I sent several registration requests hours ago. No response to any in my inbox or spam.

Sent email to support as suggested above. No answer. Something is very wrong with this giveaway.

Vista Business 32-bit, clean install. I was expecting the same sizing problem others have mentioned, but it didn't happen. However, I have to say if any piddly little applet like this tried to dictate my working configuration to that extent it would be gone immediately.

I tried it on several pdfs. It worked OK on about 2/3's of them, some it complained about "illegal document formation" (or some such) and half of those times it abended. For the ones that worked it did not find passwords, but did offer to decrypt. The decryption worked and I was able to edit the files, which more important to me than actually recovering the passwords. It ran fairly fast, and while it was running in background it did not impact my interaction with other apps.

All in all, it worked well enough for me to keep it. When it works (most of the time for me), it is a handy applet.

Thanks GOD and Eltima.

I keep getting "error - check connection" during setup even though I turned off antivirus, don't have a firewall, don't use a proxy and have no problems with any other software or applications (I'm a tech support specialist, so I have an idea what I'm doing). Very frustrating and disappointing.

To JAKERS - thanks so much, your solution worked perfectly. I wasn't able to get back to my computer until recently to try it, but that was just what I needed.

As for the software itself:

It's too bad I have problems with my eyesight and need the higher DPI to read print on my screen. I'm not likely to use this program much, for that reason. I don't know much about software development, but that seems like something basic that should be dealt with before the software even leaves the labs.

Also, I've gotten errors on both PDFs I've tried the program on. I checked Eltima's Help Files on their site, but there's nothing about error messages listed.

Here's what I'm getting:

Error: Acess Violation at 0x004A23F2 (tried to read from 0x00000004), Program Terminated.

Then the program shuts down. Any suggestions?

Every time I go into the software and try to "Select your PDF file:", the program exits. It's obviously installed, and it says it's registered. I'm using a PDF that says (SECURED) at the top. Suggestions? I'm on XP SP2.

Still trying to install, getting the same "error: Cannot connect to our server...", Windows firewall disabled, trying a few different email addresses.
Emailed the company 6 hours ago with the details as they requested, NO response.
Very disappointed.
Using WinXP-PRO-SP3.

I am running XP Pro SP3 and installed this without any problems at all and it openned up ok, too on the first try..but I have yet to use it fully, so I can't comment on that end of things.

One point I would like to draw your attention to though is the fact that when I first installed it one of the security programs I have running (Online Armor) blocked it from trying to run an .exe file from a temp folder, eventhough I had cleared the install at the start. Online Armor said it was blocked from trying to list files on the system..but the install carried on regardless and the software when scanned before running came up clean..as did the downloaded file in the first place..make of this what you will.

Noam, sometimes people miss the giveaways. It just happened to me recently. A program I wanted was offered but because of my schedule that day, I didn't see the link in time. If a similar program was offered before too long, I would be very happy. People on this list receive links for about 30 free products a month. It is doubtful that anyone has use for all of them. Besides, a major purpose for software manufacturers is providing copies to those of us who recommend products to others, including those in the IT profession. Having an opportunity to test competitive products is very helpful.

Like comments #19, 21, 25, 31, 33, & 34 it installed OK but the screen window was reduced so much that it was unusable. I tried #30's suggestion but since I am on Win 7 x64 the details are different. I had to change the text size from a custom 141% to 100% & re-log in. Then I could see the whole window's text & buttons. Changing the text size back to 141% brought the program's windows size problem back. This is going to make the program difficult to use. I got the activation code quickly, but somehow I got 2 apparently identical emails?

I also was having the same problem as many above with having a "reduced window."

So I tried Jakers suggestion and it worked.

"After an uneventful installation, I too could not see the entire GUI within the program’s window.

I tried tweaking my screen resolution but that didn’t help. However when I changed my display’s DPI setting back to its default value of 96 DPI and rebooted, it worked. Maybe/hopefully it will work for you too.

1) Right-click on any blank area of your desktop.
2) Click on PROPERTIES.
3) Click on the SETTINGS tab.
4) Click on the ADVANCED button.
5) Click on the GENERAL tab.
6) Select the NORMAL SIZE (96 DPI) option within the DPI SETTINGS.
7) Okay your way out and reboot your PC.

Good luck!!!

I ran it against a e-book PDF file that I had. I wanted to copy some paragraphs from it to use for my own use.

It didn't find any passwords so it decrypted the file.

So it does work, at least on this type of file.

I am still waiting six hours later for email, It seems that using an AOL Email address does not work i used my aol.co.uk address and also my aol.com address but to no avail but when i tried a free silly Gmail address the email arrived immediately. btw i removed all spam and junk filters from my aol accounts prior to installing so the problem is not at my end.
Although i had problems with Email once it was installed it ran perfectly on Windows 7 7600 x64 RTM,
Thanks GAOTD and thanks Eltima Software

Installed this on Vista-64 and it brought up a window that was too small to contain the text and controls. No maximize button, no scroll bars. No way to get to the controls on the screen to use it.

Lee had the same problem on one XP box. So did Dusty on XP.

I installed it on a Vista-32 and had the same problem. Not ready for prime time.

Note to the software developer: Test this on modern systems with display resolutions higher than 1024x768 or figure out how to use scrollbars!

Waited over 30 minutes for email. Tried two different email addresses, checked spam folder on both. Nothing. Just now received TWO activation email messages, both to the second email address I provided, and both identical activation codes. Still nothing received by the first email address I used, which leads me to believe that there is blocking of some domain names at their end. I understand it's free, but since one purpose of this is to gain customers, the frustration with activation (not to mention having to provide an email address) doesn't give me a very good feeling toward the company.

Hello Eltima software,

When trying to install, the routine shows the following error:
This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not fount. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Click OK and you can continue with installation, then you come to the
second hurdle. The area where the routine asks for an email address so that you can provide a free activation key. Here comes the error where it says that: Could not connect to our server.....

Surprisingly, the free download available at Eltima site installs normally, but will only on Demo mode.

No more comments. Pls fix these problems..

#22: "16 @Eltima Software: I requested an activation key maybe 30 minutes ago, and it has not shown up, and it is definitely not in my spam folder nor my inbox."

Many email servers/services run their own anti-malware/spam filtering, so your email software may never be given the opportunity to mark it as spam. Suggest try another e-mail address on another service.

@SilenceIsGolden: "I am a freelancer and send out my invoices as password protected PDFs. I’d sure hate it if it were that easy to crack my protection."

Oh yes it is. There are many programs that can easily defeat the wimpy security that a PDF password provides.

Your best bet, if you want to prove that a document has not been tampered with, is to digitally sign it with a third-party strong encryption package, such as GnuPG. Provide the signature file along wit the PDF file (and keep it yourself, too), and you can prove in a court of law that the document has (or has not) been modified since you signed it.

I have the same problem as #19: I got the program installed and registered with no problems, but I can't use the software because the UI is, for some reason cut off. The right side is missing about an inch of the interface and the bottom is missing about two inches. (Thanks to Ashraf's review, I could at least compare them to see what was missing on mine.) I can't even click on the button to start the program, since that part is in the missing bit at the bottom.

I've had this problem in the past, when I was using a 600x800 monitor, and I just needed to change the resolution on my monitor to enable me to see the whole UI. However, I tried that with this program, and it didn't change a thing.

I was hoping to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling, because I wasn't sure if I could use the same email address to get another registration key, and according to the setup info, you can't use the same key again.

I'd really like to have this program - I have some PFDs that I've lost the passwords for. Does anyone have any suggestions?

(I am using an XP SP3 Operating System.)

I loaded this and everything went well with the install and activation. But when I launch the program it comes up in a reduced window that does not allow viewing/using the needed GUI. The window cannot be made bigger or complete. This is an XP SP3 machine.

It loads and launches fine on another computer, XP SP2.

Any ideas?

A good, but expensive alternative is elcomsoft pdf password recovery program, or distributive password recovery. The later one can be used by network administrators, running it on thousends of computers, without noticing the end user, who is eg. typing a Word document, using 0.0001% of computer resources. www.elcomsoft.com

Actually your activation key was sent to you right after requesting it.

If you don't receive it, please make sure that your e-mail filter doesn't block messages (or puts them into spam folder) from "support_at_eltima.com".

Or provide any alternative e-mail address while requesting activation key to which it would be possible to send your activation key once again.

What the difference between the softwares?

Why required two softwares from the same type in so short time ?

Is it recommended to replace the previous software with the new one?
