While screensavers are mostly obsolete with todays computers (almost as obsolete as a 3.5 floppy), there are some rather pleasing to watch ones that are still out there. While the picture of the moon is amazing (for any who have looked up into the night sky, they will know the moon actually looks like this, so lack of color is kind of a pathetic thing to whine about), a bit more would have been a lot better. Such as a rotation that doesn't go back and forth, and better lighting on the moon. Seems a bit to dark (you really have to look to see what it is unless your closer than a few feet away, being able to see it clearly from across the room would be nice). I've also noticed on a lower spec system, the rotation looks a lot more like a stop and go picture animation, creating a "ripple" effect over the moon. I've had some amazing screensavers on low end systems that have run a lot smoother with a lot more detail and color, so that's rather off putting. For now, my daughter loves the aquarium style screen savers so I'm going to have to pass on this one. It's nice, but could use a bit more work. Thank you Rixane Interactive for allowing us to give this one a shot :)

Warning. I am typing this from another computer. I booted up my main computer this morning and nothing works, boots up, but hangs when trying to load some files to do with this screensaver. So... its either buggy as hell or malware. Either way, WHEN I CAN... I'm uninstalling this crap.

Does anyone still use screensaver. Power controls blank display automatically. No need for such.

otoha, the Solar System one came up free, but clicking on the other two took me to the Rixane website and those didn't download free for me.

otoha, Microsoft store says the other screensavers are free only if you've got Windows 10... If you're using 7 or 8.1, don't bother because you can only get the trial version or pay for it.

IF you have windows 10.

otoha,
These screensavers work only under Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile.
Then you must be signed in to your Microsoft account to get and install it.
If you haven't a Microsoft account you can't have it.
I don't like this!

"...for those who like astronomy"? Not sure. Those might notice that the moon rotates in one direction, then stops, then rotates in the other one... (see video) Actually, in Rixane's erratic world, the earth does the same (see previous giveaway), which would have even direr consequences for us its poor inhabitants.
But okay if you like to see some ball revolving on your screen.

ouialaraison, It's a camera rotating round the moon :)
Save | Cancel
ouialaraison,
Nothing is rotating in this Moon screensaver!
What is moving is just the camera.
The moon, earth and sun are in fact stationary objects in this 3D world, they don't move and they don't rotate (not correct either though, but they certainly don't change rotation as you say). It is the camera which is moving around the moon.

ouialaraison, The camera moves the other way, not the moon.

Black and White? Why???
Reality isn't in black and white.

Cesar Norton,
This isn't black and white. You can see the earth too in this screensaver, which is clearly in color.

The problem of these screensaver is that you can only sit and watch unless you do anything and they disappear. An animated desktop would be more appealing IMHO, especially now that screensavers are not useful anymore.

ValleyBoy, From reading the requirements of the other ones, Window 10 is listed as the minimum requirements to use the software.

ValleyBoy, Edit, that is what I see at the Microsoft page for these screensavers. The the description page where this screen saver is being provided by, it lists it as "The Solar System – Moon screensaver for Windows 7.....". No other system requirements listed. Reliable software lists the 'system requirements'. Check out their homepage link, there is nothing listing about win xp or higher, etc. Site doesn't provide enough info, I personally wouldn't trust it.

P.S. Would LOVE to see The Moon 3D as a future giveaway as I volunteer at a camp for kids with autism and these usually non-stop-children will sit and watch the Moon for HOURS!
