Since this giveaway has expired, anything I write won't have any direct effect on anyone attempting to download it from this site. As someone who has been following this site for many years, I find it fascinating to watch all the different factions of people who lurk this site on a daily basis, usually to play the role of curmudgeon, or perhaps to attempt to impress people with their perception of their own "wisdom" (and in so doing, prove the exact opposite more often than not!).

I've observed that if you want to stir up controversy and flame wars, there's nothing that will accomplish that goal better than a simple screen saver. If you can find a way to incorporate a few "sacred cows" into the mix, so much the better - the fur will quickly begin to fly, with name-calling and injured egos being the norm rather than the exception.

I know that this comment won't be seen by many, although it will most likely be seen by those who SHOULD see it, and that's all that really matters to me. You see, for me these comments offer an avenue to vent my observations about human behavior, especially with regard to peoples' sense of "entitlement," believing that the world doesn't just owe them everything, but it owes them the absolute BEST of everything - without charge or fee, and you're expected to read their mind in order to meet (and even to exceed) their expectations without actually communicating with them.. (They'll accuse you of "spamming" if you attempt to do that).

Thanks to everyone - to GOTD, the software developers, the professional reviewers (esp. Ashraf and Giovanni), and of course to all the rest of the diverse crowd of characters that give this site the unique personality that it has developed! My visits here are often the high point of my day which, when you stop and think about it, is a rather sad commentary on MY life, and what entertains ME...

I definitely have WAY too much time on my hands!

Re: To Giovanni's comment. " Thanks for your offer….

However, I believe that at Astro Gemini (and GAOTD team) headquarter should finally be aware of this:

http://www.howtogeek.com/128644/htg-explains-why-screen-savers-are-no-longer-necessary " .

Really, people say some of the stupidest things.

Of course the original reason for a screen saver being no longer needed was over years [ decades ] ago when monitors became Energy Star friendly.

Screensavers are a fun and artistic pastime. And also screensavers are still great for privacy issues, locking the screen [user session is passworded ; i keep mine active just for this reason. also they are just plain fun to sit back and look at. And yes there's the artistic value too.

Screensavers arent going anywhere because we love pretty pictures on our monitors; this is a fact.

And the feedback is great for the makers so they can clean up their product and make it great and user friendly for everyone. This takes a huge amount of effort.

For those that have no idea about software development; be nice and polite in your criticisms. many of these companies may not be large software conglomerates, just a few programmers trying to help make the world of computing a little more fun.

And for the comment on Windows 7 compatibility and Windows 7 being out long enough to have figured it out. unfortunately you do not really know anything about software development and the cost and effort of producing a working program.

I sell vintage software and many times i may sell Programming tools to programmers. These tools aren't always cheap and a single or smaller programming outfit may not have the money or time to test every software platform for their program or to pay Microsoft for a Windows Compatible logo.

Also their target audience may not even be current windows versions but older Windows users on platforms more friendly towards their development skills and resources.

I am learning programming and I probably will not even bother with current versions of windows if i have a niche in older windows users that still want to have fun stuff that runs on their older computers; theres still a lot of people that cant afford newer versions of windows or the equipment to run it on.

Something to think about.

*I* don't have any LCD's aside from the one on my laptop, so I rather like having the option for a screensaver now and then.

@#29 AntonYo I have a screensaver called 'fireworks' on *my* amber monitor attached to my AT box- and it's been on there since I got that system in 1987. Ancient, sure- but just as vulnerable to burn-in as any later system. I've been in this field since 1977, and even some of the terminals to the honeywell 6000 mainframe had 'screen saver' features!

If you gotta make smart-alec comments, try adding the smart part first, huh? Please?

I'm certain that today's giveaway is worth the price of FREE (for some)
However, I'll pass.

I like the excellent free alternatives:
Adjust your computer to turn of the monitor
Push the on/off button to turn off your monitor when not in use
Shutdown your computer when done

I'm glad I checked today's giveaway. While I'm not interested in a screensaver, it was fun to see not only the high-tech geniuses who tell us for the millionth time why screensavers are unnecessary, but we had the added bonus of Trekkies and assorted fanboys scratching it out over whether this is authentic and whose obssession is more valid. Perfect!

They should stop calling this "Star Wars" screensaver before Disney sues them. I'm sure they didn't pay for the rights.

I have a Star Wars desktop package that played clips of the first movie. (I think I still have it but can't recall where I've put it.) I've seen one that had the full first movie storyboarded.

This comes with a screensaver manager so you can manage all the other AG screensavers you have, both the registered ones and the demo ones.

And they couldn't possibly be selling any screensavers at $10. $1 would be a fair price. If they want $10 then package ten or twenty screensavers together.

Thanks Astro Gemini and GOTD! These screensavers are great for running around holiday time when the family visits. It puts something interesting on the screen, and it's so cold that the little extra heat from the LED and LCD monitors (while running screensavers) just helps heat the house (because energy is never lost by appliances in the COLD winter). I have a lot of the Astro Gemini collection and most of it is great.

As for the "Star Wars" thing, that movie was about something that happened in ANOTHER galaxy - not ours! This screen saver is about star wars in OUR galaxy.

Too many people brainwashed by their television sets and mass media. I feel sorry for you all. Thanks again Astro Gemini and GOTD!

hi folks,

I'm afraid i can't comment on the true nature of the screensaver that was offered today. being as blind as my name would lead one to believe. but major and these other screen savor hunting cronies, go take a flying leap off the edge of a rocky cliff, I'd like to feel your guts on the rocks! if its not starwars i don't want it either, but i still run screensavers!, why, if i am away from the comp for a long period, i like something amusing and pleaseant sounding to come on, 2 if I'm gone, since i both invent and write, i want to cover my screen so folks can't peek without needing to close eveerything. and if you want a manager this one is quite extensive and works well. and I don't give a bloody ding if he is russian! and if he doesn't need lucas/disney because of it, then sorry its that way, but it is what it is (ouch!)
thank you GAOTD for your work and your programs, if i use them or not is my choice but folks, quite making out as if its your site, it ain't, your not doing the searching, your not dealing with the packaging, your not changing the site every day, and your deffenetly not paying for it, so shut up and enjoy what your being handed!

This is not really based on Star Wars other than the space theme. In reality it lightly reminds of of the old Battle Star Galactica of the 1970's. I say lightly because the ships are similar yet different. Overall it looks nice and could be quite enjoyable. Just because you can turn the screen off and go for a utilitarian view I much prefer a nice screensaver at least for a while. This will fit the bill quite nicely. I doubt however this would play very nicely with low end graphics hardware like the older built in Intel graphics. That said it plays nice with the ATI and Nvidia cards in my systems. If you like screensavers you will likely enjoy this one.

I'm one of the ones who likes getting screensavers; I have many (16 from Astro Gemini via GOTD) and enjoy using a screensaver manager that rotates among all of them.

The only flaw with today's offering is the title. I like the animations (not cinematic quality but hey, I don't WANT my graphics card running hot whenever this kicks in. Visuals are good with good variation. I also like the music & sounds, the deep bass sounds great on my subwoofer!

I don't mind the installation of Astro Gemini's screensaver manager, but they really ought to make it optional or explain what it is someplace. Easy enough to uninstall if you don't want it, but it IS a nice program that handles all your screensavers and makes it easy to buy more. Toolbar opt-out was there, so what's all the fuss about unwanted malware being forced on people?

The screensaver manager also has an offer to get ALL the Astro Gemini 3D screensavers for about $50. Quite the bargain if you would buy several anyway. If it was $25 and I had some money, I would probably go for it. Thanks again GOTD and Astro Gemini!

1) While it is true that screensavers are not required for the most common of screens (LCD) today, there very well may be some people who still have the CRT monitors; which DO require some sort of screensaver.

2) I have 2 PCs..1--which I consider my secondary, I have set to the "blank" option, which came with the original OS.
My Main PC is--98% of the time--hooked to my 25" monitor. I like to have different options to display on the screens when in idle mode. I have several of the Holiday themed 'savers from Astro. This is the first non-Holiday theme I've seen from them since before I got my new PC. I've never had a problem with any DLs from them ( knock on wood :P )

3) I still believe GOTD should have some way of preventing anyone who doesn't DL the giveaway from commenting or giving thumbsup or -down.
The current rating system is VERY misleading.
Some goober who just doesn't like the current giveaway gives it a thumbs down.
I feel the ratings should pertain ONLY to the effectiveness or behavior of the giveaway.

my 2 cents \m/

Peace \/

Having done some work for Lucas Arts Entertainment I find it hard to call this a "Star Wars" screensaver. Maybe if Astro Gemini wants to "start a war" with George Lucas or should I say Disney, that would be a more accurate description because what I saw had nothing to do with Star Wars. Unless having some planets floating in space and an occasional ship that looked like an A-Wing makes this a Star Wars scene. And my Windows 8 system made this screen saver look like a stop motion movie with objects jerking across the screen and no resemblance to a smooth 3D simulation at all. (I have a Toshiba Satellite dual processor 64bit laptop so I had expected better results). But to conclude I had to remove as I could not watch these so called "Star Wars" scenes jerk across my screen

I for one still enjoy having the opportunity of loading a screensaver that I like. Most of us who come to this website know that they are no longer needed in this computer age. However, that should be our choice and not the ranting's of others who may not like them. As for me I say keep them coming. Those who do not like them can pass on them. ALSO, they have to try with their extra's, after all this is a for profit company. I have most of what has been given away on this site. Lost some when I crashed my computer. I WILL SAY AND AGREE WITH MOST OF THE BAS REVIEWS on this screensaver. I believe it is one of the worst that they have produced and should be taken off their list and market before it hurts their other products. Thanks for listening to an oldtimer.

I agree that Star Wars is a very specific story line and has nothing to do with today's screensaver other than they're both in space. However, it's a decent screensaver, which anyone could see when they actually TRY the thing.

As far as "needing" one, maybe older plasma screens still need them because they can burn-in images (yes, even in 2013) but most people install savers because they enjoy visual designs or animations.

Guess almost nobody has the empathy gene any more, giving the ability to imagine that there might be people who appreciate different things than they do, and then there're the folks who think the world owes them stuff designed exclusively for them on a silver platter, but I happen to appreciate today's FREE giveaway. Thanks, Astro Gemini and GOTD!

The domain astrogemini.com is owned by Russian Dmitri Bukhman.
While he has his identitiy hidden and obfuscated by the Gandi Registrar
copyright holders have discovered his name and location in Russia.

Dmitri Bukhman does not have license to use the Star Wars name.
Like other titles he has appropriated in the past the use
of "Star Wars" is unauthorized and entilrely illegal.

Screensavers are not only to 'save screen from burn'. There are many artistic uses for it, but if the quality of graphics is useless, then it is not worth anything. I also prefer screensavers which allow users to make changes, and also use their own pictures.

The screensaver-haters are out in force today. For the ten millionth time, you don't have to run screensavers as screensavers, you can run them as relaxing standalone animations. As has been covered, this isn't evil malware, it doesn't add anything to your startup. Gee, a company that actually wants to stay in business. Since most of you are freeloaders, they don't get any sales from here, so they've gone back to an optional toolbar which you can't possibly miss during installation (many other companies try to survive by offering toolbars, but hide theirs), and a screensaver manager which you don't have to use and can independently uninstall. Like most Astro Gemini offerings, this is just an old screensaver from someone else. You people get hung up on the name, it's been called other space-related things from other companies, we got this under another name a long time ago. Yes, the graphics are primitive but I quite like it on my hi-res monitor. It's a colorful, artistic work. NVidia cards don't have a problem with it, Intel embedded graphics are weak and don't render it well (and I'm sure that the graphics coding isn't very good). Thumbs up from me. Incidentally, there are more rogue planets that have been gravitationally kicked out of their systems and are wandering between the stars than there are stars.

Loaded it, loved it as usual with these little gems. For those not familiar, this is a fun little rendered 3D environment, not a video, but also not anything ultra high tech compared to a modern gaming environment. It's just a novelty and perhaps not for most people here - for these record setting thumbs down, there is certainly not anything actually wrong with it. Win 7 64bit - runs flawlessly. Another great Astro Gemini screensaver. I think this is the first one I've tried that isn't holiday-related. I love them all, I really do. It's really unfair that people downvote them just because they have some kind of hatred of screensavers because as screensavers go these are some of the best available, if not the best. I really enjoy having them play on the monitor when I'm not busy with the computer. This one displays a space battle scene so finally I've got one I can use outside of a particular holiday season. Thanks GOTD & Astro Gemini. Especially thanks to Astro Gemini who continues to give us these great pieces of software despite all the bad attitudes.

Thanks for telling us the username required to register this thing. Whilst it may be common sense to some, it might not be to others, but it's Giveawayoftheday.

GOTD stands for Giveaway Of The Day. it's not You Better Download This Or Else. It's funny giving negative reviews to something you didn't install, or, installed too quickly without reading every pane that comes up asking if you want for example, toolbars installed. Even when it's free, people complain. Thank you GOTD.

Sorry, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Star Wars!
There are just a few (very few, even if you're registered!) pre-rendered space scenaries with some ugly looking spaceships.
Nothing behind it which could possibly remind you of Star Wars...

Even the speed is annoying lame...
To sum it up: Simply annoying and BOOORING!

Does Astro Gemini really have a license from Disney / Lucasfilm to use the Star Wars name and imagery (not that the imagery is more than vaguely suggestive of Star Wars)?

Because if they don't, this is a great way to get sued.

Disney is notoriously litigious regarding their intellectual property.
