After reading your comments (in general), I feel quite sad...

Though I have known GAOTD for a years, I think GAOTD might be used to be a good place as the following words I have read:

+ https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/about

I am not a professional in image processing or a designer, so today's giveaway may be useful enough for me :3 For other people here, I (partly) understood your problems :3

Thanks GOTD & Cyberlink for today's gift :3
I don't want to criticize the developer & the giveaway, I just want to say "Thank you" to their works :3

Best regards,
Quach Phat Thang
HCMC, VN

P.S: My comment may contain some redundance & grammar errors :3 Hope you will forgive me :3 Any constructive suggesstion(s) are welcome :3

It won't download. I have tried multiple times since this morning, their built in downloader doesn't work. It has gone to the end many times & keeps giving an error message right when it's finally at the last bit. I can't install it & it has done nothing but waste my time & bandwidth while frustrating me. So a HUGE THUMBS DOWN! This is the 1st program I've bothered to review on here & I'm only doing so because of how angry I am with this worthless giveaway.

It asks you to upgrade to get some extra features but I find the free version just fine for the average user, I think this is a good give away.

All. Downloaded and installed fine on Win 10 Pro 64b. License in readme worked fine.It seems like a real version of the software. I removed an object from a photo and it did OK. I like it thanks

Extremely unhappy...deleted prior version to install this one. It's just a demo since most things I tried need me to upgrade. I do not buy from companies who use deceptive practices. I have high speed internet yet this took over 4 hours to download and then for what...a demo? What is worse is that I no longer have the prior version where everything worked.

Reply   |   Comment by unruly  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

unruly, can you restore your computer to an earlier 'restore point?' That may be able to get your prior version back. Good luck ~

unruly, Uninstall This GiveAwayOfTheDay Program Offered Today, Removing all Traces in the Registry. Reinstall it in a "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink" Folder. You may not have to Uninstall the Older Version. Good Luck. Please Remember this Option the next time you think the Offered Program may ask to Remove your Older Version you Paid for or Installed.

unruly,
Hi, hope You have managed to get that earlier version back and working. If I can give any advice to avoid this in future - try to install (whenever possible) Software on removable flash drives!..Today I discovered my earlier copy of PhotoDirector 7 Deluxe from July last year was indeed installed on removable drive I used at the time (keep buying them just like mem cards for camera) and it stayed intact with all features working. Naturally it's not 'fully portable', so it'll work only attached to own PC. Much hope was given to Today's offer at earlier stages, but later on dashed by discovery what's lacking in PD8 Deluxe, or at least version presented here on GOTD anyway..,shame.

CyberLink Corp. never offer free full programs , even there older versions . It does annoy me . but what I downloaded from GOTD before , has shown Cyberlink are not great programs and they take a lot of hard drive space . I was given Cyberlink programs on this computer , when I set it up . They were no different , just buy me wares , taking hard drive space . I wish I could recommend them , having not seen a complete program . I will only say it is a waste of time . I have Shareware PD software , that beats the demos downloaded . I have bought better software , at a lower price .
After Downloading and using the full program , for a short trial . Getting a program that does not trust itself to show it's full potential and offers extras for money , without showing you what it could be . Maybe even paying money to a few to promote it .
And charging the rest of us to pay those commissions .
I am just upset , their hype always makes me interested .
I do not get paid for downloading / installing running the software . Then spending a lot more time fully removing all of it from my computer .
Yes it does take over My Computer .

There is no cloud. What there is is hard-drives owned and operated by the techopoly, and rented to you -- for a fee, for free so they can mine data, or for a fee and so they can mine data.

I just uninstalled this software from my computer as that always told me "this feature is not supported in this version. please buy a full version". It is rediculous ! Why do I need a software with such restricted functionality? It is easy to find out a number of free software from other companies, those work in similar way but with much wider range of functionality .

I downloaded it because it says...
"The handy Face Swap feature lets you identify and choose the best face from each member of a set of group photos. An advanced photo merging algorithm combines the best faces into a perfect group photo."

But it does not - you have to buy the full version. Likewise for a lot of the other features. It was not worth downloading. My existing photo editor (Corel Paintshop 2018) is vastly superior, but I intended to try this for the face swap features.
Yes, I know it is free, but all I ask for is a bit of honesty in the blurb. If it was any good I would have then bought it. BUT instead it was a waste of time and effort.
The description sounded good, but it is not what you get. I cannot see the point of coaxing people to download with claims that are not true. It just makes you doubt the software house. A pity because I use Video Director from Cyberlink and it is good (but rather "clunky").

Most of the time, if a program has cut down features or things omitted, or limits, Giveawayoftheday tell you. If I like the free one, then I usually buy the commercial product, but with this one Cyberlink have not done themselves any favours.

A great pity.

Not much time but my first trial failed. Maybe because I had a previous version but. My library only has the example photo's in it. When I try to import a photo or folder from my hard drive everything is greyed out and gives a message that the photos are already in the library. Tried a new project - same thing. Can't find them anywhere or import them so it seems I need to re-set something that it has read from the previous version. Can't easily see how. May go back to it when I get time. Anyway its a bug that requires sorting or I need better instructions.

Downloaded & installed (337.13)MB! Seems to work ok but has occasional adverts promoting upgrades, etc.
In this version 8DE, there are no Layers functions!! Like getting to the end of a book only to find last page missing!
I know it's free, but if it is not what you need, why waste everyone's time downloading it?
Cheers

The day this developer stops playing around with the English language is the day it may be worth taking seriously.

Past so-called giveaways here and elsewhere have featured version suffixes SE (Special Edition) and LE (Limited Edition), both of which should, but probably didn't to those asleep at the mouse, flag up the fact that Cyberlink was punting crippleware.

Now it's no longer LE or SE but DE, though the outcome looks likely to be the same seeing as how, once again, a CyberLink retail product price is quoted -- on this page, the text specifically states: 'This program is available for $59.99 but will be for our visitors as a limited-time offer' -- but the product itself doesn't actually exist.

Just as there never was a PhotoDirector SE or PhotoDirector LE available for sale from CyberLink, nor is there a PhotoDirector DE.

Thanks, GOTD, but no thanks. If anyone on here wants to persuade themselves into believing that DE stands for DeLuxe, then I have a London bridge to sell them.

for 'free giveaway of the day' installs fine but asks for a number. none provided anywhere. i am a very long time user of cyberlink products. pdvd, power director and power producer as well as an older version of photo director 7. have a serial number for prior ones but none installed on this clean install of my windows 10 x64 pro. should be no registry issues as this PhotoDirector 8DE would be the first install of any past versions not sure what to do for this. i have other options with the old versions with installers on my other computers but that isnt the point here

drvajra,
Reading the comments, why on earth would you want to download an inferior application when you have all features with your paid version. If anything, contactt Cyberlink to see what it would cost to upgrade your purchased version.

Reply   |   Comment by reghakr  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

reghakr,
Due to all the limitations of this version, I upgraded to PowerDirector 8 Ultra. Along with that application you get Power2Go 10 Platinum and 25 GB of Cyberlink Cloud 25 GB for 12 months. I don't like cripple ware at all and I felt this decision was a wise one.

Idea: install to "photodirector", without the version number. Or, at least, the install process should include an uninstall, to remove previous files and registry clutter.

Hi, looks like DE stands for 'Deluxe', the other version they offer is 'Ultra', out of the two 'Ultra' is slimmer and cheaper and one can buy upgrade to 'Deluxe'..

Review for PhotoDirector8 ('Ultra'), as a guide what's in version8, can be found here:
http://www.toptenreviews.com/software/multimedia/best-photo-organizing-software/photodirector-review/

For PD8 'Deluxe' - one found here (Amazon buyer, hope they don't mind quoting it):
'This is a great piece of kit. It does depend though on a dedicated team of independent users who are willing to record and put lessons onto youtube. The software is not intuitive, so if you have never used this sort of software you may find it difficult to make progress. I have tried to use the help menu many times but have never found the answer I've needed. A quick search on YouTube had usually resulted in a tutorial made by some kind user out there who just wants to help. Thank you to all of them. The software, once you do start learning its nooks and crannies, is very powerful and worth the money'

Other than that User's Guide for PhotoDirector8 can be found here:
https://www.cyberlink.com/support/photodirector-ultra/userguide_en_GB.html

Hope it helps, hard to find much more on CyberLink own pages (comparing one version of PD to next)

Reply   |   Comment by fran  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

fran, Ultra actually is the better edition compared to Deluxe, with more features (layers, more effects, more processing options, more filters, EXIF editable etc.), on top of MacOSX support which Deluxe and Suite lack.

kui_,
Hi, sorry, my mistake, only just found this:
https://www.cyberlink.com/products/photodirector-ultra/compare-upgrade_en_GB.html
What confused me was prices for 'Deluxe' and 'Ultra', not always obvious at first glance, and info that's not easy to find in the mist of promotions..

Reply   |   Comment by fran  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

fran, true. They sold this program in 3 editions, with least to most features: Deluxe, Ultra, Suite. Comparing Deluxe or Ultra with their previous counterparts doesn't help much, what's most important is if the version offered here is Deluxe Edition (DE) or some Downgraded Edition (DE). Face Swap for example is a native Deluxe feature, it's missing in this giveaway version too.
