I had to come back to say I had liked it. You may say you can get the official Microsoft XLSX and the XLS viewers free of charge, or something else, but this app is very good for a lowly powered PC like mine, where any other program including the one from Microsoft just takes too much time to load. Yes, the downside is kinda outdated interface, but for a quick view, you can't beat it. In my Sony Vaio VPCY2 2011 laptop (yes, you read it right) with 4GB RAM and 5400 rpm drive, even one of the lightest office software, WPS Office, crawls with the same file. Thanks ByteScout and GAOTD.

Although we are grateful for ByteScout offer of giveaway.
Please be informed that you can get the official Microsoft XLSX and the XLS viewers free of charge from Microsoft Store.
In addition, Softpedia has reviewed ByteScout XLS Viewer and said the following:

{ On the other hand, it displayed errors on multiple occasions when we attempted to open files. Too bad that Bytescout XLS Viewer hasn't been updated for a long time, and this can be clearly noticed by taking one look at its interface. }

This software can be useful on a pc wher You WANT to see a file but NOT to modify it, for example in a pharmaceutical company.

Alosha, XML yes, but a spreadsheet is XLS - they are two completely different things.

This tool says it is for commercial purposes, which means that it is to be used in offices. But most offices will already have MS Office installed.

I think a viewer like this would be more useful at homes where a person may not have MS Office (as the free Office alternatives usually will do for normal home usage).

The website states that "The tool can be used for commercial purposes only." So not for home/personal use then?

TH, Just omit the "Only", and you can then see that we can also use it.

TH, use it while watching television : but ONLY when the commercials are on.

Unsure of the purpose of this. Years ago (Office 95 days) an Office viewer was essential for people who didn't have Office and couldn't afford the cost. However these days Office alternatives are not only free, but too numerous to pick a decent one.
A viewer is handy, but there will always be that time when you also need to edit and amend a spreadsheet - just change the title, the footer or remove that value.
This program seems lightweight at only 9 MB, but considering some Office suites are only 90 MB or so, I don't think many people are stretched with their hard drive space.
A useful program ten or fifteen years ago, but free software has cornered this end of the market. Maybe.

Chris, I have a family member that I make Excel sheets for. I cannot trust him to edit these sheets, because no matter how I try and secure the sheets, he always manages to screw things up. A tool like this one is a godsend for him. He can open the sheets and view the contents, but cannot alter anything.

Chris, yes, agreed. But, third world countries might use this.

Morgan Potye, So this is Viewer Lithuania Corporate 1992 Edition.

Reply   |   Comment by Poor Guy  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Morgan Potye, no, pirated office and another free office alternative like LibreOffice and WPS Office were more popular rather than just office document viewer. It often preinstalled either by shop or computer vendor when you buy new computer in most 3rd world countries so you probably never bother for the document viewer like this...
