Isn't today's program a contradiction of words, yea you add another running process using who knows how much memory, and then tell me it's gonna speed things up, I don't see how.

Not a really useful program that drains computer resources. As mentioned above, Windows provides means to assign shortcuts to any application, so what's the deal? As suggested a hybrid drive is by far much more productive than a program like this.

No need for this extra "launcher" overload on the PC. Just make folders on the desktop to represent genre of software e.g. photo editors or search software.
Then place the icons linked to each software inside respective folders.
This is fast, intuitive and visual. Click on icon to run the software.

For programs that I use many times on a daily basis links to them reside in a folder on the desktop, this means they're just a few clicks away.
It also means zero impact on my system.

XP-Man, Great Minds think alike. I put all my links in one folder on the desktop named - are you ready for it? - LINKS. I run Win 7 32. When it ceases to work because of MS pinching it off, I will give Linux a try.

Hello,

This is Alessandro from PCWinSoft.

For those of you experimenting problems at installation time you should know it is all a matter of unblocking Internet access to GetServerDate.exe which is a basic phone home in order to get the correct date.

You must allow access on your firewall program and if that alone does not work you have to disable the anti-virus as well like described above on comment #6.

If you get an unexpected error is because GetServerDate could not connect to pcwinsoft.com.

If you just can't make it work then send me an e-mail at pr[at]pcwinsoft[dot]com and you will get help.

Regards,
Alessandro Ferri

Perhaps I am being stupid but why does it need to connect to the internet to do a date check? Why does it not not just use the computer date which has already been obtained from the internet?

Reply   |   Comment by JimF  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

The reason is because there are hackers who change the local date and time to fool the installer into thinking that it is inside the promotion date and the procedure ends up being an unprotected unlocked version of SuperLauncher on hackers websites and torrents.

Ootje :) Could you please confirm if all these GAOTD free programs run on Windows10 without compatibility issues? Thanks.

@8 Ol'Dog

Sorry Ol'Dog, I don't test every GOTD-program on Win 10.
It did happen(once or twice), that a GOTD-program didn't work on Win10. I forgot which one.
But most of the time, when I install a GOTD-program on Win10, it will work.
This is still a still a test version of Win10:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/SuperLauncher193_20150611/Win10.png

And the GOTD-program of today installed just fine under Win10.
Only I had to disable the AVG2015.
It seems to work fine; I did a very, very short test
Paint opened, Goolge opened, editing a item did work.

Windows 8 (and of course 8.1) has already a MegaLauncher on board – the Start screen! If you have Windows 8 just press the Windows button on your keyboard to go there. If you have still an old Windows 7 just wait some weeks to get Windows 10 totally for free!

"...wait some weeks to get Windows 10 totally for free" - never in my life I will take it! MS can keep it...

Reply   |   Comment by Georg  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-26)

@ Georg
"MS can keep it"
What's the reason?

I have the technical build and just works fine. AND fast.
I just have to get used to it.
How can I manipulate it; how can I take the control and not Win10.
That was the same with 98 -> XP.
98 -> WinNT
And a few years ago from CP/M -> DOS

I suppose this could be useful if one liked the UI in exchange for the resource overhead; otherwise, these functions are already built into Windows (program properties and Task Scheduler).

For Win10, I highly recommend downloading build 10130 ISO (Microsoft released it finally) and trying it on a VM at least. I ran it in VirtualBox for a while but switched to it as my production OS a week ago. I'm running Win10 on my desktop with Win10 in a Hyper-V (included with Win10) VM for experimentation. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Note that I never ran Vista and I tried Win8.1 for a week (included with my gaming laptop) and absolutely hated it and replaced it with Win7--and that will be replaced with Win10 this week.

You can provide feedback to Microsoft regarding Win10--whether that actually makes a difference I don't know but we do know the last OS VP was fired ("mutual decision still = fired") for, essentially, not providing users a product they would use.

Same here: also a warning; a different number.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/SuperLauncher193_20150611/Foutmelding.png
Tested on a WinXP-32

Later I have tested on a Win8.1-64 with just a Antivirus, NO firewall(AVG2015).
Also not succesfull:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/SuperLauncher193_20150611/FoutmeldingMetAntivirus.png

After that I totally disabled the Antivirus(AVG2015) for 10 minutes.
And now I did get a result:

The quickest way to open a program has always been built straight into Windows. Click the icon on the Desktop or Taskbar. Open the program with a shortcut key by first editing the properties of the shortcut to the program and adding a shortcut key.

Basic launcher and scheduler, but the downfall is too many keyboard shortcuts to remember, specially if you have many applications installed. For power users who need everything viz a launcher, a scheduler, a reminder, clipboard solution I would like to suggest freeware Power Pro:it does require a bit of attention on the first but once you familiarize it's like a breeze.Customize anything to everything you see on your desktop: Buttons, tool bars, clipboards, sending keystrokes, scheduler, timer, window control, screensaver, power menus the possibilities are endless>> http://powerpro.cresadu.com/index.html

Other simple freeware options you can try:Kana Launcher + Kanareminder>> http://www.kanasolution.com/products/kana-launcher/
Flashtray pro for launching sites, programs and creating macros, textsnippets>> http://www.blacksunsoftware.com/flashtray.html

And other launchers including QuickCliq, PS Hot Launch VVL, autohotkey, etc. the list is endless.

Thank you GAOTD
:)

Mr.AllRounder,

The PowerPro program is incredible. I had never heard of it before. But it is unbelievably detailed and powerful. Better than many of the professional softwares. Thanks for sharing it.

It's useless, anyway. If you want to launch a program that fast, just get a hybrid drive which has some ssd (8GB) or get a straight ssd.

Reply   |   Comment by bart  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-42)

Karl,
your "error" is just due to blocking their "calling home" (your 2nd picture)!...

... but what a mess with this all together:
hundreds of registry entrances and dependencies.

For a launcher: To me an absolute no go and just horrible.
And a Launcher should better be portable, too.

(beside that in Windows there is little need for that...) there are hundreds of launchers out there - most of them for free. And you can even use TotalCommander as a launcher e.g with rows of your favorites, or with switching between groups of menus or(and), or(and), or(and), ....

Bart, for those of us who can't afford a hybrid drive or an SSD this program may be of use as its free today, whereas I'd have to fork out quite a lot of cash; for example, a 1TB SSHD (hybrid) costs around £60 or for an 1TD SSD, well over £200. Of course you could go for smaller drives, but from my experience and with the size of video especially HD and game files; e.g. the latest Toal War game is around 30GB in size, you'd need a 1TB otherwise you'd find the drive filling very quickly.

@wosa

No, in this case I allowed the calling home in the second run, just to see, whether the error is due to the blocked access. Therefor I tried "twice"...

Lieber Karl,
seems you've been too fast.
I've tested this launcher in virt. XP also as in virt. WIN8. In every case installation could be done without problems.
After installation I could not see any further "telefoning-home" from this software.

About if such launchers are helpfull or not could be dicussed controversial. With today launcher its also possible to use it a scheduler. Thats not bad in this comination.

Dear GOTD users,

please note that the program needs to connect to the server for the date check.

If GetServerDate.exe gets blocked by your firewall or antivirus you'll get the error message.

Sorry for the inconvenience and have a nice Giveaway
