I will fix wrong Earth rotation :)
№30 - update your videocard drivers. nVidia periodically make a bugs.

About pixel shaders - don't want to upgrade PC? Use astrogemini screensavers :) Pixel shaders is an old technology today and present on the most videocards that you can buy. About cost you can read in post №61.

I d/loaded this program and installed it. I don't know what some of the people are complaining about. As my old uncle used to say.. "some people would kick if they had both legs cut off!" It is a beautiful program, and when my nerves are frayed I just bring it up and look at it. A lot of work and thought went into this program.

I also own Solar System screen saver, and between the two, I can't decide which I like best. Two good programs!!! Thank you.

When I went to AddRemove Programs to Uninstall this program, I noticed that the installed size was 0.65Mb. So where is the remainder of the 16.5Mb that took me 2 hours to download.
I trust GAOTD, but I feel that some of the program providers are given to much latitude.

Unfortunately didnt work for me properly. Installeed OK but I get a blue circle that obscures the image. It also runs very slow. Unlike Danielle (#8) my Earth does rotate correctly!

Little upset; GAOTD did not have this available at 6:00 AM yesterday; so naturally I missed out on it. What happened? Today so far, the new one is up; but no game so far posted; it is 5:21 AM EST right now (yes I put my clock back) and still no game up on the board.

Installs/Runs fine on Vista x64. Looks ok... I guess... for an $18 program they could have included a little more than 2 spherical model, a couple texture/bump maps, and lighting effects... and gotten the earth's rotation correct. Some animated weather, more realistic city lights, higher res textures, lower flyby's maybe some other planets... then maybe $10 would be worth it for someone who actually likes screensavers.

As to the amusing people complaining about the need for PS 2.0:
A. Without Pixel shading, it'd look like crud.
B. you don't need a $300-500 video card to run this, the 6600GT was released 3 years ago at $150, and a PS 2.0 supporting card can be bought for about $40 nowadays. Try upgrading, not complaining your ancient PC can't run current software.

it seems that many users face problem with installation, without being there is problem in the given software, a few things you have to follow while installing a new software anytime.
1. please close all running application. like DAP which is running but stay in the taskbar only. no window other than the installation window should open.
2.you can also check the taskbar to assure that both processor and ram are well free to take the pressure of initial installation.
3. if you are currently downloading anything through net, please pause it for a while dufing installation.

that's all. i have been using GOTD for about a year, and never faced a installation problem, also keep a seriour note in the readme text in the zip file. and always activate it first, then close the related window before starting to use the sepup file.

Previewed then Uninstalled. Not for me either. Little control of what the screensaver will do. Speed, position, aspect viewpoint. Although old Xearth isn't photographic, it was at least useful and had many settings you could use to customize while being a s.saver or desktop.

High-quality images, pleasant music, and as others mentioned, backwards Earth rotation. One major flaw is an extremely limited number of pre-defined resolutions + the desktop resolution. Since Rixane Interactive has good-quality images on their website, I only posted a few higher-resolution images on BladedThoth's forum.

I thought the SUN always will rise in the EAST. In this program, it rises in the WEST. Notice when the sun hits the USA, the city lights from LA turn off then the lights in NY City turn off. Maybe I missed school that day, but maybe you can tell me if I am wrong.

It would have been helpful to be informed of any essential system requirements before downloading this screensaver. Some of us are unable to have ADSL and it takes about two hours on dialup only to be infomed that something that I've never even heard of is missing.
Perhaps extra requirements such as this Pixel Shader could be available with the download? I was hoping this screensaver was to have high quality Space Images...so I am disappointed to have missed out. Last of all, the Read Me file was not present.

Beautiful screensaver, but you'd think with all the effort they put into the graphics, they would have put some thought into the realism. The earth rotating backwards drives me crazy, so much so that I won't be using this. Thanks anyway, GOTD!

@Dan/#31:

It rotates in all different directions, and it's not at all consistent with sun risings.

Everything else:

Either way, it's a good screensaver, and the only reason people can't use it is because they have cheapo graphics cards.

The funny thing is that some of these screensavers by this "company" are also on the Astro Gemini website. But this "company" seems to improve the screensavers and make them more detailed and at a higher quality.

DL in less than 50 seconds on highspeed DSL. Installed fine. Boring. Graphics are so far from "realistic", those claiming realism must be smoking something.

Another CPU/motherboard cooker. Why do these things need 100% CPU for such crappy graphics when I run an XBox emulator playing Halo 3 and even in the most active sections CPU never gets over 85%?

Not to mention that, once again, we are given a demonstration of novice level programming with thier ignorance of how to program for the very multi-monitor cards needed to run this? Yup, no multi-monitor support. Just whatever I was running over there on the secondary monitor.

Uninstalled fine.

I guess if you like "screensavers" (not actually needed for VGA monitors) that cook your CPU and graphics cards, and actually like novice level programming and graphics that are only realistic to those under the influence of psychedelics, then this is for you.

To all the people copmplaining that they had to uninstall because of Pixel shaders and DirectX 9......Can you not read?

System Requirements:
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista;
VIDEOCARD with PIXEL SHADER 2.0 support;
DirectX 9.0

You could save yourself the trouble of installing, uninstalling and complaining in the first place if you would just pay attention and READ the system requirements that are listed with EVERY giveaway.

#26 is right. The sun is rising over California, and setting in New York. What can I say, good graphics, good eye candy, but very unrealistic. Probably worth a download if you have a good graphics card. I watched it in 1280X1024. Just dont plan on learning anything about astronomy by watching it. I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

John Glen the astronaut used to live less than 5 miles from me. I saw him in person one time, and that was during a parade in Malibu.

Some time ago I added my comment on one piece of software that I downloaded. I guess that comment never got posted and got me barred. It appears that the last two packages I tried to download I could only get from the mirror site, and could not activate. I don't suppose this comment will make it either, so it can be read by others, so I bid GAOTD farewell and take the link to you off my site. Good luck...

I have a foot in both camps as far as SS are concerned, but this one is worth the D/L. It is beautiful and relaxing, like you are in some kind of space ship visiting the planet. Most of the time it rotates the right way, I think they have looped it back to make it run longer without seeming to repeat. The city lights on the nightside, the sun and moon, really give it that something extra. The music seems to have been carefully planned; It fits the saver and isn't annoying. I wonder if it is rendering on the fly as it seems to keep showing new angles and I really zoned out on it for quite awhile. I noticed they have a free wallpaper to match, which is a nice extra. I can count on one hand the SS'ers I've kept...three of them are from Rixane Interactive, they must be doing something right, like good quality products, without the snake oil:) Relaxing! Thanks!

Very nice! It's good to see that the screensaver today is not Astro Gemini, as those always seem to come with a load of useless things, such as links to their sites, and even a screensaver manager. This, however, comes with out anything extra. It's just a screensaver, and that's how I like it. Thanks again GAOTD!

Installed fine on both computers. On the faster computer, it ran normally but on the slower one, it froze the computer. I recommend this screensaver to anyone with a good computer, it will not run well on slow and older computers. Also, if you are running other memory consuming software and programs, your computer may freeze depending on how much memory you have.

Downloaded and installed easliy and quickly and activated fine. When I started to preview the screensaver an error occured saying that I needed the Pixel Shader in order for this program to run correctly. Q: What is the "pixel shader" feature?
A: Pixel shader - is new feature of modern video cards which makes possible to implement very nice and creative visual effects. This feature is supported by video cards like ATI Radeon 8500, nVidia GeForce 3, Intel 910 and greater. We recommend you to use nVidia GeForce 6600 GT or ATI Radeon X700 Pro.
By the way my comp is running the nvidia 6600 GT....
Maybe next time.

Pretty, but realistic? Ummm, on the Earth in the screensaver (or at least on my install), the sun rises in the west and travels east. Kind of ruins the whole thing to see sunset fall across San Francisco while New York has lunch and the UK sees a sunrise.

Well, I took the two hours necessary to download this thing with a dial up connection and then discovered that I need something called 'pixel shader' to even use it. It seems that 'pixel shader' is the newest improvement in display cards, so if you don't have the newest sort of graphic card, don't bother even trying to install this saver.

It would be nice if these screensavers actually worked! As has been the case of almost every one I've tried from GAOTD.
This one requires the newest video card adapter and is useless on any but the newest PC's that have graphics cards using "pixel shader 2.0".
