To put it simply when your machine is in working order:

"If it is not broken...."
and
"When in doubt...."

PROBLEM-installed OK but registration failed. I entered the serial # (using cut & paste to get it correct) but I get an error "invalid license data". Any one have a suggestion to correct this?

After I installed Sumo Pro 5.12, I looked but could not find the 'Buy KCleaner Pro' button and could not input the license data. There is no button that says 'Buy KCleaner Pro'.

What am I missing?

This software is beyond mediocre.

I'm always on the lookout for software that does a better job than the apps I already use.

Immediately after installing SUMo, I ran an update scan. Out of probably 100+ apps I have on my PC, guess how many SUMo identified as requiring updates. Zero! Zilch. Nada.

Then I ran Iobit's Software Updater which found 3 programs with outdated versions in need of updates.

Next I ran Glarysoft / Filepuma Update Detector which found 5 programs in need of updating.

And -- once again -- how many out-of-date programs did SUMo find? Oh yeah, that's right . . . none!

As far as I'm concerned this is a poorly disguised attempt to convince new users to purchase KC Software's ridiculously overpriced Pro edition . . . which by the way, we were were supposed to receiving (but didn't) in this GOTD.

Listen the developer can't be bothered to update the primitive, ancient-looking GUI. And he/they can't be bothered to develop an algorithm that accurately detects necessary software updates.

I instantly uninstalled this space-wasting app from my PC. I cannot understand why anyone would actually pay for SuMo when free apps from Iobit, Glarysoft (and others) do an better job.

One thing I do not like, the 'Updates' listed are it seems true. However, they do not take into account licensed products. I do not always 'buy' the most recent version when the old one works fine for me.

I also think it doesn't determine the proper version of a program, many have both 32 and 64 bit versions and not all are updated at the same time?

For instance, I've not PAID to update my Acronis True Image 2020 to the 2021 version, and it reports this:

Acronis True Image Home Acronis 24.7.1.38530 Update available (25.8.1.39216)

For my release, .38530, it is the latest 2020 version.

I have many programs listed, and many are licensed versions that do not get updates other than for the time period that is allowed.

I have a lot to look at, I wouldn't blindly update before checking.

IrvSp, Amen to you! A lot of updater programs want me to do an update when the old one works just fine. Often "updates" are just bloatware, or companies installing processes that can spy on you to see what you are doing with their program.
I use Acronis True Image Home 2017 and have no desire to update it.

chances are this uses same updates discovery as Dumo does by just harvesting ALL the software version numbers it finds to its server side database and then assumes the highest reported version number shown by N number of users is probably the latest version and it then tells you if your installed version is lower than the guessed latest version from the harvested and phoned home data... Requires very little human intervention but is vulnerable to version spoofing and do end users really consent to having Kyle build a database of all software and versions of that software installed on their systems? I doubt they have made informed consent choice!

It has no relationship with installed applications developers and has no mechanisim to confirm that the mined version numbers are even legitimate for any given claimed installed program.

Installed OK but reports plain SUMO, not PRO. Therefore, PRO update didn't work either.

This was supposed to be SUMO PRO!!

Sparky, did you change the sumo exe file name und uninstall exe file name first and updated the version then? Look in settings if you can change sumo server update to developer official web site update. If you can, you've got the pro version

Reply   |   Comment by Sara Agai  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi, Sara Agai:
I changed SUMo.exe to SUM1.exe and then tried two things: unins000.exe to unins00.exe (only took me to the page to pay for an update to pro); and unins000.exe to unins001.exe (I wasn't sure exactly what you were doing with these changes). If you were doing what I do when I change, for example, myapp.exe to myapp.exe.old (so the original executable is 'gone' as far as the program is concerned), either of them should work. The part that I'm not sure of is whether I am to make these changes and then execute SUM1.exe or have the program running when I make the changes. I am also not sure whether to make these changes before or after I put in the registration info?

Sparky, Click buy sumo pro and enter the data from the.txt file there

Reply   |   Comment by Luna  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Sparky, I had the program running when I updated.
Also the first thing I did was register the program after installing it. Then I changed the exe file names and then updated automatically from the program

Reply   |   Comment by Sara Agai  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Sparky,
Register the program THEN update by renaming the two files that get updated with the new version as stupid Sumo wont update a file if it sees the file of the same name, already installed.

This is a just a detector and nothing will be installed. Actually, you do not need any of these updates if your computer is running smooth. Update is for new installs of hardware and not for your old audio, video, and other already installed cards. Update may and it will not work on old hardware if the manufacturer has not made an update. The drivers, in my opinion, must be written by the manufacturer of the hardware and not a third party.

This program is still offering Adobe Flash as an update. That is no longer supported, and in fact, Adobe wants people to uninstall it.

Reply   |   Comment by CJ Cotter  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+18)

CJ Cotter, that is because it has no information sharing agreement with Adobe or any other company about updates that have formally been published. It works by mining and reporting back to Kyles server and it agregating installed version numbers i.e. If you have the last version of adobe flash that did not have the kill switch programmed this program will use other users installations that do have later versions that do have the kill switch and assume the higher version is in every way desirable, even though it would kill adobe flash running local offline flash applications.
No one at kcsoftware verifies a higher version number is free, licensed, or functional on any given operating system or does not kill itself after a certain date. End user beware!

I liked this software so much I actually paid for it. It is fantastic, and I never have to concern myself with making sure any of my software is current since SUMo does it all for me.

This has been offered many times on here before and its a good 'un but beware that updating prior GOTD offerings is likely to kill them off as most wont accept updates of any kind - Except this one??

Ok. let me explain.

Install the download of Sumo and be mindful of the destination. Run the program and copy/paste the reg details into the box provided and you now have an up & running version.

Now, be brave here -
Go to the installation folder and rename Sumo.Exe to Sum1.Exe and similarly with the unins000 application (Knock of one of the zeros) - Now back to the program - click on Update and you will get the latest version.

By all means try updating without the above proc but that is what I found I had to do on two machines.
Not hard to do if you know how to rename a file (highlight and right click)

Like I said - a pretty useful offering if used correctly so thanks to GOTD and KC Sofware for this.

I've never been very keen on Sumo so I'll probably remove it, anyway. As someone else mentioned, it's only the basic version. I've always found the interface very 1980s.

... even when I run as an administrator.

Hardly a good start!
