In answer to #18 Mike,
I submitted it to Jotti's for multiple scans and 21 different anti-virus programs found '0' problems!!! ;o)

I'm using this on 64bit Windows 7 without any problems.
I normally complain about the steady diet of converters that GAOTD feeds us. This is a good one!
I still hope that GAOTD provides us a variety of goodies. This is a rare exception that I won't complain.

Installed fine on Win XP Pro
Activation required manually entering license key even though automatic activation said complete.
Very simplistic GUI - 2 choices: DL new or convert old; no config settings.
Showed progress bar in DL window while DLing as well as an (erroneous), estimated time to complete. Ambiguous choices after DL complete: "Finish" meant return to opening window; "Exit" meant end program. Logging apparently does not work. Nothing was logged.
The "DL new" selection is very useful if you want to DL a bunch of YT videos. It opens a dialog window allowing you to paste 1 or more YT URLs which the program will then DL into your chosen folder. It will use each video's title the file names. This is a painless way to DL a lot of videos from a playlist. It is a bit slow as it DLs sequentially instead of multiple threads but it is convenient. However, YT2MP3 will only DL the lo res (FLV) version of the video, even if the higher res (MP4) versions exist. If you want the hi res versions you need the Download Helper extension for Firefox.
I didn't try to convert any existing files.
I will keep the program to use as a YT DL manager for batch DLs.

Isn't it a waste of time and money to develop such an application? We have tons of converters, rippers, etc. Thanks a lot GAOTD but please stop torturing us...

Tried MP3 conversion of existing file first and it said it failed. Then did the same file to WMA and it succeeded. However, upon opening the folder that the WMA file was in, the MP3 file was also there and plays beautifully. Don't know what went wrong with it, but it is a good little app and as free, a keeper. I would not pay $29.95 for it though.
If you have problems - there is no support for it on the website and the "Help" merely brings up a page for another product. Maybe it is too new to have anything... let's hope that is all it is.
Thanks GAOTD and CoolMedia!

It is being reported on fatwallet that this "freebie" is carrying a trojan. Multiple AV detections.

There is no "help" file at all. If you go to the help file, you are given two links, each of which simply go to their web site, where you are shown an advertisement for other products they sell. There also is a third link, marked "more tools." If you click on that, you again are directed to the same advertisements for other products. For fee this is ok, but otherwise....shoddy.

Many of this type of prog., are now being blocked by Google, who now own YouTube. For an alternave that works 100% try Free version of Real Player which also works on many other sites.

Downloaded, and installed easy less then 3 minutes whole process. Very simple look just 5 buttons. Not quite sure how to set up what folder to use for downloading and converting because it saved in my documents and I had to "fetch" for it.. It has a lot of options which is nice MP#, WAV , etc. Quality is pretty good. Converting takes 3 seconds. Downloaded with speed of 45 KB/S on DSL connections which is good average. I used others where I had to forget about it until is finished . This speed is impressive.
Thank you for this program.

There are plugins to Firefox that do this...

It installed fine on my Vista 64.
I have been looking for a program to use to download songs off of YouTube. I used to use Freecorder Toolbar, but it doesn't work on Vista 64.
Frankly I am impressed. First it downloads the flv and then allows you to convert it.
It is simple and easy to use.
I think it is a great program.

This program is pretty OK.
There are already thousands of Youtube converters out on the internet, this is like all the rest.

INSTALLED TO OS: XP Home - Build 2600 - SP3
NOTES:
1. Smooth/fast installation and registration.
2. A visually pleasant interface. Nice looking icons/images. Developer may wish to consider reducing the amount of vacant white-space (could help tighten-up the look).
3. The “More tools . . .” link on the left-side of interface gives the impression it is an access point for additional settings and tweaks for file conversion. However clicking this opened a browser window to Cool Media home page (http://www.coolrecordedit.com/) featuring the “Cool RecordEdit Pro 7″(a more appropriate location for this link might be within the "help" section).
4. Nice stylized, drop-down menu-action when clicking the “Help” button.
5. The Help Menu - Listed below is each option within the “Help Menu” and what actually transpired upon selecting the option:a) Selecting “Help Content F1″ - opened browser window to Cool Media home page featuring the “Cool RecordEdit Pro 7″ (a more helpful destination would be an actual “Help Content” page.b) Selecting “Quick Start” - opened browser window to Cool Media home page featuring the “Cool RecordEdit Pro 7″ (a more helpful destination would be an actual “Cool You-Tube To MP3 Converter QuickStart Guide") No QSGuide was located on the site.c) Selecting “Home Page” - opened browser window to Cool Media home page featuring the “Cool RecordEdit Pro 7″d) Selecting “Related Tools” - opened browser window to Cool Media home page featuring the “Cool RecordEdit Pro 7″ - This page could vaguely qualify as “related tools” for other programs are listed here.e) Contact Technical Support” - selecting this option did not send the user to the company website as expected - instead started the email handling program installed locally on my PC, opening a blank email addressed to support - old school style.f) Selecting “About” - opened the normally expected pop-up with file and version info and supporting links.
8. The ability to name new converted files instead of a directory would improve usability.
9. Files downloaded as expected. Suggestion: Direct access to the URL from within the program would be helpful (i.e -"the copy - close - paste - return to YouTube - copy - close - paste - repeat" routine didn’t feel very polished. In addition, once a URL was copied the user is obligated to download and convert the file as no option to individually activate or de-activate selected URLs/files was provided.
10. Tested 5 random files - each converted properly with a level of audio quality one may expect from YouTube downloads.
CONCLUSION:In a market that seems to be saturated with similar programs, most of us know enough about these that if needed we can “feel our way through” in order to get the desired results. However, I found myself wondering about the customer who may actually be unfamiliar with these processes and need a help file or two. At the risk of being shown by another GAOTD member that “it was right in front of my face", I honestly could not locate the quick-start, support files or information specifically geared towards explaining the operation of this program. . . . and while moving logically forward through the program revealed additional features, some genuine effort to improve help files and program features would help to ensure that newbies do not become frustrated.
Overall, while ascetically the program wasn’t too bad at all, there are additional programs that offer more for less investment . . . and the constant redirection to the company’s home page from the program's help-section which offered no real direction or solutions was enough for me to cease use of the program. Uninstall? . . . this time, I'm afraid it's more a matter of opinion than failure to deliver.
Thank you GAOTD, I very much appreciate the opportunity to evaluate this program.

Nice software works well on xp sp3. Publisher may wish to correct grammar on completion window... change successed to either successful or succeeded or, maybe, success and fail. Thank you GOTD.

This works extremely well.
Installation and registration without any problems.
I converted an AVI clip I had already downloaded, and another from the URL directly...both worked perfectly and sound fine. In addition, working from the URL gives you the clip in .flv as well as MP3! Other options are also possible including MP4, WMA, WMV, WAV, AMR, AVI, MPG, 3GP, MOV etc.
Thumbs up.

A lovely program, with superior quality of workmanship in screen design! Its the sort of quality we are used to from Apple's history in its look and feel. Its worth something. I would have paid a quick ten bucks for it - or more!
