Every day we offer FREE licensed software you’d have to buy otherwise.
Typing Assistant 5.0 was available as a giveaway on November 1, 2009!
Typing Assistant Auto-Completes your frequently used words and phrases in any Windows application. The program automatically learns the words you type, automatically corrects spelling mistakes, automatically expands user-defined shorthand to full text, automatically accesses clipboard history contents, and automatically launches user-defined application/file/folder so that the more you use the program, the smarter it becomes and the more you find it useful.
Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7; PC with Pentium 600 MHz or higher processor; 64MB RAM or more

This version is designed for French language typing.
This version is designed for German language typing.
This version is designed for Hungarian language typing.
This version is designed for Italian language typing.
This version is designed for Portuguese language typing.
I also agree the opinion that Phrase Express is better. I tried Typing Assistant for days and turned back to Phrase Express.

Thank you giveawayoftheday! I almost missed this giveaway. The tool is helpful for me when I type repetitive text in my job. I am using it to write this message now. It is smart when I type my name, my email address and any long words such as "giveawayoftheday".

I used the previous version given away here and recommended it to all my colleagues in my department (we're technical writers). However, after a while, it started to get in the way because of some screen bugs. However, it was very useful despite the bugs so I'm going to give it a try again. Hopefully, it won't be so buggy this time :). Thanks GAOTD and Sumit Software!

Have fun with this ultimate annoyance... a program that constantly pops up and nags at you. No thanks.

#1 "* Sometimes it works (gives suggestions like it should) and sometimes it doesn’t."
That is a Vista Security restriction, items operating in different security zones cannot interact with each others GUI. If TA is run as an administrator it cannot interact with non-elevated programs. If it is run non-administrator it cannot interact with elevated programs.
It's not random or sometimes, it is entirely predictable and expected.

Only the English version is giveawayoftheday today. But it seems that other language dictionary file can also be imported to the program. I use German_common.bsc file and it works well.

I think this is a great giveaway! I can type at a decent speed and I love this software. I deal with putting my e-mail and username into many things and it is much easier to type 3 letters and press enter than to put in a 13 letter long email. Thank you for the great giveaway , this is a keeper in my book!

I tried Typing Assistant but it got into the way too often.
I will stick with PhraseExpress.

Vista:
1) Its auto-learn function is useful and cool for programmers/developers when they give abnormal English word like 'littledanniel', 'giveawayoftheday', 'getName', etc. You don't have to retype these words if you have this program functioning for you.
2) It works with editor 'Vim' well too.
5/5.

Is the key in the readme.txt file appropriate for other language versions of TA 5.0?

it's alright... I installed it on my work computer and every time a new word is added to the dictionary as I type it makes a really loud beep, which isn't the best here at work... and plus every time I put .com it changes the website to (website).computer, which is also really stupid to me lolz. I probably am going to end up uninstalling this.

The "Real-time suggestion window delay for" option is very important. User should set a suitable value for himself. Usually the bigger value for a faster typist and a smaller value for a slower typist. You will find the suggestion window is annoying if you set a too low value for you.

This program installed perfectly for me, and promises to be invaluable, since I make my living writing on the clock. Thanks GOTD!

Thanks to GAOTD and Typing Assistant developer. This software is very useful for me.
I like the Alt + Left/Right/Up hotkey very much. You needn't define and remember the hotkeys for each pieces of text. For example, just press Alt+Left you can get all the abbreviations list. Then type letter(s) to filter the list. This is better than other text expanders.

Don't bother with this software or any like it, take the time to learn to type properly!
Before long you won't know how to type, and so if you ever need to type anywhere away from home you'll have problems.
If you must use it, take Ashraf's advice and use PhraseExpress instead; it's way better.

@5: Of course, PhraseExpress has a rich library of several thousand AutoCorrect spelling corrections.
Have you really missed that we advertise it on the front page of our website? :-)
PhraseExpress even has probably the most advanced AutoCorrect spelling correction on the market as it can also correct *partial* spelling mistakes.
Example: It corrects "missign", "takign", "doign" with one single correction item "ign" -> "ing" that only takes effect at the end of a word. As far as I know, no other text replacement utility can do that.

I don't see how it is portable. There is a separate 'install' for the portable app & the Giveaway key doesn't work for it.
Anyone know how this is portable?

I love this little program. It comes in handy when I just can't remember how to spell a word. I toggle it on and off very easily from the taskbar. I'm glad to see an update since I'm using an old version posted here some time ago.

This is improved over the earlier versions given away. See their website for upgrading instructions. Whether it's useful depends upon how well you type and whether you like this type of interface. As with most utilities, default hotkeys will conflict with other applications.
This doesn't directly compare with some of the alternatives mentioned, they all have different feature sets.
tinySpell (free or paid) has the as-you-type spelling suggestions, but only for misspelled words.
PhraseExpress (free or paid) is more sophisticated but doesn't actually have a dictionary for checking spelling.
ActiveWords (paid) and Nagarsoft Direct Access 2 (paid) have text expansion and automation features but no dictionaries.
Keybreeze (free for personal use) has pasting and launching abilities.
Numerous clipboard extenders, from free to paid ones like Thornsoft ClipMate, have pasting abilities using abbreviations.

The "Real-time suggestion window delay for" option is very useful. Everyone can set a suitable time for himself. This will avoid the annoying suggestions. I set it to 300ms. The suggestions appear automatically when I hesitate during typing.

If you know how to type this is not much help to those that just type general ithings.
For those that do the same things over and over again then this may be just what you thought you needed so gibe it a try.
I would have no use for other than something to play with for a bit and then dump.

Today's game giveaway had to be cancelled due to technical difficulties, so I've posted some excellent alternatives over in the forums that include a tram and motorcycle simulator, a fututistic basketball game called Jetball, A space orientated platform game called Helillom Planet and an unusual RPG done in the style of a old comic book.
you can find details of each with download links over in the game discussion forums. I've not yet posted any images, but will later today.
