A few days after the giveaway, but better late than never.
I had tried converting a .mts file to something more user friendly with a bunch of older GAOTD video softwares that I had accumulated over the years. I even tried to find something that was free and newer online, and had absolutely no luck. Each and every conversions was choppy and unusable. I decided to give this one a shot, and omg, it worked! I shot a 34 minute graduation video, that needed conversion that others would be able to view. I don't recall how long it took to convert, over an hour though, it took my .mts file and converted it to .avi, without any loss of quality between the two.
Had no issues downloading or retrieving the key on my yahoo account.
VERY HAPPY, thank you Flash-Integro and GAOTD.

I installed VSDC two days ago and submitted the request for the activation code as instructed - nothing yet. Sent a request to 'support@videosoftdev.com' and no reply after a day. So it is now approaching 48 hours, no code and just discovered in my in-box, a "Delayed Mail (still being retried)" for the support address. This is looking like a disappointment.......

My VDSC Pro version from a former Giveaway has reverted to free version after a while, NOT A LIFELONG LICENSE IMHO! THIS HAPPENED TO ME ALREADY TWO TIMES UNDER WINDOWS 10, so I don`t think this happens accidently. And I noticed, that users who also mentioned same issue got downvoted! Maybe by people involved with the developer. Giveaway of the day please step in!

so just reactivate the s/w with the code if you still have,

No key.

Also, I have been testing this software out. I don't love it, and I suspect I won't use it. The interface is too hard to use.

It's essential that things like forward and backward buttons can auto repeat. Also, variable speed of stepping is key. I tried to set a start point on a couple of videos (.ts) and it was impossible to find it. I expect editing them will be a nightmare.

Pity. It might have been a good program.

The key arrived after a while but the interface for editing videos (which is critical) is incredibly poor. I tried editing a couple of videos (recorded from TV) and gave up in disgust.

I don't see myself ever using this.

Any suggestions on a good freeware editor that lets you trim TV clips and delete ads?

We might experience some slight server overload because of the huge number of requests, and that's why activation keys are sent with a delay.

Just an update: The program now shows "PRO" after a windows restart. I guess the activation message should state "reboot your system to activate" rather than "restart VSDC to activate" unless this problem was unique to me. Anyway, thanks for a great program and to GAOTD.

Reply   |   Comment by William Shader  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

William Shader,

I noticed the same thing; after a restart, the program was still not activated. I tried restarting a second time, and this time it worked. I did not have to restart the computer. Rebooting effectively did the same thing.

It may be different for users that had a previous version installed since the registry keys would already be there. Those users may not have had to restart the program twice. Even if a previous version was uninstalled, the standard uninstaller generally leaves enough tracking information behind that the new installer will know about previous installs. You would need to use a 3rd Party Uninstaller program, and sometimes they cannot remove all traces of previous installs. I wonder if anyone else had to restart more than once to get the activation to stick, and whether they had a previous version installed or not, and whether a previous had been uninstalled with the standard uninstaller or a 3rd Party tool.

Here is a message on their website :
"VSDC Video Editor Help is available for download in the .pdf format only to registered users of the Pro version. All the new Pro subscribers receive this link in the email with an activation key." There is a link in the email but no place to get the .pdf for the pro version. There are some links to open help pages for the free version. No problems getting the registration code, but figuring out that you do not get an automatic desktop link to the exe program was a bit unsettling... thought I'd lost my mind until I REALIZED A SYSTEM RESTART WAS NECESSSARY: Once that was accomplished I discovered no link on the desktop to start program. Added one manually and the program (once it had sorted through about 45 seconds of files) opened up. At that point, the button to "Activate" the program and insert the code became visible... and so we are now experimenting with the proggie.

Whee!

Reply   |   Comment by Vincent M Brennan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Vincent M Brennan,

A system restart was not necessary, but I found that two restarts of the program was, at least for some users. Several mentioned that after a restart, the program was still not activated. I found that a second restart, the activation stuck. if someone tried restarting and saw that the program still was not activated, a system restart would cause the program to be restarted twice, and thus might presume it was required.

In the not too far distant history of program installs, system restarts were common. These days it is not as common. When PCs first started being used, there was usually a single user, so a restart was not a major problem. For mainframes, a restart would/could affect lots of users, so a restart was never part of adding a new program. I always thought that PC programs should be able to do the same. Since PCs now can have multiple users, and in the case of servers, working at the same time, install programs have had to adapt. If you ever come across a program that still requires a system restart, you should complain to the developer to catch up with the current standards.

Only since there was no mention of a system restart needed, I stubbornly restarted a second time, and discovered it worked. If my second one had not worked, I too would have tried a system restart. If it worked, then I would make a suggestion to the developer that they should either update the install notes or they need to work on getting the installer to work without a restart.

I am confused !

Supposed to be a lifetime license, BUT, the "License Agreement states the following:

"2. Install and use the premium version of the Product, released under the brand VSDC Pro Video Editor, for personal and commercial use by purchasing a one-year subscription. In this case each subscription is bound to one user. "User" means the company, entity or individual whose funds are used to pay the subscription fee. This subscription is not transferable to any another organization or individual. Each activation key is valid for two activations. It shall not make work by two users applicable but give you an opportunity to reinstall the VSDC Pro Video Editor in case of possible hardware or hard drives failures or upgrades."

Clearly the agreement states a "one year subscription".

I have downloaded and installed a version of VSDC from here in the past ( I forget which one ) and the license expired after a year.

I'm going to take the chance and try again.

Reply   |   Comment by hjb  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

hjb,

The best defense against this situation is to periodically make an image of your boot partition (C:, usually), with the imaging software of your choice. This backup regimen -- parallel to any separate *data* backups you make -- allows you to return to an earlier operating system status, exactly. That way, you would only lose those program installs and updates since the last image was made. It's not perfect, and I should probably be doing this myself more often than the couple-months intervals at which I usually manage to do it, but it is so much better than having to do everything -- Windows + many, many apps installs + your desktop and other myriad customizations - from zero. In the past, it had taken me a couple weeks work to put everything back: no kidding, and no thanks ! And of course, there would always be some programs that could not be reinstalled, either due to it being a time-limited promo / giveaway, or for some other reason.

The imaging program I have relied upon is Acronis True Image, but there are a number of other good ones, like Shadow Protect. Most are paid programs, but I think the one from Easeus may still be free.

I'm not going to add to the dozens of comments on here which have nothing at all to do with the actual performance of today's giveaway. Instead, I'll say this:

(1) in the world of home video editing, Cyberlink's PowerDirector is king. Well, it is as far as I'm concerned, and I've lost track of the number of video editors that have passed through my hands over the years. But PowerDirector is BIG. And PowerDirector isn't cheap. And PowerDirector is to video editing what Adobe CS is to photo editing: it has features more suited to specialists rather than everyday 'ordinary' users. In which case, what to choose? Answer:

(2) VSDC PRO. Today's giveaway. I've used this software almost from the day it was first launched and yes, I have the Pro license (which still costs very little.) Today, it's free. And seems to offer lifetime upgrades.

On which basis, anyone with the slightest interest in video editing should snap it up. It's beautifully engineered, mature, stable, competent, and like all the best technology out there has far more under the hood than is evident at first sight.

I could likely provide several dozen tips here on how to use it but as neither time nor column space allow that, would instead suggest that users access the product manual (available to Pro users only) as a first step and then read through it. Yes, it has its faults in the way of some ambiguities and omissions but it's still a great help.

Also worth emphasizing is that when working in the editing ('snip') mode, maximize the window to let it float on top of the GUI screen; don't leave it in its preview state, as I've actually seen some other people do. Remember, too, to slooooooow down video footage in snip mode so that the time intervals are clear enough to allow effective editing. . . and remember, also, to ensure the mouse-controlled editing markers are firmly in place in 'start' and 'end' positions so as to ensure accurate cutting. Stuff that's edited out will be listed cut-by-cut in a separate panel; cuts are only permanently removed when the user requires that.

It's also well worth visiting YouTube for VSDC tutorials and downloading them, because the total out there is considerable -- some pretty awful, as to be expected, but many that are very useful indeed and easy to follow.

Thanks then, GOTD, for today's offer, but as I'm already a longterm VSDC user, I'll pass. Others interested in this software genre though who don't have VSDC Pro should seize it with both hands.

VSDC Pro Video Editor is an excellent and attractively designed video editor.

Being given a lifetime license is a big plus. Many thanks to the team at Flash-Integro LLC for this, and especially for regularly providing updated versions!

I'm sure we all wish that other GOTD vendor offerings also would provide lifetime licenses (and not provide annoying time-limited srvices offerings such as only 6 months).

Thanks, this is a great giveaway! No problem getting my key or activating. It's a little confusing as the desktop icon says it's the free version, though when you open the app it clearly shows it's the Pro version (you may want to make the desktop icon a little more generic in the future, I just renamed it).

I have a question though. Now that GoPro has released their Cineform codec to the public domain (https://gopro.github.io/cineform-sdk/), are you considering adding Cineform support to this package for both input, output and conversion?

Thanks,

James

The captcha characters for obtaining the license are impossible for humans to understand, let along marauding computers. A total exercise in stupidity.
The coders keeping themselves employed have really excelled themselves with this one. Having tried a number of the captchas with failure each time, I am doubtful if I will be able to register this program.

Bruce Coxon,

I had no problem with the VSDC captcha characters -- very much unlike with the pictorial captchas required for posting here on GAotD, which I've complained about before. (Or was I thinking of that *other* giveaway site ? Both, probably.) Out-of-focus, underlit pix with tiny details that are extremely hard to make out. Is the pole considered to be part of the street sign ? Doesn't matter apparently: you click on all the plausible answers, only to keep being fed more and more endless captchas. So annoying !

Anyway, I received the key for this one from VSDC right away, so that's one more positive vote.

Hello Bruce,
We're sorry you're experiencing problems with the captcha. If after a number of attempts, you're still struggling with reading the characters, feel free to email our support team at support@videosoftdev.com

Reply   |   Comment by VSDC  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Gene: Thanks for your help and commiseration. Since the VSDC support offered to help, I sent them the following message outlining my problems with their captchas. To support:
Thank you for responding to my problem.
I am still having difficulty reading the captchas, even on a different computer than the first one tried.
They are the worst ones I have ever seen.
Some of the characters are grayed out, making them difficult to read, and others overlap each other, or are one on top of the other, with no indication as to which one has precedence in the string, and others have spaces between them, with no indication as to whether the spaces should be inserted, or not. Also, some characters are unrecognizable, or are falling off the edge of the captcha window.
A total nightmare for the would-be user.
These captchas are even worse than the under-lit, tiny pictures mentioned as being so annoying by the other reviewer Gene.

I would be grateful is you could send the license code directly to my email:

Thank you,
Bruce Coxon

It was activated. Thank you.
Those who have not yet received the key, do not forget to register the mail address with the URL indicated in the Readme.
After receiving the key, activate the software, click on the ☓ button of the popup, then enter the key from "registration" in the center of the upper part of the screen.

from vector comments,

I had a somewhat different result: don't know if this is normal, or will remain O.K. (?)

At install, Ver. 5.8.9 offered to first uninstall the prior version -- as was previously mentioned here. I let it do that, then proceed with the new install. At no point did I have any opportunity to apply the new key they sent. On invoking it, the program now says "5.8.9 Pro", displaying the same "2018 Giveawayoftheday" license that ver. 5.8.6 had shown. I think "Activation" remained greyed out, throughout this. Fingers crossed . . . .

How do I get that page?

After 5 minutes of use I can suggest:

1. Add a visual wave form to audio files. Makes it easier to sync external audio to camera audio.

2. Allow cutting / editing video on the timeline not on a pop up window.

3. Add support for LUTs

4. In the export dialog box, H264 settings HW Acceleration offers "Nvidea" acceleration. The company's name is "Nvidia" .

Thanks a lot. Downloaded (the same setup.exe you can get from their website, too), installed. Restarting the PC. Visiting the website given in the ReadMe (same like in the first answer to #22). Inserting name and email. Receiving the code a few seconds later. Entering the code. Restart. All is fine.
In a few minutes, I got a fine program with some nice additional programs.

VSDC thank you for the program and the given lifetime license!
At the same time, I do not understand the people who argue here and assert that the license is only 1 year old. Despite the fact that the representative of the company offering the program replied to many of them that their information was incorrect, and it was also written above that they would add a lifetime license. The company knows only what kind of license has been offered here for this program. Can not you accept it and rejoice it? I would rather thank you, because I often read some of the indignities here for another 1 year license, and it's finally longer, and some of them can not accept it. :)
I got my license key and activated it without any problems. Wait for patience and then arrive to everyone. :)

Very nice video editor indeed, the only thing I would improve is to put some shadow around the subtitles for better visibility. The black box option isn't really ideal.

I'm having the same problem getting a key. The link on the 'read me' file just pulls up a whole page of other links, none of which directs me to where I need to go. I see nothing about filling out a page to get the key sent to my email. If I'm doing something wrong, I can't figure it out.

Jack, from time to time we might experience some slight server overload because of the huge number of requests, and that's why activation keys are sent with a delay. You should receive one shortly.
However, if there is still no key in your inbox within more than 3 hours, please contact us again at support@videosoftdev.com, and we'll send it to your address manually.
Thank you for your patience.

Hi,
Got a few questions that have come up after me reading all comments and the readme file-
1) What is the re install policy on the key?
2)Are all future updates included?
3) Can we activate after the giveaway period?

Reply   |   Comment by Alphaspiderman  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Alphaspiderman, 1) one key is valid for 2 activations 2) updates are common for free and Pro, so, yes
3)yes

Reply   |   Comment by VSDC  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

VSDC,

Thanks for this. I had your 5.8.6 from a previous giveaway here. I am only a rather light and sporadic user, but I have kept several editors, due to things like particular format support or a feature that one offers but the others don't. None of them seem to support ALL the video formats, or do it that well. For example, VideoRedo (is this even still being developed ?) may be the only one I have that handles basic .Mpg format reasonably well, though I did not find the interface particularly easy to use. Strictly for ease of use, I never found anything simpler -- to just pick up and immediately start using it -- than Machete, although it is a very bare-bones, light-duty editor. So, it has remained my "Go To" for quick-cut jobs that don't require any fancy features. (But only for certain formats. It does *not* support .Mpg, and can get picky about some other video formats, though . . . . Pops and ticks creeping into the sound on some edited videos.) I guess once you start to cross over into the more robust feature sets in a video editor, the ease-of-learning / ease-of-use factors start getting more and more elusive. I will be very interested to see what you have done with this new version.

Incidentally, re item #3 from Alphaspiderman, the Readme from GAotD says "Installation and activation" before the end of the giveaway period. More errata ?

By the way, can you say with confidence that VSDC is superior to AviUtill with diversity of functionality and ease of use?
The only weakness of AviUtill is stability, but is VSDCPVE also not having the same weakness?

Bob, the upgrades do not depend on the version - free or Pro. This offer is life-time for Pro

Reply   |   Comment by VSDC  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

from vector comments,
During the install of this program, you have to agree to the License Agreement which very clearly states:

"Install and use the premium version of the Product, released under the brand VSDC Pro Video Editor, for personal and commercial use by purchasing a one-year subscription.

In other words, you have agreed that this VSDC Pro Video Editor version is a 1 year subscription and that you may only use the activation key twice.

from vector comments,
VSDC replied to my posting and said:

"Stu, these terms are for those who purchase a subscription on the website. This giveaway has its own terms and restrictions, see the Readme file.

If for some reasons, you do not trust us, it's up to you to turn to other video editing developers, btw, where have you seen their giveaways recently?"

Clearly they don't change the License Agreement displayed during installation for GiveAwayOfTheDay. So it sounds like they do mean "The license provided is lifetime".
