quite a while to start up, and it does not have the easiest interface to use. I recommend this program, but don't expect too much from it.

=================================FREE Game for Thursday======================================

Week 2 - Free game for the weekdays – Snap and Sudoku King

There are two free games (well, three really - read the last paragraph) for Thursday. I thought after yesterday’s cool game, you’d be disappointed with just the one today’s. The games are called Snap (not the card game) and Sudoku King – yeah I know there’s hundreds of Sudoku variants out there, but I only added it as filler. Snap is an excellent game of skill. You’ll see what I mean and you’ll get the name as well if you download it (<3Mb)

Follow the link below for download links to each of the games:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3921#post-42141

And finally, at the last minute, I decided to add a simple and free multiplayer space game to the pot. (~80Mb) I wasn’t sure about doing this as technically the project was supposed to be only for single player games (though I’m not excluding single player with multiplayer options like yesterdays game) But after playing this game, I felt it was almost like playing it as a single player mission anyway. The graphics are fairly basic, but that means it’ll run on just about any system. I’ve included some videos and screen captures of the game for you to check out. I found the game while researching a new thread that lists a multitude of free and partially free multiplayer games such as Archlord, Fifa online 2 and Gunz, Krazy Kart and Dogs of the Sea to name just a few and which will be posted sometime in the near future.

=================================FREE Game for Thursday======================================

With respect to today's giveaway; I decided to install the latest version to a different place on my computer so that I could compare the differences between the two. According to the developer JPG, GIF, PNG, ICO functions have been improved, but to be honest I couldn't tell; however because I didn’t uninstall the last version, I didn't need to register the latest one because the previous registration was still valid. I thought I'd try using the version found over on the developer’s site to see if it would register because 8 times out of 10 they do, however, this is one of the 20% of times that it didn’t work with the Giveaway registration code.

I’ve found this application really useful when searching for wallpapers. Instead of having to peruse a site for suitable images, which can sometimes take ages, I can download the lot and view them en-mass. It’s easy enough to get a good impression of what I want from the thumbnails that are presented to me. Thus the program is an excellent time saving tool; (IMO).

The program won't run. Just displays an error message that tells me to change my resolution to 1024x768, which is what I already have. The program isn't smart enough to figure that out. The developer asked me to send a screen print. No help so far.

Uninstalled the previous (2.1) version without problems and installed version 2.3 without problems.
I had kinda hoped they would've added more support for a wider variety of media types. Things like .ogg files and the like, oh well.
This application has helped me from time to time with extracting image and sound files from corrupted compression files.
The aforementioned Resource Hacker in the first posts might be a nice alternative but AllMedia Grabber goes beyond Windows .exe and .dll files.

#55 (Mainpupil) thanks for the changelog of version 2.2, helped me alot.

To the developers:
I really appreciate how the program "pauses" while I edit the options, otherwise I think it may become unresponsive as is typically the case with data recovery software.
The 1042x768 screen resolution thing was a little odd, I ran the program on a VMware virtual machine so this item didn't really affect me.
I especially like how I can scan an entire drive (C:) at once and not be limited to just a folder - sounds like a duh but developers have trouble with the small things sometimes.
I was delighted to see that every single option for the different media formats were already selected the first time I ran the program - I would have been really annoyed if I had scanned the entire C:, then checked the options, and found that MPG's were not included in the search.

Those are my thoughts for the moment.
Thanks everyone

Has anyone actually used this software... I mean really used it?
Yes, it installs fine. Yes, it did ask me to update my Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files - no problem there! Yes, it did run.
NO! It did NOT extract the files! It indicated it had... but it hadn't. I tried several things, including looking in the program files to see if had dumped them there - nothing!
So, I accessed the Help file and discovered:
"The shareware version is fully functional to scan and find multimedia files, but will extract resource files only from files that are less than 300KB."
That sucks!
But, I couldn't even get it to extract files from any of the few files I have that are less than 300KB.
Now here's something it does appear to have done that I didn't expect: In "thumbnail" view using explorer/file manager, it now shows an image of the first page of every PDF file!
Has anyone else had this experience?
Now, I know I'm old (I can remember the time when we used punch cards to feed data into a computer!) but has senility taken over my brain since downloading this software?
I am using XPPro SP2.

There are tons of freeware capable of doing the same thing. For extracting from game files - Dragon Unpacker, for extracting resources - Resource Hacker. And you can find more if you search Google.
Yes, most of them do not have a scan function, but why you would need a scan function in this kind of software ?
So thanks GAOTD, but I'll pass today.

Dear #41 (Ollie) Thanks for your interest in my frustrating problem.
I will repeat what the program says here:
"AllMedia Grabber Needs a screen resolution 1024×768. AllMedia Grabber will exit now. Change screen resolution and run program again.”
Thats the exact wording. Then I click the "OK" and it exits..
I know not if other resolutions will work with the program though. But my problem is that if I go to 1024x768 on this computer, then everything on the screen becomes so small that I can't see it without scooting up to my screen. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, I don't know, because you are the first person that actually took the time to respond in a kind way about my problem. I cannot use the required screen resolution, less theres something about enlarging screen images that I am not aware of yet. Thanks for listening, and hopefully someone can help me, I'd really like this program.
Sincerely, Mansion Trash

Todays Giveaway installed and registered smoothly without problems on both my XP and Vista machines, no problem at all. I didn't have to uninstall the earlier version either, on either machine. Got no error messages (and my XP machine (XP Home) is a 2004 Compaq, which in computer age is getting close to being a dinosaur :P)

The previous Giveaway was Version 2.1 on April 16th

I agree with #32 that Atomic Clock is a nice program although I also like the freeware EarthClock I saw yesterday (I almost always check out the freeware links that people post, I've discovered quite a bit of nice freeware that I was previously unaware of, by checking links posted in Giveaway comments :)

Useful program.
It doesn't seem to like networks thou, it wont scan a network folder unless you right click on the folder and use the context menu.

As for #10 get some glasses! 1024x768 has been the standard minimum since xp came out (xp tries to raise you resolution to 1024x768 when you install it doesn't force it thou). seems irrational to take your blindness out on a useful utility :P

#39 the program isn't using those icons, your probably seeing icons extracted from your own files and assuming its part of the software.

I'm commenting to let everyone know that I tried it on my XP Pro system & it didn't ask me for a thing. No updating of "Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files", no change of resolution in my display or anything else. It installed & uninstalled just fine for me. And, I don't beleive the comment by #40 either. to say, "It was the stinking PDF converter a few days ago that installed and registered old, moldy VB dlls".
That might be true in some cases but that "stinking converter's" installed on the same XP Pro system where I tried todays give away & my visual basic files were & remain completely in tact.
I have no use for an app of this type & only tried it because of all the complaints. It just goes to show that whats wrong on one system isn't on the next one.
And, for those wondering, I scanned the download as well as the program file with NOD32, Spy Sweeper & Spy Emergency 2008. All gave it a clean bill of health

I also have the resolution problem. My graphic card even has no option 1024X768 at the moment, only 768X1024 - perhaps because I am using pivot.
And this little naughty program does not like it. It just wants 1024X768, not 768X1024. Not to mention that normally I am using much higher resolution. I need pivot at the moment (editing large texts and browsing many texts webpages), so... bye, bye, AllMedia Grabber...

@Mansion Trash: I'm confused - this program needs a resolution of 1024×768?
Or does it rather need a resolution of _at_least_ 1024x768? That wouldn't be that much of a problem then, I think. At least not for the vast majority of users nowadays.

"When I run the setup it says my Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files are out of date, click ok to download the current files or cancel to exit setup. I immediately went to Microsoft and downloaded the up-to-date files and installed them. When I went to install this program it still said the files were out of date.

I’d like to know just what this program is trying to download onto my computer because it’s obviously not updating the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files.

I’m going to pass on this software for now."

Note you are probably wrong here. It was the stinking PDF converter a few days ago that installed and registered old, moldy VB dlls. This is seeing that and saying that you need newer files, IOW this is probably helping fix your machine from the carp PDF thing the other day.
