Fabulous program. With thanks. One thing: As a classical music reviewer (Concertonet.com), I don't see anywhere in the title line to list Composer. You have Artist, Publisher, Genre, Time etc etc. And composer is listed in the box, once a piece is chosen. Can I add the Composer listing on the title line?

For me the best features is in getting cover art and lyrics from the internet for each mp3 file.
I noticed that on some files the cover art does not attach itself to the mp3 file.
Apart from my F-secure program trying to reject it everything works well.

Your Antivirus program may be preventing it from running. I took a change as told my antivirus program to ignore it.

Microsoft breaks a lot of things, and WIndows 10 most often breaks itself.

Try rebooting in safe mode and then immediately try Zortam MP3 Media Studio.

If it then works, then Microsoft and or other programs are in your way, kill them ( or work in "safe mode with networking" more often ).

Web search [ reboot in safe mode windows 10 ].

I uninstalled, turned off antivirus, and installed again, same result. If the program can't run in Windows 10, a perfectly fine OS, then it needs to be updated. Does it output a log file anywhere that might give a clue as to the actual cause of the failure?

The folders and files are in Program Files (x86), and in Start Menu folder, and it shows up in the Start Menu, but does nothing. In Control Panel, Programs it is NOT listed. Meaning, I guess that it did not fully install correctly???

At this point, as the GOTD day has passed, will an attempted reinstall if I totally unistall Kaspersky's antivirus first, like I have needed to do with a few other other things, even complete, or will it complain that it is non longer eligible?

[ Steven R ],

If it runs in [ Safe Mode ], then it's ok, and something that loads in virtual mode ( ! ) is in the way.

So either find what's competing, or use [ Safe Mode ] more often.

I often use [ Safe Mode with networking ] as a "get things done" mode.

Peter Blaise, Rebooting in safe mode is too much of a hastle just to try an app. Everything else I use doesn't have this problem. Fix the app so it works in normal mode.

[ Steven R ],

My point is that you do not know it it works in "normal" virtual mode or not, maybe something else is misbehaving ( especially Microsoft's own programs, updates, and patches ).

[ Safe mode with networking ] is just another resource to let you use your computer with minimum interference, and it help you isolate which programs are well-behaved from programs that are not well-behaved -- do not be afraid of safe mode, do not be unfamiliar with safe mode.

You da boss, not Microsoft's virtual but virtueless machine.

Alternatively, run Zortam MP3 Media Studio from a USB drive and try it on any of your computers.

Works for me.

If you become unafraid of safe mode and familiar with safe mode, and tell us what you find, then we may be able to help it work for you, too.

You're welcome.

How do we resolve the "illegal copy" and total program failure caused by today's GOTD installation?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and my previous version was working before today, but now nothing works, old or new version, all are suddenly "illegal".

Blind Squirrel, sometimes it does happens that license needs to be entered manually. In that case you can just enter license code manually.

[ Zortam Support ],

For me, manual entry of name and number also fails, and my prior working version now also fails.

Today's GOTD installation totally messed up Zortam MP3 Studio, and now no version will install and run, all are considered "illegal" at startup, all deny any entry of name and number, and all exit immediately thereafter, even uninstalling and rebooting in between reinstallations does not resolve the complete and total elimination of any version of Zortam MP3 Studio from working at all on my computer.

Now what?

Installed easily on my Win 7 Home Premium sp1; imported from iTunes very quickly. So far so good....but neither "skip to next song" or "previous song" works! I'm very not impressed with the way Zortram handles the playlist. If I select more than one song "skip" repeats the first song, no other options. Whatever else it may do well, I can't see using it for playing music. Zortram does a good job of identifying the group/singer of the song I selected from my library and then accesses songs from the same group on youtube and plays them...very nice...but I can't download them and add them to my library. But wait, I found a download function hidden in the play-youtube function...however, I have no idea where it saved the the download. This is getting way too complicated for me--functions should be simple and intuitively obvious...to the user, not the programmer.

To tag any music files, they must be music files on your hard drive.

So, in order to tag your music on Google Play,
-- first download them to your hard drive,

-- then re-upload them to Google Play.

The only feature i was interested in immediately was the YouTube To MP3 Converter.

And well, what to say, it absolutely doesn't do anything. Whatever i enter into the search bar, there is no response or result, not any. No matter if it's a word or a direct link to the video. The window stays empty. It's pretty useless.

https://i.imgur.com/BohVMx5.png

Also tried disabling firewall temporarily. Reinstall. Nada. I'm almost inclined to believe it's simply a restriction or broken feature in the giveway version.

Not very impressed by this.

Zortam Support, i reinstalled again today and it worked. I don't know what it was exactly that blocked the downloader earlier, i thought it might have to do with my hosts file, since i have lots of Google ads blocked in there but that wasn't it. Maybe the restart of my PC did the trick.

Rena, "Do you have to enter the license somewhere?"

Yeah, wish I knew, too! Bit late to ask now though -- only 15 minutes left on the offer! I presume it registered itself, as there was NOWHERE (visible) to register the info provided, and I did notice it had put the NAME they said we should enter. But, as I had an older version on my computer, I wasn't QUITE sure if it was the previous version.... I wonder why nobody (esp. Zortam) bothered to respond to this.... No doubt because it DOES self-register... But as it seems such a useful programme, I don't wanna find out later that it didn't....

Tranmontane, -- Unusually, with so many comments, and with my interest high, I started reading from the bottom up.... And at #26, I see there basically IS an answer to this.... It DOES self-register... So if like me you started reading from the bottom, just continue towards the top -- the answer to the question, does it self-register, seems to be YES (at #26). Thanks Zortam -- seems to be a good and useful programme....

[ Ken ],

I typed search terms [ the rutles ] and hit [ Enter ] and it balked, not showing me anything.

So I tried just the simpler term [ rutles ] [ Enter ] and it worked, and downloaded and converted short songs.

But there was a 1-hour item to download that was taking forever and seemed locked up, not showing progress or anything.

I killed Zortam MP3 Music Studio via [ Task Manager ], and saw that there was no long conversion in the group of downloads, I'm not sure what it was doing for so long before I killed it.

Zortam MP3 Music Studio does not offer much information on what it finds at YouTube, just a title, no picture, icon, no preview to play, hear, or watch, nor does it show much of what it is doing, just announcing [ Downloading ... ] then [ Completed ] then [ Converting to MP3 ] then [ Done ], no progress percentage or indicator.

YouTube is quirky, and changes download access often, so try other YouTube downloaders, and update them to their current offering before giving up.

We can also try free AbelsSoft [ YouTube Song Downloader ], which does have more information on each item it finds, along with a preview player, and there are other free alternative YouTube dowloader programs.

Hammerdown58,

It's likely because your 'songs' are not tagged and not all in the same directory or on the same hard drive.

Reply   |   Comment by Mothman  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

[ Hammerdown58 ],

[ 1 ] MP3 ONLY:

Zortam MP3 Media Studio only "sees" MP3 music files, not FLAC, M4A, WMA, WAV, or other music file formats, so if you have any music files in non-MP3 format, that may explain.

It has a WAV to MP3 converter, we just manually have to [ + Add ] and browse and find WAV files, but we can search in the Microsoft File Explorer window for [ *.wav ] within any subdirectory structure, then [ Ctrl ][ A ] select them all, even though the results may be in different directories, and then add the found WAV files in one action to then be converted to MP3.

[ 2 ] OTHER DIRECTORIES?:

Zortam MP3 Media Studio initially only looks in our default music directory and it's subdirectories, so if you have music files in other locations, either move them to your default music directory structure, or add them using the program's menu choices [ File ], [ Add Folder to MP3 Library ], [ Browse for a Folder ], select a folder, then [ OK ] ... and repeat for additional folders to be included.

To the developer:

You are a bit presumptuous when you pounce on my screen that this is an illegal copy of the program, please do not accuse us of such criminal behavior.

I presume that your program saw my prior legal license from my prior legally licensed version of your program and because this is a new version of your program, it considered the prior license inappropriate for this version.

So what?

Do not ever, ever, ever, ever have your own programs automatically accuse your own users of criminal behavior.

Thank you.

Dear fellow GOTD folks,

Zortam resolved the failure-to-register problem for me through their website support -- thanks Zortam.

However, their program still has the "illegal" reference inside it that might appear for anyone at any time, so I hope no one feels personally accused and at-risk by it, and I hope Zortam removes such inappropriate messages from the program ASAP.

A mere "license name / code mismatch, please contact support, or purchase a new license" message is all that's needed ... and then revert to the free version instead of exiting out and failing to run altogether, driving wanna-be Zortam users to move on to other products.

[ Tino Juarez ],

And the program itself is internally labeled v22, not v24.

On the one hand, if it's a solo mission by one programmer, keeping it updated and audited is an overwhelming nightmare.

But on the other hand, I guess that here at GOTD is where the programmer can get beta-like testing and feedback.

So ... GOTD = Gamma-tester Of The Day ( one level beyond internal Alpha-and Beta-testers? ).

32-bit wise, there is no problem running 32-bit programs under 64-bit operating system.

But, yes, the program internally does claim:
-- processorArchitecture="X86"
-- type="win32"
-- "Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" version="6.0.0.0" processorArchitecture="X86"

If it froze, either you are impatient and might see it unfreeze if you wait, or you may have a corrupt MP3 file, even though it may play, the metadata may be corrupt, so, explore and find and fix it by other means.

However, this program ought to be the ONE program to find and fix corrupt MP3 files, one would think!

Maybe that feature is coming in v25?

Besides, I also have found some bugs like improperly handling text like Latin accents and Umlauts etc. Chinese, Japanese, Arabic? Forget it. This name: マレーネ・ディートリッヒ is displayed as: ^I|M{G#|HjCR.
Thanks, but no thanks. Maybe next time when all bugs are fixed.

Apparently no can do in this version.

installs ok, but when it opens and does initial search for music, it freezes after finding all my music (approx 5.5GB). However, if I cancel the initial search quickly enough, it shows some of the music files and works. Is there a limit the size of overall files?

[ Jon ],

Works for me on 60+ GB, 6,000+ audio files.

You may have corrupt music file somewhere, even if it plays, the metadata may be bad.

I'd turn off auto-scan-on-load, then clear all prior sets, then work on one directory at a time just to load and find the interfering file.

Free Musicbrainz Picard and other MP3 tag editors may also help find and edit / clear the one or more music files with bad / corrupt metadata.

Sometimes I have to edit the file in Windows File Explorer [ Properties ] for the file.

Of re-download / re-rip the file.

Let us know what you find -- thanks.

To STOP Zortam MP3 Music Studio from auto-scanning on startup, hit:

[ Ctrl ][ N], [ Cancel ]

What this does is
-- start to create a new library,
-- thereby clearing the display of any current library.

-- But by canceling, we do not create a new library, and yet we have already cleared the display of any prior library.

-- So then, Zortam MP3 Music Studio will load with no library, displaying nothing, scanning nothing, and patiently awaiting our instructions.

We can then load one folder at a time ... say, maybe only one album, and see how it goes as we learn on only a few files at first.

If we always exit Zortam MP3 Music Studio by hitting

[ Ctrl ][ N], [ Cancel ]

... then the next time we open Zortam MP3 Music Studio, it will open up blank, do nothing, and await our instructions.

Perhaps v25 will have a setup option

[ do not scan on startup ]

... BUT it would then need to also display a warning that a scan has not taken place, otherwise folks would complain that it can't find their music files ( because it's hasn't looked, yet, of course ! ).

It's a struggle for programmers to decide if they are going to open to a blank page like MS Word with no list of all documents, or open like iTunes with all your music in your face,

... there is no right way, but it makes sense to have options for one, or the other.

The other critical option we are struggling with is auto-move or auto-copy where programs decide to build their own libraries, destroying our current storage scheme, especially book readers do this.

Zortam MP3 Music Studio does not move our files, it just fixes them in place,

... but it does build new directories when ripping CDs, so make sure the choices for that are to your liking in

[ Tools ][ Options ][ CD ripper ]

Chrome says "Zortammp3media...zip is not commonly downloaded and may be dangereous.
This is the first time I see this message, isn't it weird?

ibrahim cakir, no it's normal message. I hate the feeling that every file should be made by Google way or have such unnecessary messages, like yours.

Read the message carefully and put it in context ... every NEW release of any program will be "not usually downloaded" because, hey, it NEW, and we are the first to download it!

Such is Google's and Norton's and other "watcher / advisor" program's dependence on the crowd / cloud for early warnings and approval of NEW stuff -- we will be seeing more of this type of feedback.

Continue the download and use whatever alternate methods to accept it, then always scan any downloaded file at free VirusTotal, and then interpret the report there to see if you are comfortable with the file.

We all can also first try the trial versions at the maker's web site to compare to the GOTD file to see if there are any differences -- hey, if GOTD ever gets compromised and infected, it's up to us to catch that and report it.

How does the lifetime license being advertised at a 50% discount differ from the license being offered here? Does it apply to a more full-featured program? Does it include new versions and updates? Does it cover a different time period?

Nemo, lifetime license is offering full-featured program with all new updates and offers our support for users.

Zortam Support, according to the website:

Version 24 License $19.95
Now Only: $14.96 (25 % off)

Entitles you to all 24.xx upgrades.

So we are getting the 'Version 24' that has all Ver 24 updates, until Ver 25 comes out, correct?

[ Zortam Support ],

When clicking [ Help], [ About ], it says:

[ ... Zortam Mp3 Media Studio is free for personal use ... ]

... implying that the ONLY things the Pro / paid / licensed version brings are
-- non-program services, such as support,
-- permission to use in commercial transactions,
-- permission to use by a professional who's paid-for-services are fulfilled by using this software.

So, for home / personal / non-professional / non-commercial users, the downloading and use of the current version, self-updated by us whenever we notice a new version is available, is always a fully enabled and fully functional version of Zortam MP3 Music Studio, no licensing needed, right?

[ Zortam Support ],

Ah, so the difference between the free and the paid / pro versions is that the free version only works on MP3tg for one song at a time.

I wish it the paid / pro version would revert to the free version when it self-identifies as not having a matching registration name and registration code, rather than exit altogether and not work at all, as it seems to have done for me.

It looks like most other Music Management softwares but the real turning on feature is how it can Normalize volume level of your Mp3 collection to specific volume, so every song you play will have the same volume. You can change volume of normalization in Options menu
Default volume of normalization is 89.0 dB. If you want your song to be louder just increase volume from 89.0 dB to higher volume. You can also undo normalization if you don't like your new volume.

Ali, thanks for the comment on Normalisation. Normally it takes a lot for me to bother with GotD offers, but this one feature might make this a keeper for me.

[ Kim Olsen ],

If you mean [ MP3Gain ] from [ sourceforge net ], that is what Zortam MP3 Music Studio uses, also, default

[ Tools ], [ Options ], [ Normalization }

... set to 94.5 db, and user-adjustable.

Some tags may remember prior settings, so sometimes it can be undone ( or ignored, there are no standards ! ).

[ Ali ],

The default normalization in my Zortam MP3 Media Studio installation is 95.4 db -- where do you find 89.0 db as a default normalization?

Do folks find that 94.5 db clips and is harsh, but 89 db has a softer, smoother, less harsh loud compression?
