i'm not sure why all the negative votes - it's a fun program with very little learning curve. Simply install (mine is Win 7 - 64), go to the "get key" page, enter a first name and email (get a throwaway if you're concerned about spam), and activate the program with the almost immediate activation code that's sent to the email you gave them.

Them, insert the activation code (Help > Register) and you're good to go.

I made a copy of a .jpg image and inserted it into the program. Then, yuou can have fun clicking on lots of pre-set image effects. I have Photoshop but, as I said earlier, this program (unlike Photoshop) has about a 60 second learning curve. (What I was able to do with this program is way beyond my skillset using Photoshop.) And, after I played around with a .jpg image, one click on "undo" and the ohoto was back to normal.

A suggestion is to right-click on an image (PC) and make a copy of that image before you start - just a bit of insurance "just in case."

Overall, a fun, easy to use image program - and free today!

I downloaded version 1.3 over a year ago and it worked well for not-so-great computer guys like me. This version registered very well and made a picture which is similar to the 1.3 version. Does what it says and does it well. Allows you to save and print the pictures with no loss of quality.

I got the "pro" version here in early 2014. It's a cute and focused art utility, but as the company has an inexcusable habit of destroying your old registration when you install an upgrade (EVEN TO A SEPARATE FOLDER) turning your old version into a TRIAL version meaning if you don't like what they've done to this offer (offering standard vs PRO, or perhaps crippled or removed a feature you liked, etc) you can't get it back even if you paste the old reg # (which I had) back into the now destroyed PRO version. So for those who don't use GIMP or can't afford Photoshop, both of I recommend trying those freeware programs mentioned above by Jahid. Sketch Drawer should be labeled Does Not Play Nice with Registry Drawer.

Installed on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. No issues with installation or registering. Software does exactly what it says on the can, and produces some quite nice results. My only other experience of converting a photo to a sketch is using Photoshop [Elements] filters, and to be quite frank Sketch Drawer can hold its own against PS in this respect, and in some ways surpasses PS - for example, the Fill White Areas option, control over the degree of 'colorizing', and adding watermarks. If PS Elements has these, then SD wins on ease of access and use.

A nice touch is the pre-rendered preview image displayed when accessing Presets (SD comes with 17 preset image options, ranging from 'pen' through 'plastic), which shows the effect of each preset. Its a shame it doesn't come with the preview image as an image file though ;) Yes, PS can produce similar effects through filters, but requires that you apply several filters to an image to achieve the same result. (again, I'm not a heavy PS user so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

My only niggle is the "undo" option doesn't always seem to work. At least the software only saves images when you select save, and doesn't by default overwrite the original image on exiting the program.

The only suggestion I can add to improving would be a rapid preview option, and improved multi-threaded operation.

I will say Thanks GOTD & Publisher; And OK This gives Good photo sketches. I noticed a performance issue with Themes (using winxp) That makes CPU at Highest level but this be resolved if Native Windows Them is chosen.

installed with no problems Win 10 tech preview 64bit registered with no problems. I missed Dec. giveaway of this and am glad its being offered again. So lets get right to it. @Karl I value your opinion and thank you for your review, but I had to try this out my self. I had some older photos of my family lying around and wanted to give my parents a gift of sorts that was unique. So I scanned some photos and opened them up with the program and was amazed at what they looked like after tinkering with presets and settings. Both my parents were amazed and thought I had spent hundreds of $$ in having a professional do the drawings. Great software its a keeper fr me. Thanks GOTD

I was one of those who downloaded the product in 2014- I have used it regularly and am pleased with the results. It is simple but effective.
A good GOTD for those like me who are useless at art and so are unable to sketch but still like to see sketches of familiar things.
It has also been very effective in providing striking images, which for some reason look better than the orginal iamges, for some of my websites

Installed and registered without problems, opens up to simple interface one that I've used before.

When I use this type of program I'm always looking for a really good conversion to a charcoal type sketch, and to be honest I have not had as much success as I did using older programs.
In those days I used to convert to film grain and then use the charcoal filter, think it was an old Corel program, it took longer but the results were much more pleasing.

Today's program doesn't do a bad job, but at $49 I'd want a home visit from Van Gogh!

GIMP is the best freeware offer as it does this and all the rest .. same as Photoshop. http://www.gimp.org/

Reply   |   Comment by jbdean  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

@jbdean

Yes, Probably GIMP is the best available FREEWARE Altrernative to Photoshop . But These two belong to the full-featured Photo Manipulation Program.

Whereas Jahid has suggested those programs which are just alternative to todays Gotd and they are entirely dedicated to a specific and special task of applying various sketch effect on image very easily. They do not posses conventional photo editing features.

I think FotoSketcher is much more impressive than Sketch Drawer and so easy to use with more sets of preset of filters and has colour, contrast, darkness, edge threshold control options. And also it has instant preview options just right to the original image for comparing the output and the source image with ease.

I went to download and install FotoSketcher and even though I carefully unchecked and declined all sorts of things, now my browser is full of junk and several programs I did not want were installed. Grr. I'm not a super-savvy person, so doing the whole cleaning-gunk-out-of-Chrome is time-consuming, frustrating, and annoying. And potentially a mess.

Installed and registered without problems on a WIn 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system.

A Russian company with address.

We had had the same version on December 4, 2014. Here are the old reviews:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/sketchdrawer/#

You can read my (still valid) comment there, if you like. A simple photo to sketch drawer. Does what it claims. A clear install. It can generate some good sketches, if you like to play around with photos.

This gives me the change to come back to Greatis software UnhackMe.

Do you want to dig deeper in the software security question? Do you want to become your own malware scanner? A simple way:
Download the silent runner script from here. It IS safe!
http://www.silentrunners.org/download.html

Read and understand what this script does. It list all critical points in the registry, which are NOT standard. If your system is free of malware and safe, than make and keep a snapshot. From time to time, like a Rootkit or Malware scanner you take a second snapshot. Use one the many text difference tools. e.g WinMerge, which is a
good one. If you see any differences, than make your own "false positive" decision. Here you are: you are your own scanner. Have fun and a good start on Monday!

The Autoruns software from Microsoft Technet (Sysinternals) does about the same thing, including offering a compare function,
