Lifetime License purchased but it fails after every update. Now no support is even given. It is like we have all been let down. So I guess Lifetime License purchase was not a good investment. It fails after updates then when it does work it is hit and miss. and now it does not work at all and no support given

Heartened by your comment fran I took the update option on my GOTD version (2.2.5.6) but then got a red warning 'SpeedMP3 Downloader-2.2.7.6.Setup.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.' I cancelled but maybe I should just go for it! I agree that this is a case where GOTD should step in and give us advice- there must be thousands of us in the dark here. I-we-wait in hope for some clarification.

Hi again, as promised, I'm back with good news:) They've been very Supportive and sent me new Lifetime License to go with the newest version.
I'm happy to have it back in working order:)
Hope they'll be invited here again for another Promo and all those who missed it, so watch out.. Cheers.

Hi, Matt! - I've been told by Support: "The system of Speed MP3 Downloader was under maintenance at that time. Now it is back to normal." Well, it ISN'T !!.. Not on our GAOTD version anyway.

Like You - I was then "invited" to download the latest version and.. TRY it for free(!), also if I needed any more help they'll be happy to assist me.

Indeed I'm seeking more help and assistance and awaiting next e-mail.
I've pretty good idea what's happening and why, but let's see and not pre-empty a possible outcome. Just yet:)

I had the same thing happen. Apparently, the version they gaveaway no longer works on their system. For it to work again, you have to "upgrade". By doing so, it will wipe your key and give you a trial version. I emailed them as well but have not received any response. If anyone hasn't upgraded yet and has copied down their key, maybe that will work after the upgrade. I, sadly, did not do that so I'm in a trial version...

Hi, Hilda and Eddy! - same situation here, sooo disappointed:((, I wrote to support@speedmp3downloader.com for Help. If they reply I'll be back here with answers.

Can GAOTD please act on our behalf? It's not as if WE've messed up!
Lifetime License guarantied by Offer of The Day should be honored in this case?

Well Jules you are wrong. It is legal to post copyrighted songs on YouTube. There is a channel called Vevo that posts most of them.
Also many big companies have signed up with YouTube making their songs allowed to post on YouTube.

If it's a YouTube converter that you are looking for, Free YouTube To Mp3 Converter works well. You can choose between FLAC, MP3, WAV and more. I am very particular about how my music sounds and this program has been great. As far as needing to speed up or slow down a track that you may have downloaded, you may want to look into DJ programs, where you would be able to alter the pitch or speed of the track. Virtual DJ is a good one which allows you to record the tracks played through the program. It's also fun to mix tracks and use the effects provided.

Happy New Year All ...

I think this is an awsome program, so simple and easy to use. I've been searching for some Arabic songs for some time now, I haven't been able to find them in any store as they are oldies. Haven't found them on youtube or any other site. Searched for one of these songs and in less than a minute I got it. I think this is a KEEPER for me. As for those who haven't downloaded it yet ... Give it a go, it's worth trying ...

Reading other comments above, many people wonder how it is possible to 'legally' download stuff from YouTube? Well, YouTube is supposed to check for copyrighted material, which for the most part it does successfully and rejects copyrighted material.
To get round this, what happens is this. To get a music track on YouTube, you have to alter the speed or pitch of the clip, so that the YouTube software doesn't recognize it. So, in essence, the tracks are speeded up slightly, or slowed down a bit.
In fact you aren't getting the originals at all off YouTube. If you know the song well, it is usually quite obvious how it has been doctored.

Nice interface, very sleek. Cool idea, performed well.
The price tag is a bit of a problem. 20$ would be much more "viable".

One problem is that you sometimes can get censored songs which is annoying because YouTube have pretty many censored songs.

My vote: 8/10 / Thumbs up

Hi, away from perhaps more ambitious music downloads:) - how often you find yourself haunted by particular "odd tune" that comes with TV advert? I do, and I'm sure I'm not alone.. You won't rest till you find it - yes, usually on utube. To be able to listen to it again I often send myself a link for that utube, or save it to favorites. I'm describing here my "simple practice" knowing there are Methods much more sophisticated!:), but in a hurry (and excitement:) - that's what I tend to do.

Only as recent as yesterday I put to rest, lol, something I meant to check before Christmas, but had no time.
Today with a use of Speed MP3 Downloader - I have that piece saved in mp3 format, cool:)

For me - Useful Tool, very easy to use, does the job in no time and.. will stop me from sending endless links for utubes (especially when I'm only interested in music and not video that comes with it)

Thanks GAOTD and Coolware Max:) for Today's Giveaway. Keeper for sure.

Happy New Year to The GAOTD Team, Fellow Users and Experts, and continuous Success of this Brilliant Site in 2012!

Downloaded and installed ok on Windows 7 32bit laptop. Search is quick. Downloads are slow, and the 17 songs I tried were all of too poor quality to even consider keeping. I deleted all of them. Tinny sound and poor conversion. I also didn't like that they would start playing and I would have to pause the song. I've used the free FormatFactory to convert one of these same songs from a direct YouTube video download and, though involving a few more steps, the sound quality was considerably better even at the same bit rate. I'll keep this and try it a couple more times before uninstalling if the results are still such low quality. I like the concept, just not the output.

I got a non-serious (I hope) Mamutu warning while changing Speed MP3 Downloader location download settings, but it seemed safe enough to allow.

For music downloads, it might be fun to point NeoDownloader (from a recent giveaway) at one of the free music sites just to see the results.

I too use the Australian software WavePad along with other audio editing apps also from NCH.

Running the so-called MP3s delivered by today's GAOTD app through WavePad results in exactly that found and kindly reported on by Buzz at #48 and #49:

The audio is in mono.

Well, if this were 1963 or thereabouts, mono might indeed seem like A Good Thing. And it's certainly impressed the umpteen posters who've actually praised a product which doesn't live up to its description nor deliver anything remotely resembling original quality sound.

As such, therefore, it has served to demonstrate -- judging by the utter gibberish posted by so many on here today -- that yes, it is indeed possible to fool some of the people all of the time.

Especially when they can't even tell stereo MP3 from stripped audio rendered in mono pulled off YouTube.

Thanks GAOTD, but absolutely, definitely. . . no thanks.

XP SP3
v2.2.5.6

installs into directory of your choice, 17 MB
appears clean

installer left its install file in %TMP%?

registration is "automatic" upon installation

program window is NOT resizeable - it should be

"help" is online only

search is fast
clicking on a song plays it
UI colors are hard for me to decipher
(perhaps there are additional skins available?)

download is SLOW
first it downloads as an FLV

at some point it opened Internet Explorer (NOT my default browser)
with a URI like:

xmd:ACTION=Play&ID=eaOA2lC5S74&TITLE=Marissa+Nadler+%2522Diamond+Hearts%2522+-+Live+@+Lou's&LONG=257&PID=2

have no idea what that was intended to do (but it did nothing AFAICT)?

after it finished downloading, it automatically (& I'm assuming) extracts & converts the file to MP3 to your specified bitrate.
would be better, if it simply extracted the audio directly without any conversion. (if the source within the FLV were at 64kbps, your selection of "320kbps" would in no way enhance the output. all it would do would be to give you a larger output file.

the downloaded FLV is left in %APPDATA%\SpeedMP3Downloader\Downloading\

if i take my test file & extract its audio with FLV Extract, i see that in fact the audio IS 64kbps, so using Speed to "make it" any other value is worthless.

as it turns out, i had happened to choose a 64kbps output in my test. the Speed file was only 1000 or so bytes bigger the the file as it was natively, & was tagged, where the original was not.

not certain, but believe that ffmpeg is being used for the extraction/tagging.

"FLV Extract v1.6.2"
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_video/convert_video/flv_extract.cfm

if you "redownload" the same song, it DOES download it again (rather then simply using its already "cached" file).

this time told it 320kbps. source FLV was exactly the same, so that confirms that there is no way the output at "320" could be any "better" then at "64".
all that accomplished was to change (it automatically increment rather then overwriting - which is good) the 1.6 MB 64kbps file to a "better" (NOT) 8.2 MB "320kbps" file.

all that said, it does what it says & works well at that.
though it could & should be efficient, smarter in how it works.

the way it should work IMO.
1) find "songs" (which it does well)
2) download source FLV
2a) automatically "determine" a "tag"
3) directly extract the audio from the source (so no modification)
3a) enter the tag, if desired into the file, but otherwise leave the file unmodified
3b) offer to convert the file to MP3 if the extracted file were not MP3 (it need not be)

that would leave you with an optimally sized & sounding output file.

OK, i see, the source FLV files ARE deleted when you exit the program.

legality of doing this, download an FLV from youtube & extracting its audio, don't know?

It's a simple choice of "Do I like it and do I have a use for it?"

It's never too obtrusive and always free

So make hay while the sun shines, if that's your perogative

All the best for New Year

I have used this for 2 years and love it. nearly ANY song you can remember is there. Search on a ALBUM TITLE, and get the songs there, search on ARTIST name and you will get their songs. Search on a piece of the lyrics and it MIGHT be there. I paid $30 for a Lifetime License and love it They update every two months or so, never know why. I love it. I get ALL my music for my iPOD this way, no ITUNES needed,$$$.

Downloaded and installed easily on Win 7 Pro 64, and I like the search ability. I've found some songs I didn't know existed by searching for the group. Cool! For those worried about legality..., don't D/L or go find the video and watch it on U-Tube. I believe if you own the CD/Album (remember albums?) you can have a copy of the song for backup.

Thank you Speed MP3 D/L and GOTD, Happy New Year to all!

Wow. I like this.
Unicode and accepts foreign langauge fonts in sone name or artistie name search.
Very fast search results.
Can choose which folder to save to.
Can select bit rate 64, 128, 192, 320.
Of course if your song's origin source is low bit rate, then setting a high bit rate to save it at, is just bluffing yourself.
Could not resize the window to make it wider horizontally.
Easy download of songs and full song name and artisite name is captured.
Songs play back well on VLC.
You can choose how many concurrent songs to download, depending on the power of your PC.

It is not reasonable to expect real hifi.
You want that? Pay $300,000 just for the turntable.....and add on more.

It installed good on Windows XP pro SP3,
but thats where the fun stopped.
Ya there is a lot of music to choose from but the quality is poor. Kind of like a am radio sound. and there is no way to adjust sound quality. As others have said you can get the same stuff on YT. Most of the selection that is found is videos????

If the play back quality was better or a least be able to adjust the sound it may be worth keeping. I can down load youtube videos my self with much better results.
Thanks GOTD but I will skip this to day for bad sound quality

Don't you just love the legality angst here?? It is as if folks believe that the RIAA is gonna be knocking down their doors any minute now. Terrorism, it is called.

At any rate -- since all this does is acquire content from youtube -- you're pretty safe because if the terrorists *were* gonna go after someone, they'd likely go after Google's Youtube; seeing as how they've got a lot more money than you.

As far as the product itself, there are much easier approaches via your browser. Just visit the Firefox addons page or google apps store and search for youtube; you'll find a bunch of downloaders that will automate the process and convert to mp3 (SWIM says Easy Youtube Downloader works great but he says there are a *ton* of others as well). Make sure you get one makes the conversion locally, rather than sending you to a website).

All in all, no reason to fear this thing but no reason to use it, either.

Looks good, talks great but if it is only searching UTube then I fail to see the programme meeting the hype. Has anyone actually managed to get anything that they are sure is NOT on UTube?

If not, I think I'll stick with DamnVid which is not as pretty but maybe more practical. You can download the Video or just the audio (as an mp3) and it will search UTube, Blip.tv, iTunes and around 30 other named services. It is fast and the download quality is rather good.

So, unless someone can find this offering has wider scope, I see no point in having two progs that do the same things.

Comprehensive details here http://code.google.com/p/damnvid/

I see it has versions for different platforms, portable and apps.

This looks like a begining of something very interesting. Here are a few QA issues I found (Bug and Enhancement Requests:

GUI: Ability to sort by column
GUI: Ability to change column size
GUI: Ability to change column location
GUI: Ability to choose Quality (Kbps) in the Search (helps make list shorter)
GUI: Download the search as a list: it would be more useful if you could then edit that list and submit it back to the application for downloading.
Embeded Player: Ability to stop downloading if you pause the player.
Functionality: After the file downloads and it is moving it to the location choosen for the completed downloads, and the Player is playing a file, the player will freeze for a few seconds until the application has completed its copy delete process.
Embeded Player: Forward/Rewind does not play from cache, but begins donwload of song again. Needs to have cache for speed, efficiency, and bandwidth conservation.

I like its simplicity. Almost to simple. Should be easy for most people to use...a good thing.

Quality that is set to be downloaded is not reflected in the quality of the song. For example, a song that is set to 192 kbps joint stereo is heard as one of 92 kbps (it is not available to all songs, just depending on where they are downloaded, the program makes a conversion kbps to reach you by us). Otherwise, the program is pretty good.
